Riverside Takeaway in West Dorset

What a gem! We stayed from 5-12 Aug- 4 adults and 2 children ages 7 and 10. The cottage is next to the river Frome- we saw Swans, a heron, water voles, ducks, moorhens, butterflies and bats! Great for us townies! The cottage , although old in exterior, is full of mod cons in interior. It should be noted that we stayed in the ‘heatwave’ and the cottage was so cool! The kitchen is fab, so well equipped- chefs would have a field day! The little patio outside has a charcoal bbq and extra chairs/loungers- this leads to a narrow riverside garden. The lounge is so comfortable, with a smart tv - Netflix etc… upstairs, 3 bedrooms, a smaller truckle bedroom ( 2 single beds, if required) a double bedroom and a fab king size bedroom with a compact en suite. Also upstairs is the family bathroom with free standing bath and separate shower. The Welcome pack was the best ever… Prosecco, milk, bread, chutney, butter, sweets for the kiddlies, chew for our Cava-Jack terrier. It was well equipped with toilet rolls, dishwasher tabs, washing machine tabs, fairy liquid and hand wash- never known this before! This is mainly down to Clare, the next door housekeeper, who is friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. The local chip shop ( 2 doors up) is open on a Thurs/Fri snd the pub, the Chalk and Cheese is a very “locals” pub, serving ‘pub grub’ we were made welcome one night when we enjoyed a meal There is a lovely park next to the Village hall/ cemetery, that our grandkids loved. Would recommend trips to corfe castle on the steam train from Swanage, Lyme Regis and Mudeford. A fab week.would definitely recommend this holiday home.

We called ahead to check the opening times and were told they’d close around 8pm. Perfect, we were tired from a long drive down and were looking for a decent but quick meal. When I placed our order for just 2 people there was a lot of huffing and puffing with a statement that our order was “a logistical nightmare!” *Confused* The food was not anything to rate well I’m afraid. The chips tasted old/oil sodden and the chicken was over cooked and dried out.

This is the best fish and chips we have had in years! Cooked fresh while we were waiting. Top quality fish. If anywhere in the area again we’d definitely go again.

Well went 2 weeks early and really enjoyed the food on offer. So thought I would try again before leaving a review. Second time around food was even better. During covid telephone order over first. Highly recommend you won't be disappointed. Shame about opening hours/days wish was open more often but understand not the busiest of routes for passing trade.

Enjoyed our meal here. Haddock superb. Only scored four and not five as my wife thought the chips were just ok.

We are regular customer here, we always get excellent and generous portions, yummy! Good choice of fish, meats, pies and curries with freshly cooked chips.

On holiday in the village and decided to give the local chippy a go. Chips were average, not the worse but no where near the nicest. Cod was nice, just the batter was too thin for my liking and fell off when I unwrapped it. Battered sausages were nice.

We stopped here for fish and chips when we passed through the village. Freshly cooked and very tasty piping hot as well a really nicely cooked. very Good

We had two meals for here while staying in the village, both times a variety of items ordered and all good. I had the fish and chips both times which were excellent. just a shame he didn't open on Saturdays as well

We had two takeaways from here whilst on holiday last week the food was what you would expect from a fish and chip shop tasty fish and nice pies the chips were very good and large portions which was good.

We are very fortunate to have this little gem in the village. Last minute meal planning, the riverside always comes to the rescue with delicious fish and chips. Best to call in advance to place your order. This takes care of the possible long waits.

Freshly fried glorious crispy batter and generous portions. A really good varied menu and good prices. Always busy so be prepared to wait a while but it's definitely worth it.
