Rioja in Doncaster

We had a funeral buffet here 28.4.23 All was absolutely beautiful, the food was exceptional and the service was excellent. Thank you to Lee and David for making the day special. Our guests said it was the best buffet they had ever had and great choice of drinks .

Wow! what can I say, food absolutely lip smacking, service on food and drinks A⭐️. Ordered from party menu and couldn’t manage dessert so a percentage was knocked off. Can’t recommend enough!!

I’ve passed this please most mornings to collect paper from the shop next door. Unfortunately and at my cost I have never given Rioja a second thought. However, I decided last week to give it a try. Wow, what a surprise, first of all the place is pleasant small basic in its seating but spotless, it’s cuisine is a take on tapas, but with good size portions, we had, the Nachos, a chicken dish, a steak and mussels, so plentiful we had to leave a little. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of white wine, a mix of Chardonnay and Sauvignon, which was excellent, by the way the wine glasses were clean and shiny, always a good sign. The service was excellent and the cost reasonable at £60. This won’t be my last visit. I rated it 4/5 however it’s nearer 4.5/5

Arranged to meet friends at our local, didn’t book as we wasn’t eating, walked to the bar and Lee the owner said have you booked we said no he said well there’s no tables but then told us there was a table for 2, our friends were to join us 10 mins later so not a seat for them, he could see we were stood, all the time we were there 2 regular customers were sat on a table for 6 people, clearly some favouritism going on! Went to the Maple as would rather give them our money than someone who’s not bothered about custom

The dishes are amazing and decent portions well presented. Drinks are good too no dirty or worn out glasses. The place also really nice and a little quirky so really worth a visit.

I live in Spain and was visiting family in Doncaster. The tapas was fantastic. Better than any tapas I have had in Spain. The two young ladies who served us were absolutely lovely. Cannot fault this restaurant 😊

We were a group of 4 friends. When we arrived we were placed on the six seater table in the middle of the restaurant. Greeted by lovely staff, very quick service. We found the seats to this table very uncomfortable, so we asked to move to a different table with more comfortable seats. The staff were great about this and we were moved. We were advised to order two dishes each because the portions were large, to be honest we should have ordered three each what we normally do at a Tapas because we found the portions were not very generous. The service was great with happy staff. Great live music and great atmosphere.

The food was great in its variety and taste. Atmosphere was good with low and high tables creating a rustic feel when coupled with the decor. Wine was good value for money. Staff were slow and lacked any warmth

Small, busy venue so best to book a table. Staff friendly and attentive. Good great and there is a new menu worth trying. 2 for a tenner on cocktails you can't complain about either. Highly recommend.

Called in after work for a drink. Ordered drinks and Breads with olives. 25 minutes later bread hadn’t arrived and we had finished our drink. Mentioned to staff who were very unfriendly with no apology and just said 2 minutes Waited nothing happened, asked to cancel and staff just said ok! No apology! Overall felt unwelcome

We went with some friends on Saturday night for tapas and drinks. I’ve been before and always enjoyed it whether it be breakfast or dinner. This was our first visit since before lockdown, the menu had lots of choice and the food was delicious. I love the laid back atmosphere here and can’t wait to go again!

Highly recommend the tapas,we had breads and olives followed by Iberico pork - Salt cod, px Chicken and sizzling prawns - the food looked amazing and tasted equally as good, this is not your average tapas restaurant we cant wait to go back and try it again

Met friends tonight for tea, the best meal iv had in a long time, I had chicken breast burger with chorizo and mozzarella, stunning! It was also beautifully presented on a wooden bored. They have got it so right in there 👍🏻

Eating at rioja has become somewhat of a regular thing for me and my mates. The bar it’s a brilliant place decorated in a really trendy up to date fashion. The staff are always very attentive coming o er to the table welcoming us and taking our drinks order. The menu is extensive (I’ve had both breakfast and main menu, both brilliant) there a huge range of tapas dishes, pizzas and build your own burger. We went on Saturday and had the tapas. Every dish was amazing and the presentation was brilliant. I really can’t recommend this place enough

My wife and I called today for a coffee and ended up having the 3 tapas for £15The tapas were larger than some places we’ve been to, and really can’t fault the quality. Don’t know her name but the young women with glasses was lovely and very friendly and polite we got on really well with her.Nice setting and will return. It would have been a 5 rating apart from the main door. Every time it was opened it was cold as it didn’t shut properly.If you’ve not been give it a go. We’re going to go back and try the breakfast options as they are also different

I absolutely love Rioja. The atmosphere is so welcoming and very relaxed. The food is absolutely delicious and so well presented. I’m very impressed with how flexible the chef (Dave) is in terms of catering for vegans - the pancakes are so yummy, plus the avocado/ mushroom toast - to die for! They also have oat milk (the most sustainable dairy-free milk). I highly recommend a visit!

Nice atmosphere and good reception. Table for 6 easily sorted by pulling the tables together.Friendly waitress took our orders. Only our table ordered food but waited nearly 40 minutes for it to arrive!All dishes were a fair size for Tapas apart from the chicken skewers. 2 of us had them and commented that they were tough, dry and cold. Had someone come to ask us if everything was OK with our meals we would have told them.Only when the waiter came to collect the plates did we say anything. He nodded and muttered something but clearly wasn't going to pass our comment on which was a shame.Customer service could be improved. Overall the food was good shame about the chicken.

We visited Rioja on Saturday lunch time to meet with my brother and family who live local. How we wish this was local to us!!! The food and service were both excellent. Large selection of drinks. We had the cocktails which were delicious. A very nice atmosphere and surroundings. We will definitely be back in the New year.

Fabulous little tapas bar! The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating. The wine list had loads to choose from and even plenty of cocktails on offer. Ended up ordering the burgers as we were very hungry. The burgers were good quality with homemade chips. Nice that you can build your own as well. Definitely will be returning to have the tapas and try breakfast!

What a great decision - Nice atmosphere & wonderful food. Won't be long before we return with friends this year.

My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. Excellent food for a reasonable price, just remember to bring a doggy bag!

Its been a few months since we ate here, we booked a table for breakfast on a fairly busy Friday morning. 1 person working, who seemed rushed off her feet. she came over promptly, took our coffee order and when she returned after a longer than i would of liked wait, with our drinks, we ordered our food.

Myself & my husband booked a table for last Saturday night at Rioja - amazing food for both starters & mains. Very generous portions, I couldn’t eat all mine! Beautifully presented as well. The restaurant was very quiet which seemed such a shame for a Saturday night. The young girl at the bar was lovely & polite. You definitely need to visit to experience the tasty well presented food. A great find.

Waitresses were great, waiter not so. Please cafes if you advertise that you use a specialty coffee roaster, in this case Forge, do them the honor and prepare the coffee properly, I was served a flat white too hot and badly extracted, tasted like an ashtray.

We visit Rioja quite often as its local to us. Always really enjoyed the tapas style menu and never had any complaints about the food. Personally i didnt think things needed to change but obviously the management thought something was missing/not working.

Went here with family for the first time! Great place! Food and atmosphere is fun! Fab cocktails and reasonable priced!

We actually ate here several times in early May and tried a few different menu items. My favourite was the eggs Benedict and my husband enjoyed the mushrooms with blue cheese the most. The regular breakfast was quite large and filling. My husband chose the tapas special both times which included bread, patatas brava and one choice. On our first visit, the bread was served fresh and my husband really enjoyed the dip. On our second visit, the bread arrived toasted. There was a very large pat of butter almost as big as a slice of cheese on the tapas plate on each visit. The Hollandaise sauce was very tasty and I would definitely choose it on another visit. I think they serve the breakfast items until 2:30 during the week.

Just dropped in for Brunch. Had the fish cakes with poached eggs and hollandaise. Washed down with a pint of Meantime IPA. Sat outside with my wife in the sun. All fantastic!

The food was a poor excuse for tapas. It was bland, cold & confused. We waited almost an hour for our dishes to arrive & although all 4 of us felt hungry, promptly left over half of it. I felt sick after eating greasy horrible chorizo. The Canadian waitress was lovely & deserved to be running her own restaurant. She knew without asking that it wasn’t good enough, immediately reducing our bill without the need of being challenged.

If wanting to take advantage of this extremely good offer then it's important to book as the venue can become very busy. This menu costs £16.95 per person. Each person initially orders 3 dishes each from a varied selection on the menu to suit all tastes and dietry requirements. The dishes come with bread and red wine reduction/oil for dipping which are do good. The option once the 3 dishes per person are devoured is to then order another one/two per person until basically each member of the party is pleasantly stuffed!. The food was amazing. The staff were friendly and attentive and the rioja was one of the nicest I've tasted... and I've sampled a few. A lovely evening

Visited with work colleagues. Had two sharing platters which were very nice and a bottle of wine. Nice ambience. Plenty of choice on the menu. A bit pricey, but I think that Tapas in general is very overpriced and not a reflection on Rioja.

Popped in for lunch with friends as we’d only been for coffee before. Being vegetarian, I was impressed there was plenty of choice and opted for tapas. Service was good and staff friendly and helpful. The only complaint would be it’s a tad dark, depending where you sit, but this will not stop us coming back!

Very good welcome, it was empty at Brunch. Which was well cooked & served. Good value price for good quality large meal. This establishment is full of character which I intend to visit again. Also possibly visit in the evening & enjoy the character & atmosphere

Went to sample the tapas with some friends the husband offered to drive so i could try some fine red wine.

Always been a fan of this much needed place in the area but what i love is they take on board feedback from customers and try and improve.

I had decided to take my wife here as she works not too far away and we had an hour so hoped we could fit it in. Arrived in super bright October sunlight around 1pm to be greeted by this small but quaint bar in between a row of local shops. We sat in the raised outdoor lounge and ordered sandwiches with halloumi chips (they don’t do normal chips). The food came quickly along with our glasses of wine and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Waitress was chatty and although it was very quiet we still felt looked after. The two sandwiches, chips and two glasses of wine came to £26 which I thought was very reasonable given the surroundings. Would definitely return, maybe for a nice breakfast one day

Enjoyed lunch with my partner after visiting for the first time, with the girls, the week before. We had the tapas special again and everything was delicious ... the red wine reduction is just yummy ... and couldn’t fault a thing. Loved the surroundings, relaxed atmosphere and great friendly service from Nathan. Thank you. We’ll be back to sample the new menu.

We had a great girls night at Rioja. We had the special deal with fresh hot bread & 4 tapas dishes between 2. It was amazing! and very good value.

Drinks was lovely and the girl with glasses and big hair makes a lovely cocktail lol. Food didn’t quite meet the table service nor cocktail standard. We’d ordered a tapas special, starter was lovely but the main was a let down; My patatas bravas was hard in the middle, my glazed chicken was undercooked, prawns missing but hallumi fries was spot on.

Nice place! Friendly staff and nice decor! The food is also tasty and very photogenic, was very happy with my experience.

Visited early evening yesterday and very disappointed that the ‘red wine reduction ‘ dipping oil tasted of nothing but oil!

I’ve been to Rioja a few times now, each time at lunch with colleagues. I’ve never had any complaints about this place and the food and staff have always been spot on. Having had such good experiences previously, I suggested Rioja to my mum this evening. We rarely eat out together but I was sure this would be a good suggestion.

We visited on a quiet Monday night but were welcomed and had an excellent night. We had the tapas special: delicious breads and flavoured butters and oil, patatas bravas plus 4 tapas selections, all of which were delicious and generous. £28 for 2 people, so great value. We also had lovely cocktails and other drinks. This was one of the best meals out we’ve had in a long time

Highly recommend this place. I visit her regularly and the drinks and food are fab!! The gin board is a great idea, 3 gins of your choice and a tonic for a fantastic price. Great selection of wines and cocktails for a reasonable price to and the food is amazing, great for sharing with friends. Will be returning soon.

First time visiting last night, just me and my hubby. From the minute we walked in the staff were friendly and very attentive. The girl behind the bar made lovely cocktails and the manager was very knowledgeable about the food menu. He helped to pick our tapas on his recommendation and it didn't disappoint. The paella was lovely although we were a tad greedy ordering after tapas so we couldn't finish it. Overall a lovely little place and would definitely return. Thank you.

This is one of my favourite places in Doncaster. The food is superb and the service great. Owner is lovely and always very welcoming. Great selection of tapas...definitely recommend the special offer.

Visited here with my partner and parents. Great service. Seated within minutes. Really prompt taking drinks orders and a good selection of drinks. The staff have a great knowledge of drinks and the food on the menu. Best tapas I have visited in Doncaster. Tastes like real, authentic Spanish food. Myself and my friend went to Rioja on a Friday night. Food was absolutely stunning! Really tasty food and a great deal on tapas. They also had a singer on and he was great.

Oh wow.... extremely wow... the best crozzled streaky bacon sandwich on ciabatta bread....ever! The scrambled egg on great chunks of toasted sourdough looked fabulous also....and, I'm assured, tasted devine

Called in for lunch after some shopping in town. The place was deserted but as they were open for food we decided to stay. I was disappointed in the choice of tapas but the sandwiches looked good so we ordered the chicken and chorizo and the beef with a side of patatas bravos. It was a bit of a wait to say we were the only customers however a glass of red helped, the food arrived and looked and tasted good. It wasn’t spectacular and l’m pretty sure the items had been warmed through after defrosting - we housewives know how long a cheap cut of beef Brisket takes to cook, but with the sauce it was a tasty dish and one l would have again. I would go again but an evening visit next time and see how the place fares when busy.

Went today with my little family and had the most delicious Sunday lunch whilst my vegetarian stepdad still enjoyed the tapas menu suited to his needs . It wasn't busy , the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was very good . Would highly recommend!

We come here regulary, the food is always spot on, i did however notice on our most recent visit that there are several items that carry an supplement when ordering the tapas special, leaving a fairly limited choice in my opinion if you arent wanting to spend over. it is on the pricey side, but worth it as the quality is there and its a nice place. One thing i did notice that the service was a little slow, in the absence of the manager, glasss not cleared etc which they are normally on straight away

Visit here regularly for tapas, lunch or breakfast and have always enjoyed the food. First visit for Sunday lunch, but definitely won't be out last. Lovely freshly cooked meal and meat was not over cooked which is often a issue with eating out in places that are doing lots of covers on a sunday. Certainly plenty to eat and proper Yorkshire puddings. Would definitely recommend for somewhere different to try and make sure you sample the cocktails if visiting here as they are excellent.

Really enjoyed an evening with family at Rioja Tapas bar. The food was lovely. We weren't sure what we fancied so we went with the recommendation of the bar owner. The food we had was cooked to perfection and so very tasty. The wine was not too expensive and helped to make a really enjoyable evening

Absolutely loved this place. First visit from a recommendation and it surpassed expectations. Friendly staff and great service were followed by a gorgeous platter of super tasty tapas and warm breads. I would highly recommend a visit to the rioja with its warm decor and feeling that just chilled me out. I’m a chef and hard to please but believe me you won’t be disappointed here. We decided to make the drive to try something new. The look of the place is to a very high standard. The staff were very prevent and helpful. The meals was okay. Some of the bread was not fresh but we still had plenty to eat.

Lovely lunch today with friends.. we had the lunch special and a sharing tapas platter which was excellent with a bottle of prosecco between us..I would highly recommend for a relaxed get other .. I will definitely be visiting again perhaps try an evening..

Relaxing environment, helpful friendly staff, good food very well presented - what more do you need. We will definitely return. We only popped in for a quick glass of wine - ended up ordering food as we could see how good it looked - wasn't disappointed. Checking out some other reviews I can understand their disappointment - after all, there are no cicadas and everyone speaks with a Yorkshire accent - but you know where the airport is! Visiting Rochester for work we found this great Tapas restaurant. Small family run business with great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming. Modern decor with trendy furniture and interior design. Comfortable and inviting. Menu was simple and ample choices without being too complex and distracting. The food seemed like it was home made and actually delicious, the portions were ample. The outstanding dish of the evening was the chicken Arancini, absolutely awesome!! House red was great with these foods. Very reasonable price too. Next time we’re in the area we will definitely return for more of this delicious food!

Called in having heard through the grapevine that Rioja served good tapas...wow. The dishes are clearly cooked from scratch and are fantastic. No bland "one dish blends into another" here; each is distinct and full of flavour. To top it off, the staff are attentive and really pleasant, and the cocktail/wine menu extensive. Whilst I'd love to keep this place quiet, it would do it an injustice. Visit Rioja. Now.

Ignore the bad reviews! This is authentic FRESH spanish tapas!!! The paella is to die for and the meatballs have an authentic kick to them

Much better places to go try La Fiesta in Armthorpe... a finer experience and food to die for. Rioja is set in a small conclave of local shops. There is an outdoor seating area if you don't mind sitting in a car park :-(

Visited on a Thursday evening with my partner last month after a yoga class, we called in a tea time to check if we needed to book at table. I really liked the ambience of the restaurant and the staff were really friendly, we asked if all the food was made fresh, I don’t eat meat but ask about the prawns, were they fresh or frozen, a nice young lady was happy to tell us the prawns were frozen. For me the menu was in my opinion a bit limited and not really what I consider to be tapas. We had been in Saville only weeks before and had been so spoiled with the tapas food. Later when we came back and sat and ordered our meal with a large class of red wine each, I was driving and only drank part of the glass and pass it over, the manager took our order and insisted everything was prepared and cooked fresh, food came and looked very similar to the photos, deep fried and didn’t taste much of anything, prawn were just cooked but almost cold! Well to me the food looked like it had been warmed up and not fresh. We will not probably visit Rioja again.

This is what Doncaster needs. A truly Spanish Tapas Bar and Restaurant. The food is to die for especially the paella. Of all the so called Spanish restaurants around Doncaster this one is by far the best. I would rather say one of the best in Yorkshire.

Excellent place for brunch. Great menu with lots of choice. Lovely friendly service. Great value. Recommend the baked eggs. My friends had food envy when my brunch arrived. Nice coffee too.

Great decor, but a bit dark. Popped in for coffee and cake, which was delicious. They offer a good breakfast menu and the tapas also look good, but not tried yet. Make sure you check the drinks menu before you just order a coffee (as we did), as there are more exciting options for hot drinks.

How could anybody say this lovely little tapas isn't anything but exceptional. I have eaten in many restaurants throughout the country and this is a well above average in its unique fine dining flavours and exceptional quality food. The chefs beautiful cuisine wouldn't look out of place alongside any Michelin restaurant. The prawns are perfectly cooked and presented, the Mini Belly Pork..Wow. Can't fault any dish we had. These people know food and offer it with superb enthusiasm along with a a great laid back environment. Terrible Tripadvisor app doesn't seem to let me select a rating for service, food and value. But all 5*. Great cider too!

Unique place within a shopping precinct. Food excellent as is the service. Lacks on the wine front. Reasonable selection, nothing unique, selling some that are exactly the same and freely available in convenience stores at a quarter of the price. Yes they have over heads but a little extreme.

Really nice place to have a drink after a hard day in the office. The atmosphere is is relaxing and welcoming with occasional music nights to liven it up at the weekend if you like.

I went here with my friend on the 13th of oct, we meet up every couple of months and want somewhere we can go early and leave late and this place was perfect!

Visited Riojas with my husband for a quiet sat afternoon. Lovely peaceful setting. Great tapas board to share and lovely wine. Would highly recommend this place.

Brilliant night, food was great. The staff were attentative, they know the menu well and can advise on certain dishes. Highly recommended, we've been a few times and intend to visit again soon!

We visited for the first time with friends. The food was beautiful, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The first Friday in every month is music night and the singer was really good. The host checked with us all evening and advised us on food. All in all a brilliant night and we will definitely be going back. We loved it!

Just been served by Lee, this was our second visit to have the steak sandwich with the Patata Brava (looks like sauteed potato in tomato/creme fraiche). Food was excellent, service very friendly and efficient. What more can you say?

Have visited several times now, service and food has been constantly fantastic. Great coffee, Sunday brunch to suit all, sharing boards great in an afternoon, tapas to share for two at £27 is brilliant, only problem is I like them all. Best estrella in Doncaster and espresso martini where you can't stop at one!

I went here for the first time. I was on my own but it felt comfortable and welcoming. I had the smokey baked eggs - it was delicious and would definitely recommend it. Prices are reasonable. Repeat visit on the cards
