Charming pub! Sun trap garden, local beers and ciders at incredibly fair prices. If you are walking in the area, it’s well worth going slightly out your way to come here.

Why can’t all Pubs be like this We had the most magical evening here incredible atmosphere reasonable could even say cheap prices lovely people staff and other guests . Maybe a bold statement but probably the best Pub we have ever been to sadly don’t live in Kent or I’d be here every night 😂🍺 Also very 🐶 friendly another huge bonus. Thanks everyone can’t wait to come back.

A very quirky pub hidden away in the countryside that will really take you back in time. No food except ice cream (or if you are lucky potato crisps). Check the opening times before you go - only open a few days a week. Lovely garden and rare chickens.

Came to stop whilst on a hiking trip. Was told fantastic stories about this place from the hiking instructor (e.g. how long this pub has been standing, who the owner is, funny stories around pub operations, and historical facts). We bought our lunch with us, but managed to try a local ale called Bulldog (around £4). The pub landlord, a lovely lady, was very friendly and caring. You won’t find your regular mainstream beer on draft.. but can find locally produced drinks in bottles. They have snacks such as crisps. They make homemade icecream (I believe £4 around a scoop). The atmosphere is fantastic and unique. It’s very old pub, and you can feel and smell it once you go inside. Very well maintained… very dull and dark inside… giving it a very traditional English pub feel. Please do call and find out if this pub is open.. as sometimes it can be closed.

Rising Sun - Google For a long time this hidden gem was a secret for those on the know. It is difficult to get to and unfindable on TA. It used to be busy when Peter ran it but since he passed away his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Rachel, manage it as a quaint old skool country pub with real ales and ice cream with packaged bar snacks available too. Since Michelle's cohort was affected by the rise in retirement age she is due for her pension in 2026. Until then she has to make ends meet and is finding it hard in this economic climate with fewer patrons. This pub is well worth making the effort to visit. Just come for the atmosphere inside, garden outside and the occasional folk gigs. It keeps on disappearing on TA despite my reviewing it a few times before! It also gets confused with other (much more chic, expensive and flashy) pubs locally and I have reported the misplaced photos. Just go with your loved ones or friends. You will not be disappointed. Cycle or drive there. The boxed Westerham Ales are good though so mind the units. Look out for the rare chicken and cow breeds too!

Lots of potential with this place and i doubt it would take much to drag it out of the doldrums. Barely functioning as a pub due to neglect. Some family members are working hard but are dragged down by others who seem uninterested. A little TLC and someone who's handy with basic DIY and this place could be a real authentic gem of a rural public house. Lots of travelling folk present at the festival days they hold so can get rowdy. Cars often triple stack parked with no way of clearing the deadlock and woe betide asking the folk who blocked you in to move. It'll be missed when its gone but it'll be no surprise unfortunately. A Crooked House waiting to happen.

A true country pub in the most glorious location down some of the smallest lanes in Kent. Locked in a time warp of proper old fashioned hostelries with the first sensation upon walking through the entrance is the fragrant scent of woodsmoke (even though this was a fairly hot day in May). I must say, though that the cleanliness of the glasses are stuck in the same time warp, even though mine (for my can of Guinness) had recently been through the glass washer. It was heavily stained with tannin. I wonder when this machine was last cleaned? This is just housekeeping which did rather reflect on the rest of the establishment. No draught beer. Yes, the pumps were there, but the ales that we had (and very good they were - perhaps the stained glasses added that little extra "je ne sais quoi"?) were all served from a "box" sitting on the counter. Perhaps this is what happens in these days of limited opening hours, in which case it is rather sensible. I make these comment as a person who was in this industry for over 40 years, so I might just be being a little too critical on one of those pubs that is a real discovery.

A little hard to find as partially hidden behind a hedge for part of the year. Lovey garden, friendly and chatty landlady, two adorable Labradors plus terrier and cat. Inside it is a very pleasing ‘time-capsule’ of how I remember country pubs in their heyday. Very happy to recommend.

I went there two years ago and found the most rude woman running the place. Been back a few times (including today) and found that despite the sign saying walkers and dogs are welcome, the place is always closed. Today the place was locked. As we walked away some surly chap turned up in a car and said he wasn't opening today. I've wasted enough time here...

A ramshackle 'proper' pub with bags of character and charm - the sort the chain pubs try, and fail, to create. The owner is lovely, and very friendly. A smashing little backwater pub, that must be judged, and cherished, on that basis.

Wow, this is a place. It's literally everything you wouldn't expect from a pub, its smoky, the residents are in their pj's and their dogs and cats occupy the bar. I didn't end up getting a beer as they don't take cards but would have been a bit suspicious if I did. It's in the middle of no where and was at the mid point in my walk so would have had a beer regardless if I'd had the cash. Worth a visit just to experience the weirdness!

Went on Friday and was very poor ( I said before I wouldn’t go again & wish I hadn’t ). No poached eggs as they were “too busy” & can you believe they’d run out of bread by 2 o’clock? How about you send someone to Waitrose to restock ? Definitely my last visit. Will go to Gail’s or one of the other places . This is a cafe without a toilet that charges top notch prices and doesn’t offer the food or service to match .
