Rock and Fountain Pub and Restaurant in Neath Port Talbot

Really enjoyed my food with massive portions. Cash only which is not convenient. The menu offered various forms of potato but we were told we could only have chips. My scampi and chips were great but hubby wasn’t that impressed with his steak and ale pie, with chips. Strangely it was Sunday lunch time but no Sunday lunches were on offer. Amused by the old electric light switch and bifold door in the ladies toilet. Someone spends time cleaning the many very shiny horse brasses around the pub.

Called in on the way home. Sat down selected meals then went to order, they DON'T take cards only CASH ? Who does that these days. Worse than that we were told to drive to Resolven ( a 5 mile round trip ) to go and get cash, that's NEVER going to happen. Good luck keeping this business open in this day and age, no wonder there were 'plenty' of tables available.

We come here for family meals a few times a year, me and my partner call in for drinks every now and then and every Christmas eve for the whole family, absolutely lovely food, great prices, lovely pub inside too! Be back soon!

Called in on way to Swansea arena for a meal before the show. The food was lovely and hot but the pub itself was absolutely freezing so made the experience of eating there short as all we wanted to do was to get into a warm car. We wondered why so many people had coats on eating. Would we stop here again ?? Yes in the summer months.

If anybody likes the rock and fountain in Aberdulais, before today I did too! My lamb shank arrived 10 minutes after my family's. That was a bit whatever. Sliced into it and it was a still frozen! I waited around 10 minutes by the bar for the waiter. Finally found him, Told him Okay he will take it back and It'll be sorted. Comes back and says I can't have mash cause there's none left and they're making a new one. My family had almost finished at this point. I said OK chips. But I'll have a cheese and brocoli bake since its quicker to cook. OK no problem. 20 minutes goes by, no food. I ask him to put it to go, cause what's the point at this point my family finished ages ago. OK no worries. 10 minutes later I get them in Chinese containers. We stood at the bar for 10 minutes waiting for the bar staff to take our money. I ask if I can have atleast 50% off since I couldn't even eat with my family. The chef says sorry only a pound off. I left the food there and didn't pay. What absolute awful service and food. Thought it was fantastic before. Not anymore 👋🤣

Bad points: This is a honest review. Staff - clueless in customer service. Rude and very unprofessional in every way. I hope the owner spends some time and attempts to get the front of house staff sorted or there will be a very limited client base for their services at this fantastic old pub. Limited menu and they even run out of basics. I must have more stock in my own kitchen. Place is also looking tired and could do with a makeover. Good points: Food is very good if you are lucky to have what you ordered. Proper pub grub with real chips. I hope the owners sort the staff problems out before it’s to late. Everything else will then fall into place.

This is one of my locals and happy to travel here for a great lunch or evening meal the fish and home made chips are to die for, my partner lives their home made lasagne

Visited here with family for lunch, all enjoyed our meals and would go back again for the food. Unfortunately the staff let it down-ordered two cokes which tasted really odd told the waitress who's 1st response was "the syrup was changed this morning so it should be fine" and left. Took them to the bar and asked them to swap them for cans, they said it tasted fine to them but maybe it was the glasses??? When we went to pay the bill they tried to charge for the two cokes and the cans that we'd swapped them for (an extra £6 than what we should have been charged) got argumentative when told that we wouldn't be paying for the cokes that were sent back as they were disgusting for them to reply with "well no one else has complained" the staff really let the place down unfortunately and although the food was lovely they were enough to put you off going back. The food was just terrible 14 of us and out of the 14 only 3 was OK. On one had an idear from us entering to leaving .one membrt of staff was quit rude and the other had no idear what she was doing ,had to send food back ,cold and under cooked

The food was fantastic every thing we ordered was cooked perfectly by jo the chef and homemade chips as well its not often you find homemade chips when eating out these days, And my partner's mix grill was the best mix grill that we have seen in a long time and great value at £17.95 as we paid an extra £1 for an extra egg & sausage it was a busy night with a few other tables in as well as our party but out food was brought to our tables within 15 minutes of us placing our orders Our waitress kay was polite and very helpful for the duration of our stay The one disappointing thing was the lack of variety of desserts available as 6 of us asked for jam sponge but only 2 could have jam sponge as they had run out and didn't have any of the others available on the dessert menu except for chocolate fudge cake which we didn't fancy so we choose to opt out on the desserts but all in all it was a fantastic evening and a great way for us to celebrate my friends engagement

I’ve been here twice in the last two weeks and there is a good selection on the menu. The chips are lovely and the burgers are wow ! People will find anything to moan about this place has decent parking, good food and the lady behind the bar tonight (tues) couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be back

Went here for food yesterday as they are part of the "eat out to help" scheme. Once there we were satisfied with the food and service until the bill came......no discount was given? When I asked the staff, they advised they had been told unless people ask they are not to give it ?? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Having since discussed with others and looked it up online.... if an establishment is part of the scheme this should automatically be given Monday-Wednesday.This wasn't the end .....I then got out my card to pay to be told the offer only applies to cash .....again on researching and asking others this is also not the case ? This pub offers a basic pub grub menu that you would think would be difficult to mess up. The fish and chips is a bought in pre portioned and battered piece of fish that was dark brown and cooked to death. Best part of the meals was the chips.

The food and service here is spot on ! Always had a lovely meal here, all home made. All freshly cooked and served with a smile.

We were looking forward to eating here as we haven’t been here for years. Walked in asked for a table, yes we could have a table on the right side as you walked not the left side of the room where there is a lovely fire and the room was half empty. Sat on the left side with other guests, by radiator which was turned off. Everyone sat with their coats on, freezing cold, so after ordering drinks we decided not to eat . Drinks weren’t cheap and neither was the food so we don’t understand why the owners don’t make guests more welcome, other guests here, eating but moaning how cold it is and eating with their coats on however this wasn’t acceptable for us

We visit this establishment regularly for lunch and always receive delicious foid with superb service and a reasonable price. Highly recommend

Showed up at the rock and fountain at around 515pm on Saturday Evening not knowing whether they allowed dogs as there were no recent reviews mentioning this, the girl at the bar immediately said we're not dogs friendly, fair enough we thought, then heard a dog barking, as I can hear dog in here, she just looked at me and said yer that's his dog by there, very rude and abrupt as if they didn't want our money. Very strange, rude experience, ignore if you have a dog.

The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. The food was superb. The chips are freshly made, not frozen rubbish. The presentation of the food was great too, and the service was perfect. I have nothing at all bad to say about my experience here. I will go back.

My husband and I had lunch here. Firstly we ordered 2 starters and only one came. My husband then had the mixed grill which was very poor quality meat. I had a rump steak, we both ordered our steaks to be cooked medium and they were well cooked almost burnt-horrible. And lastly the plates were freezing and the food was luke warm. Visited last night and was met with a warm welcome. A party of 4 and all ordering a different main meal. The best recommendation I can give was the fact that at the end of the night there was 4 empty plates left on the table. The steak in particular was very good.

Called in on Thursday evening at 6:50 pm with my daughter for something to eat, ordered 16 oz gammon and chicken nuggets with chips, and a garlic bread to start.wind on 1 hour and ten minutes garlic bread came out burnt and cold it had been cooked a while before being brought out, we returned it uneaten, ten minutes later out came out mains, five minutes later a new garlic bread and a full ten minutes after my meal came the chips to accompany my meal .we did not eat the garlic bread, and when we went to pay we were told that we would not be charged for it, very good of them, worst dining experience ever.wont be going bàck.

Ok I have to confess we come here quite a bit, birthdays, special occasions, random treats...the meals are generous and tasty, the staff are VERY friendly, it’s cash only no cards taken but there is a cash machine but it charges.... the reason we come here though, they serve the best warm chocolate cake. My kid LOVES it, so does my Hubby! The decor is typical Welsh to me anyway loads of brass and stuff adorn the walls, in winter there a wood fire, it’s cosy, it’s great!

Despite having a nice night with lovely staff and good food I can only give it 3 stars, for one reason only. How can a business operate without accepting cards? There were 14 of us and we all had to use a cashpoint in the bar thar charges, yes, you get charged to pay the bill. Even my local chippy takes cards. Wake up, we're in the 22st century.

We have been here so many times and have never left a review, despite the lovely food and service we received.

Called here for an evening meal and were pleasantly surprised, The interior was nice and light and the staff helpful. Our food was served to us nice and hot straight from the kitchen, and the bonus yes real chips, We shall certainly return here and We will bring our family with us very soon.

This place never fails to disappoint. Lovely quiet pub, on a previously busy road but now off the beacon track. Always a warm welcome & busy, pub and restaurant is always clean and food is cooked to a high standard.

Came here for my partners birthday for food, I left extremely satisfied the food was absolutely top notch loved every bite and the service was just as good, I can easily say I will be returning.

This is a cracking traditional pub, no pretensions just good food, friendly service and a reasonable price. The only downside worth mentioning is they are a cash only business which is a bit unusual these days, but it’s worth being organised and visiting the cash point to enjoy the food. The pie and mash is A1, curries are tasty, the gammons generous and the chips are homemade and excellent. Perhaps not the grandest establishment but don’t let this put you off. Well worth a visit!!!

Just popped in on the way past . Staff were quite friendly especially our waitress food was nice though my jacket potato was cold but couldn’t be bothered to send it back very big portions we all struggled to finish our meals quite reasonably priced. We popped in last minute to try the Sunday roast and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted with a warm welcome from the staff and shown to our table. We all ordered the beef dinner with all the trimmings. They also offer little extras such as extra roasties for a small charge. When the dinner arrived we couldn't believe our eyes, it was was huge. The meat was cooked to perfection, veg was cooked and seasoned just right and the gravy was just like grandma used to make. We're just looking for an excuse to visit again so we can try the evening menu. Well done the rock and fountain.
