Had a really lovely time here. Went out for a birthday dinner and I’m glad I chose robata to surprise my friend. Food was delicious and sushi portion sizes are great for soho! Cocktails were also amazing. Bonus was the attentive and fast service. Would defo come here again (and hopefully soon).

Had a great experience here. Came for dinner with a small group, we were sat immediately (we did book) and the staff were pretty quick & attentive. Food was all delicious and reasonably priced as well as well priced wine and a good selection of cocktails! Food was delicious, well presented and served at a good speed. Warning the spicy margarita is delicious but definitely spicy!

Robata was an excellent dinner choice. We had the tasting menu and it was generally very well balanced and flavoursome in terms of selection of sushi/meat/vegetarian sharing plates, and also well paced with not all dishes coming at once. We also had the sake flight of three sake glasses, which came with a short explanation of the different sakes and tasted great. Small points to work on would be that the two-seater tables were placed so close together that even a skinny person struggled to pass between, the beef tataki was chewy suggesting not great quality of cut, dessert choice was limited (mochi only) and the wait staff were very hard to get hold of. On the whole a great evening out, good ambience and decent value for money.

Shame as I saw some good reviews before trying this place out... place is fairly dark and bland, and it lacks a bit of character. Service was poor apart from a lady called Aditi. Food was okay, prawn and California sushi rolls were good, Chilli corriander squid looked nice but too chewy. Skewers (we tried them all) were awful, no flavour/taste, and luke warm).

The food here was very tasty, but it was very pricey. We did the lunch set menu for £60 per person, which creeped up quickly when you add £13 cocktails. We enjoyed everything we ate, but I’m not sure it was worth the price point. The sashimi was really good and they had awesome sauces with the kaarage and squid. Our mains were delicious too, I had the cod and my buddy got the chicken.

I reserved a table at Robata hoping for an intimate and quiet dining experience. The food was fine if anything a little expensive for what it was. And I would say not a good example of an authentic Japanese. My issues lie with the service. Having worked as a waiter I was disappointed as the server was overbearing and not receptive to the table’s discomfort. Besides being overly familiar, he rushed our order. Upon requesting more time to deliberate he insisted and stood over my shoulder until we had come to a decision which I did not enjoy. Also offering uninvited opinions like “the karaage is s***… like eating kfc.” There were further issues like wiping and sanitising our table after our meal, but before we had left; reprimanding other servers for assisting in other sections or not saying “backs” as they passed behind him (which wouldn’t be appropriate with the restaurant’s layout and was in view and earshot of customers); and suggesting I “down” the remainder of my drink that wouldn’t fit in the glass he poured into. Additionally, our table was close to the grill but also to where the servers gather when tables do not need assistance. It’s also where some servers seemed to charge their phones which were not on silent so were ping-ing throughout the meal. I enjoy a discussion with my server and appreciate that some people may love this interaction but the conduct here made me uncomfortable for much of the meal and has left a sour taste to the experience. At this price point I would expect servers to be more receptive to a customer’s discomfort which was not the case in this evening Considering this I wouldn’t recommend eating here nor would I return.

Came here with a friend previously and loved it so much that when myself and my family were travelling down to London from Scotland to celebrate 3 birthdays I insisted that we return. Booked our table of 8 two months in advance. On arriving the waiter showed us to a canteen style table that clearly was too small for 8, he then stated that he had reserved the same table behind it incase we wanted two, (to me this shows that the staff were aware that one table was obviously too small for our size of group). However we weren’t keen to split as we were celebrating (also the style of food is sharing plates) so asked if we could instead get two chairs on the end. The waiter then made it seem like we were being difficult and stated that he was not willing to do this. On pleading with the waiter to try give us a solution, I mentioned that we had booked this in advanced and nobody had mentioned two table or anything to suggest our group size was an issue, he interrupted to state that it was him that took the booking (as if this was something to boast about). If we had any other option we would have left as this point but it was a Friday night at 8pm and our size of group would have had no chance. Finally they agreed to put one chair on the end but still that left one side of the table unable to move their elbows. My dad spoke to the staff again to see if there was anything that could be done (by this point they had various tables free around the restaurant but none together. We asked if they could try to find an arrangement but by this point they had just given up. The manager never once came to our table, he never even came to our half of the restaurant most likely avoiding us it seemed, which I thought was quite unfair to his waiters. Overall the food was as good as I remembered but the entire experience was ruined by poor management- my belief is they wanted us all to squeeze on one tiny table so that they could fill up the rest of the restaurant and make more money. Unfortunately we won’t be back as the service was just awful and they made us feel like we were being awkward.

I'm sorry, the previous review is wrong. We have a Japanese son-in-law and we know Japanese food well. Yes, the food is perhaps a little on the salty side but, that apart, we have had a very good, imaginative, beautifully presented meal. Moreover, how many restaurants, when you pre-advise one garlic-allergic diner, greet you with a ready marked-up menu showing which dishes to avoid? And there were very few, in fact, which is a good indication of genuine Japanese food, which seldom contains garlic at all. Service was also attentive and very kind. We'll be back!

Pre theatre dinner. Great stop, £150 for 4 people including one alcoholic drink each. Kimchi rice bowl, great option, super cheap (£9) and a big portion. The different skewers cater for every palette and flavour, the beef fillet and belly pork were excellent. Kimchi dumplings were good, smoky flavour and not very much of kimchi but still good. Spicy tuna roll was exceptional, an absolute bargain as well. Huge portion, good quality and like the rest was easy to share amongst friends. Karage chicken was great and should be a lock for your visit like the rice bowl and the spicy tuna roll. Beef bao was good, not as soft and juicy as I've had elsewhere but still really good and worth ordering if that's what you like.

The service here was very haphazard during our visit. It was difficult to catch the server's attention to order food and drinks. We ordered an extra dish mid way through dinner. It was delivered after 40 minutes. A waiter then came and told us 2 minutes later that we had to vacate the table as there was a time limit. We looked around. There were empty tables and no people waiting outside. We complained and they 'gave' us 10 mins and removed the service charge. This might all have been forgivable, if the food was tasty and of good quality. It was not. The short rib bao buns were appalling. Utterly mediocre and £17 to boot for a couple of flat, tasteless, poorly prepped buns. This venue can't be recommended. There are far better options nearby.

I really wanted to like Robata, we came for dinner and half the dishes on the menu (including cocktails) were unavailable and most of the yakitori we ordered arrived cold. I expected things to be a little overpriced and just wanted to enjoy a nice meal but was quite disappointed. Chicken thigh and pork belly were the best skewers we had but they did feel a bit like a generic store bought sauce for the glaze and the beef fillet skewer was chewy and pretty flavourless, just disappointed as I’ve been really hoping to find some good yakitori in London.

After having a disastrous Uber trip to the restuarant (left my phone and other belongings in the Uber) and missing the reservation by over an hour - Aabhash was the friendly face everyone hopes to meet. Although the kitchen had closed ( I was over an hour late) he allowed me to come in, was so courteous and kind and let me use a phone to call a contact and was doing all he could do to help, easing a very stressed and heightened individual! He also offered me water despite closing up! I’ve always loved the food at Robata, but from my experience with Aabhash today - I will return constantly, simply because of the kindness showed today at great inconvenience to himself. Thank you!

Outstanding food, nice atmosphere, and attentive staff. Only complaint is that they literally give you the cheapest possible wooden takeaway chopsticks… eating a £112 dinner with these cheap chopsticks feels bizarre and almost insulting as a customer. Please please PLEASE change that. Lastly, if you visit, be advised that the food will be served in ORDER. Don’t wait for all the food to arrive. Because table space is limited, they will only bring the next item that you ordered once the table has been cleared. Otherwise, truly amazing food and a stable for me and my boyfriend to celebrate special occasions at.

Came here for a late lunch with 3 friends on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived on time and were told to wait outside as our table was not ready. We got seated nearly 20 mins late, and there was zero acknowledgement of this from the staff. Unfortunately they had taken a booking for 30 people for their bottomless menu - which was about 75% of this intimate restaurant. They were EXTREMELY loud, making it impossible to have a conversation and completely ruined our time. We were told they were leaving at 4, yet at 10 past 4 the staff were bringing yet more bottles of prosecco to them, despite all the other tables being very uncomfortable. The staff were visibly stretched and stressed, but there was no excuse for how rudely we were spoken to when we expressed how unenjoyable our lunch had been. They made no effort to compensate for the awful environment they had accommodated by taking such a large booking. Such a shame as the food was lovely, however we did find a hair in 2 separate dishes. I can see some other reviews regarding the service / attitude of the staff and none of us had ever had such an awful dining experience.

I was looking forward to the black cod to be told that this as well as the chicken was not available. Who doesn’t have chicken?! The food was greasy, tasteless and definitely not authentic Japanese. The restaurant itself was unpleasant, the toilets which are downstairs smelled so bad that you don’t even want to eat after. We were charged 12.5% service charge only reason I went with that was because it was a business meeting because if it wasn’t I would of never paid that. The cook was not Japanese in fact nobody there was which is often an indicator that this is not authentic. The quality of the food was poor and greasy. The only thing I enjoyed was the plum wine sake. I won’t be going back and if you want authentic Japanese don’t go there!

Fantastic food, highly recommend the bao buns! We loved every dish we had - beautiful presentation and amazing flavours. There were a few downsides: - We were frozen, as cold air rushed through every time the door was opened which was a lot - the waiters didn’t explain that all food would arrive when it was ready. We ordered and everything turned up within 5 minutes of ordering, a part from one dish which took a lot longer. It would be great if the staff had explained this as we would have liked to have taken more time before the food arrived. - when we booked it did not flag we only had the table for a certain amount of time, however it felt like the staff were rushing us out as quickly as possible to get the next table in, reminding us we only had half an hour (we didn’t realise we only had the table for 1.5hrs) and bringing over the bill before we had asked for it at the same time 20 minutes before our table needed to be free.

We tried to change the reservation but couldn't get through. Had we all been there, it'd have been uncomfortably tight. - They had run out of 2 out of the 4 starters we ordered. We went for the tasting menu offered at £60pp and I was hoping for more. We were greeted with a bowl of edamame beans and we ordered oolong tea to compliment the meal. It started with the cold platter selection which was 3 types of sashimi (one piece each), california roll (2 pc each) and beef tataki (2 pc each). Delicious but portions were tiny! The hot platter which had the salt and pepper squid, chicken karaage and pork gyozas were the star of the show! It was healthy portions with 3 different dipping sauces. The mains, I was disappointed with. My partner ordered they flamed beef fillet, with a disappointing 5 pieces which on the 'Robata Large' menu goes for £28. I ordered the black cod which was a tiny portion and normally offered at £32. The dish would have made the world of a difference if it came with some rice or noodles. Delicious food but a few added carbs to the mains would have made it 5 stars for me.

You can see the difference between picture 2 &3 and they are the same meal. I ordered the chicken bao 2 weeks ago and it was so so delicious - I wish I had done a review then and I would have given it a SOLID 5 star rating. Today the bao lacked cooking and sauce. I was told by one of the waiters that the owner decided to do “portion control” on the sauce.. which is unfortunate as you can see that we can clearly see the chicken not coated in the sauce in picture 2 and picture 3 (from 2 weeks ago) was just divine. It was also a little watery/undercooked and as a pregant woman I need to be super duper careful with undercooked meats as it’s not safe for baby. It’s unfortunate as I believe Robata has quality food on their menu like the duck salad but sadly I don’t think I’ll be coming back after today’s experience.

We stopped by on a Sunday, 6 of us and an 8 year old child. The place was empty, so we asked to sit on the couch where there was seating for 8 people, but were told that the table was reserved and seated at the table for 6 instead. Food was very tasty, although expensive, and they tried to charge us for 2 plates of fresh fish (£28 per plate) which we did in fact order, but received only one. Throughout our visit no one else came, and the table we requested was empty until after we left. For the price we paid it was definitely not worth it, staff should be taught some manners. Would not recommend.

Food was delicious, & well presented. I had booked a special birthday and asked if we could be close to the action of sushi making and they said no problem, but when we arrived it was given to someone else. One of the gentlemen wait staff had clearly just had a cigarette and then serviced our food which wasn’t the best.

Saw the waitress coughing at the cutlery as she was sorting it out. Toilets were dirty. The food was okay, depending on the dish.

Faultless. We stumbled across this place while wondering through Soho. It is quite simply amazing. The staff are super friendly, knowledgable and attentive. The food is out of this world. We order around five dishes to share and each one exceeded the last. It's kind of like Roka but without the price tag. It's actually very reasonable. If you like this kind of food then you won't be disappointed. Give it go.

I tried it twice. Didn’t want to leave a bad review if I just got unlucky. The food is amazing. Seriously good. The service is just inexplicably bad. They have like 6+ people just sitting around. Even asked the manager for the bill and he just nodded yes and then refused to bring it. Sadly I probably won’t come back.

We actually visited in August but I had forgotten to review. We had the tasting menu. I tried sushi for the first time and liked some of it. The dishes were all lovely. My daughter had the cod main and I had the beef. Off we came again we would just have a variety of small plates. Found the service lacking. Struggled at times to get attention. The chef at the end was awesome to watch in action.

I had the set menu which had a minimum of 2 guests requirement but the host was kind enough to let me order it. Everything tasted good and fresh except the sashimi which looked snd tasted like it’s been sitting for hours. Service was fast and good.

The best part of my lunch was the waiter, he was hilarious, so sarcastic and his facial expressions were just soooo funny. The food was very good. I was out with my team, 60% were guys and damn they ate well, had seconds too. My favourite was the aubergine though, that was outstanding. Black cod was good too. Would go again, but only if I'm not paying.

Really enjoyed the bottomless brunch here. The dishes were delicious, and the prosecco was kept topped up. The staff were welcoming, and the service was overall great. There wasn't much of an atmosphere, but honestly, I didn't need one. A welcome change to be able to hear the person across the table from you. Would definitely visit again

The food was very good. However the service and attitude of staff (in particular manager) was subject to improvement. Be warned that the staff are very precise with their booking times. We arrived on time and were seated. Allocated 1hr 30 to order, eat and leave. About an hour into the meal, the manager informed us he had another booking for our table and we needed to hurry up with our eating. At this point, our main course was yet to arrive at the table but we were still being hurried along, the manager suggested when it did arrived we could use takeaway boxes to eat it elsewhere. When the food did arrive, we again were hurried by the manager. I don’t think i’ve ever been to a restaurant where they are keen for you to leave without eating. The beef tataki and steak were delicious. Waiters were very pleasant and friendly but the manager was rude and lacked customer service skills. overall good food, very bad service

The food was awesome to my suprise. We had some bao, fried prawn sushi, pork skewers, chicken karaage, truffle fries. The staff was nice and helped a lot. There were some people, but we didn't wait long at all. The only unpleasant experience was the loud music. Maybe it was only my sensible ears, but the music made it hard to understand each other and so everyone talked really loud.

I recently had an incredible time at ROBOTA. The service was top-notch, and the staff made me feel really welcome. The food was absolutely delicious! The sweet edamame was a real treat - it had this amazing sweetness that I couldn't get enough of. And the pork belly skewer was so tender and flavorful. They had a great selection of sake, and the staff helped me find the perfect one to go with my meal. It added a nice touch to the overall experience. The sushi was fresh and beautifully made. The chefs really know what they're doing. The restaurant had a cool and modern vibe, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. If you're looking for an amazing dining experience in London, I highly recommend ROBOTA.

Overpriced fancy looking food, that didn't feel authentic. Small portion and overseasoned. Regret going there completely. A pretty souless place, for trouists and people who don't know what they are paying for. Spent 60 something per head, not recommend.

OK, now THIS is how All Atari-yas should be! Top notch quality fresh fish and great service!! Chef Mike knows what he is doing and the hostess was so accommodating. 25% off Monday is a great deal! Snow crab, full and medium fatty tuna, Japanese scallops, proper yellowtail all done so well!

Tried Saki for the first time and sadly was disappointed. Food was good but the table they use for take away orders is right at the front of the restaurant next to other tables and so we spent the entire evening having what felt like an endless stream of motorcycle delivery drivers stood right next to us collecting food orders. The table next to us was piled high with take away boxes and insulated food bags. They need to change it around or do what other places in Crouch End do and make the drivers wait outside and show their delivery number so the restaurant isn’t overrun by delivery drivers. We were the only people in the restaurant at one point and I struggled to get anyone’s attention as they seemed too busy attending to take away orders and making up take away condiments. A shame as the food was nice.

I am returning happy client for 7+ years, my previous visit was terrible . The tasting menu shrunk by half , and price up 30%?? Sashimi not as good as usual, the chef totally miscalculated the wasabi , was almost inedible for some of us. Service was excellent, the only standard that remained the same. All in all, felt like an absolute rip off, poor value for money. Won’t be returning.

The food is good and fresh, very good value for money. The rice is not "tight" enough and the sushi/makis fall apart when they touch 3 drops of soy sauce There is plenty of room to sit The atmosphere and staff could be warmer
