The most tasty warm chicken roll I have ever eaten. I try to visit once a week, but this particular visit was an exception I think it’s the most tasty sandwich I have ever eaten. Cooked to perfection and the service is great as always Highly recommended

I have visited this lovely little cafe a few times now. The food is freshly prepared and the quality of everything is excellent. Everything tastes delicious and is well worth paying a little extra for. My personal opinion is that it is worth every penny. First time visiting Robineau’s with my mum, hoping for a lovely cuppa and possibly a light bite. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation. We said we didn’t. Coldly and abruptly the lady said well I don’t think I’ve got a table I’ll have to check. She said, are you here for lunch, we said no, just a drink really. The response.. you do realise it’s just the lunch menu on, so I replied, well we would just like a drink and maybe a cake. To her horror, she kept looking for a table and said we could have one in the restaurant for half an hour. Both mum and I looked at the table in the shop area with loads of junk on and she noticed and she said we could sit there. All with absolute resentment. Never felt so unwelcome in my life! Took 15 mins to take our order, so we couldn’t have had the table in the restaurant anyway and I had to ask for someone to come and take our order from the lady behind the counter. Mum and I had cream tea. Which was beautiful!! Really lovely scone and tasty tea and it came withina very reasonable amount of time. So, shout out to the kitchen!!! Because we were stunned by the lack of manners/customer service, we didn’t stay long though. I got up and went to the counter where there was one woman, I asked for our bill and she looked at me and wandered off. Then another woman appeared with her and then they wandered off together looked at me and literally walked away to the back of the restaurant without saying a word! I was like, what, so do I just leave or follow or what!!? Honestly, such bad communication. She ended up getting the bill, thankfully, and we wanted to pay with cash. She wouldn’t allow it. She was rude and just said everyone now pays by card, so we don’t do cash anymore. Right ok, that’s fine. But put a sign up. Make that clear! And tell me nicely. Stop with all the attitude! So definitely will not be returning however good their scones are! I’ve just been to Claridge’s, seriously, get your staff trained in customer service! Shocking.

Delicious afternoon tea with friends. You don’t get an afternoon tea like this anywhere else. All the savoury treats are that bit different and exceptional quality. The sweet patisserie are similarly tasty and all of high quality. Staff are all very friendly and make it a relaxed and enjoyable experience.

First time here, and hopefully not the last. Good choice for breakfast/brunch. We enjoyed summer super salad and quiche Lorraine. For the price, the quiche could have been a little greater in portion; the ‘salad’ served with the quiche was a bunch of lettuce leaves picked from an iceberg and nothing else - don’t know whether this was because we wanted undressed salad, or the norm, but certainly wasn’t a salad. The super salad was yummy. There was a great choice of cakes, and we enjoyed strawberry tart and custard tart (not cheap, but worth a treat) Staff were friendly and efficient, despite getting busy towards lunch time

The ambiance, the service, the food, and the atmosphere all lovely. A delicious array of hand crafted bakery and patisserie. 4 star. Major problem for those of us who find they have mobility issues and using stairs either very difficult or impossible. There used to be a loo for those less mobile on the ground floor, due to covid restrictions apparently the space where it was located was needed. There is nothing in the way of a loo other than upstairs. I would plead with the owners to install a stair lift please. One of the main things those who have to plan any outing, large or small, look for, is car parking ( I know this is out of the owner's hands) and accessible facilities. Unfortunately my visits in the future may be unlikely and I am so disappointed.

I’ve been here numerous times and recommended them to loads of people. The last few times I’ve been in (for take out) I’ve found the staff to be getting ruder and more ignorant. I went yesterday and was completely ignored by the person behind the counter. I was literally the only person in the shop. She saw me come in and walk to the counter. Obviously writing out the signs was more important than serving an actual customer. I just walked out in the end. I absolutely won’t be recommending them anymore. There’s so many lovely places to spend money on food in Darlington and surrounding areas. Don’t bother wasting your money here!

Our online shopping and then in-shop collection of out order from Robineau was simplicity itself. We were absolutely delighted with the quality and range of products on offer, which catered for the wide range of dietary needs and restrictions amongst our guests at a recent family gathering. All of the items orderd - incl. large goats cheese, beetroot & red onion quiche, smoked haddock indian spiced mini fishcakes, raspberry & almond meringue, salted caramel squares, large raspberry & pear frangipane and mini scone platter - were of the best quality and delicious. All of our guests commented on how good all that they tasted was, with everybody asking for the details of the store before they departed home. All of the items were ready for collection when we called, and all came well packed. The counter staff - who were busy when we called to collect - were both highly efficient and very polite/helpful (as they always are) - even going so far to help us carry our order out to our car. To end thank you to all production and customer service side at Robineau, you helped make our family reunion and celebration a most enjoyable and memorable one for all concerned!

I am originally from Darlington but now live in Leeds.I return every other week to visit my mum.Without fail I always either visit Robineaus to take her a little treat or on occasion have taken her for afternoon tea.We both love this place the products are exceptional, consistent and just lovely.I visited today to buy a little something for mum as we were celebrating our Mothers Day today instead of Sunday. The shop wasn’t that busy, one man who was being served by a lady in a black suit and he seemed to be buying everything in the shop to take away. It just seemed he took for ever to serve. Did he really need telling the jam was for his scones ?Another lady also purchasing virtually one of everything while taking it upon herself to entertain everyone else waiting in the queue.Without any exaggeration I must have stood waiting at least 15 minutes without any acknowledgement from any member of staff.Any other shop I would have walked out , but because I didn’t want to let mum down I waited. The lady that did eventually serve me with what I wanted.I just think you really let yourselves down today on the customer services front, and I’m upset I had to write this review but the staff were in the wrong today.I will return because I love your products and usually impeccable service.Today I was left feeling undervalued as a long standing customer

It's been five years since my last review of Robineau Cafe but not since I last ate there. So, I though that it was time for another review. Over the last five years I have eaten there several times each year and the experience has never diminished. Friendly and courteous staff serving fantastic food. This months visit was no exception and for me the sign of a good eatery is being able to maintain the high standard that has been set from the start - Robineau Cafe has easily done this. Given that, I shall continue to eat there whenever I can and long may it continue. One should not forget that the take a way side is also fantastic.

This is a great place to go if you like light healthy dishes and tiny, beautifully presented cakes. End of a road trip up to Newcastle from London and stopped off in Darlington for breakfast. The façade looks like a fancy cake shop but behind is a delightful tearoom with artists gallery on the first floor. Three lads all ordered full English but the breakfast menu was far more comprehensive then that meeting all needs. The food was served in chef like towers, eg tomato on top of sausage ring, very presentable, but the plate was big enough to de-construct and tick in! Clearly top ingredients used and the food as prepared with care. Complementary newspapers and generous sized cups and pots for tea and coffee. Clearly a venue for the chattering classes of Darlington but lovely staff, super food and great care taken. Why not five stars? The use of paper napkins not cloth was not such a crime for breakfast but I wont give five stars without proper napkins! £45 for three was not extortionate and given the quality of the ingredients was good value.

Now this place is no for you if you are wanting a cheap greasy fry up, the menu is tasteful and on the higher end but the food is delicious. Met friends here for breakfast. Had full English which was lovely. I don't eat black pudding so there was no problem swapping for something else. Really good quality ingredients and all cooked fresh to order. Only criticism, I'd have liked a full field mushroom and not just a half even though they were big. Good friendly service. Then into he shop to buy some delicious quiche and cakes!

We are very fussy foodies and are thrilled to have found Robineau. We live in Scotland and our family are in Yorkshire and we now happily add half an hour to our travel time just to go for coffee and cake at Robineau. The cakes are not over-sweet or sickly, but pack the most amazing punch in combination of flavours and textures. The famous Bettys of Yorkshire seems very old-fashioned with over sweet cakes in comparison. Cannot recommend highly enough. This is the first establishment that has made me feel strongly enough to write a review.

A wonderful ambience prevails in this small but quality establishment. It's been a while since I was in there and the whole of the premises has been tastefully decorated throughout. The three of us enjoyed a tasty late breakfast, beautifully prepared and quickly served by pleasant staff. The cafe was almost full. It made no difference to the service and whilst our meal was simple fare, service was polite and efficient too. Would definitely recommend. The shop at the front, sells amazing confectionery and this is displayed beautifully. It's a proper, classy, quality place to shop and/or eat. Fabulous!

Living locally we have heard many opinions of this place both good and bad but had never visited ourselves. The 3 course Christmas lunch looked enticing so we booked a table. On arrival we were kept waiting quite a while before someone from the cafe side had time to show us to our table, we weren't happy with the position of the table sticking out on a corner so asked for a different table - there were 5 others empty but we were told no! they were too busy! We sat for a while but decided we could not enjoy a 3 course meal in such an uncomfortable place so decided we would leave if we couldn't get a different table, we made another request and after disappearing to consult we were eventually allowed to move. All of this left us feeling very awkward but we tried to make the best of it and enjoy our Festive treat. The food was very good though the portions were disproportionate , pate starter was huge but the scallops and black pudding starter was tiny. Both mains were small. We then waited nearly half an hour for our pudding, we asked if there was a problem and were first told the chef had a problem and orders were backed up, then afterwards that the kitchen was very busy and it was very stressful for the chef. Pudding arrived, it was very nice but the long wait had taken all the pleasure out of our treat.Sadly we feel that this would be a great place for a coffee and snack but due to the small awkward shape of the cafe with tables squeezed into inappropriate corners this is not the place to come and enjoy a 3 course meal

We had a wonderful time on such a very special evening. The way we were greeted, looked after and seated was amazing. The food well what can we say of all the 5 courses, we enjoyed them all so much and it is truly the best meal we have had in a very long time. The theme of the meal was kept all the way along and the food sometimes truly appeared like works of art, too stunning to eat however once one bite was taken, too hard to leave any of it. We enjoyed the Christmas Cosmopolitan cocktail and also a wonderful bottle of wine. The service we received was excellent and we loved every minute of it. We cannot wait until they host another evening meal.

Local for me. Really nice soup served with granary bread. Reasonably priced at £4.50 and available to take home. Menu has a good choice of sandwiches, omelettes, meals and christmas lunches. Looking forward to going again.

Just left this beautiful gem of a find in Cockerton nr Darlington. Visiting the area & having had a disappointing walk around this town we were lucky to stumble across Robineau Pattisserie. Beautiful shop at the front displaying all manor of cakes & savouries. A wonderful display of Christmas gift ideas & behind all this a lovely cafe with tremendously friendly staff who are all too happy to help with your choice of cake! Finding out all these are made on site too made it all the more special. This place is a definite when travelling through Cockerton. We will definately be back & will recommend this lovely cafe to anyone going anywhere near. The cakes are to die for & the staff very welcoming.

Went for afternoon tea 23 Sept 16. Not our first visit and have highly rated this cafe before. This time it was busy as usual, we had a reservation. Service not as good as it has been. Got seated after a while. Tea came and sandwiches were to come "soon". Waited a long time before they showed, tea was about gone and a lot cooler. Same with the cakes, long wait and cafe not busy at all by this time. My wife takes photo's of food/drink and in comparison with previous visits , cakes not as good a selection. Then to be consistent with service, bill took ages to arrive and lots more time to pay. Actually stood at counter waiting to pay an inordinate amount of time as the one employee on the counter took a long order from one customer, other employees just ignored us. Do not know if that was the manager or if they even had one. The waits were that long I mused it must be government run!

Cakes, tarts breads and drinks all very good. Only criticism was the icing sugar accidentally dusted on the cheese scone which wasn't a good combination.

What a gem this place is. We had a delicious sandwich, gorgeous coffee and a beautiful crafted cake. Yum yum. It is a bit pricey but the quality and service reflects this and is perfect for a treat.

Dear Robineau Cafe. I do not usually write bad reviews, but due to the extreme disappointment that I have experienced yesterday I've decided to share how I feel with you. I have visited you cafe on many occasions in the past due to the high quality of food and because its usually really lovely and tasty. As my mother loves your cafe, I have decided to invite her (for her birthday) and my family to have a dinner at your cafe, we drove all the way from Hexham because I truly believe it was worth it. A day before I checked your menu online (on your website and your facebook), I also noted that you are open till 5pm. I am not usually keen to eat before 4pm-5pm however I've decided to make an exception because once again I thought it would be worth it. Imagine my surprise when I have learnt that after getting to cafe at 3:45pm all we can have are sandwiches!! No risotto, no burgers, no soups just regular sandwiches. Birthday sandwiches did not sound appealing to me needless to say to my mum. I was truly upset, because we drove miles just to find out that we can have sandwiches!!! Furthermore, there is no clear info on your website that would indicate that you serve dinners/lunches only till 3:30pm. I won't come back to your cafe, I rarely travel so far to have a dinner, and after such a disappointment I definitely won't do it again. Best wishesAgnes

I was last here a year ago when it had just been taking over. I had a curry, it was really good, couldn't fault it. The owner, Gina, is really nice she couldn't do enough. Recommended

Definitely the best Cafe in Darlington without a doubt, the menu choice, the food, the service is excellent top marks. I have been coming to this cafe for over a year now. This cafe should continue with same staff, service, menu choices and food. Best In Darlington by far. It would be an injustice and a tragedy if it was to close or change.

My recent visit to left much to be desired. While the oat flat white was good, the sandwich mix-up was a letdown. I received a cheaper sandwich instead of the one I ordered and paid for, and the staff's lack of friendliness added to the disappointment. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I couldn't address the issue immediately. Hopefully, improvements in service and accuracy can enhance the overall customer experience at the shop.
