What a gem! We didn’t expect much of a menu because it said ‘Lite Bites’ on the board outside! There was a perfect choice of sandwiches, cakes, soup, ploughman’s, quiche crispy chips and more. We had a crispy goats cheese and roasted vegetable tart with chips and salad and a warm roast beef and onion bap with chips and salad. Both really yummy. That, plus two coffees came to £16. All set in a picturesque village beside the river. (A truly dreadful lunch in St Anne’s reviewed here last week, cost £18 for half the quantity and poor quality) Lovely. Highly recommend

Lovely lunch out with family. I had the Ploughman’s, which was delicious and plentiful! The only downside was that I didn’t have room for a cake and I had my eye on their Bakewell! We will definitely be back - such a wonderful little gem in a beautiful location!

Fantastic bacon butties, other options are available, dozens of them! For such a tiny cafe the choice is amazing and everything we tried was perfect. There is a number of tables outside and on a sunny day the setting in the riverside village is delightful.

Ordered a bacon butty, cup of coffee and a current slice. The coffee was cold, the slice had a long hair in it and the bacon was burnt. My mate and I both left are sandwiches. We were offered another upon complaint but turned it down. At that point I’d lost my appetite

Tearoom was busy on a late Sunday morning, full of cyclists and walkers, we were one of the latter who had walked up from Newton - in - Bowland. Drinks and cakes were good value for money. Seemed to be more seating outside than in. Not sure whether the tearooms were just trading on their location but have been to more welcoming places, however they could have been short staffed and under pressure. Did notice that some of the cakes on the counter were uncovered so decided to go for a wrapped flapjack. Nice view of the bridge and river sat on a bench outside the tearooms.

Called in on my bicycle half way round a 60 mile ride. Gave the waitress my order of a scone with butter and jam and a cup of coffee and told her I was going to sit outside and she said I should wait at the counter as it would be ready in a minute. I paid the £4. The scones were on the counter, uncovered, exposed to everyone’s germs. The waitress picked one for me with her bare hand then changed her mind, put it back and took another one. She manhandled the scone cutting through it with a bread knife before scraping the bottom of a margarine tub for the last few scrapes before repeating the same with a nearly empty jar of jam. She got some jam on her finger and wiped the jammy finger on the inside of my scone. Coffee was poured from glass coffee pot overfilling it and splashing it down the sides, the waitress presented it to me holding the cup from above touching the rim with all five fingers. The coffee has a bitter metallic taste. Had I had an alternative I would have walked away without touching the food without saying anything but as I was in urgent need of coffee and cake and ate it but spent the rest of the ride worried I had been exposed to a nasty virus.

Arrived for late lunch whilst out walking in the area. Tried to order my favourite - cheese & onion pie, but waitress returned to say the pie was still cooking & wouldn’t be ready for a while. So we both ordered the Toad in the Hole - which was on the Specials board at £4.99. We ate our lunch, which was a small portion but ok, then my husband went to pay whilst I went outside. I heard the waitress say it was £17 something, which I knew was incorrect! When challenged the waitress insisted it was correct. I advised it couldn’t be as we had only had a pot of tea and coffee as well as main course. We paid as requested then whilst outside the waitress came out and changed price on specials board to £6.99!!! No customer service skills here!! We have eaten here many times over the years but will think twice about visiting again.

After waiting in a queue for over 5 minutes for a cup of tea, I gave up and left. One staff member seemed to have the sole job of pushing past customers with a bin bag, never once saying "excuse me", while another observed the growing queue from the kitchen but also did nothing to help alleviate it. I suppose you can behave like this when you have a ready supply of tourists at your door. I read that they are open every day except Christmas - they need to be to actually get around to serving their customers.

Went for afternoon tea. You can sit outside or upstairs - which was a problem for the elderly and disabled. There were 2 good things - the quiche was fresh and tasty and the scones were filled with cream and fruit. However, the rest was disappointing. The sandwich filling was good but the bread tasted as if it had been left out or defrosted . The fruit cake looked and tasted very dry indeed. When we asked for more tea, instead of making a fresh pot, the waitress just added more hot water - something we had already done at the table. No rush to go back.

I found a great 10 mile walk around stocks reservoir starting from Slaidburn and with google maps also found where to park as well. Upon arriving I knew that there was either a pub or a tearoom where we could get a bit of breakfast before our walk began. "I wonder where the cafe is" I uttered as I walked out of the car park and onto the front of the cafe. Fabulous. Straight in and two bacon sandwiches and coffee were ordered. They know how to make a bacon sandwich in here (amazingly, some places really make a mess of it) and it was delicious and set us up for the long walk. Lovely home-style hot dishes (mince & veg pie, and fish pie, both with ample new potatoes and various fresh vegetables, all beautifully cooked) served with courtesy and very reasonably priced. Many customers seemed to be going for simple snacks such as bacon barms, and there are also pastries and ice creams on offer, so this cafe can clearly provide for a variety of requirements. I called at the cafe, as a half way point to a 30 mile cycle ride, one Sunday in early January. It was lunch time but I was the only person in the cafe. The second half on my cycle ride was back over the hills to Bentham ( its quite a steep route) so I didn't want a large meal. Just a hot light lunch. My order was a coffee, soup of the day, with a roll, and under the glass counter was a delicious looking purple cheese cake, another cake, and a Quiche. I was so so tempted by the cake, but I'm diabetic, and even though maybe I could have had cake, my blood sugar would have been low from cycling, and maybe I could burn the sugar off with more cycling, I ordered a slice of Quiche. I was then told rather abruptly, by the lady serving on. " we don't sell quiche by the slice, if you want quiche its part of a salad meal" Slightly taken a back by this statement barked at me ( and with an inherent loathing and fear to argue with northern women, plus i was tired from cycling) I just had the Coffee and soup. The question is why couldn't she just have sold me a slice of quiche, and charged it out at the same price as a slice of cake, I wouldn't have quibbled about price.

Upstairs is one of the smallest but cleanest eating places I have been in- has seats for about 16 people I chose a home made quiche with salad and wasn't disappointed - fresh and tasty and not too expensive - less than £10.00 for main course and a coffeeI will certainly be returning

Called in for a cup of tea and a mid-afternoon nibble. My wife had a good Summer Pudding and I had a portion of Queen of Puddings, which I'd never had before. I may never have another one - it was so good that one somewhere else is bound to be a let-down.

A modest-looking establishment, with outdoor tables next to a small road, which had hardly any traffic. They served a good cup of tea, but the real reason for this review is their fruit pie. Absolutely superb, homemade, with lots and lots of fruit. Certainly not baked by a miser.

I have visited slaiburn many times, and this little cafe always intrigues me, it's always busy, we went last Thursday and found it almost empty so we quickly sat at a table and my husband went in to order, just a scone and coffee, all I can say is it was disgusting......the cappacino if that's what they call it was just a frothy Nescafé, and th the scone was inedible, as dry as a bone and came ready buttered (with awful cheap magerine)and some terrible jam that didn't even cover the edges to mask the fact that the scone was about a week past its sell by date, I will NEVER go back there again, also table was stuck up with food, unwashed and our cups and plates were left on table for at least half hour after we left, as we went for walk and same ones were there on our way back

We visited on a sunny afternoon for cups of tea and were drawn to the puddings in the cabinet. Both the blackcurrant pie with cream and the warm apple and rhubarb crumble with custard were ample portions of superb home made treats! Well worth a visit and will be back. Thanks for the experience!

found this delightful little tea shop whilst touring the Trough of Bowland. Situated on the main road through Slaidburn by the village green. There is a large car park with good toilet facilities next door. You'll be spoilt for choice regarding eats etc. Super home made pies, tarts cakes etc., A daily specials board too. Staff very friendly & helpful. Upstairs & outside eating areas. Nice clean & pleasantly decorated. Highly recommended lunch stop!!

I had not been to the cafe in over 10yrs, but will certainly be going back soon. It was a beautiful day, sat outside, quick service, very tasty food. It is a shame upstairs is so small, although not much they can do about that!

Went to the tearooms for the above celebration. There were 15 in the party and the food was excellent piping hot and very tasty. I had lasagne and my husband had meat & veg plate pie, for sweet we had sticky toffee pudding & custard. The pudding rather yummy! The service was excellent the staff both pleasant and very attentive. I would recommend Riverbank Tea Rooms to anyone for I am sure you would be satisfied with the food and service. It was good value for money and the surrounding countryside makes it a lovely place for any occasion.

We stopped here as for something warm to eat and a cuppa while travelling north. The coffee was great and the toasty was perfect. The service was friendly and fast to. Slaidburn is an interesting little village, somewhere between beautiful and spooky. Embracing the tales of witches in the surrounding area there is a bit of an eerie feeling here. But under all that is a charming little village with a lovely tea room. Definitely stop if you're in the area!

the riverbank tearooms has been a favourite haunt for a long time. It isn't the Ritz but offers a unique experience . The space inside the tearooms is limited but the tables outside are always popular with walkers, cyclists and any other visitors - I'm sure a cup of tea tastes better when taken outside with a gorgeous view of the river to admire. Plenty of choice on the menu for such a tiny establishment and its always busy whatever the weather. Ideal venue for those with disabilities as drinks, cakes etc can be taken back to ones own car (ample sized car-park right next to the Tearooms) -trays provided! Prices very reasonable and service efficient, staff very polite. Only disappointment today -sold out of their excellent scones and had custard tart instead -unfortunately it didn't taste as good as it looked. We will return and hopefully the scones will be available again.

Stopped at this quaint little tearoom with my Patner and her son.Have been a few times before and as with all our visits the expirence was most enjoyable, the food was of a very good standard and freshly prepaired and reasonably priced. Popular with walkers as well this is the place to go and enjoy good food and the countryside and sit outside weather permitting.

Sorry Christopher G - this still my favourite cafe in the Bowland area - just love their fruit pies and meat dishes - I also like the new décor - it is what it is - a stop off in a character café in an area of outstanding natural beauty - plain and simple but delicious.

I have been going to the café at Slaidburn in all seasons for over twenty years and have seen proprietors come and go it always used to be the place to stop for a good quality snack in the café downstairs made from a good selection of local produce or a more substantial meal in the quaint dining room upstairs which was small but displaying local artwork and decorated to reflect the area felt warm and inviting making the café as a whole a good place to stop and an asset to the village. However over the last six months or so it has changed the downstairs café now feels cold and unwelcoming, no matter how hard the staff try (and they do) it now could be rivalled by any road side caravan selling tea and sandwiches on my last visit I had a mug of tea complete with tea bag with nowhere to put the tea bag, should I have put it on the floor?. As for the upstairs dining room it now feels ice cold, has no character and since redecoration a cross between a low class chain pub and a dentists waiting room. Will I be calling in on a regular basis in the future NO! I will look in when passing to see if things have improved or the place has shut completely maybe this is the intention ether way the village has lost an asset. If you think I am being a bit harsh just check out the web site for yourself it has been under construction for nearly a year, has not changed and reflects the business.

Had an excellent Christmas meal at Riverbank last week. Good quality ingredients, well cooked and very tasty. Particularly liked the smoked salmon starter. There was a generous portion of succulent turkey with plenty of nice vegetables, not just the carrots and broccoli you seem to get nearly everywhere. Broccoli soup was possibly slightly over salted for our taste, you can always add more but not take it away! Service was good, no-one rushed us, just right for a relaxed 3 course meal. Lovely welcoming coal fire on a cold day was much appreciated. Good value, will be back soon.

My wife and I came across this quaint tea shop quite by chance, as it is on the outskirts of the village and laid back from the road behind a small cobbled forecourt. On entering we found it contained eight tables and quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffees and sandwiches which were made to order and absolutely delicious.I shall definitely return and tell my friends about it.Im not certain of the opening hours,so will need to check before I return.I thoroughly recommend it.

I have been in this restaurant many times and always really enjoyed food and service but not last time. On 5th of November was birthday of my daughter. I thought we could have a good time and good food but… The service was terrible. We have wait to see the waiter around 20 minutes. Then my daughter went to the bar and order the bottle of wine. The menu we talked from the next table. A few minutes later the waitress wearing leggings and t-shirt brought the wine, put on the table and walk away. She didn’t ask if the wine was ok, didn’t open it and said nothing. After we waited another half an hour to be asked what we would like.I have ordered fish pie and my daughter ordered sea bass. What a disappointment? Her sea bass was on dry side with with too much over fried samphire. My fish pie looked and tasted more as chowder. Just bland. In the end we have told staff about our bad experience that evening.

I tried to order a full English breakfast without a few items and they wouldn’t swap me anything and tried charging me a extra 1.50 so I thought man 10er for my breakfast that’s a bit steep . So just got bacon and sausage baton and I got one bacon one sausage for 5.50 and to top it off it was cold and chippy sausage. Joke off a place will not be going again . And there is dogs running around in the kitchen

My family of 6 decided it would be nice to meet up for lunch and chose The Pavilion as our venue. We arrived at 12:30 and there were a couple of tables of people in front of us. It was drizzling with rain and you have to queue outdoors, so not the best start. When it was our turn we were told all the tables for 6 were full. We asked is there a waiting list to which we were told no - you just have to wait or come back. As it was raining we asked when we should come back (as we thought a look around Shackleton would be nice) we were told an hour. So at 1:30 we went back and queue again to be told all the tables for 6 had filled again. So we asked can we get a table for 4 and a table for 2. We queued again and long story short - eventually around 2pm were allowed in the cafe and they put two tables together for us. Drinks order taken - great. Food order taken great (or so we thought). After about 45 minutes we were approached and told the tablet the order was taken on, had not sent it through to the kitchen!!!! Not so great! The order was then taken using good old paper and pen. To be fair we were given a complimentary round of drinks and our order was then prioritised and arrived within a reasonable timescale, given we all had something different to eat. Now on a very positive note the food and presentation was excellent. Good size portions, well cooked and very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Once seated we were looked after by Andrea who quite honestly saved the day, she was very much customer focused and was a people person who wanted to give a good service. This was a complete contrast to the person who was managing the door and table allocation, who was quite abrupt and gave the impression that nothing was their fault and they could do no wrong. In summary, we can highly recommend the food but the system to getting to a table on a wet day just does not work. We all thought the Pavilion needs to rethink their waiting procedures. Invest in Restaurant Pagers and make a name list for tables or at least make a name list (not bothered they dont take actual bookings as I am sure people would let them down) but if you have arrived and are around and about it’s highly likely you really do want a table. Maybe even a tannoy system with a number being called when a table becomes available. I think they are also missing a trick, as if people had pagers or there was a tannoy then customers might go and brows around Shackletons and as a result some people might make spur of the moment purchases too. We also noted there were a number of elderly people queuing who were struggling to stand for such a long time and in the rain. We appreciate it was busy and they can’t control the weather, but with a little more thought and a slight adjustment here and there, our visit could have been be a much better experience.
