Robinsons Brewery Visitors Centre in Stockport

As a resident of Stockport all my life, my friend from Finland came to visit and we took a tour aroudn the brewey (both for the first time). After walking past countless times It was fascinating to learn about the rich history and see in side. Gary was a fantastic guide, very knowledgable! Very reasonably priced especially considering the free beers at the end!

Brewery tour today, an excellent tour with a superbly entertaining and knowledgeable guide Gary. Fascinating insight into the history of the brewery, how things were done in the past and how it's all changed today. Topped off with a fine selection of beers in the bar afterwards and an excellent meal in their restaurant,

Brewery tour with my dad today, upgraded to the gold package which was a superb gift. The tour guide Gary was first class, very knowledgable and kept the whole party involved for the entire tour.Had a Ham Bloomer with salad and chips afterwards which was delicious. The bread was fresh and the ham was lovely thick slices. All the staff were really friendly. Would certainly recommend the whole experience.

We've done several similar tours but this was the stand out. Our guide Barry had a deep knowledge and understanding of both the process and the history of the plant. Following the tour we had lunch in the restaurant. Lovely food at a very reasonable price! Highly recommended!

Gary was a great tour guide. He was energetic, enthusiastic and passionate his subject. We learned alot. It would have been better if we could ask more questions. It was great to see Robinson's taking such good care of the shire horses as they are a endangered species

I booked a brewery tour (gold package) at Robinsons Brewery in Stockport for my husband as part of his Christmas present. The price was very reasonable and the brewery itself is within easy walking distance of Stockport town centre. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and did not wait long for our tour guide to collect us. The tour itself was very informative not only about the brewing process, how it has/hasn't changed over the years but also about the family who have owned the company from its beginnings to today. Our tour guide, Gary, was courteous, entertaining and was able to answer our questions. At the end of the tour we got to sample any of the beers (very tasty!) As we had the Gold package, we got a beer goody bag too. There is a gift shop in the reception area (to buy alcohol plus a selection of souvenirs) but there is absolutely no pressure to buy anything. A great afternoon out!

I went to Robinsons brewery centre for a day with my friends and what a day we had the tour guide Barry was brilliant passionate and knowledgable afterwards we had a love lunch at the pub restaurant in the centre and the food and service was excellent I would recommend this brewery tour to any who loves brewery tours the golden ticket is the best value if ur not driving Go for it you won’t be sorry

Visited again - [came last January too] to get the New Year off to a good start and this visit was even better than last years :). Our guide Gary was both equally passionate and well informed about both beer [always a good thing] and the Robinson's family and its great history. His style was very relaxed and amply punctuated with good humour and anecdotes - well done Gary , added to a great day, thank you. As stated this it was a great start to the New Year - both my mate and I thoroughly enjoyed the beer - especially the Old Tom [my favourite ale, bar none] and lunch in the relaxed restaurant was very reasonably priced , well presented and scrumptious. The young lady and gentleman who were serving behind the bar were both very charming and helpful - over all a fabulous day and will be back again.....definitely.

Took my mum for afternoon tea. Easy to park for us, as disabled parking for my mum. Not any parking close otherwise. The afternoon tea was really nice and plenty to eat. Great to have straight forward food rather than fancy food. Noticed when we were there that they also do lunch and dinner meals as well. Really nice for a change.

This was not what I expected at all. In fact it exceeded my expectations by a huge amount. From the warm welcome upon entry to the final thank you for coming from Gary our tour host this is one not to be missed.The brewery tour is a fascinating insight into how the beer is made now and how it was through the years. Gary the guide has a great style of presentation, never boring and gets you involved in what's happening. From seeing the Shire horses, looking at the memorabilia, right through to the tasting of the beers it's a cracking few hours. If you are a Maiden fan there is some Maiden gear to buy and Gary has some good tales to tell about Bruce and how Trooper came about. Well worth purchasing the golden ticket as the goody bag alone is great! Definitely a great gift for someone, like me,for their birthday.

Food was very nice, clean , beer nice too, overall service good, so yes I would go back. In fact I will go back?

Really enjoyed the tour, our guide Gary was so knowledgeable and a credit to the company. Learnt alot and enjoyed sampling the ales at the end. Was wrongly told it was £2 a pint as we had done the tour. It was only for the first pint at that price. Nonetheless it was a great tour and would recommend it.

Very disappointed with our Monday Lunch visit. No tours that day. Pictures on their menu indicate fine dining ours was hardly that. My elderly guest has eating disorder and could only order a very small portion of one of the dishes and omitting some of the items. When we received the bill we were charged the full menu price. I e-mailed the next day to express my view but did not receive a reply.

There were no spaces available in car park - even disabled were taken with vehicles not displaying a badge! We arrived in restaurant to find they could not find our booking - apparently they had not transferred from a sheet to the day’s diary

Myself and my three daughters celebrated my husband's birthday with a tour and a meal. First time we've visited the centre and it won't be the last. All staff are friendly and had great knowledge about their beers. Gary was a great tour guide lots of facts and humour.

Had an excellent afternoon on the brewery tour followed by sampling good beer and food, Gary was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable, a credit to the brewery!

Booked the Brewery Tour for a party of 10. We were very well looked after by Gary who spoke in depth about the brewing process and the Robinson Family which was very interesting. Using no microphone he was as clear as a bell despite background machinery - the perfect tour guide. Many of us sampled the beers included with the tour - with new knowledge on how the taste is achieved and served by Gary, others having a wine or coffee.

Yes, this is our 3rd visit to an English brewery, and this was very interesting. Even though we are not experts in making Beer, we received good information from Gary.

I booked this as a birthday gift for my in-laws, but at the last minute my mother-in-law couldn’t go so my husband accompanied his father along for the Brewery Tour, followed by a pre-booked Afternoon Tea. He found it very interesting and his tour guide, Gary, was extremely knowledgeable. Be aware that there are quite a number of steps around the tour as it spans multiple floors, so his elderly father did struggle a little. Despite this, he found it really enjoyable and learned lots of new things about his hometown and the environment around the Visitors Centre. I purchased the afternoon tea via Groupon and had no problems at all adding the tour separately, thanks to the very helpful Anna on reception. The afternoon tea was yummy and he would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in local history, even if you don’t like a beer!

Birthday treat from my girlfrind. Very interesting and informative tour, thanks Gary! Beers included in the taster session were lovely, and I look forward to trying the blottles I brought home from the shop.

My husband and I visited recently. Our tour guide was Gary. He was witty, extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions. He also delivered all the information seamlessly, which is quite a skill when you're walking around for over an hour and constantly explaining all the brewing processes, the history etc.I learned a lot about the history of the brewery, never realised that the water comes from 600 feet below ground!

Interesting informative and funny tour with more info than could remember. Gary as tour guide is a natural and couldn’t stop talking. Food very good and the beer wasn’t bad also!!

Did the tour for my husbands birthday recently. Ours was the first the tour of the day and it turned out to be just us two with our guide Gary.

We finally took the tour today, having walked past the Visitors Centre many times and promised ourselves we would get round to it. A birthday treat offered the perfect opportunity. Our tour guide, Gary, was excellent: Friendly, knowledgeable and informative. You learn about modern brewing methods and actually see the process up close, while also seeing the older, copper equipment used for many years (until quite recently). Great if you’re interested in local social history too; in addition to what you learn from your guide, there are informative displays about the Robinson family and the growth and expansion of the company as you enter the Visitors Centre. Add in the tasters at the end of the tour (3 x a third of a pint so you can sample three different beers) and a lovely lunch afterwards - well worth a visit!

I was on an organised visit with our local National Trust group.We experienced a well planned tour of the brewery describing both the historical and current methods of manufacture along with associated equipment. Our guide Gary was a superb interesting and informative speaker,probably the best I have had the pleasure of listening to on my many National Trust visits.

Really informative brewery tour (we've done a few in the past, but this one was the best!). Gary was funny, patient, friendly and happy to answer (or find out the answer) to any questions.Great taster beers served in thirds of a pint on a platter at the end too with tasty food from the restaurant.

On a trip to Uk and Ireland we visited 3 different breweries. The Robinson’s tour was the most informative and best by a long shot. While the others were all glam and large you didn’t actually see the beer being made. The Robinson’s tour was extremely good. Accessibility would be a challenge if you couldn’t do stairs. I would recommend this tour.

We went as a group of 5 to Robinsons Brewery Visitors Centre on 5th September, as a family day out. Our tour guide was Gary and he was a wonderful guide. He was very friendly and welcoming; at the beginning of the tour he asked where we were all from and later on Gary tailored the information he was giving so he included local references, making it more personal to us.

Bought a voucher off groupon for an afternoon tea at the Unicorn which is located within the visitors centre.

I took my partner for a tour on his 30th birthday. To be honest, I wasn't too excited about the idea, he's the real ale freak not me. But we both had a lovely day. We were showed round by Gary and his passion and knowledge made the experience a great one. I now have more of an interest in brewing!

I have been to the visitor centre many times for food and have rarely been disappointed even when they are busy. This time did the full tour on the hottest day of the year. Gary was very knowledgeable about the brewing process, although stated that Robinsons only used to make two beers, bitter and mild, neglecting Old Tom, the beer that used to be and sometimes still is only served as a half pint due to having a high alcohol by volume. Still an enjoyable tour. Would highly recommend booking a table if you are taking the tour over lunchtime, as nowhere to sit at the end.

Its taken me a while to write this, not sure why, I meant to do it at the time! I booked this as a treat for my other half's birthday, given that he is very much a craft ale man. So I tagged along thinking I wouldn't like it, I couldn't have been more wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide was super friendly and very knowledgeable about everything Robinson's. He was engaging and great fun ( sorry I cannot remember his name!) I have lived in Stockport for 41 years and my Grandad used to work for Robinsons, so it was very interesting for me.

Four of us attended the tour on a Saturday afternoon, having lived in Stockport for many years , we finally got round to visiting the Brewery.

Met up with Gary our Guide who was extremely informative and very funny too!

My wife and I were keen to visit Robinson’s while in Stockport as we enjoy their beers. The visitor centre is two minutes stroll from the market hall and all its surrounding shops and pubs - very convenient.

War sehr informativ und beeindruckend. Nun verstehe ich wie die verschiedenen englischen Biere hergestellt werden (malt blending) und wie man Wasser für britisches Buer konditioniert (burtonize)! Den letzten Prozessschritt des Bierbrauens habe ich am meisten geschätzt!? Die Verkostung der Robinson Biere!

Arrived a bit early,so managed a pint of Trooper first(bit overpriced)We then met the gorgeous Della,our guide,she was funny,very informative and had a vast knowledge of the entire brewing process,she made it a really good tour,(thanks Della x).

Just had the afternoon tea, it was delicious, a nice variety of cakes and sandwiches. Comfy seats, everywhere nice and clean. Will definitely be going back one day :)

A great choice to tour this iconic family owned Brewery. Our tour guide Gary was an outstanding host and his knowledge of the beer making process was excellent. What appealed the most was that the Brewery has it’s old equipment still in place alongside the new. This allowed Gary to explain the technological changes and compare processes.

Was looking forward to an afternoon tea here but found it extremely basic. The sandwiches were quite boring (ham and tuna), no clotted cream for the scone just a very soft cream & they looked messy, no pastries etc, with just some basic sponge-type cake. The cutlery was also a bit marked. Disappointed that it was so basic.

Delighted to finally see a Lager in the Trooper Range (Sun and Steel) and it was on Tap and in Bottles at the Bar. Never been one for the dark heavy ales and always prefer the crisp and refreshing lagers so hopefully more to come. I went on the last tour of the day 1530, Gary was our guide. Gary is enthusiastic and knowledgeable and gave a detailed introduction in reception before taking us round, its probably warm during all stages of the tour regardless of time of year but more so in some summer so dress light. You go to the top of brewery and work your way down, some tasting of ingredients along the way and a look/smell of some hops too. It all looks so simple when going through, they still have a lot of old kit for you to see alongside the new shiny stuff. I paid for the Gold Option which allows you more beers to sample at the end of the tour and you also get a free robinsons hessian gift bag with 6 Beers - i chose the trooper selection which had 2 x Trooper, 2 x Red and Black and 2 x Light Brigade in it. Recommend for all beer enthusiasts and of course Maiden Fans!

What a gem this place is, a real family business with a great history of brewing. Gary our tour guide was immensely knowledgeable on the brewery history and brewing process. It’s well worth a visit and why not treat yourselves to a lovely afternoon tea while you’re there

Wonderful afternoon tea, great food and service, excellent value for money. Great range of sandwiches lovely cakes, with full size homemade scones included. Nice decor and comfortable seating with nice ambiance. Highly recommend

Our tour guide Gary was fantastic. Very pleasant, well humoured and knowledgeable. He made what is a complex process for brewing easy to understand whilst intertwining the breweries rich and interesting history.

My wife booked a tour for my 50th birthday because of the connection with Iron maiden. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone for a good day out. The staff are so polite and bent over backwards for us as we had some problems with our first booking ( nothing to do with the brewary). They sorted it out and welcomed us.loved every minute of it.

Had a nice afternoon tour with Gary who was very enthusiastic. He showed us round everything and explained in detail also providing samples of hops to taste abd smell. We started at tge top abd worked downwards finally tasting a few samples. Pleasant afternoon.

This family owned brewery run by the Robinson Family is an excellent tour experience which all can enjoy finishing with a selection tasting of several of their different beers and the shire horse stables.Highly recommended

The tour was conducted with enthusiasm and expertly by our guide Gary. We started off on the tour by being introduced to one of the giant shire horses and then went across to the Visitor Centre where Gary gave us very interesting history of the Robinson family and how the Brewery progressed to present day. We were led through each process of how the necessary ingredients were added at the different stages until we finished with a choice of ales to taste. The tour took over an hour and was very interesting and informative. Would very highly recommend both the tour and the many varied choices of Robinson’s ales!

12 of us had lunch at the brewery visitor centre which is open to the public for lunch not just if you visit for a brewery tour.

We had the steak and ale pie it was very disappointing ,a very small portion over cooked veg and the chips tasted like oven chips all in all pie and chips £11 lol Robinsons you must do better

Nice, attractive place to have a good quality meal and a pint of their great beer. I like the decor of this brewery experience restaurant, it’s modern but in keeping with the brewery experience theme. There is table service and the waiting on staff were polite and helpful. Toilets very clean and had extra touches like boxes of tissues and hand cream.

I had the fortune and privilege to visit the brewery tour with my son recently. I have been on numerous brewery tours and visits in various places around the world and this was by far the best one I've ever been on!!

My wife bought me a voucher for this tour as an extra Christmas present. I live locally and am quite partial to a pint of Robinson's Unicorn bitter. The tour lasts for about an hour, starting at the top of the building and working its way down to the bottom as each stage of the process is performed on a different floor. The brewing process and the history of the brewery was explained in detail by our extremely knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide, Gary. The tour finishes with a chance to taste the brews, with three third-of-a-pint glasses of your choice. Highly recommended.

My son bought me a tour of this brewery as a gift. And very pleasant it was. The tour guide was called Gary who was certainly knowledgeable and entertaining. There is a pleasant bar and restaurant to wine and dine in at the end of the tour and spend your 3 bottle tops. Well worth a visit.

This was an excellent group tour, full of information, knowledge and humour. Gary was an excellent guide.

Having meant to do the brewery tour for a long time we were lucky enough to get a 2 for 1 offer. The guide Gary was brilliant he was very knowledgeable but injected lots of humour into the tour. I would highly recommend the tour and the inclusive beer was much needed at the end.

We went for the tour on a Saturday morning. Arriving early we first went across the road to see the shire horses in the stables. The tour itself was over an hour long (which was probably a bit too long) and the guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the brewery and the brewing process. The tour ended in the bar where you got to try some beer with three 1/3 pints included. I probably wouldn't go on the tour again but if I'm ever back in Stockport I would go back to the bar for a pint.

Had a lovely afternoon great company unfortunately the sandwiches were a little soggy the cheese and tomato in particular were a long time made had a funny texture. Other items were good. Comfortable seats and well spaced tables

Excellent tour, our tour Guide Gary was very informative and knowledgable about the brewing process he made it very interesting. We then had a meal in the restaurant which was very nice,the soup was delicious. Will definitely go back to the restaurant again.

We are currently sat in the unicorn bar! We arrived a little early for the tour so had some food which was beautiful! The tour was great ! Gary was so lovely, very approachable, very knowledgeable and made us feel at ease. So glad to have this place! We will be back 100%

Robinson's Brewery Visitor Centre is home to the very nice Unicorn bar and restaurant, a fab combination of the very best, freshest beer and delicious food. From breakfast to brunch to lunch there's a comprehensive menu including plenty of veggie options, and the specials board for extras and desserts. Drinks are not limited to Robbie's beers, there's the usual wines and spirits you'd expect in a smart gastro-pub or restaurant. You don't need to go on the fascinating tour of the working brewery, the Unicorn bar operates as a normal pub, but if you want to eat, I would advise booking, especially at weekends, just to make sure you get a table. Generous portions and using their beer in the recipes, mark this out as a unique venue, and they can cater for couples all the way up to conferences and meetings, remember that if your firm needs that sort of facility! It must also be one of the only gastro-pubs with huge shire horses to see and stroke, as the dray horses are stabled opposite, they sometimes offer days out with them for the horse-mad amongst you. It's a bit hidden away on back street at the rear of the brewery, but there is a small car-park and near-by off street parking, but going by taxi means more beer can be enjoyed. Been many times for family get-togethers, parties and just for a meal and a few ales, and can honestly say I have never been disappointed. Summed up? Not just for beer lovers, for everyone!

Very knowledgeable guide. Interesting tour because of the history of the brewery as well as the brewing process. Tour does require some climbing but nothing too strenuous. Choice of three different beers at the end of the tour. The bar also has a cafe. Worth a visit.

Sincere thanks to Robinsons for hosting our Board meeting yesterday. Fantastic venue. Gary was so informative on the Brewery tour and the restaurant staff looked after us impeccably. Highly recommend a visit to one and all.

Gary was a superb guide and not only showed us the brewery but also gave a very interesting talk on the history of Robinsons. It is a bit of a hike up to the 5th. floor but it is worth the effort, and you are shown the old and the new together, which makes for a very interesting tour.

Gary, our Guide was so enthusiastic, even though the tour was the last of the day and only comprised three of us. Good to see enthusiasm maintained right up until the end!!

Staff were very quick and polite but we were very dissapointed with the afternoon tea. Sandwichs were ok but we both hate brie and the cakes were festive themed mince pies and a bit of christmas pudding which was cold had to ask staff to warm it as could not eat it cold and my daughtet does not like mince pies or pudding. Would suggest a bit of chocolate cake would of been better.

Gary was great, very knowledgeable and kept everybody interested, the brewery is a lovely place and full of history, special treat meeting the Shire horses and then a little tipple in the bar afterwards was the perfect way to start the Christmas festivities, brilliant.

Enjoyed an excellent tour with GARY our guide. Very interesting and informative visit. Makes me proud to be a Stopfordian and have the amazing Unicorn Brewery on my doorstep. Smelt the Californian hops on the tour and then sampled the end product in the Dizzy Blonde ale in the bar. Delicious!

Friendly service. food wasn't great. My friend had the gammon which was very rare in parts. I had the burger.....The Onion rings were so hard that I almost snapped a tooth. Salad and coleslaw was limp and was a couple of days past it's best. The bacon on the burger also had potential to snap teeth. Presentation was ok, but for the price, 12 chips seemed a bit stingy considering a 12.5kg sack of potatoes costs £2 at the local supermarket.

Just done the Robinson brewery tour this afternoon. Gary was our tour guide ....( apparently Terry does the bad tours) And he did his job well. Very informative throughout the tour and we'll worth the travel up from Hampshire. At the end of the tour there is a great bar to relax and enjoy the ales you've just learnt all about.

Just got back from a fun filled night on the Haunted Brewery Tour. Very informative tour around the brewery along with added surprises hidden throughout. The tour was rounded off with a pint or cocktail, the food was amazing, hot and tasty. I will definitely be visiting again and look forward to next year.

Came here for afternoon tea (Groupon Voucher) which was a treat from a friend. Really lovely food but with the freshest pint of beer (Dizzy Blonde brewed on site) I’ve ever had. Other diners enjoyed a really great meal from a good menu.

Went with a group of friends everyone enjoyed the food and the choice was good.prices reasonable and food high standard. Staff very friendly and helpful.

We visited as part of Stockport beer week as always the staff are great and the drinks. Very clean and tidy and the staff are very helpful and cheery. Great selection of drinks. We were sorry to arrive after the food was stopped serving but that’s our own fault. We love having a look around the shop. Can’t wait to call again.

Utterly Fascinating. Really interesting brewery tour, Gary our guide was a fountain of knowledge on all things beery. Excellent beers on offer to sample after the tour.

Myself and my father went to the brewery for his Christmas Treat (I know it's September but he lives away) and also my birthday treat. When we arrived we were welcomed by an extremely friendly receptionist who was very pleased to help us. She introduced us to Gary are tour guide for the day and explained the itinery, because we had to hang our coats up she even went out of her way to keep my father's wallet secure whilst we did the tour. Excellent service. When you enter the visitor centre you are greeted with an extremely, clean and welcoming environment which includes a shop where you can even buy your favorite tipple, souvenirs and incorporates the full history of the brewey. When browsing the shop waiting for out tour to start, low and behold Peter Hickman the senior Isle of Man TT winner who is sponsered by Robinson's walks through the door. After a few photoshoots by the brewery I managed to get a quick selfie, and he kindly signed a beer mat for us, I then found out he was on the tour with us what a privilege! The tour is very comprehensive and explains the brewing process from start to finish. The tour guide Gary was extremely friendly and approachable and was more than happy to answer any questions I will give Gary alone 5* We even got to meet the Shire horses used for shows. After finishing the tour we entered into a very clean and well presented modern bar where the lovely bar lady issued us with our free 3 x 1/3 glasses of beer (best bit the tasting) The beer was amazing and even better it came straight from source. We sat down at one of the tables to have lunch the food was outstanding my father had gammon steak and all the trimmings and I had seafood platter it was that big I had to ask for a takeaway carton for my supper lol.

Visité hoy para el té de la tarde con tres amigos. Mencioné que soy vegetariano, así que junto con la cantidad habitual de sandwiches también trajeron uno aparte para mí. Toda la comida fue absolutamente deliciosa.

My husband and I visited the Brewery last week and found it very interesting. I have lived in Stockport all my life so Robbies Beer and their beautiful Shire Horses are part and parcel of Stockport life. The tour lasted just iver an hour and was fascinating to see the old and new equipment side by side. Our guide was funny and knowledgable although it was very warm in all areas.

All staff, from reception to bar, were friendly. Our guide, Bernice, was truly passionate about her job and the family business..very knowledgeable and delivered information in a way that you would not think this was her third tour of the day.

Tour is well worth the money. Very interesting with an opportunity to sample the beer at the end. Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Recommended

We went off recommends and weren't disappointed. The menu has some interesting beer related items on it and so far the only thing I couldn't recommend would be the onion rings in beer batter and I usually love onion rings.

I have lived in Stockport all my life so have grown up with Robinsons. I was actually born in the bar of one of their pubs so we thought we would try the restaurant for lunch. We were not disappointed! It was absolutely lovely. The place itself is modern with an old fashioned Robinsons twist. The staff were warm, attentive and friendly. And the food was just amazing. All the food has a Robinsons name which was really quirky and all fresh ingredients at an amazing price. We will be regular visitors in future and will definitely bring the family. Went on the brewery tour on Thursday 19th January 2018. Our guide was excellent, extremely knowledgeable. Anyone who is thinking of going, you really should, very interesting.
