Rio in Argyll & Bute

Wir kamen zu fünft und wurden schon recht pampig begrüßt. Außer uns waren nur drei andere Gäste da. Die Bedienungen waren sehr ruppig und haben keine einladende Atmosphäre geschaffen. Das Essen war ok aber auch nichts besonderes. Für uns kein zweiter Besuch wert

My wife and I had a fantastic lunch the Bar Rio, my wife had the God Father pizza which described as one of the best pizzas she has ever had, I had the Buttermilk Chicken Burger which actually melted in my mouth, fantastic!!! I have to say that the service was also excellent, a very friendly experience.

Excellent service. Very friendly and good humoured staff. Had pizza and pasta. Both were excellent and the passion cake was divine. Appreciated the 60's soundtrack too. Will return next time we're visiting.😁

I was drawn in by the lunchtime soup and sandwich offer of £8.95 clearly advertised outside on chalkboard and in window (see picture). Food was nice enough, however when the bill arrived the waitress explained that offer was now actually £10.95, as price had changed recently, albeit this was not reflected in adverts outside. Felt a bit cheated and won’t be returning to this location sadly.

My partner had pasta, and I had pizza, and both were very mediocre. The service was efficient but not particularly friendly.

Lovely visit to Bar Rio this afternoon, great food and fantastic service from Tricia and Sandy. We will definitely be back in January ☺️👍

Had a late lunch today and I cannot understand why this restaurant is not busier. The service was first class and the food was tasty and reasonably priced.

Had 2 takeaway pizzas from here spicy meatball pizza and a mushroom thin crust both where really good, well cooked and really tasty.

Was in for dinner this evening with my partner at around 5pm, the restaurant was empty besides my partner and I. The waitress and the service was good but the food was a massive let down. We both had the chicken burger which Is usually amazing but tonight was the polar opposite the chicken was 3 tiny thin pieces of dried out batter essentially it was borderline inedible this was especially disappointing because we waited almost 30 minutes for our meal We usually love bar rio but tonight was a massive let down

Siano entrati in questo ristorante che prometteva anche pizza e un menù maggiormente mediterraneo Abbiamo iniziato con una caprese non male e proseguito con spaghetti alla bolognese Devo dire non male rispetto al timore che sempre un italiano prova all'estero aspettandosi la pasta della mamma o della nonna.Troppo abbondante il ragù (per i nostri standard) che di sapore era buono. What a nice dinner! The menu is quite varied, but as we had had a late lunch, we decided on sharing a huge fish (haddock) and chips dinner. The fish was delicate and perfectly cooked and the fries were the best we've had in Scotland. But even better was the service from Trisha (drinks) and Sandy (food)! Even though it was a busy night, we always felt they were aware of our needs. Great job!

J'ai commandé un burger en pensant ne pas prendre de risque... Très mauvaise surprise lors du service, un steak surgelé 1er prix dégoûtant, idem pour la feuille de laitue iceberg et la tranche de tomate. Les pizzas avaient également l'air d'être surgelées. J'ai compris pourquoi ce restaurant n'était pas complet contrairement aux autres. Serveuse peu avenante. Je déconseille vivement à moins d'être à la recherche de sensations fortes aux toilettes. J'aurais aimé voir l'état des cuisines.

Decent pizza and a pint of Caledonia’s Best. The place was clean and not at all crowded at around 1:45 PM on a Thursday. Good stop for a light lunch in Oban.

Got the pizza and I’ve had better from Iceland and my wife got the barbecue chicken with chefs special tomato sauce it was more like chicken tikka bbq pasta had to load the pizza and pasta with Parmesan cheese so it tasted of something never again.

We ate here as a family of six and on the whole found the food to be okay. The waitress, however, was quite surly and rude. George was reasonably friendly but that's all I can say about the staff!

I saw so so reviews here but I have to tell you this was excellent. We had a steak and a pasta dish. A glass of wine and a scotch. Food was amazing. Oh also the tomato soup was outstanding. I had a great experience...

Had a Buttermilk chicken burger which consisted of ‘2’ chicken breasts in a child sized bun. One chicken breast was 90% batter and the other was just over 0.5cm thick. Tasted ok, but was essentially a burger bun with onions, lettuce and fried batter.

We got a table here at short notice when we were let down by restaurant we had booked with. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best experience. I think, like everywhere in tourist spots, they are really struggling for staff and most of the staff they had were not that great. Our pizzas were absolutely delicious and definitely no complaints there! The other food ordered was very average. Don’t order cocktails though - these were not good!

Food made us all sick the day after as it tasted like microwaved garbage that had been sitting around for weeks. However this wasn’t even the worst thing about this place as the waitresses were on another level of abysmal. Blonde woman that waited for us was very cold upon arrival almost robotic like. We weren’t shown to our table and when she came over to take our order she was very short with us. The cutlery was launched at us like a magic act throwing darts at a rotating subject. Once the food finally arrived it was delivered in what can only be described as a human buffet table. The food was not served but instead we had to reach over to the waitress’s poorly extended arms to serve our own food. There were no words exchanged at this point she just stared blankly. It felt like we were waitressing for her. We asked for garlic Mayo which arrived over top of the table just hovering there like a ufo. Again, we had to serve it ourselves. Safe to say we won’t be back here. It’s the first time we have not left a tip and felt no guilt. I am convinced rude behaviour and bad conversational skills are part of their training.

Read previous mixed reviews but decided to try out Bar Rio and were not disappointed.3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals which were all very good value for money.Good selection of drinks and service from the waiter and two waitresses were first class.

Clean, open restaurant. Great food for the price point (great value!). Pizza base some of the best we have had (12inch thin). Could have benefitted from some background music. Staff very courteous and friendly. Highly recommend.

The behavior of the waiters toward my friends was unacceptable, maybe consider not calling your clients liars when they tell you politely you got their order wrong. Also, cutlery are not supposed to be thrown at clients.

Arrived in Oban on a very wet Thursday night after a long day travelling. Decided to eat in the hotel as too tired to go any farther that night. Had a very tasty meal in Bar Rio . The highlight was the home made steak pie which was of enormous proportions and of very good quality. Also tried the king prawn penne pasta which was very tasty but could have been a wee bit warmer. Overall-a good meal and very good value for money.

Italian and Indian cuisine. All were excellent. Nice atmosphere, good service, good prices. Best food we had all weekend.

We decided we wanted pizza for dinner before we found out the restaurant we wanted to dine at was booked up. We decided we still wanted pizza so came to Bar Rio.The restaurant lives up to its name as it feels more like a bar with seating than a restaurant. The decor is uninspiring and the tv's were showing music videos of club music.We ordered two pizzas and two side salads, everything was just ok. The pizzas were greasy and thin and the salads were inconsistent. One salad had far more capsicum and tomato than the other.I've given an average score because the price was quite cheap but you may be able to get better pizza for the same price elsewhere in Oban.

We came here as a trio last week. Food was good as it has been in the past when we have visited. We ordered a pizza, a pasta and a burger. Food came out hot, full of flavour and we didn’t wait long either. Service was fantastic, our waiter Stephen always had a smile on his face from the minute we walked through the door, nothing was a problem, he was friendly and easy to chat away to. 5 star to him! If you haven’t been to this place you must give it a go! Always worth the visit!

El menú era un poco al azar con pizza, pasta y curry, que era un poco desagradable en las impresiones iniciales, pero no dejes que esto te engañe. Nos alojamos en el hotel en el que se encuentra este restaurante. Al principio parecía extraño, como si estuviera luchando por su propia identidad. El menú variaba desde comida de bar estándar, hasta pizzas italianas, pastas, luego una página aleatoria de curry en la parte posterior. Mi compañero y yo pedimos la única mitad de pizza, mitad de pasta como nunca habíamos visto antes. Fue muy sabroso y una alternativa encantadora a todos los impresionantes mariscos que se ofrecen en Oban. El personal fue muy amable y servicial. Una comida barata y alegre, volveremos.

Esta es una muy buena adición al Hotel Columba desde la última vez que estuvimos allí. Comimos en Bar Rio la primera noche de nuestra estancia, y en general fue muy bueno. Hay una gran selección en el menú y la comida y el servicio fueron excelentes. No somos fanáticos de los deportes, por lo que la pantalla masiva y una pequeña en nuestra mesa de comedor fueron más bien una distracción, pero reconocemos que esto es lo que muchas personas quieren hoy en día.Mi marido tenía tres platos: Bruschetta, un postre Bellatoni Pizza y Chocolate Fondant para terminar, una pinta de cerveza y dos vasos de vino tinto de 250 ml. Todos los platos eran geniales.Solo tenía lo que era una ensalada César excelente y una botella de agua con gas. Los dos estábamos realmente sorprendidos al descubrir por nuestra factura que mi agua costaba la friolera de 4. 20) Ese cargo exorbitante empeoró aún más por el hecho de que mi plato principal costaba solo 7. 95) La pinta de Heverlee fue solo 3. 60 y los vinos de 250 ml fueron solo 5. 25 por amor de Dios.Definitivamente recomiendo la comida, el servicio y la ubicación, pero elija sabiamente sus bebidas si desea una buena relación calidad-precio.

A mix of mostly Italian and Indian food on the menu, which is an interesting choice. Large portions but the food is decidedly average, although it is reasonably priced and the staff were attentive. There were large projector screens playing music channels loudly which was quite offputting. There are definitely better restaurants in Oban.

Was accommodated pretty late for dinner for four.Service was great, food was good and value for money.

Whilst touring Scotland and spending a couple of days in Oban, popped in to the Rio for an Early Bird Special Meal. Both opted for the Spag Bol - excellent value for money - good size portion - served promptly. Friendly staff. Recommended.

We thought when we saw there menu, they offered something for everyone's tastes - and we were right. Seven people & 7 different orders and everyone was pleased. Also a good selection of beer & wine. Service was good & prices reasonable.

This restaurant is part of the St Columba's Hotel near a harbour. We ordered a pasta dish - Al Forno - however it was awful and so much so we both left the bulk of the meal. Waiter who was behind the bar asked if we enjoyed our meal. Told him "no". Paid our bill and left. The plates would have told their own story as to how we felt about the meal The question "Is this restaurant good for lunch" - As I am basing this on our own experience and one visit only I cannot answer this question .

A fork-kicking and chair-throwing waitress made the stay quite unpleasant. The food might be okay for a bar late at night with some alcohol next to it. But not for lunch or some serious dinner.

Stayed in hotel, decided to give this restaurant a try.

Ideal central position on the North pier, so very busy bar/restaurant. We booked a table here because we had tried to get in the previous night and it was too busy. Friendly and efficient staff, nice food, we all enjoyed what we ordered. It is a bit too noisy for me with multiple screens and loud music. I didn't realize it was part of the Columbia Hotel until I went upstairs to the toilets!

We ate twice in this restaurant on our visit to Oban. The food was very good and plentiful and the service was friendly. The menu is a bit limited but they do very tasty pasta dishes and pizzas and enormous steak pies if you are really hungry.

With time wearing on and not having booked anywhere we chanced a gamble on Bar Rio as Oban was busy and we figured you can't go much wrong with Pizza and Pasta.

Lo scorso giovedì a cena non si trovava un ristorante senza prenotazione ad Oban. Girando nella zona del porto con la mia famiglia abbiamo trovato il Bar Rio Pizzaria, pur non cercando un ristorante italiano. E' stata però una bella sorpresa, cercavamo anche la cucina glutee free. Abbiamo trovato tutto, una calda atmosfera, la cortesia, ci hanno fatto aspettare solo 10 minuti e la cucina ci ha soddisfatto così come il prezzo. Lo consiglio.

I enjoyed a very nice lunch here. I arrived here as I’d searched several other nearby places but they only offered bread, fried, pastry or chips .. but here I got a good meal of grilled salmon with broccoli, cauliflower and Asian dressing. There were sweet potato chips also. They did leave off my salad though. The service is very nice and it didn’t take long. I was there a little before noon, so it may get busier later into lunchtime. People had started to arrive by the time I was leaving. Overall it was lovely so if this is the kind of food you’re after you will be fine here.

We had pizzas. They were well below the standard you'd get in a cheap supermarket. Tasting only of salt and smothered in processed cheese. That it had unreserved tables on a weekend in August should have rung warning bells. We decided to try it and wished we hadn't. Certainly will not go back.

Difficult to find a restaurant in Oban at very busy time in August. We end here we had no reservation. Staff is nice but food is average.

Sea food pasta’s taste horrible and mussels still cold the worst is some mussels is not fresh and smelly. Pasta bolognese is bland and Yucky😨 Garlic bread is so oily!!! Parmesan-chess is old and stink!!!

The staff were super helpful even though short staffed. I ordered the seafood pasta and asked if chilli could be added to it. Honestly the best seafood pasta I have ever had. Thanks to the chef for making it spicy for me! My husband had a half and half pizza and pasta which is a great idea! The orange sorbet for dessert was also exquisite. Only thing was that there were lots of TV screens and music videos which felt unneeded and distracting for a place that creates its own atmosphere simply from the food and friendly staff

Delicious food served quickly by very friendly staff. Pizzas too large for kids so they were given a takeaway box to put the remainder in to take home.

Love mussels. Bored with them in white wine and garlic. I love good tomato sauce. This place marries fresh, large mussels with a fresh tomato sauce.

I’ll keep this short. If I’d wanted to wait 35 minutes for onion rings and a tasteless chicken breast supposedly coated in chilli and Cajun spices I’d have went to farmfoods and bought them myself.

You don't get 50% of a usual pizza. The give you a tiny wee kids pizza, and using simple maths (πr²) you can work out its maybe 25% of the area of the main pizzas everyone gets. Other than that, great.

La comida era increíble, mi nieta de 4 años pulió un espagueti de tamaño adulto porque a ella le encantó. Mi hamburguesa era sabrosa y mi hija dijo que el salmón era increíble. El servicio también fue fantástico. Si alguna vez vuelvo a Oban, no dudaría en tener otra comida aquí.

Party of 9 reservó una mesa para alejarse del menú local de Wetherspoons soso. El menú era variado, y todos querían algo diferente, desde bistec hasta pasta y lubina. Nos quedamos impresionados, cada comida era increíble y todos estaban más que felices con sus comidas. El personal era eficiente y servicial, especialmente Millie y Stephen. Sí, usted paga más que Wetherspoons, pero no es demasiado caro y, en realidad, la calidad, el sabor y el servicio valieron la pena. Lo recomendaría y volveremos cuando visitemos Oban nuevamente.

Despite being very busy over the Easter weekend, the staff were very accommodating and managed to fit us in. The meal was excellent and good value, and the service excellent. We'll definitely return

After looking at a few restaurants we settled on Bar Rio and we’re glad we did. Fabulous place. Lovely greeting when we entered, given an option of tables (there were 7 of us) and an offer of high chair without having to ask. Drinks order was promptly taken and we were given time to peruse the menu. Great selection of food. Mainly Italian but also has a curry menu. Our younger children were offered paper and crayons which was a nice touch. We ordered pizzas and pasta dishes and I feel waiting time was in line with the time it takes in preparing and cooking a fresh dish. One of the best pizzas I have had, absolutely delicious. My husband was impressed with his pasta and our children loved their dishes. We will definitely return.

Went to the restaurant and was greeted by a very nice blond hostess. Ordered drinks and food. The service from the bald bartender was horrible. He did not care what we ordered, and just made drinks and gave them to us. Did not follow instructions charged us 11.00 pounds for a drink. Ordered a single shot of vodka and another drink arrived. I complained and he said I should have sent them back. We diddent want to have a bad time so we just delt with it. I mentioned the issue to him and he said to me it's only 25 pounds. This is typical of a bartender who does not like tourists and will over charge them whenever he can. I will not return.

Been here a few times and no matter how quiet it is the service is always so slow. Only two other tables in but only one menu available for us? And waited a good 25 mins for food. Then when the food came it was missing chips so I reminded the waitress. 5 mins later they appeared piping hot so they had obviously been forgotten and had to be made after I reminded her! Once I can understand but everyone we r there the food takes far too long!

Vine aquí con mi familia a cenar en una visita a Oban. El personal era amable y un buen servicio. Un montón de opciones para todos los gustos y un menú para niños. Todos teníamos pizza, hamburguesas y el curry y todos estábamos contentos con lo que conseguimos. Lo único que no me gustó fue el MTV en el fondo que mis hijos miraban constantemente, pero aparte de eso, un pulgar hacia arriba

We both opted for a pizza and weren’t disappointed. They were both delicious with plenty of topping. The young people serving were very approachable and checked we were happy with our meals.

Great food, lovely waitress and an amazing atmosphere. I had the steak pie and my boyfriend had a burger which were both perfect. Will definitely be one to re-visit when we are back in the area.

Having heard a few stories from ex employees about the kitchen staff (chef's washing themselves in kitchen sinks, drying off with a tea towel then using said tea towel to wipe food residue off knives and then cutting food) we did not eat here.. it's a good meeting place as it's central in town. But that's as much as I can muster when it comes to a one star review.

Nice place had the traditional Indian curry which came with rice and a man bread for £9.90 great value ask if there was mango Chutney which was brought to my table service was 1st class ask several times if all was okay

Wandering around Oban with friends, trying to choose somewhere to eat, but there's always somebody not happy with each restaurant proposed. Luckily, we could all find something to eat from Rio's menu. Rio pizza in my case.

Arrivée tardive à Oban, et seul restaurant encore ouvert un samedi soir. Il était pleins donc nous étions confiant. Pas de place, on nous fait patienter au bar, nous prenons un verre (bière locale), pas décu. Endroit assez branché, musique assez forte, télé avec clip musicaux, aux vues du nombre de jeunes on se dit que c'est THE place to be. ON se mets à table, les burgers défilent sur les tables à coté, j'en commande un. Résultats : hyper déçu... pain artisanal excellent, frites bonnes, mais viande... immangeable... ce n'était pas un steack mais.. une reconstitution de viande pour en faire un steak haché, vraiment dommage car tout le reste était top! Rapport qualité-prix assez bon tout de même.

The lasagne, if that what you can call it was terrible. The first time it was cold in the centre, second time you can see in the photographs, was missing the pasta and looked like the dog had, had ago. My burger was OK, my eldest sons pizza was fine, and my youngest sons spaghetti bolognese was poor.

service was very good,although some of the staff seemed a bit lost at times and didn't seem to know what other staff were doing in relation to taking food and drinks orders.food was lovely,we both had the steak pie.the only criticism being the portion was a bit too big for me! We booked here for our Christmas staff meal, we had off the Christmas 3 course menu. Well where do I start, we waited half an hour before we were even asked if we wanted any drinks. The place was freezing, when we finally got our drinks the lemonade was flat. All of our main courses were cold, the turkey was VERY dry and the beef looked like a piece of cardboard it was tough and dry. We sent most of our mains back for them to heat up in the microwave. The staff were slow on asking if we wanted any more drinks, did not ask at all how everything was at any point during or when leaving. The place wasn't even busy and no wonder as the service is poor, will NOT be coming back!

Spent two nights here in the Queen Victoria suite. Rooms were spotless, bed super comfy and the views from the bay window just stunning. Breakfast a little underwhelming, hence the four stars. Looking forward to our next visit in the very near future.

Revisé Rio hace 5/6 semanas y no fue mucho. Volvimos hoy, ya que somos visitantes regulares de Glasgow y me complace decir que fue mucho mejor. En cuanto a la comida, ambos fuimos por el pescado y las patatas fritas y fue hermoso. Bonita rebanada fresca de eglefino en una masa encantadora. Lo que sí quiero decir es que el personal fue brillante. Estaba muy ocupado, pero el señor que nos servía, creo que se llamaba Jim o Joe, nos encontró una mesa muy rápidamente y luego nos trasladó a otra que estaba disponible en la ventana.
