River View Chinese Restaurant in The Vale of Glamorgan

Located right on the River Thames, this River View restaurant offers amazing views and a lovely terrace for outdoor dining. We’ve become regulars here, as it’s a true gem in the local community. The food is consistently delicious, and the service is always friendly and to a high standard.

Been meaning to visit for past 5 years. Building internally could do with a bit of a refresh, but it is functional. Food and service are great. Would recommend. Shall hopefully visit again.

We do often dine here, as the food is good with excellent service and is clean. The food was fresh and tasty. Great location by the river, in Wapping with great views over Canary Wharf. Is great that there's an outside seating area that you can dine during the summer.

Nice local gem of a restaurant for local Chinese food in Wapping. Great service & views. A nice treat for one, a couple or a family outing. I look forward to next time when i can sit outside, right by the river!

Where to start. I haven't been here for over a year as the food had slowly gone downhill. However thought I'd give it another chance. Big mistake, went on an evening with family and friends. Ordered a mixture of fish chicken and vegetarian dishes. No one in the restaurant but a 40 minute wait before being asked to order. Food then arrived quickly but was barely edible, all dishes were gloopy and flavourless, plentiful and presented nicely but clearly full of MSG and corn starch. Didn't feel well afterwards. It saddens me to write this as it used to be really good a few years back. Also one of the chefs / order taker was continually smoking on the balcony in between tasks. I hope it gets better but I doubt it very much indeed. The two stars are for the pleasant environment and the friendliness of the staff.

Had a family take away yesterday, can’t fault it! It was so incredibly tasty. Have had several take aways from here, and they’ve all been great. Excellent, would highly recommend it!

Amazing food and such good service. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing, but the staff were so attentive. We did not feel rushed and the food was top quality. Highly recommend.

Beautiful, clean riverside restaurant with delicious food

The waitress is really rude. I wanted to charge my phone due to an emergency but the waitress said I should ask first no matter what. The waitress also said that my friends and I won’t be welcomed here. Really bad hospitality just due to a waitress. The food was not great and fresh too.

We ordered food and when the bill arrived, it was £94 with a service charge. Since we’re students, we politely asked for the service charge to be removed. However, the waiteress became argumentative and started making aggressive hand gestures, which made our dining experience unpleasant. It’s really disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. We definitely won’t be going back there again.

We ordered a takeaway for 3. The portion size was excellent, more than enough of everything. The food was not greasy, it was so tasty, delicious and very reasonably priced. Will definitely go there again.

Beautiful location and great staff.

We had Set Meal B for two people. The meal was delicious and nicely presented; it was very good value for money, as there was more than enough to eat and we had to ask for some takeaway cartons to take the extra food away. The staff were polite, friendly and obliging. The restaurant is pleasant and clean, but it was a little cold when we arrived. However, I would still go again.

Slightly westernised Chinese cuisine, professional hospitality with riverview near Wapping overground Station. About 200 or even more seats always seen big parties taken place. We were there Saturday lunch and weekday evenings, can't believe there is such a tranquility so near st Katherine Dock.

Its a nice riverview place with authentic ambience,and decent service, the food could be improved, vegetable dishes are better than the meat ones. Im not sure if its the quality of the meat or because it was frozen, but it lacks flavour.

I didn’t ask the waitress’ name but she was the most wonderful waitress I have encountered. I work in the service industry myself and honestly she is amazing 10/10. The food was delicious and the service was amazing, loved everything. If the waitress that served us sees this, come to Caravan in King’s Cross and ask for Anna and I will get you a discount on food and drinks. YOU ARE AMAZING! <3

Loved the food but a bit pricey

Attentive staff, great food, lovely decor and of course amazing riverside view right on the Thames.

Food is very bad. They seems to freeze their char siew for a few days. Texture is bad and you can feel that it is not fresh. We ordered oyster sause vege and the oyster sauce was raw and uncooked. Your restaurant did not make chinese food justice. I will not come again and advise everyone not to visit as well.

The best Chinese I’ve had outside of China. Friendly service, reasonable prices, a huge terrace on the river, the Indiana Jones soundtrack on repeat and a massive bowl of mint imperials on the bar. Have the Kung Po prawns. 5⭐️

Food absolutely lovely as nice hot meal. Went with family, they praised the food. Staff seems to be all over the place as too many tables, not enough staff covering. Waited ages for service. Seems to me that more ppl come they can’t deal well compared to few ppl last time I was there. Decor need updating for sure.

Tried to order takeaway two days running. No reply on the phone. Appalling . Tried again to get takeaway four times today still no reply. Absolutely dreadful!!!

Good place to try Chinese foods in London.

The foods are ok, catered more toward British favourites rather than what Chinese would order. It is very spacious. For its price, it is on the lower end of value for the quality of the foods.

The restaurant was chosen based on fond memories of previous visits whilst in Cowbridge a number of years ago. However, on this occasion the meal was an intense disappointment. The food was glutinous and tasteless, one dish ( allegedly beef in black bean sauce) was utterly inedible. Sticking a single pea on a cocktail stick did little to improve presentation, the flavours were beyond redemption. The young waiting staff did their very best to be cheerful and provide a reasonable service, they cannot be held responsible for such a dreadfully poor meal. The establishment is a shadow of its former self and it was embarrassing to take a friend to dinner. Given the quality of the other Cowbridge venues we visited over the weekend ( Penny Farthing, Arboreal and the Yard), River View was simply appalling. That it was almost deserted on a Saturday night was a warning which we foolishly disregarded.

This was a pre Christmas family meal Lovely restaurant in terms of ambience and location The staff were generally friendly The food was not what I expected and I was generally disappointed We love Chinese food and we are used to robust portions The plates were very small and generally lacked flavour The chicken did not taste fresh and reminded me of rinsed pieces thrown back into the pot I love chunky bits of meat in my rice and the special fried rice did not live up to this expectation We also had some pineapple juice - not cheap - and I therefore expected it to be fresh - sadly it was not and appeared to be from a carton My local takeaway beats this any day and they really need to up their game to justify the prices

Best Chinese in Wapping, even better than Chinatown!!

Great Chinese food, great service, the best in Wapping.

Our first visit last night as we couldn’t get into our normal place to eat. We had lovely food everything was very tasty , friendly service but it was very expensive.

Booked for lunch today and had the most unwelcome reception The lady was quite rude with regards to opening the door telling us push push….: The lady who works there is extremely rude the man wasn’t much better When we went to order she didn’t even come outside she stood inside the doorway because it was hot she said ! We had to ask for drinks and after such bad service we was told that we had to eat and that our drinks was part of our meal which is not stated on the menu. I have never been anywhere that I felt so uncomfortable and not welcome. Please avoid this place it’s awful

We have had several takeaway deliveries and enjoyed them. Unfortunately our last takeaway from the Riverside will be our last, we were so disappointed as the whole order was tasteless even the chips were awful, I actually took a covid test as I couldn’t taste what I was eating, my test was negative so sadly it was the food.

Not the cheapest place but quality of food is exceptional. Beautiful setting by the river. Attentive staff. One of my favouritesupdate July22, just has one of the best meals I've ever had 6 stars. Food and service exceptional - top tip you can ask for stuff that's not on the menu, they dont disappoint

We eat here while on holiday, the manager was lovely we had the Buffett style the food was cooked and served fresh , nothing was to much to ask for, whatever extra we would like the manager really looked after us.

Fairly large menu with many options to suit everyone’s preferences. Everything we tried was delicious, but the Cantonese crispy duck was absolutely amazing. Friendly service.

I booked a table for 10 people for Sunday lunch. Everyone really enjoyed the food, so many choices. We had a variety of prawns, chicken in black bean sauce, asparagus in breadcrumbs. An aubergine dish which was delicious, that we ordered another. Egg fried rice was really good and so was the chicken satay. The highlight of lunch was the Lamb sizzling dish. Everyone was impressed! The staff were wonderful, so attentive and helpful with our orders. And of course great river views, so we will definitely be back 😊

This was a great experience. It's an old school London Chinese restaurant. Good service although it took a while to get the bill at the end. The view is really good and I'd love to come back in the summer when you can sit outside. I think it gets the sun at lunch time. The fish tank looks happier then previous reviews mentioned.

The first time I have ever been disappointed by this Chinese and I don’t normally write bad reviews, however I feel this is needed. I ordered my food at 17:30 to ensure that my young kids were fed before their bedtime, I was told that my food would be 1 hour - 1 hour 15 mins. It got to 19:30 and I had to call the Chinese, a lady answered and said “ah sorry, there was a problem in the Chinese” so I wondered why no one had bothered to inform me of this especially after they took my mobile number. The lady said my food won’t be long, so I asked her how long because my children are waiting. The lady told me that she is even delivering the food herself and she will ensure that I receive my food within 40 minutes and at 20:30 We are all still sat here waiting for our food. It’s such a shame and I will not be ordering from here again after tonight!

Ordered from this place for years, just rang up and was told we are too busy to take phone orders, good on them, great business model. I will not be bothering them again!!!

Nice place to get some Chinese food right next to the river. The smoked shredded chicken is really good. Spicy beef in black bean sauce was also good. They also offer complimentary prawn crackers.

Not worth it to be honest, duck was cold felt sick after eating food… place was cold not worth a visit better of at golden well sorry to say plus very expensive for the food they offer

Best Chinese food we have had in a long time. We had crispy shredded chicken, duck in plum sauce and Singapore fried rice and all three dishes were delicious. Would highly recommend

Popped in for a Takeaway yesterday. They do cost a little more than a regular takeaway, but the food was fabulous and well worth the small cost difference. My daughter who is a fussy eater absolutely devoured the Chicken Chow Mein, and the Spicy Chicked with Chilli was lovely too.

Best Chinese food we have had in a long time! Dropped in without calling on a Saturday night and were warmly welcomed. Our waitress was lovely, the food arrived quickly, piping hot and delicious. Very reasonably priced.

Lovely restaurant with beautiful views over the Thames. Staff friendly and polite and food very good but I also agree with the previous comment. Those poor fish are in more or less total darkness, both my friend and I commented on it on arrival. Its cruel please sort that fish tank out. I feel so sorry for those fish.

Traditional Westernised Chinese menu. Delicious food. Excellent service. Reasonable prices. Pleasant locals-only Wapping atmosphere, and a romantic riverfront outdoor terrace which is the perfect place to be on a warm, sunny summer's evening.

Very disappointed with the takeaway we ordered as the food was bland and unappetizing - called up to advise and was dealt with by a very unhelpful man. Would not bother going here again.

The restaurant is lovely, balcony on the Thames when weather permits and really friendly staff. Takeaway never disappoints either.

Fresh food, were very attentive to our nut allergy and made sure to freshly prepare with new oils and pans- they went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend

It was ok untill i got food poisoning i ordered 4 separate dishes and the food came way too early red flag i could taste old oil another red flag the crunchy prawns came soggy i live pretty close avoid !!!

For god sake this is not authentic Chinese food at all... all we called improved cuisine for those who never eat Chinese food at all

Loved this place! The food was delicious. Book in advance and let them know that you want outdoor seating. You will then enjoy the foods with a breathtaking view. Customer service was great.

Such excellent food with lovely outdoor seating beside the river! And really quite affordable for the quality. We are somewhat flexible vegans, so we didn't mind the lack of labelling (but that would be an improvement to provide clarity on the menu). We ordered Crispy Beancurd with Salt & Chili and it was the best tofu we've ever had! Also ordered the Spicy Aubergine (which is not that spicy). It was amazing, melted in your mouth in a sweet and rich sauce that comes with a fantastic special crunchy mushroom. Definitely recommend getting the aubergine with steamed rice to soak up the sauce. This restaurant is a gem!

After having a number of chinese takeaways from local restaurants we had recently opted for other cuisines but tried this one during lockdown and we couldn't be happier. The quality of the food was superb, the staff are very polite and the delievery time has been near enough spot on every time. Would recommend to anyone.

I was very impressed with their social distancing measures with contactless payment, mask/gloves on all staff members in sight and limited pick up area - something i think is important to mention during this 'new normal'! Ordered delivery for red Thai curry &amp; satay mixed veg. 40mm shard of metal found in one of the dishes. Still awaiting refund

I would’ve given 5 stars as the bulk of our order was excellent as was the phone ordering & delivery services BUT the chicken green Thai curry was inedible-the chicken looked barely cooked and the sauce was barely green, the consistency of water with a film of oil floating on top. Also all the takeaway containers were covered in grease. It was our first meal from here and we’ll have to think long and hard before ordering again.

Ordered via Deliveroo today and was very disappointed. There was a hair in the chow mein, egg fried rice tasted extremely off and old, and the sesame prawn toast was stale. Wont be ordering again.
