Rio Ristorante in Argyll & Bute

Found this place looking for somewhere that served vegan options on a Friday night in Dunoon. Had delicious penne with Quorn Bolognese and a salad. Both very nice! Service was good, the place was not too busy.

Arrived at the Rio early evening, Saturday 21st. Maitre d' straight away welcomed us and made us feel most welcome. The young chap and young girl, who were waiting on and serving,were an absolute delight! So friendly, helpful and happy!! The food was delicious and more than plenty! Thank you for most lovely dining experience! Especially as we had not booked and it was a Saturday evening. Kindest regards. Sally and Tom Walters.

Staff were rude when we asked if there was an outside table so we turned away and went elsewhere! Not a great start!

Went there four years ago and just found this review - I hadn't posted it 🙈. Food was really good and very reasonably priced as was the wine. Service could do with improvement, although when we pointed out the rare Steak had been cooked to well done it was taken away without and problems and replaced a few minutes later with a fresh one cooked to perfection. The Spicy Chicken wing's are to die for - I judge that dish against Gallagher's in Dublin and these were better!

Worst restaurant we've been to in several trips to Scotland. Music way too loud, Chef waiter was unfriendly and did not listen. He scolded his apprentices even though they did their job way better then he was. Customers left dissatisfied after their starters. Chlorine tap water being served (free of charge though)

Great view across the river. Friendly helpful staff. Food was ok, not great, but ok. Reasonable price and a varied menu.

Went to the buffet and it was lovely. Enjoyed the food a lot.

31/07/2024 we had dinner. The waiter was so angry, lack of support from his kitchen staff. Ranting and raving. Poor guy thankfully wasn't too busy

Restaurant is five minutes from my house and the food is ice cold. Aside from that the food was not gpod.

Great restaurant with charming and attentive service. The food was very tasty. The mussels were excellent and the pizza and pasta were also impressive. We were surprised that there was so little going on.

Visited tonight Saturday 11th May at 6pm. We hadn't booked but we're given a table, no problem. Great friendly, prompt service and delicious food, very tasty! Special thanks to the young lady waitress, very polite and helpful. 10/10. Thank you

Easter sunday & we managed to get a table without booking, food was lovely, nice clean restaurant & good service, would recommend.

Went here on a hunch, and the food was brilliant. Had a freshly made pizza, kids lasagna and a steak. Service was quick, food could have been served quicker but with how nice the food was we didn't mind at all.

Food is not great and a waiter accidentally spilled a drink all over me but never received a proper sorry. We even have to ask for towel and to replace my chair :))

Food was delivered on time and hot. Delivery driver was lovely. Everything was delicious. Portions very generous enough for lunch the next day! 10/10 will order again☺️

Do not waste your money, over 2.5 hours for delivery, undercooked chips, cold pizza with soggy under cooked pizza base. Binned the entire order as wasn’t edible

Late, cold and coagulated - what more do I need to say? Calzone which was stone cold in the middle! Breaded mushrooms were the end of an open bag and the start of another. They were overcooked, rock hard and inedible. My mother had to bash through the breading to try and find a lonely mushroom. Prawn cocktail (which was always good) lacked any kind of anything. It used to come with a slice of lemon and some tomato garnish. Same price - much less of anything. I knew what was coming when the Receptionist for the hotel (not the restaurant) said that the food was ready when I called and they were waiting for a driver. What is the point?? More fool me - so disappointed - again.

Christmas Dinner served but choices for those who didn't want a traditional meal. Service good, food was very generous and background music appropriate and at the right volume. Overall a very pleasant experience and will visit again now we know where they are.

Order was late and my Curry was a reheated Curry that they left the use by label on also had hlaf a tub or rice restaurant did replace the order admittedly.

Food was absolutely delicious. Much better than I had expected. Shame about the delivery time but is outside of restaurants control. Would 100% order from again.

Ordered at 730pm for a 810pm collection, food wasn't ready and was told it would be another 30 minutes. Just eat did say it would be a bit longer but hadn't given me a time. Got order at 845pm, short walk home only to realise the pizzas and garlic bread were stone cold and pizzas overdone. Pasta dishes were hot and were delicious.

Two pizzas for £22 takeaway at 6pm. Very good thin based pizzas. Thoroughly enjoyed them. Definitely order again.

Dined in on a Tuesday night. Beautiful pasta and pizza. Great service. Nice fresh breeze to feel relaxed.

I phoned to chase after delivery time had expired and was advised they had been very busy/inundated. If this was the case, they shouldn't have accepted the order or closed for Just Eat orders. Ordered just before 6.45pm, delivered after 9pm and food was abysmal. Garlic bread and pizza were burnt, chips were tough and over salted and my veg lasagne was just lasagne sheets, sauce and a mouthful of chopped veg, also only filled half the tub, for nearly £8 I'd expect It to be filled with veg and the tub filled. Bolognase had also had sweet chilli sauce or something added to it, bolognase is not supposed to be spicy! Waited hours, absolutely famished and now still hungry. Absolutely Gutted with this level of service. I would like to end on a positive and say the staff member I spoke to and the delivery driver were very good though.

Absolutely amazing dinner, staff made you feel welcome and couldn't do enough for you, restaurant was very clean and had a nice atmosphere about it. Definitely would go back here

Absolutely amazing food. The South Indian was amazing, but the tikka masala was even better, and the pizza was excellent. Everything bursting with flavour and rich and creamy. Only place in town I'll be getting Indian food from now on!

Order was over an hour late & was cold when it arrived. Cheesy garlic bread & chips where unbeatable rip off

Had our heart set on tapas since we have not had in ages but pulled there tapas menu ages ago and are not replacing in a hurry . Service is excellent staff helpful but missing a trick if you advertise it plz do it or you would have got a five star review

to start with it said that it had been delivered, but it had NOT, called the hotel and the restaurant TWICE to see where the food was. after being 30 mins late. after the 2 phone calls. the pizza has arrived looking stale dried out and looked like it had been touched once out for delivery. It was obvious slices had been taken . this was the FIRST time i have ordered from here. and WILL NOT be ordering again. on both ends from just eat to the restaurant. TERRIBLE. such a DISSPOINTMENT.

Delivered after more than 1hour, delivery service zero and food less than average. First time and last time.

Food was ok but limited ,very disappointed in the way it looks ,plastic table covers that were ripped and looked tatty,salt and pepper shakers covered in wax . Menu on line is diffrent to the menu they actually have . Its a shame as the ruo was one of my fav places to eat. Please go back to the way it use to be and look get rid of the plastic and have nothing at all but the actual table .

Rio used to be a fantastic place, but unfortunately after reopening their menu is greatly reduced, the food is of lower standard and the cost is well overpriced.

Pepperoni should be fresh not cured and heated. Otherwise it wasn’t terrible although with fresh ingredients this would be a killer calzone

Restaurant staff go over and beyond to make guests feel comfortable. Food is of good quality and the menu is not overwhelming.

Really yummy food and was delivered on time- only problem was they charged an additional £4 for delivery to innellan which we weren’t expecting. Made it an expensive dinner!

Didn’t get full order, phoned to ask if we could get what didn’t arrive and was told we would be phoned back which didn’t happen, only said that to get me off the phone, not the first time this has happened! Definitely won’t be back again disappointed in the service as usual ok paid £40 for our order and not happy that we didn’t get what we ordered, and it was 20 minutes late so we had to sit and wait for it also very poor service.

Super service. Wrong pizza but got a salad in the main time and a new pizza in 10 min! Super friendly! Good food too

Profiteroles were really nice. The spaghetti bolognese was lovely as well, especially the meatballs. :)

Food was awesome, just a shame that the restaurant doesn't honor the delivery charges advertised, instead taken payment and accepting order then calling to tell you that they want an extra £4 on top of the delivery charge or they will cancel order and you have to wait upto 5 days for a refund. Poor show. Won't be ordering for delivery again.

Got call half an hour after order to say there was no haggis pakora, so I asked for chicken. When it arrived only 3 bits of pakora, carbonara tasteless and no profiteroles, they arrived 40 minutes later after I called to advise. Very disappointed!

Really gone down hill since our first lockdown order which was amazing. We had the set meal for 2.The pakora was OK (though only 4 bits for 2 of us) but the chasni was to put it frankly disgusting. There was about 8 or 9 pieces of chicken and as many pieces of tomato in a sauce that tasted like the chef had emptied a full tube of tomato paste into it and thrown in a few spices for good measure. Certainly nothing like the first chasni we had from here, which was really nice, and it was barely enough for 2, though we weren't that bothered as it was so bad. The "nan" bread was 4 bits of hard what looked like pizza base. Again, the first time we had the large, soft nan that you get with a good meal. Come on guys, you can do so much better than this!

Food delivery was as stated and on time. However the food was very over cooked and not edible. Lasagne was really dry and bits burnt and the chips were very over cooked too. Really hard. Sorry to provide a review like this as the food usually is always excellent. Had to throw it out.

Ordered 2x pasta meals. One lasagne which tasted as if it had been frozen and reheated and also the cheese sauce on top was like jelly. The penne arabiatta was very spicy and almost inedible due to this

First time I've ordered from Rio and haven't been missing anything. Pizzas are ok, pasta was watery and tasteless, garlic bread for two was one bit cut in half with a bit of salad. Dissapointing

Food was good and arrived hot. Only criticism would be that it was missing the extras that I ordered and ore like just a pepperoni pizza rather than the mafiosa(too hungry to send it back) Apart from that it was okay

The amount of garlic in the dish made it inedible. It was very oily and hardly any filling. Calzones here used to be amazing but that was a let down. Won't be ordering again

Called up over the phone because I couldn’t sign into just eat order cost £33.40 on just eat over the phone he tried to charge over £37 for the same order plus there was only 3 tiny chicken wings not much to them that cost £5.95, pizza was good though

Placed order and knew it was £2.50 delivery charge, 5 mins before delivery they called to say it's an extra £5 as outside the boundary therefore £7.50 delivery!! They said just eat hadn't updated website. Then it was delivered but missing 1 pizza and 2 chips! They did deliver the rest half an hr later. Food was nice enough but wouldn't order again

Absolutely brilliant vegan pizzas. We ordered s vegan calzone as well and we're blown away! Cant even get vegan pizza that good in the city! 100% will order again. Thank you!

No social distancing. Far to many tables and people in the restaurant. Two male staff wearing their masks below their noses. Still happened even after complaining. They were touching their masks constantly and pulling them up whilst serving food. Why even wear a mask? Our friend on the next table was served burnt chicken wings. When they complained they expected fresh ones but got nothing. The garlic King praws on garlic bread turns out to be two prawns one on each slice of bread. Shocking for the money. Our table was booked for 6pm. They were only serving pizza and pasta. There was no pizza dough??? At 6pm? I was asked what else I wanted. Then an hour later I was asked what I wanted as no pizza dough. Three tables who came in after us were served pizzas. Our main meal was served at almost 8pm. I had cold prawn and chicken pasta with 4 praws. Very poor. We did complain but just a limp apology. The disabled toilet had tiles off the wall. Not very hygienic in these time. People were complaining. I didn't feel covid safe. I would avoid.

Terrible food, sent back to kitchen as the cheese had mould on it, when the dish came back it still had mould on it. Will defiantly never eat here again.

Pizza arrived cold because the delivery driver claimed he knocked on my door but got no answer. As soon as the app said my food was out for delivery, I stood at my front door to answer the door before it was knocked and stop my dog from going bananas (as she does every time my door is knocked). I never heard my door being knocked, even though I was stood at the other end of it) and neither did my dog. The food wasn't worth the money, and they price mostly everything 50 pence under the minimum spend so you need to buy something extra to get delivery. Absolute con. Won't buy from this place again. Caveat emptor...

Myself and 2 daughters visited the Rio and were offered a table straight away even though we did not book. Service was excellent from the waiter and the lady who helped bring food out. Food was amazing one the best pizza i have tryed and daughter also mentioned how good it was so asked other daughter and she said spag bol was brilliant. Thank you all at Rio stay safe 🏅👍

Ordered pizza, pasta, pakora, garlic bread, and onion rings. Pizza and pasta were both excellent. This is your standard takeaway pizza, this is great restaurant quality pizza. Pasta was also very good. Chicken pakora was genuinely the best I've had. It was tender, moist, crisp and well-spiced. Onion rings and garlic bread were okay, not the best. But, the main part of the meal were faultless so can't complain. Seriously good food, highly recommended.

Fantastic meal last night with the family.

Okay. Disappointed in Mac n cheese. Too much thin sauce and definitely not made with macaroni. Chips not great.

Loved it! Food was absolutely delicious and you can tell everything was freshly made. The mozzarella sticks are to die for! 🧀 The staff were incredibly polite and attentive, service was great. Would highly recommend visiting!

The fish was "ok" , the chips were awful. They were not thoroughly cooked, not very hot. Where have the lovely crisp outer fluffy inside chips gone these days? I was so looking forward to a meal I hadn't had to cook myself for 2 months, all I can say is, I'll not order from Rio again.

The food was average. Not up to the standard that I would expect if eating in the restaurant but that is to be expected. It arrived on time and reasonably hot and was safely delivered without contact.

Absolutely disgusting never heard of a chef that doesn’t know how to make southern fried chicken then they phone you and try to justify it also pizza was all in one corner of the box and had to wait for a new one poor effort when normally ok
