I am very happy with the quality and service.

I ordered for delivery and had the garlic butter chicken with mushroom rice, and garlic mushrooms. The curry and rice were nice, but the garlic mushrooms were strangely very sweet. A little disappointing.

Staff were friendly and the food was sublime. Absolutely perfect meal. Thank you.

Stayed in Scarborough for a couple of nights and decided to get a takeaway from here, absolutely amazing food is an understatement, I’m well travelled and had plenty of Indian food in my 50 years but this was without doubt the nicest place I’ve eaten from in the uk, very reasonably priced, all plates were cleared which is unheard of within my family. 100% recommend, I can’t comment on the staff nor the restaurant interior as my cousin nipped in to pick the food up, but I promise this is the nicest Indian food you will experience, gutted it’s not my local takeaway but saying that I’d pile the weight on if it was..the residents of Scarborough are lucky to have this place.

Visited after a recommendation from family and were not disappointed. We only had Korma but it was beautiful and the staff were very nice. We even contemplated going back a few days later. Now visited twice and the service is still amazing and the food even better.

This is an update from a previous visit...a year ago. Yes, this restaurant is still brilliant Superb quality food, not expensive.either. Friendly staff. Very good indeed.

20/06/24 I am really sorry to say we went this evening for dinner. The greeting we received was ok. As we ordered my son was asked if we liked spicy food, to which he replied that we do, a dish was recommended, as it was a mix of chicken, lamb, prawn & mushrooms we declined, sticking to our orginal order. We ordered a vegetable platter and a tetuly chicken as our starters. Most of mine was edible apart from a cauliflower pakora which was soggy & doughy. My son enjoyed his although he did say it was very sweet. For mains we both chose a chicken tikka pathia with rice & naans. The pathia was very disappointing. The dish is described as hot, sweet & sour, this is a dish we have ordered and enjoyed many times previously. However, what was served was overly sweet & lacked any depth of flavour. The chicken bared no resemblance to chicken tikka, it seemed more like pre-cooked frozen chicken breast and as a result was dry and overcooked. Eventually, about 20 mins after we had finished, leaving half of each dish, we were asked if we wanted to take what was left away. I did say that we found it to lack taste & mentioned how sweet it was, almost like a chicken derssert, only to be told we should have said that when ordering we liked it spicy. On paying the bill, this was reiterated, and we were further blamed for picking a mild dish, despite us trying to explain that we have had the Chicken Tikka Pathia many times before and the very same waiter that was taking payment, having been the one that asked us if we like spicy food and my son saying clearly "yes we like it very spicy"; we were still told that we were wrong in everything we were saying, regardless of the menu clearly stating it was hot, sweet and sour and listed seperately from the 'mild section'. We were then asked where we live, as if where we live has any bearing on how we like our food and making me wonder if we were served sub par food as it was assumed we weren't local and wouldn't be revisiting. After this evening's experience I would not recommend, if not due to the disapointing food but for the unprofessional way in which it was handled, we will not be returning, which is sad as you can see from my previous review, which I have left below, our experience tonight falls a long way short. The Previous Review; Three of us ate here this evening and thoroughly enjoy it. The staff are lovely, friendly, chatty and professional. Our food was delicious. My son was very happy with the keema rice as the meat was quite chunky. My daughter barely said a word, which I can tell you is a sign that she was enjoying her meal. My daughter and I shared a garlic rice, it was light and fluffy and gorgeously garlicky. My main, which I can't remember what it was called was super, really fresh and full of lemon flavours. This wasn't my first visit and it won't be out last. Highly recommended. .

Nice, good quality curry. Don't be put off by the outside appearance, nice inside. Attentive staff. Was busy but managed to squeeze us in, always a good sign if it's booked up. Went here again in June 24. Still lovely food. Service was a little slow but they had a lot of takeaway orders. 10% discount for cash!

Very surprised at how wonderful the food tasted. The service was prompt, polite spot on. It was quiet although it was a Tuesday night with a group of 8 and another two couples. Will definitely be using this restaurant again.

Lovely staff and very posh. Reasonable prices and absolutely delicious food. Four of us ate and were very pleased with the bill. Courteous, pleasant staff. Nice atmosphere and Privacy from other tables. We definitely recommend and will return.

Nice spot for a curry. Went early doors and pleasantly surprised some people were also in. Food was very good. Pay cash and save 20%!. Draught cobra was defo average though.

Great Indian restaurant. Make sure to bring cash as you get 20% of your bill if you pay by cash The food was delicious. I ordered the spiciest thing on their menu and would you believe it, it was actually spicy. Their popadoms are delicious as well. For restaurant prices it is quite average, but getting 20% just for paying by cash is a big W for me

We visited here why on holiday for a few days, what great food and service we had, I'm only sorry it's not my local curry house! The food was really good quality the service was fast and efficient with 20% off the bill if you paid cash 😀 cash is KING.

Prompt delivery by very stressed driver. Prawn puri seemed to be a chapatti with a box of bland, overcooked prawns. Dahl very very bland. Fish bhuna also bland and unseasoned. Spinach and rice were Ok. A great disappointment and my first Indian takeaway in Scarborough. What a shame.

Wouldn't try anywhere else in Scarborough now after finding this Indian. The food is always so tasty.

You can taste the food is cooked fresh. The flavours are amazing you can taste the spices without being overwhelmed with one flavour/ heat. The service and people are very pleasant. Thank you.

On Friday 6 of us had a takeaway delivered to our holiday rental. We hadn't planned on using this restaurant as we had a leaflet for elsewhere but they didn't deliver. We ordered 6 mains, some sides, a couple of rice and various bread. It came to £80, it was delivered within 30 mins, it was hot, tasty, fresh and cash on delivery. I can't thank the restaurant enough and I highly recommend for takeout.

Been here twice food is delicious and tasty will deffo be back again. Scarborough has loads of Indian resturants but this one is by far the best in town.

Definitely gone down hill and won't be eating here again! Never tasted such bland food! Even the poppadoms were soggy, most of it went in the bin! I won't be recommending this place.

Just had a bad experience, I was not happy with the food I ordered. The chicken tikka masala was like tomato soup. The lamb masala it didn’t taste nice at all we was very worried what we was eating, it didn't taste like lamb it tasted like another meat or gone off.

Mr Hussain looked after us amazing, very good experience, the food was super, cant fault the service and would not hesitate to dine here again

We were a party of 8 and had a fabulous time at this lovely restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their starter and mains were delicious too. Staff were all attentive and chatty which was really nice. Often walked past this place ,but didn't venture inside because it didn't look very inviting from the outside ! So glad some friends recommended it and we decided to book. Certainly one of Scarborough 's hidden jewels and the nicest onion bhajis I've had in years. Thankyou for a lovely evening!!

Went on a Wednesday night - food was top notch Service was fantastic and music wasn't too loud but just nice ambient Staff were all very friendly

I have just came from this restaurant the food quality was zero i asked for a asian style dry curry he suggested a bhuna what I got was a curry sauce with lamb was not cooked at all i asked him this is not a bhuna he said im stressed its been so busy its not my fault is that a reason for the food not to be right Avoid at all cost if you want good food

This is the third time we have been here whilst visiting Scarborough the last couple of weeks. We always manage to get a table. Staff are welcoming, and the food is delicious. The only 2 issues were the diet coke is flat and warm and the price. We were charged more for less food than what we normally have and more than what the menu prices state. For that reason, we will not be returning

Eat here often. Both in and takeaway. The curry is of an exceptional level and if your a bit daft in the head the lime pickle is awesome! I won't order from anywhere else for takeaway.. Well ,not for Indian anyway. I don't order my pizza from here obviously.. that would just be a bit wrong wouldn't it. Plus they don't sell pizza.. it's an Indian, Richard!

I would highly recommend and praise enough. I was in Scarborough 13th to 15th July 2023 and eat at Rice & Spice everyday. The food was excellent the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the service was brilliant. I even asked for certain things to cooked in a special way and they were very obliging.

Never eaten in the restaurant but always get takeaway from here .. foods always tasty fresh and delivery is always within the hour.

Don't let the 1 star reviews put you off , go try for yourself . We loved it

I hate leaving a bad review, but I can only be honest. This review isn't great.. Maybe this place is better on the weekend. The previous reviews compared to what my partner and I experienced don't add up. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an army of flies before being seated. If it wasn't for the torrential rain, I don't think we would have gone in as it just doesn't look welcoming. The first thing we noticed was how poor the atmosphere was, no life in the restaurant, no music playing. The restaurant was almost empty. 18:30 pm on a Wednesday night in the holiday season, you'd expect it to have some life. We were served by two waitors, who both kept repeating the same questions, we had to say we've already said we've brought our own drinks, it was really awkward. Then they both asked us if we wanted poppadoms. By the time our poppadoms had arrived, there were so many fruit flies hovering around our table it was just annoying. Between the flies, the awkward service, and the grim atmosphere, we decided to ask for takeaway service as the previous reviews had mentioned how good the food is. They happily allowed us to order takeaway instead, but I was slightly annoyed that the waitor still wanted to charge us for bringing our own drinks, even though we hadn't opened them. They didn't charge us, but he tried. We got back to our caravan with the food, and I don't have anything good to say about it. The chicken tikka masala was very sweet, almoat had a fruity flavour, and the chicken tikka biryani was very bland. The chicken was quite tough, the kind of toughness you get when it's been re-heated. Adding spice wouldn't have made it taste better. There was just an obvious lack of flavour to the food. The only part of the meal I can compliment would be the rice and the lime pickle. The rest just doesn't cut it, and I couldn't order from here again. It just isn't anywhere near as good as what we are used to at home.

I'am a great lover of excellent Indian cuisine. Been to a number of superb restaurant's in the Newcastle area trying different dishes. This place is a must go to establishment up with the best. I tried the recommended Haandi Bhuna Lamb on Tuesday 27 June 2023. It is there with the best tender succulent lamb dishes you will ever taste. Great service, great atmosphere and you can eat at leisure without being rushed with your food as in some other restaurants. Give it a go if you are in the area, you will not be disappointed. Going back to visit relatives in November this year and I will definitely will be visiting this excellent restaurant again.

One of the best Indian food I’ve ever had in UK (though I had specifically asked for spicy food). And when I say the taste was great, believe me it was awesome, as I’m an Indian. Ambience was so-so but the food taste and quality was muah! I found real NAAN here and not the tesco/aldi BREAD! The portion size of starters was not great but it was okay considering the prices. The TRP of this restaurant is they let you carry your own booze with you for just £1/person! This thing was one of its own and I haven’t seen anything like this in any of the places in Britain. We carried whiskey and beers and they provided the glasses & ice. Too good to be true! Only thing I felt not upto the mark was hospitality of the staff members. They didn’t seem to be welcoming or approachable. They were rather rude and unpleasant. If that gets sorted out, I’d love to visit them again!

Properly to worst food we have had in a long time. The poppadoms were burnt the buttered chicken tasted of just cream , the chicken jalfrezi just tasted of onions also they left of the naan breads.

Lovely staff very polite & helpful along with fantastic food, lamb was perfectly tender & everything was flavoursome without being over bearing.

Excellent curry house loved it so much been twice whilst we are in Scarborough for a few days.

Waited 1 hour 40 minutes for my food to arrive. Spent 15 minutes on the phone to the delivery driver because he was lost. Sheek kebab and keema naan were rubbish. Salad bag was open and spilled. Only give 2 stars because the garlic chilli chicken was decent.

Tried it after it was recommended by people we met in Scarborough. The atmosphere was good, very friendly staff, the waiter was particularly funny. First Indian restaurant experience for me, was expecting hot hot hot. Just ordered the recommended platter for 2, literally nothing was all that spicy, just delicious, not too pricey either. Definitely recommend.

Lovely restaurant with beautiful food. We got a set meal for 2 which didn't disappoint there was more food than we could eat and it all tasted delicious and for 2 with drinks came to just under £45. Would highly recommend.

I've never had an authentic Indian meal before, so I was looking for places to try! Rice and Spice is definitely now one of my favourite places to dine. We had a takeaway last night, I went in and asked what would be recommended for a vegan and I was talked through a vegetable dish ideal for me with the amount of heat I wanted. The rest of the food was spot on, with it being a first my family and I wanted to sample a few things. Will definitely be coming back as the food was delicious, piping hot, and great portions

Xmas day, great food from the menu, no silly Xmas mark up.

Order from this place quite frequently and the food is always lovely (except the chips which are always undercooked) however, ordered from them this evening and the person on the phone was extremely rude and tried to over charge us. When we added up the cost of our food they had tried to charge us almost five pound extra and when we called back to bring this up, the person on the phone tried to give us 2 different excuses as to why we were wrong. During the first phone call he claimed that he had given us 10 percent discount and yet when he finally decided to add up the cost again, it was in fact because he didnt give us the discount at all. Due to the fact that we then called him out on it he finally admitted the price was wrong. There was no apolagy and he in fact seemed annoyed about the situation as he was again extremely rude and was very quick to end the call. This Is not the first time this particular person has been rude on the phone. In the end we decided to cancel the order worried the food would come tainted. Food from here is nice but the customer service needs some work hence the 1 star.p

Best food I have ever had in a restaurant

I found this curry restaurant & takeaway just by walking past it. Staff customer service skills were excellent. Great selection of different Currys, rices, nan bread etc . Didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes for my takeaway order. You get a lot for your money. On a Sunday evening it was the only takeaway I found open in Scarborough. Yes I would return to this takeaway & restaurant next time I'm in Scarborough

A very unassuming restaurant, but the food makes up for it!! We’re from Bradford so know a good curry when we eat one. The chicken madras and South Indian lamb was excellent. Very decent price too. The waiter had a sense of humour which was nice. The waitress was very nice too. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you’re visiting Scarborough.

First of all , I doubt, it's not a Indian restaurant!!! The behavior & hospitality is pathetic...I would not say it all in the restaurant but one specific guy stating the Manager, who takes the orders( Bangladesh national) was very rude and doesn't no how to behave with the customers at all.. Very bad experience 😂 Food was ok... Those who intend to visit ...kindly check twice before you move in.

Great experience. Food amazing and staff really accommodating. Chicken tikka jalfrezi was beautiful, I asked for a garlic chapati but they didn't have that on the menu but the waiter asked the chef and he made it to perfection. Would highly recommend this place and I will be returning on my next trip to Scarborough.
