Bar Gallois in Neath Port Talbot

Great night in our staff do considering the original entertainment was cancelled and we ended up having a band and a free drink of our choice to compensate.. We enjoyed a two course meal, turkey or beef dinner & dessert, I would of preferred a starter, but wasn't given the choice.. Serving staff were a shambles, no organisation, some quite miserable!! Served hot plates then 15minutes later the meat, 10 minutes later the veg, then the gravy, which ended up being warm food.. Not one table was completely served at once only half served, which spoilt a lovely delicious meal, if i was the chef I'd be annoyed.

Not very good access for disabled people

We visited with the intention of having a few drinks on a Friday evening. We immediately ordered Espresso Martinis which took 30mins to arrive. When they did come they were clearly made incorrectly. The cocktails were very difficult to drink with each sip giving us a mouthful of coffee powder (it somehow didn’t dissolve into the cocktail). When we got near the bottom of the drink it was full of coffee residue! I wanted to order another drink but no member of staff was present - despite waiting 15mins at the bar - so we felt like we had to leave. This was at 8pm on a Friday night. And there was only one other table seated. So it’s hard to find any excuse for the above. We wanted to establish Gallois as ‘our local’ and its a shame that we’re left with feeling that our custom/presence is not wanted.

Only had time to call for a drink! Few people sitting outside enjoying the return of the warm weather!

A nice place, good food portions

Although I didn't eat at this bar, my daughter was unwell, went in to try and buy bottle of water and the lady serving was so kind, patient and give my daughter glass of ice cold water for free and let us sit outside. The food looked and smelled amazing on leaving, If my daughters wasn't unwell i would of definitely had food there. Definitely be returning to have a meal next week.

I left a glowing review for this place in 2014, how things have changed. My husband ordered pork a la creme, the meat was so tough he could barely get his knife through it, sauce was bland, myself and my mother had chicken in peppercorn sauce with saute potatoes very over cooked tasted burnt. We had quite a wait for the meals and felt if we returned the meals we would have had another long wait so didn't bother. I complained to the staff who said they were sorry and they would tell the kitchen, there was no offer of a free coffee or dessert which would have at least shown they wanted to make up for the dreadful meals and we were charged the full amount, it's a NO from me and we will never go there again

I had to wait 10 minutes for my side order, which was onion rings. The battery was barely cooked and full of fat🤢 I ordered of the Chinese menue and I have never seen fried rice like it! I had to use my knife to scrap it off the spoon. I took my grandchildren there for a treat, i felt i had to buy a deserts to comanstate the lunch they were served, which put £17.00 on top of our bill. So children do not eat free!!! it's easy to say we won't be back!

A very welcoming place, only gave a 4 stars for atmosphere, as it was early when we dined and pouring with rain, both outside their control. The food was outstanding and plentiful. We will definitely be back

Expensive at £5.75 a pint. Ended up drinking bottled lager. Was a good place to socialise 'back in the day' but looks and feels outdated by today's standards

Went for drink at dinner time well felt like I was being a inconvenience to be served had to wait while bar person went off to do something not a smile and won't have another bagett there again disappointed

Our first visit here. The food was good, the staff very friendly, there was live music (Friday evening) and the place was busy.

Awesome lunch at this restaurant. We had the tuna baguette and the Shrimp skewer. Service was top notch. We will definitely be going back.

Went to the Bar Gallois last night 28-4-2023 for port Talbot opera after show party the food was superb it was a carvery every thing cooked beautiful, the staff were first class and no rushing you in-between courses, entertainment was by The Hook very good band

Constantly playing stupidly loud music when they are situated in a residential area I got a decibel meter and last night (14.4.23) it went up to 87 council has been informed

Great welcome ,v clean, prompt service with superb quality food. Sunday lunch is amazing.

Me and my better half went for a walk to the beach and found ourselves in this watering hole it wasn't very busy as its not even the start of summer and it was £5-£6 a pint which when I paid £11 odd for our drinks I almost laughed I get a bar on the beach can be expensive but maybe dail down the prices in off peak months friendly woman served me and the place was nice and clean that's about all I can say. Not bad tad pricy

Stayed for a long weekend at Aberavon Beach and came across this restaurant by accident. My family and I ate twice for evening meal, the food and service was fantastic and very polite and friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going back on our next trip to the beach

Absolutely superb Sunday roast. Amazing service & friendly staff. Food was plentiful and all fresh. Cauliflower cheese was delicious as an extra side order.

Called in and had 2 chicken pie peas and chips. A few drinks and white chicilate dessert. Would go again friendly staff and the chicken pieces in the pie lovely.

As a local pub prices are extortionate £15 for a basic Sunday lunch £5 extra for additional courses... Also £5.50 for San Miguel... You do realise your in Port Talbot? Local places in Port Talbot charging around £1.50 less a pint.

Fair play right on our door step We don't allways eat out and went there as we looked for a Sunday roast. And wow did not disappoint was outstanding and value for money 2 courses. We deffo be back Sundays

Nice location for this place but biggest let down is the food sorry pizza was black underneath. Lamb skewers bland .lasagne very poor chips dreadful. Chicken burger tasteless no flavour at all just deep fried in oil . Carpet to the kitchen very dirty table’s very sticky and grubby very disappointed with the standard of food for the price . Could be a gold mine if it had a deep clean and up the food for taste . Bonus was the young guy singing he was awesome

Lovely little spot . Beer garden is dog friendly close to the beach.

Where do I start toilets no paper, no soap (COVID!!), service was slow but nothing was so disappointing as the food. Tempura prawns should be crisp not soggy, warm not cold. Garlic mushrooms at leat fresh not frozen bread underneath mushrooms (no words). Bruschetta all onions struggled to find a tomato. Loaded nachos! soggy bland and awful. Never have a meal here again and I have been coming here for last 15 years ☹️

Had my daughter s birthday party ther it wasn’t cheap staff had the worse attitude and the manager had the attitude of a pig she picked on everything we did don’t know her name but she was blonde I booked the dj to start at 6 he showed up at 6.20 me and my sister had to help him in with he’s equipment the function room was so dirty I had to wipe our feet on the way out I had to bring air freshener because the room smelled so bad the attitude of the manager and the staff was absolutely disgusting but happy enough to take our money stay clear

The Bar Gallois is a lovely place to eat. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We were able to walk in (without an booking) and enjoy the good quality food they served with good WiFi too! It is an all around lovely place to eat followed by a walk on the beach or along the sea front. I highly recommend the Bar Gallois.

Always like to give positive reviews,!shame can't do on this occasion , dirty tables ,even after cleaning inside,lovely barstaff mind!!! too expensive for the area, won't be going back, wanted to dine in but only certain menu available, not made clear when we looked at menu on line,

We live very nearby this bar/ restaurant , The location is very nice. if you sit outside on a summer day , its lovely watching people with the sea in the background. However, when we visited recently we only ordered 2 beers and one was very cloudy. after talking to a bar person no offer to change the drink was offered. my wife did try but it tasted horrible. the prices of drinks and food here are vastly over priced, which is a shame because it could be such a nice local place for us to use.

Nice cooling pint on the patio in the sun. Roast dinners looked lovely.

Nice place, friendly service. Steak was a nice thick piece of meat but a little tough, the cheesecake made up for it though. Overall a nice place I'd definitely try again.

Lunch time visit, as we are pensioners our appetites are not what they used to be so the Tapas Menu suited us down to the ground. Nice to see an old friend of ours too, Tash who used to be the Manageress of the Castle Hotel. Would recommend.

I attended a wedding evening function on the 21st April 2022 - what a brilliant night! The atmosphere, staff, food and DJ five star! Would absolultely recommend this venue!

Wonderful function room attended an 18th birthday party and the space was perfect.

Had an excellent meal here on Tuesday. The quality of the starters was fantastic, Tempura Prawns and Garlic Mushrooms. The main course of Skewers was beautifully presented and the portions were extremely generous. The staff were so friendly and helpful, we definitely intend to return.

Food was okay, but nothing special. Menu was quite limited. We didn't plan to go out so hadn't booked but they were able to accommodate us. There was only one toilet available at the time of our visit which meant you had to queue. Staff serving at the table were pleasant enough and helpful, but obviously had little to no training and support like a drinks menu was not available.

Nice place, close to the beach. The tapas were lovely, it could have been a meal for two. Reasonably priced.

Absolutely superb steak last night at the bar Gallois. We met 2 friends who travelled to meet us for dinner. We suggested the bar Gallois and we weren't disappointed. Great service as always, lovely warm environment and compliments to the chef on outstanding food !! All washed down with a great bottle of Malbec. Thanks again all, see you again soon.

Ordered the tapas last Saturday lunch time. The food was delicious and staff really friendly, excellent service. Have recommended to a friend who lives near port talbot.

Had pizza last night, I've had pizza all over world, consider myself a pizza connoisseur. The pizza I had in Bar Gallois was probably the worst I've had. Could only eat one slice, undercooked, over priced rubbish. Took home to my son (will eat anything), could not eat it. Terrible.

The food was great and the cocktails also brilliant. Atmosphere was good with live music and the room was nice and warm and cosy. Everyone at the restaurant seemed to be enjoying. Prices are also very reasonable for the quality that you are getting. Overall me and my partner had a brilliant meal and a brilliant night. My photos don’t really do the food and drink justice.

We had a wonderful time at Bar Gallois for OAP Christmas lunch yesterday, the food was plentiful and delicious, 3 games of free bingo but the biggest shout out was to the staff they were so helpful and accommodating, will definitely visit again. Thank you 👏👏😊

Outstanding service and excellent food at Bar Gallois and well located for a walk along the beach afterwards. Tapas menu is excellent and is great value and quality. We’ll be back!

Have passed this not so little bar on many occasion when visiting the beach. But in view that a very talented beautiful friend was performing there we booked tickets. The evening included a 2 course pre show carvery. Weren't really looking to eat out but we wanted to see our friend perform so along we went. We were a little early so called into the very quiet Bar/Restaurant (people staying home as the rugby was on) for a drink first. We were greeted by lovely friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. The function suite was in the other side of the pub/restaurant. A large airy room beautifully decorated with a long well presented bar and more very smart friendly staff. We eat before the show which was as enjoyable as always with January Reese on top form and keeping the audience in stitches with her knuckle crossing humour. Our sides were aching. We'll done Jan and amazing performance especially with the professional heckler in attendance. I must however mention the food. All very obviously fresh produce (not a frozen veg in sight). The meat a choice of Beef or Turkey. I chose Turkey, beautifully cooked to perfection succulent meat. Or Beef so beautifully cooked to such tenderness it melted in the mouth. The roast veg were perfect on perfectly done all through golden and crispy on the outside. Accompanied by fresh veg cranberry/horseradish and perfect gravy. I have to say it was the best carvery I have ever had. The evening culminated in dancing and merryment accompanied by excellent tunes provided by the friendly DJ. If you get the chance to attend an event, go for the carvery if nothing else! Based on our experience we will definately be back to sample the very reasonable well chosen menu. If you've over looked this little gem, make a point of visiting. You won't be disappointed! Can't recommend it enough. Thankyou for an all round perfect evening.

Great meal and very friendly. I've been coming to this place since I was a schoolboy,!

The staff were friendly & helpful But the food was very disappointing! My Daughter and I had the bar gallouis burger & chips, with a side order of garlic bread. The Burger (not sure what meat was used)? I can oy describe it as a microwave burger, not pleasant at all.. Then the onion rings were swarming in oil 🤢 . I wanted to the bring it up to the staff there & then, but my daughter didn't want me to approach them over it.. Safe to say we will not be coming back, or wouldn't recommend them..

We called into this lovely presented bar/restaurant after a nice day at Aberavon beach. We were late coming in but the friendly staff were very accommodating and found us a table for my family of four. We had the Sunday carvery and it exceeded our expectations. The food was plentiful and very tasty, our 8 year old can not wait to go back, she enjoyed so much. Lovely restaurant and the staff could not do enough for us even when our very tired 3 year old was getting a bit mischievous, they were very good with her. Delicious food, nice atmosphere, nothing not to like!

Pleasantly surprised by the food. We had a selection of tapas, steak and lamb koftas, all tasty, well cooked and reasonably priced. Service was VERY mixed, guessing a new member of staff who forgot two drinks, as did a lady who was possibly a manager? Probably forgot because she spent most of her time on her phone, rarely looking at customers. Luckily, there was also another member of staff, well he was amazing. Great personality, really bubbly and chatty, great rapport with all the customers who came through the doors. Well done Jude, this review wouldn’t have been as positive without you! (Asked his name before we left because we all noticed his level of customer service!)
