I haven't been here for years, and the restaurant hasn't really changed at all but we arrived half hour late for our table and as there wasn't a table available, we stood at the (small) bar drinking until a table became available. The food was very good and very reasonably priced, and the staff are as lovely as ever. Overall had a nice evening here and would recommend.

The one time I visited this place, I didnt really enjoy it. We were placed on a table close to the door, therefore freezing cold every time customers came in. The food was ok, but not enough to make me want to visit again. A one time visit unfortunately.

After visiting Chessington World of adventures we stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. There was a good variety of dishes on the menu and the food and service was fantastic.Couldn't believe the quality and value, Fillet steak for under £15, not a small steak either!! And it was cooked perfectly.Just wish I lived closer as I would be a regular.

Our friends took us here at the weekend, the placed was quite full which is usually a good sign, we were expecting great things from the previous reviews, service I wouldn't fault happy friendly faces, but, then it all went down hill the choice on the special menu was dismal, like stepping back to the 70's and the quality of food was bland and tasteless, we couldn't believe the sad looking sweat trolley, (faulty towers all over again),even pizza express has moved with the times. Nothing to make us want to go back in a hurry!!!!!!

We were celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary with Family. We were given a warm welcome and shown to our table. The Restaurant was packed and that made for a lovely atmosphere. The waiters were extremely humorous, so the interaction was good. The food was superb and plentiful. The wine list was good and the prices were reasonable. We all had the set menu, however there was a very good choice of dishes in each section. There was something there for everyone. We were never rushed or left too long. I noticed the waiters glance over to the table several times to see what stage we had reached. All in all we shall all visit again.

All was cooked to perfection and delicious! We all had desserts and the cheesecake in particular was to die for! We love this place. We lived in Italy for years and Ristorante Sorrento is as close as you'll get to a typical Italian trattoria. Most of the waiters have been there for years and really seem to enjoy their job and the food is excellent. The daily menu is good value and includes a wide choice and there's lots more on the a la carte menu. Eating there is a fun experience as eating out should be. We'll be back, again and again!

This restaurant has been here for years and has always had a relatively good reputation and this was not my first visit.Food was fine and service was fine, however what for me took took the shine off of the evening was the seemingly lets see how much more money we can get out of the customer.Started with the wine, wanted a dry white, but felt waiters were more interested in selling top end bottles, no mention of house wines unless pushed. House wine was around £13 compared to the £28 per bottle the waiter wanted us to take. The house wine was fine. Then came the food, ordered main course and could/did not see where all vegetables etc. were additional cost. Waiter would suggest all different accompaniments with the main dish and not served as part of it to which afterwards you were charged. It may have been my mistake that I did not read the menu correctly, but it did seem that you were being pushed towards more expensive items than was necessary or order a number of items that was over kill..

Went to enjoy a birthday meal with the family , I was so disappointed first there was the same terrible waiter with greased back hair when we ordered the wine he just poured it without letting us taste it first!!!!!. The food was very poor we had cannelloni and it must have been frozen because it had no taste and was cold inside the main course cauliflower overcooked courgettes NOT crispy and the desserts looked terrible so I just had strawberries, and then to top it all they charged 10% for service , an expensive night for really bad food I don't know what has happened to the man who used to run the restaurant but he needs to come back. Such a pleasant ambience, very welcoming, not at all stuffy or formal but nevertheless spotless white linen and full range of silver cutlery and shiny glasses. The waiter service is excellent. Extensive a la carte menu with very reasonable prices and an even more reasonable set dish of the day menu and outstanding Sunday lunch. They cater very well for party groups - gorgeous birthday cakes! Can get a bit noisy if fully booked which they often are at weekends, so go during the week if that is likely to bother you. Outside tables for smokers, very clean toilets. The typically Italian dishes are unsurprisingly outstanding and the dessert trolley is to die for! 10% automatically added to the bill so tipping is taken care of. We have been many times and never had a bad experience. We strongly recommend. Menu available to see on line.

I've lived in this area for many years and always thought that the Sorrento was meant to be a top-notch place to go. So when I finally went yesterday it didn't quite live up to my expectations, it was average and no more.We didn't have starters but the ones that went past didn't look particularly well-presented. The main was OK but not much flavour - I had the sole Sorrento supposedly in brandy sauce and cream, but it tasted like white sauce to me. My husband had the sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly but again not wildly exciting. It was busy in there and the mains arrived fast. I had to wave down a waiter after waiting for 20 minutes to be brought the dessert menu. But there was no menu - a waiter just came and dourly recited the options to me. They were dragged over on a sweet trolley that looked as if it was original from the 70s. None of the desserts were covered in any way, and there was a woman near to us who was coughing her head off most of the time - so I'm not sure if we came away with more than we bargained for.We both had sherry trifle - which was OK but no more than that.A childhood illusion was shattered ...

We have been coming to this restaurants for many, many years and the best way to describe it is 'hit and miss'. With the exception of a few dishes, such as the nodino, this is not authentic Italian food, but an anglicised version. So after years of coming here, we know what is good and what is not. The service is always good, although I don't relish having clashing pots and pans in my ears when it is somebody's birthday.Overall, this is a decent restaurant but there are better. If you make the right choices, you can have a really nice meal.

Absolutely awful! Like something out of Fawlty Towers. I've eaten at many Italian restaurants of varying price ranges and been to the actual town Sorrento in Italy where food is amazing. This restaurant is an embarrassment to Italy! Classic tricolore salad came with dried, packet herbs instead of fresh basil. I was offered gloopy French dressing. No balsamic dressing. The sweet trolley had mouldy, dried up aerosol cream ready to be offered. The puddings weren't authentic Italian. No decent restaurant uses aerosol cream ever and it was like horrific pub food from the 70's circa prawn salad and Black Forest gateau. No one with taste would recommend this restaurant. The service was awful even though my friend and I were the only people apart from a couple in there.

This meal was a surprise for my eldest son and although he enjoyed the evening he and most of us didn't enjoy the food. The starter was good but then downhill. Three of us had calves liver and the mouthful I had was lovely but we all had about 4 pieces the size of a £2 coin covered in onion. Some meals were returned and only a few enjoyed their main meal. I don't like a bad atmosphere so chose not to complain although in hindsight wished I had - as today I've heard from everyone and it wasn't good. I watched as one guest very quietly told the waiter he hadn't enjoyed his meal - the waiter said nothing. The vegetables mainly the potatoes were tasteless. I thought the desert would save the day but they were equally bad - my sister said it was the worst trifle she'd ever tasted. We first went to this restaurant 40 years ago and it used to be brilliant - perhaps the chef was off - whatever the reason the food was unacceptable.

We went for lunch on Sunday and had items off the fixed price menu. The very bland cheese and tomato salad was devoid of taste or flavour. The lamb shank was tender but covered in a tomato based sauce that was served with all the other main courses. The menu does not state it is a base tomato sauce and when we complained the blanket excuse was that the menu does not cover such detail. The result was a most disappointing meal with a take it or leave attitude. None of our party will ever cross the threshold again as other local 'italian' restaurants offer for better quality and service.

We were very impressed with the quality of the food and wine at this unassuming local restaurant. It was like stepping into a genuine Italian village ristorante, unpretentious and welcoming. It does not pretend to be a high end sophisticated diner but a simple homely place in a relaxed setting. Five of us arrived without a booking and were easily accommodated however there were numerous other diners creating a pleasant atmosphere. Most of us chose from the 3 course set menu at £13.95 a head (+ 10% service - typical of Italian coperto or cover charge!) The food was excellent and the portions generous. Particular highlights included Melanzane Ripiene (stuffed aubergine) and Agnello (lamb shank) Desserts were delicious - profiteroles and panna cotta. Wine was also good - Sicillian Merlot - Mandrarossa by the top cooperative Settesoli £16.95. Total cost for 5 (4 set menus and a pasta course 2 bottles of wine and cover charge £105. Thought we would try this out as a family restaurant with our son and local to home. Having just returned from Sorrento this seemed a good time to try!First of all, this is NOT an italian restaurant but a time warp to back 80's and was believed Italian food. Good grief, from the moment i saw the ala cart dining cart ala Fawlty Towers i should have waled out, but we had just ordered.Went for the classic prawn cocktail hopping for something special but what came back was 80's frozen prawns with a couple of ice berg lettuce leafs hacked off and then offered up a few dollops bought out separately on a cart (they love carts) Oh a side of lemon was about as interesting as it got. Disgusting!Id go into more detail but everything else was just as revolting, tired and sad as the first bite. All in all avoid, its just a waste of money, goto Pizza Express for a much better experience, italian food. If your feeling flush foot Little Italy on Frith Stree in Soho, Incredible!

My husband's family swear by this restaurant and I always enjoy a visit here. The food is so reasonably priced I am always quite surprised as there are good (but not as good as this place) restaurants that charge a lot more. This is the sort of restaurant that provides free bread rolls, bread sticks, olives and butter for when you arrive, which I love. The menu has very little pasta or pizza, it mainly consists of meat and fish. I would particularly recommend the scallops in bacon, or the mussels as a starter, and the swordfish, steak medallions or pan fried liver as a main. The dessert trolley is also something to look forward to.This place is a basic Italian restaurant with good authentic food and a great atmosphere. We have enjoyed many meals here to celebrate special occasions with all the family. It would also be a lovely place for a date as the acoustics are quite good, even though the tables are quite close together. If you like authentic Italian restaurants, you have to try this place.

Visited as part of a group of 6 during the Hampton Court Flower: so good we went both the nights that we were in London. It is simple things that make a good restaurant great and this is where Sorrento really excels. A warm greeting from the owner was the sign of great things to come; the rest of the waiting staff were efficient, friendly and great fun. The a'la carte menu offered great choice and the special deal of three course for less than £14 (a bit more at weekends) was astonishing value. Value is no good without quality and again Sorrento delivers. For each course, all the food came out together; hot meals were just that with nice warm plates. The quality was excellent and the portions generous. All in all a fantastic Italian restaurant; go and try it out, you will not be disappointed.

I have been entertaining at this restaurant three or four times a year for over thirty years and can honestly say that I have never experienced a bad meal. I have taken clients for business lunches, staff and partners for office parties, friends for a quiet dinner and family for a Sunday get together. This is very much a family run Italian restaurant having an extensive menu covering all the food one is used to seeing - certainly more than enough to satisfy every taste in Italian cuisine. In my experience the food is freshly prepared and well cooked . The service is friendly and attentive and the value for money is extraordinary, compared with what one can pay elsewhere. The set lunch on a weekday is especially good value. If you expect Michelin style fine dining, then this is not the place for you. If you want somewhere that won't break the bank, that you can confidently invite friends, family (they love children), colleagues and clients and be assured that everyone will be happy, then you have come to the right place. Having just come back from a week in Rome, I would rank this restaurant ahead of almost all the ones I experienced there.

The staff are tremendous: friendly and very attentive. Some of my friends have joked that it reminds them of somewhere Tom and Barbara Good might have eaten. We'd been recommended to this place by younger friends (we're in our 70s) and we can understand why.Warm welcome, very comfortable round table with plenty of room and not too noisy - quite unusual these days and no over-bearing loud music to drown conversation. As other reviewers have mentioned, the set menu is excellent value and had what we thought was a good choice for each course. The aubergine starter and cannelloni were plentiful, tasty and served hot and fresh - no suggestion that they'd been overheated in a microwave.Good range of different meat dishes for the mains served with lovely fresh vegetables and courgettes in batter which were a welcome change. We particularly enjoyed the calves liver and lamb shanks. The only thing lacking was a greater choice of pasta dishes which one of our party would have liked.Choice of traditional Italian sweets from the trolley and freshly made tiramisu completed a great meal.We can thoroughly recommend the house red wine (Merlot variety) which was excellent value at £10 bottle and served at a good room temperature. The little extras like a selection of olives, breadsticks, good bread, and Italian sweets with the good coffee were all supplied free of charge. The visit was completed by attentive service from pleasant, friendly staff who did not pester nor neglect us. Easy, free parking nearby completed an excellent evening. The staff are fantastic with children making them feel special without patronizing as a result have never yet had meal spoilt by out of control children.

Went along to Sorrento's for a meal with my family and we had the set menu which was very good, the only thing I would say is that the staff were hovering around us almost as soon as we got our starters, we asked for them to wait for our main course but no it came along very quickly, they then started to be slower when it came to dessert and we waited a while for the bill. But apart from that it was a good meal I wish they would only Italian music

Sorrento has been open for 28 years and boss Guiseppe does not look a day older! We had yet another wonderful meal - great steak and pasta - in a relaxed atmosphere complete with clanging trays from a happy birthday boy. Some complain the menu does not change but then again neither does the high standard of food and service.

I have been visiting this restaurant for years and it always delivers. The service is excellent and the food is tasty - the sweet trolley is legendary. My only niggle is that I wish they would introduce a few new items onto the set menu to update things as they risk becoming complacent by resting on their laurels.

Not bad! The mains were good, my steak was cooked perfectly and the peppercorn sauce delightful. Plenty of bread and the starter of gnocchi was yummy. My girlfriends crab was ok and fish main was a little under seasoned. Only real complaint was that it was very cold inside.

The restaurant is immaculate. It's clean, bright, well presented with plenty of space. The service is exceptional. Attentive, accurate and courteous service that is lacking in most restaurants these days, makes the difference from a good experience to a great experience. They genuinely care and it shows...thank you and well done. The food is exquisite. Between the four of us we had gnocchi, prawn cocktails, lasagne, fillet steak, dover sole & veal as well as various desserts. Food portions were good, quality spot on and attention to detail is second to none. Negatives...Well, even Gordon Ramsay restaurants can be improved in certain ways but this really is as good as it gets. If I'm being exceptionally critical I would say that the veg that comes as seasonal side orders contained gorgeous potatoes with carrots & courgette in batter. I would've preferred sweetcorn and/or green beans or mange tout but that's just my personal preference. Our first visit but we will be back and very soon.Thank you gents, great job and make sure you keep it up...sub zero temperatures, snow & poor weather can't keep the punters away, the place is full because we like what you are offering!!!

Went to Sorrento`s Italian Restaurant 29.12.12 for a Birthday meal with family. Although i`d had a good meal last time i went i had`nt been back for a few years.Had an enormous prawn cocktail. Main course although not on the menu i asked for & got a delicious Steak Dianne. They certainly dont serve small portions. Lovely fresh vegetables, inc courgettes in tempura batter which were lovely & crusty fresh rolls. Also the dessert trolley has many tempting homemade dishes.Very attentive, polite & friendly staff who could`nt do enough for you. Can`t wait to go back & certainly won`t leave it so long. One of the best meals i`ve had for a long time. All 9 of us had very good meals & have all said we would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We came away impressed 5 years ago fully intending to revisit soon. Our penchant for trying different restaurants hindered our return, even though it cropped up in conversation many times.Eventually, we made it back and it was just like we had never been away! They always have a good selection of tasty dishes and matching wine, all at reasonable prices and served by keen and friendly waiters/esses. Try the fish dishes and lobster if they have it.We really will be back again before long.

Sorrento is a local institution, it is great value for money and every time we've been we've had a good meal with lots of food, you won't go hungry. They do a set menu with lots of choice for £12.95. Yes the place in a bit of time warp but that is part of its charm. The waiters are funny and charming. Some times the service can be a little slow depending how busy they are. Don't expect Gordon Ramsey and you'll love it.

We went on a week day evening and had the set menu £12.95 for 3 courses, too good to be true? Yes if we were expecting decent food. £2 for a small tonic water or cola. The starters Tomato & mozarella, had very little mozarella. The minestrone soup was watery and bland although pleny of it. The main course meat - we both had calves liver which was good until the vegatables. The little roast potatoes must have been cooked before and reheated at least once to be so dry & overcooked. Carrots were passable but battered corgette was reheated & limp. The desserts - my friend had a small portion of fruit so couldn't really go wrong and I had what was called lemon panecotta. It was barely any flavour, solid, creamy type desert still in it's ramekin dish and had gone hard on top and around the edges the way creamy things do when left uncovered for hours. It certainly was not Panecotta. If this place is run by Italians they really should know better & be ashamed of themselves. However waiting staff are very pleasant. Take care as tip is included in the bill. The night we were there were 2 birthday parties in but no one else.

This is our 'local' restaurant but we'd never been as its easy to drive past and not notice. When my husband and I read the reviews on Trip Advisor we thought we must be missing out so we booked a table. We expected to find a friendly restaurant with fresh, but not fancy Italian food at a reasonable price.First things first. I don't care if the whole team is born and bred in Sorrento, this is NOT an Italian restaurant. The food is so mediocre that it would be laughed out of Italy and I'm saddened that Britain still wants to fill the seats of such a place in 2012. Ristorante Sorrento is a trip back to 1987 and a bit of a deflating one at that.Positives: Staff are friendly and attentive and you get fast service. £16.95 for a three course set menu on a Saturday night is an excellent price. The House White was very competitive at £10.50 and an enjoyable tipple. The restaurant was fully booked and it has a cheerful and bustling atmosphere.Negatives:The food is bland, dated and not, I suspect all cooked on the premises. We ordered prawn cocktails hoping for a twist on the old classic and received defrosted prawns on iceberg with two enormous dollops of Marie Rose sauce. The sauces are unseasoned and our seasonal vegetables were massive chunks of carrot and some deep fried courgette, which was a bit soggy. I am pretty sure that our profiteroles were bought in bulk and defrosted in advance plus all the other desserts on the trolley (seriously, a dessert trolley is wheeled round!) looked bought, not baked.Ristorante Sorrento is akin to visiting your lovely old granny for Sunday lunch. It's very nice to see her but the weight of her stodgy food in your tummy for the rest of the day ensures that next time you'll just pop in for a cup of tea.

We were seated near the toilets, NICE, clearly we are not regulars, This wouldn't have been a problem had they bothered to clean them after the lunch trade. This restaurant was recommended to us, but we fail to see the hype, I had the lasagna which was just re-heated mush, my partner had chicken which tasted like it has been boiled. The best thing was the coffee.

My familly booked us a table for last Sunday here, having already been before no one bothered looking up the web site as we knew what to expect from the menu, what we weren't expecting was to be charged £16.95 for the exact lunch menu they offer for £10.95, dishonest way to line the owners pockets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think. Having spoken to a few people these last couple of day, this is also true of their christmas menu. Shame so many people fall for it.

This restaurant lacks competition that's probably why it doesn't bother trying to hard, the menu hasn't changed in 30 years, nor has the seriously out of date sweet trolley, which the old folk go mad for. The waiters are your usuall foreign show offs. The portions have got smaller in the last few years. It's a shame it used to have a good reputation.

Sorrentos in Tolworth area of Surbion is an an ideal place to celebrate with a group of friends. All ages here (no children) We were celebrating a 60th birthday but also there was a group celebrating an 80th birthday. A set price menu with enough choices, This also makes it easy to split the cost if required. I believe there is a supplement to pay for vegetarian dishes. The food was very nice but not sensational. A very good dessert trolly. For the price it was excellent value. The evening was more about the occasion. The staff tried hard to make the evening special. This restaurant has been established a long time and continues to attract repeat customers. Not the place to come if you want a quiet evening but it is not too noisy more a vibrant atmosphere with everyone enjoying themselves. It is best to book in advance.

We have been dining at Sorrentos on a number times over the past 15 years.it has always been for a special occasiona "big" birthday, anniversary etc. Again it has usually been with a group of between 4 and 12 people. The set price menu is good (and easy if you are going to split the bill). There is a reasonable choice and only once have I known anybody in our party having to complain about their meal. It does get busy and because it is often full and therefore can be a liitle noisy with people talking with slightly raised voices which is inevitable when in a group speaking to people at the other end of the table. Booking is recommended. the staff here are excellent and in their Italian way try to add something to the evening with their personalties.

It cerainly fullfilled the purpose of making the occasion memorable and we can recommend it here provided you do not want a romantic meal. If wanting to book for a Saurday night for a group phone between 2 and 3 weeks before to ensure getting a table. It is understandby very popular both on price and atmosphere. We had a 3 course set price menu for £15.95 which was excellent value. A sufficient choice to suit most people. If you want a vegetarian dish this is a surcharge. The food is well cooked and nicely presented. The service is typically Italian and the staff try and make your evening fun. You would not want to come here for a quiet romantic meal and it does tend to attract a number of small parties. It makes this restaurant a litlle noisy but not rowdy. It does have a vibrant and nice atmosphere. Sorrento's is an excellent place to eat to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary. Highly recommended.Booking in advance is essential epecially for Friday and Saturday nights. We would suggest at least a month to ensure you get your reservation especially for a party of 6 or more.

This was recommended by a friend who has been many times, and it lived up to the good review. We (four) had the set meal to save arguing about the bill and there was a great choice, especially since I am a fussy eater. We had the minestrone soup, the aubergine and the mozzarella salad. For our mains we all had liver - very tasty and the vegetable selection was good too. The sweets were chosen off the trolley - always a better bet since you can see them! A good value meal with helpful staff.

We have been eating at Ristorante Sorrento for decades. It is always busy (as a local favourite) giving lots of atmosphere but service is never compromised. The set menu is fantastic with amazing quality and choice. All mains on the set menu come with rosemary potatoes, a seasonal vegetable and amazing battered courgette. There is a great array of deserts served from the infamous desert trolley: choices include home made creme brûlée, profiteroles, tiramissu, caramelised oranges and fresh fruits among lots of others!Service is always friendly and attentative. We have been both during the day and evening and do find it more atmospheric in the evening. We have often holidayed in Italy and eat out a lot abroad but always look forward to returning to this gem.The location is not very picturesque (Tolworth Broadway rather than central surbiton) but is very accessible situated just off the A3. I would certainly make a reservation especially if you are travelling.
