Chance guided us here and we ate really well! The soup was amazing Mushrooms with fresh taste were excellent And the fish and chips were very good. The service was fast and the servers were polite.

I had been traveling and arrived in Inverness feeling hungry. I came upon the River Grill after crossing the footbridge into town and I wasn’t sure if I’d find something that sounded good. I decided to try it, and WOW it was amazing! I ordered the sizzling chicken with basmati rice and a salad (£18). It was a plentiful portion of tender, flavorful chicken cooked with peppers and onions in a light sauce. It was like the fajitas where I’m from (Southwest US), but with different seasoning. You know the cast iron plate that fajitas are cooked on? That’s what I had and they came out sizzling. The rice was perfection! And the salad was crisp and fresh. I can honestly say I enjoyed this meal more than many others I’ve eaten on this trip to Scotland, and I like all foods but get tired of deep fried food, burgers, etc. I felt like something not too processed or bread heavy, and with some kind of fruit or veggie and this sizzling chicken definitely fit the bill. The service was quick, but there was only one other table with patrons. My food was delicious and cooked well. I’m surprised at the negative reviews, so I decided to write my positive one (which I rarely do, because who has time for that?!). Usually it is the unhappy person who writes the review. Oh well! If you eat at River Grill, try the sizzling chicken! I can’t speak to any other menu item, but this one was a winner and I would 100% eat there again.

The coffee was clearly on the counter but I didn’t bring it. He said there was only one waiter and he wanted to come one by one. Turn around and go back to do other unimportant things first If you bring me coffee again and say a few more words, you might be choking me. I don’t know if it’s discrimination or not.

I should have read the reviews first. Asked for water. Received 2 £3.20 waters instead of tap water. Ordered spaghetti. It was literally cut up spaghetti with ragu and sugar. Men's toilet is broken. Sink needs to be caulked. Male waiter would only address me and not my wife. Her pasta was loaded in butter and tasted frozen. Place was empty. Another clue. Would not recommend.

Food was great and excellent service - a hidden gem on our last night in Inverness! We also enjoyed beautiful views of the river and bridge while we ate.

We are here after a long day on a guided tour bus. It was 8pm and this was the first restaurant we came across that wasn’t full up with reservations. We were tired and just ready to get back to our hotel. We were seated immediately. Staff was nice but had trouble speaking English and couldn’t answer our questions - we asked what beers were on draft/pour and were given bottles. The food was reasonably priced and came out quickly. If you’re an American, the lasagna will be familiar — too cheesy. The fries/chips are American standards (not good). The Penne con Pollo had a decent sauce but the mushrooms were rubbery & the chicken had no seasoning or grill marks. Did it get the job done when we were tired? Yes. Would we recommend this restaurant? Maybe only if you were tired and didn’t have a reservation somewhere (rookie American mistake on our part). Would we eat here again? No.

It looks like they are trying but somehow it's just bad. Had sandwich and soup. Pretty sure it was canned soup, sandwich was ok. Coke did not taste like coke at all.

We ate salad, pizza and pasta. The three of us ended up quite dissatisfied with the quality of the food. In my personal case I ate the ugliest pizza of my entire life. A sandwich at Tesco would have been better.

The waitress was very nice and tried hard, but that couldn't make up for the absolutely inedible food. The penne with veggies was overcooked, the sauce was sweet and there were a few small pieces of vegetables. We paid £46 for two bad dishes - totally overpriced! The highlight was when an employee carried a huge garbage bag across the restaurant during the meal.

To be honest, I will say that I was a little skeptical before entering the restaurant, but I said give it a shot. All I ordered were two pizzas and all I can say is that both were very very good and also the aspect was very nice. I've seen some bad reviews but my experience was the complete opposite. Also the workers were nice and wanted to help as always. So about the food I can only talk about the pizza, and it was really good, and the atmosphere was also peaceful and pleasant!

Just arrived in the centre of Inverness so.thought to get a bite to eat. We came across this place which looked great and was in a nice location. Overall the food was great, the service was really good until me and my partner went to pay. We offered a tip ontop of an already healthy bill, so we offered to pay £50, the lady looked at the receipt and said no can you pay £55. I mean come on We already spent money here, paid a small tip as we rounded the bill up then the woman had the cheek to demand £55 so she gets a bigger tip. That is in my eyes poor customer service 😢

The food was very tasteless - Pizza Margeritha was swimming in fat, fish and chips weren't good either. Fries not crispy.

This has got to be the worst cafe in Inverness and that's coming from someone who has tried different eateries in Inverness. Everything about the place literally deserved a zero rating, sadly, there no option to rate it zero. The calamari was from 1990, you couldn't cut it. The chicken......well, was it even chicken. The salad was a few weeks old and the lamb shish was disgusting. Please trust the reviews, the place is awful. Why it's still open, is beyond me. Please go to McDonald's instead of this place, if you have to eat here, make sure the food is free.

Awful don't recommend it, never had such a terrible meal, the pizza came from the microwave. If you wanted to choose the toppings yourself, it cost 26 euros and it was not listed. Bad service, they couldn't understand anything, they got the food wrong and walked out straight away.

Over $10usd for 3 small stringy pieces of calamari. We saw the portion size and quality of the appetizers and left before ordering entrees. Not the fault of the server, but the prices were crazy for the quality.

Very nice restaurant with good service and nice personal. We were seated immedeatly after we walked in. The lamb shish is a 5 star dish and a must have here. My only "problem", the rice was a bit dry. All in all a good place to have lunch

This place is not welcoming. They advertise they offer coffee and tea, but when you go in and only order that. They make your experience very unpleasant. They weren't busy and didn't have ppl waiting to be seated. But the owner definitely wanted us gone. The sooner, the better. He came up to us multiple times to see if we were done, trying to rush us. Won't be going back or recommending this place.

The worst hamburger I've ever eaten and paid hell for it. My wife took one bite and stopped, I forced myself to eat for some reason. The only right way would have been to state the situation to the staff right away, that such a scam does not pay and walked away.

Owner of the restaurant was extremely rude when I simply asked a question in a polite manner. He responded by telling me to leave the establishment. Never have I experienced this before. Such poor service it is beyond shocking. Please avoid this place at all cost.

The cola didn't taste like cola, probably the glasses weren't washed properly. Food had hardly any taste. I have had stomach pains and digestive problems since visiting there. Toilets were unclean. The wooden board on which the pizza was served didn't seem that hygienic either.

Don’t let looks deceive you. The food is great and service is excellent. My wife had the bolognese and I had the lamb meatballs. Both were amazing.

Saw a lot of bad reviews, but we had a fine meal. Simple foods like pizza and lasagna were fine and the service was great.

It was ok, the penne pollo was a bit tasteless, the cheesecake for dessert was still frozen. In the end I had the feeling that I should leave again as quickly as possible. It's a shame, the location on the river is actually quite good.

Very busy on a Saturday afternoon with tourists, locals, and sightseeing. Movements are determined and directed to getting in or out. This little place is extremely good for food and conversation.

Food was ok but manner of maitre’d was appalling, very off hand to the point of rudeness, no interaction at all, seemed to be annoyed as one of us didn’t order coffee with our meal, coffee was terrible anyway my partner says, won’t be returning.

Hamburgers are terribly bad. Place is expensive. Ordered deserts, among them a Ferrero Rocher cheesecake and a strawberry cheesecake. Pictures showed a Ferrero rocher and strawberries. We got neither cheesecake nor Ferrero rochers nor strawberries. We then complained, and it got worse: “oh you were confused by the picture? We use it to make it appealing but we buy desserts from somewhere else”. Basically sell one thing with one photo and description, and then serve a completely different thing.

Dont go in worst food ive had in a long time im pretty sure it was a microwave rustlers burger they served me on a damp chopping board covered in cuts not very hygienic. My partner had the soup and sandwich horrible looking chicken soup with curdled cream and just cheapest of white supermarket bread basic egg sandwich horrible. Dont waste your money. Place not very clean either

Upon being seated and reading the menu it said to notify your server of any allergies. When the waiter came I asked what options they had. He said none and told me to leave and go up the road to Another restaurant because they had nothing for me there. That was my first experience in Inverness. Wow!

We saw the "Open all day" sign in front of the door so we entered and asked for a coffee. It was around 11:30 am. The staff (or owner?) behind the bar was on the phone and said "Not yet" and shoved us away with his hand like we are not welcome at all. So nice of the first impression...

I assume there’s a reason this place only has a 2.2 in the ratings, in fact it should probably be a zero. We went in, the attendant aggressively asked what we wanted, we said coffee and… he didn’t let me finish and basically threw me out of the place! He said, “it’s eating time… no coffee.” I feel sorry for any staff that works there, they are probably treated like trash, if that’s how you treat patrons. Too bad Inverness… one bad apple hopefully will not spoil the whole bunch.

Guy who sat us down seemed okay at first until he took our order and told me that the set meal would be too much for me and refused to let me order it. Then my husband tried to order the “create your own pizza” where he only wanted to add Halloumi on top of it and he said they’re understaffed and that’s too much work????? And then refused to put in that order as well. He then proceeded to complain about all the tourist keeping the business afloat. We understand that sometimes establishments can be understaffed and we are more than willing to be flexible but the way this guy was treating us was just rude and overall the experience was very unpleasant.

Been several times during my stay. Super nice people and very hospitable. The coffee is delicious and hot! The food is also tasty.

I've never experienced anything like this. Approached at the door while studying the map. When asked, it was confirmed that the desired drink (Guinness) was available. As soon as we arrived at the place, something was poured into glasses like crazy. It takes time so order food in the meantime. Then only one drink was brought and the second one was a long time coming. After about 5 minutes the second drink came. Nothing came of the joy of finally being able to toast and enjoy the desired drink after a strenuous day. It wasn't Guinness and I say the drink was bad. We then left after a short discussion because the error was not recognized. Very strange approach. This approach is not customer-friendly or customer-winning.

We ordered Cappuccino and a cafe. Both were disgusting. The cappuccino smelled strange and the cafe was purely water. We complained and then we were kicked out. One star, because we did not have to pay…

Would give less if I could! Served heated up packet naan thing as homemade gluten free bread! Finally found out after asking 4 times, it was not gluten free! Left almost in tears with a very sore stomach and a screaming toddler who I wouldn't let eat the grey smelly burger they served. The place needs closed down, they are going to kill soneone!

Think this place could do with reporting for health violations! Saw it when we were walking around and thought we'd go for food later, looked on the menu and sounded alright. Then the trouble started. Staff are timid and not very friendly, got seated and they are already asking if we know what we'd order. I said we know starters and drinks but not mains yet, they took our drink order and just walked off! Then we saw one of them at the bar picking his nose have a right good dig and turned back to us like we couldn't see what he was doing and went into the kitchen sneezing and coughing. They then brought drinks over by holding the rim of the glass, made me feel sickened if they do this for others! They went into the kitchen again coughing and sneezing loudly, came back with crisps for themself and ate at the bar. Licked their fingers and were touching more behind the bar! Never saw any of them wash their hands once and staff were rude when we said we'd be leaving as certainly weren't going to eat anything these people went anywhere near. Absolutely sickening experience.

If there were negative stars, this would be the review for it. The bar tender/barista/server/host was being grossly overworked with a nearly full dining rm & his supposed co-worker seemed to be berating him. The co-worker finally came to our table & was probably the rudest service industry person ever, saying how he had a large party coming in & he couldn't make any of our 3 coffees in under 20 to 30 minutes as well as being not willing to provide a hot chocolate with an espresso on the side so we could concoct our own mocha. "We don't do that here." We settle for 2 takeaway coffees & it was the worst cappuccino I've ever had. I would've gone back for some sugar, but it was good enough to get away from there. This was on Christmas day & as we left the rude co-worker, an older man wished us a Merry Christmas, which was the only nice thing there. We have had the most pleasant experiences with every place we've been to in Inverness while on vacation from the US, with the exception of this place.

Me and my family were greeted by polite staff. After ordering food came quite soon, but unfortunately we were quite dissapointed. My child quite enjoyed tuna pizza but chicken nuggets weren't good at all. Sadly the pasta with prawns wasn't good either. Place has potential and I'm sure they could offer some good food but sadly it was dissapointing experience for us, and not cheap either.

I agree with the poor quality of food. Grilled sea bass. (£23) was not grilled at all and smelled bit fishy. The pizza was mediocre. As nice/friendly as the boss is, I'm sorry the food is absolutely not worth the expensive prices....

It was the worst pizza of my life. The dough, filling and even cheese are inedible. Shoes stuck to the floors, and hands to the tablecloth, which had stains of ketchup and something else. It's a shame I didn't take a photo of this. It's important to note that the drinks were okay.

Never been to a more vile place in whole of UK. The waiters were absolutely disgusting. They behaved rudely with people. Didn't know name of dishes. Didn't know difference of red and rose wine. Were rude as hell. Food was bland. Worst mistake going into it. Little tip to the owners: Train your damn staff and hire actual hospitality people and not put your whole family on the service line who have no business waiting tables.

Die Kellner waren total unfreundlich, wollten einen schon fast nicht bedienen, wenn man nur Getränke bestellt hat. Sagten es gibt keine Sahne, dabei lag sie in der Auslage der Kuchen. Die Kellner wirkten gelangweilt und genervt, schwänzelten die ganze Zeit an den Tischen vorbei. Der Cappuccino hatte eine mini Schaumschicht, ansonsten war er ok. Haben uns sehr unwohl gefühlt, die Rechnung wurde unaufgefordert gebracht und nicht gefragt, ob wir noch etwas wollten. Nicht zu empfehlen!

We had to choose between Zizzi and River Grill. From the outside the grill looked good and there was a tasty smell in the air. From the inside it is not very clean. The tables and chairs were dirty and doesnt looked very nice. We ordered burger and spanish meatballs, both were really bad for the price of 14.95 burger and 7.95 meatballs. The burger were just frozen patties and a regular cheap burger bun, really disappointing!!!! This was the worst "Restaurant" i have visited so far. Dont know how they can survive there with such bad food!! P.S. should have been already sceptical when saw the whipped cream and a really dry and old cheese cake in the showcase...who is putting such a low cost ingridients in the showcase xD. We didnt finished our food. Also the waiters seems to be very bored and didnt even ask if anything is okay or sth like that....... Dont trust the 5star revisions! Very sad to write a comment like this but i cant find anything good...

I should have checked other reviews before entering. At least they're consistent. If you'd told me the food was microwaved I'd totally believe you. If you make the mistake of eating here for a main meal, hopefully you'll realise your mistake before dessert.

Diesen einen Stern muss ich wegnehmen. Innerlich freuten sie sich auf Gäste. Ständig kommen die Kellner am Tisch gucken... Essen ging sehr flott als hätten sie vorgekocht. Eine Fanta war am Ende eine zitronenlimo. In kurzer Zeit wurde Tisch abgeräumt und kurz drauf kam unaufgefordert die Rechnung! Ein nicht zu empfehlender Laden! Und Grill.... Fragezeichen wo der ist.

Even When you are out of options and have no bookings and been turned away by other restaurants on a rainy night , like we were. Do Not come here. The Burger had two supermarket Patties , bun was water logged from wet lettuce. Chips of course are not hand cut a for £15 which is the same price as others in Inverness. That’s $30 Aust. Wines were the cheapest tasting at standard prices. Disgraceful gouging. If I wanted processed food I should have gone to McD.

If you get turned down at the other restaurants, go to the shop and buy food. It will taste better and be worth your money. Food is bland and way overpriced. Do not eat here!

Asked waiter who obviously didn't want to be there how many chicken wings in an order. He says 6 or 8! (Which) then ask what kind of fish is used in fish fry. He points at the river and says seafood, no clue about anything and didn't even think to ask anyone. We walked out. Was obvious why it was empty at 6 pm! 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Very poor food. Calamari was completely tasteless. The Prawn pasta was almost inedible.. Uk gave I 1 star, because I couldn’t give it a Zero.

Food was good . Unhappy with the service as I was given a faulty chair. I tried to move the chair closer to the table and jammed my fingers between the seat and wooden frame with my weight sitting on my fingers . Screamed out in pain got up and lifted the seat up to discover the seat was not connected to the frame and legs. The faulty chair was removed before you could say ouch! And replaced quickly so I could carry on with my meal. A quick I'm very sorry sir was all I received. There was no concern of how my fingers felt as I was paying the bill.
