An unassuming looking restaurant that doesn’t even hint at the superb cooking from Rick Gibbs. It’s been there since 2001 but we only just heard about it. An excellent Sunday roast accompanied by great wine. We’ll be back 😊

Came in for a first visit. Was given a great table by very welcoming staff. It was "Steak Tuesday", so ordering was simple. Delicious rib-eyes. Blueberry brulee was a delicious and dramatic dessert, with the lovely smoke of caramelisation. Good cocktails. Wait staff were professional and attentive. Setting is cute

We've been here twice now and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times. The service has been friendly, and sometimes Rick himself comes front of house to say hello. The wine list is short but good, and there a few beers and ciders too, plus spirits. Most importantly, Rick and his colleagues can really cook with flair, with every dish we've had being first-class.

My bill says Rick's Restaurant, but it's the same place! Nice unassuming cosy place packed with wall art. Small joint seating probably 20 on various sized tables. We shared a couple of starters - crayfish and a seafood salad, and then our mains were grilled prawns, ravioli, lamb's kidneys (don't see them enough), and seabass. 2 bottles of Albarino at £36 and the whole meal for 4 eaten at leisure but without any great waits was £200 or so.

This cosy restaurant away from the bustle of Tooting Broadway, is South London's biggest secret. I have lived in Balham and Tooting for decades and never heard of it. With tables arranged for two, three, or six people, a charming French waiter and a busy crew, visible beyond the bar in the kitchen, this looked like the real deal. We started with boquerones and liver parfait and went on to bavette, chips and gravy, as it was steak Tuesday. This came with a complimentary glass of red wine - a decent brew from the South of France. Food, wine and service Service was personal, charismatic, and attentive, though the waiter did forget to substitute chips for mashed potato for my wife who ordered the brill. And the brill was brilliant. With a lemon, sage, and butter sauce this was one of the outstanding dishes of the night. My bavette was a thin and bashed cut, perfectly cooked to be pleasantly enjoyed unhindered by gristle. Topped with a pepper source and accompanied by demi-glace based gravy, and thick double cooked chips, it really hit the spot. And for £16.50 including the glass of red wine, this represented good value. The wine list had some chunky prices on with most reds being £30 - £40 which did not seem to fit in with the local clientele’s budget. I noticed no bottles being served the night we were there, as the 15 or so people in the place with there for value on a Tuesday, and not an expensive blowout. Atmosphere With green walls, a dense collection of gold framed paintings depicting vegetables, landscapes and French buildings, Rick’s Dining Room had a genuine warm feel, that could have matched dining experiences in a mid-sized French town. Add a negroni, a beer and a tip and we paid £80. That is at the upper end for Tooting but in the lower zone compared with Central London. I would recommend that you come and try this place if you find yourself on the Northern Line, practise your French with the waiter, and chat the evening away with your dining companion(s), knowing that you'll be well looked after and that the food is the real deal.

Rick's has been by some distance the best restaurant in Tooting for many many years. Rick is a superb chef sourcing only the best ingredients and whose cooking is far above the average. The restaurant is not large and always full - buzzy and a pleasure - and Rick himself will usually come and make himself known to you. I cannot recommend it too strongly. The meat comes from Ginger Pig, the fish by special van - I urge you to sample the Shetland Clams. David Solomon

My favourite South London restaurant, its cosy with a nice relaxed atmosphere run by Rick the chef and owner who is very welcoming alongside his other hard working staff. The food is all homemade, using quality produce and very tasty! Went there for dinner with my girlfriend and we were delighted with the lovely atmosphere, the friendly homely welcome and most importantly, the delicious food and wine on offer, all at fantastic value. Do yourself a favour and visit if you're up for unpretentious and genuine service. I don't review places often and I think Rick's deserves a lot more credit than it seems to get. It's an unassuming local gem in a city where there is a lot of overpriced generic dross on offer.

Having had aperitifs in the Goldfinch bar over the road my wife and I nipped in Rick's via Tesco's cash machine so as to ensure we had enough cach on us to pay the bill, only to find that Rick takes cards now! We've visited Rick's a couple of time recently having become refugees from a previous favourite. We were immediately greeted by Rick who came out of the kitchen to tell us about some specials on his menu, one of which was skate knobs to start, which I ordered and were delicious. My wife had one of her favourites - Buratta and figs. For our main courses I ordered brill, which when it arrived was very easily enough for two and I reckon could have fed four. So we decided to share it. Rick had cooked it to perfection and it was fantastic. Having shared the brill we then had to deal with the ribeye steak that my wife had ordered for her main. Already feeling rather stuffed we decided to share that as well. It was a beautifully cooked steak and very tasty served with an outstanding pepper sauce. After such a feast we needed a rest before we ventured on to the dessert menu - we both opted for peaches poached in mildly spiced Prosecco, which was very refreshing and the perfect finish to a wonderful meal. Overall it was a great night out aided and abetted by Rick's superb cooking and excellent and friendly service from front of house.

Me and a group of friends had a lovely dinner at Ricks and if I was just rating this restaurant on the food we had, the atmosphere and value for money then I certainly would have. So why the reduced score, it took nearly 2 hours from us sitting down to us getting our main courses. I appreciate that sometimes you just want to relax and take your time but by 10pm we were all pretty hungry. The other downside was that out of 5/6 main courses, 2 weren't available which was very disappointing. The service was friendly but we had to ask to order a couple of times and then chase the coffees which appeared to have been forgotten. This impacted on the overall night. Would be happy to return to this local, independent restaurant if they could iron out these things.

I've not been in to RIck's Café in Tooting for a few years, and was pleased at the tapas and Spanish-leaning menu, which is very different to a few years ago when I last visited. The food was delicious (although the almond tart could have been a bit more moist, and would have been better paired with vanilla ice cream, not chocolate, in my opinion). The steak was good, the tapas selection delicious and the mini gazpacho appetiser was lovely.Sadly the service was not great, and the restaurant wasn't even full, being a Monday evening. We were there early and still had to wait to order, to get the dessert menu and then to get the bill. No one likes to be rushed, but there wasn't a "flow" to the service; we got the impression that things were not really "in control", with just one person in the kitchen, and the server.

Dined here this evening. A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. Already booked to return. We were greeted and shown to our table. The restaurant is small so booking is advisable. I have a wheat flour allergy which I had informed the restaurant of when booking in advance by 24 hours, and they bent over backwards to accommodate this. Manu explained the menu in detail and explained what I could have and couldn't have. He had even gone to the trouble of getting in gluten free bread, so thank you so so much for this. The service was excellent and the food didn't disappoint. The tapas to start with was great and the sea bass for mains was to die for, it simply melted in the mouth. I tried to order a dessert, which I was really looking forward to, but they were up front and honest and said it was a no go area for me tonight with my allergy, and I thank them immensely for their honesty. The place filled up quickly with those who had reserved, sadly, some had to be turned away, but the popularity of this place does not surprise me, it is worth every penny and more.We didn't need a Plan B! this evening, because we wholeheartedly enjoyed Plan A Manu, so thank you so much to you, and to everyone, and we very much look forward to seeing you again on March 18th at 8pm. A massive thank you to you all, including the chefs beavering away in the background.

t was a shock to find just how good the new chef is when we returned to this old Tooting favourite. The special the evening we went was Halibut with langoustine. Wow was it good! fresh, moist,, flavourful, it was a dish well above the restaurant class Rick's usually sits in. if it had been Gordon Ramsay it would have cost £40 for the dish and could have tasted no better. We'll be back.

Always been a favourite and yet again had a top night. Lovely relaxed atmosphere , excellent and personal service. The food is such good value. We shared tapas which were all great. We had 6 for 4 of us and could have had 9 as they are quite small. We all had different mains and everyone was delighted with theirs. My pork was superb. Puddings were good too. I had Sticky Toffee which wasn't the best. Both the brûlée and an interesting coffee dessert were better. A great Aussie red wine at £28 was delicious too. All in all a fabulous restaurant. It's a little out of the way but definitely worth the visit.

Everytime I'm back in the UK I find an excuse to go to Rick's. I absolutely love this place! The menu is small but creative and is based on what is fresh or in season. The service is excellent, portions generous, wine good and you can taste the love and passion that goes into the food.Be warned that they only take cash - there's a cash machine across the road.

Being a local and tried out most the places within a 10 min, Ricks is far the bestThe reason- A good and reasonably priced menu ~£8 for most breakfast dishes. You will get this as the other hip breakfast spots with the reclaimed wood decor, eclectic tastes on the breakfast favourites are now £10 - 12 - Good English Breakfast - Excellent smoked haddock cakes with hollandaise sauce - Good coffee (admittedly not the best but I am very picky)- Great service with a smile The bonus is, - It is not usually super busy on the weekend - It is not full of young hungover kids If you appreciate a quite spot, the lack of the long queue out the door, the enforced 12.5% service charge when the service is terrible then Rick's is definitely a gem for breakfast.

The restaurant is quite small and has an open kitchen so can imagine if the restaurant full it would get extremely hot, it was half full only when we were there on a Saturday night. The waiter or could be owner/manager was very friendly and made sensible recommendations from the menu for us. The choice on the menu isn't huge with the starters being a selection of tapas except for Serrano ham or oysters. We found dishes to suit and were really impressed with the food, everything was delicious, the only blip being that our mains arrived before our starter plates were cleared. Other than that we had a lovely evening and will definitely return.

My friend and I came here a few weeks ago for some wine and tapas after work. It's a very welcoming, cosy restaurant with a great selection of wines, tapas and mains. The menus are printed daily depending on specials, which is a lovely touch. We were both really happy with our food, but even more so with the service - extremely attentive without being overbearing, allowing us to gossip away undisturbed yet at the same time never left waiting. The place was fairly quiet when we arrived but bustling by the time we left, so obviously has a great reputation in the area already. We'll be back.

Having gone past this place many times on the way to grocery shopping was very curious to visit and it did not dissapoint. Visited mid evening on a Saturday and space for walkins - wine was surprisingly good for the price and food (we shared tapas) was interesting and tasty. One of the waiters was fantastic (one of the best we have seen in ages) and questioned weather he was part of the management/ownership but never got round to asking as he was busy. One of the other waitresses was pretty poor and a bit awkward. We will defiantly be re-visiting and any locals thinking of coming I give it a go - not too bad for tooting!

Found myself in the area while meeting some friends and remembered I had already popped in long time ago. It is as welcoming as I remember. From the minute we walked in we were welcomed in a very friendly way. Quick on the buzz the menus presented and drinks offered ( check out house cocktail: Kumquat Negroni... Delicious!!! ) The menu changes daily as the Manager explained only a small amount of portions prepared each service. The wonderful choices of Tapas and main courses options made it hard to choose and suited every palate. Quality at its best. The whole experience was wrapped up by the wonderful music played in the background. Highly recommended. Ricks defenetely stands out from all other places in Tooting. Great atmosphere. Gracias

Ricks wine tasting evenings are exciting feasts with five courses paired with 5 wines. This month Jose was the sommelier. He brought a range of Spanish wines. The chefs prepared a range of tapas raging from rabbit to ox cheeks marinaded in raisins and chocolate Yum! There was do much food we took done home. All ten of us loved the whole evening. We have been vining since Ricks opened nearly 20 years ago. It just gets better and better

We were 4 for dinner on a Friday night during the Tooting Bec festival Tootopia. Ricks had been highly recommended by a few friends and this was our chance to see what all the fuss was about.Ricks is one of those restaurants that you know you are going like as soon as you walk in. No more than 30 covers total with a kitchen in plain view and legs of Jamón ibérico hanging from the ceiling. Emanuel came to the table to offer menus and describe the specials. He was confident and knowledgeable and I decided that it was worth taking a risk. I handed him the menus and said, "Bring us food and drink". He was a bit surprised - but quickly understood and that was that.We had a heavenly gazpacho shot for a palette cleanser followed by a meat platter. For a first course we had appetizers of chili and garlic prawns, croquettes, pulpo turrine with kimchi, whitebait and olives. For mains we had pork belly (unlike any porkbelly you've ever had before), monkfish cheeks and roast rump of lamb. And for desert was sticky toffee pudding and apple/blackberry crumble. (Some of these may sound like British staples, but the fresh ingredients and preparation made them really stand out.Top marks for the chef and the kitchen team as well as front of house.Be sure to check out this amazing find in up and coming Tooting Broadway area in London.

Now I live nearly an hour away it's a bit far to go often but tonight I decided I would go back since I was in the area. The food was tasty and the presentation and service were great.Starter, three tapas plates and a large wine £24. Well worth it because it was so flavoursome, especially the soft shelled crab and the pork belly.

We were looking forward to dinner as a family in a restaurant with decent European food. Unfortunately they have changed the decor from what’s in the pictures to something much cheaper, which was a shame. Then we were presented with a Bar Menu for dinner with only burgers and sandwiches for dinner in a restaurant. Disappointed, we carried on and ordered the Chicken Burgers, one was burnt and one had the wrong sauce. They kindly took them back but then replaced them with what looked like the same burgers. The prices were also extremely high - restaurant prices for bar food! Unfortunately we won’t be back.

The restaurant is located directly on the Thames and has a circular floor to ceiling glass layout. The ground floor is essentially a coffee shop that serves meals and the first floor is a restaurant. An ideal place for a relaxed meal. Good food, friendly staff, and excellent views of the river. The breakfast pancakes are not to be missed.

Went for a birthday celebration. Our usual dining preference is a definite cuisine with homestyle cooking and no pretension. Once a year or so we do a fine dining option. She is vegetarian, I am less fussy. I am a good home cook, she works in the restaurant trade and we are sympathetic to current difficulties. We didn’t need to be so here; OK so I usually blench at the sight of a man tweezering food and waitstaff that serves the first course with “Let’s start our journey”,; it often signals a night of pretension and not much else, but this was excellent cooking and service to back it up. There is a £65 four course menu and a £85 tasting menu incl a veg option. We had the 4 course. Yes the portions are small, its not quite the ‘bag of chips on the way home’ scenario but its not gluttony either and ‘langoustine’ is exactly what it says. One langoustine, £15 additional option, doubtless because of the dab of caviar on the top of it, but it was the most perfectly cooked specimen I have ever had. They don’t travel well and often past their best before they arrive at a kitchen. The brioche melted in the mouth, the risotto was al dente but not raw and the parmesan crisp on top of it had obviously taken a lot of work, a sea bream ceviche was seriously fresh and beautifully balanced. The monkfish delicate and moreish. The wine list is expensive but that’s how it is these days – deal with it. The (presumably) head chef with the tweezers had obviously put in a lot of hard work in prep before he picked them up. Watching the kitchen staff in the open kitchen you saw zero macho heroics and a lot of surefooted care. The room wasn’t full all night and so I cannot vouch for the noise level past that, but mercifully no-one had turned up a ‘curated’ playlist. Service was attentive without being obsequious; you don’t usually get a recommendation for a Ukrainian ‘shots bar’ at the post dinner chat – we will check it out on a less refined evening. Really enjoyed it, you would be hard pressed to find better at this style of cooking and certainly not at this price level. Definitely worth a visit. Damn fine stuff.
