Rice Republic in Lambeth

Rice Republic is gorgeous. The food (and wine) was delicious. The restaurant has a cool and intimate atmosphere. Staff were super friendly and attentive and the meal was great value for money. I would definitely recommend Rice Republic and hope to return soon.

Can only agree with just about all other 5 star reviewers, amazingly good for a humble local Chinese eatery. We had the pork, sweet/sour chicken and springs rolls. All were excellent.

Lovely chinese restaurant on the southern side of London. I went there twice during my solo trip since the food was so delicious (i do recommend the sichuan chicken, so flavourful) The atmosphere is quite reserved and relaxed with some jazzy music to accompany the meal and the staff is very friendly and kind. Will definitely visit them again if i'll get the chance!

Little Hidden gem that’s been in Streatham high street for many years. Dumplings amazing and the Kungpoa chicken with steam rice, outstanding. I was too busy eating to take photos, definitely worth another visit soon. The atmosphere was lovely, enjoyed the jazzy background playlist. Staff was friendly, service was not rushed at all, was just so comfortable. Cute little date night spot in the neighborhood. Thanks again, Leo DiCaprio 😄

Waited 90mins for delivery of a small 2 person order on a Wednesday night (from less than a mile distance). Ordered directly via Rice Republic website, so no tracking available and business phone automatically hangs up - no way of contacting to check order status. Awful service.

Quaint, friendly restaurant offering fresh, delicious food. Menu is concise and it doesn't shy away from boasting about their quality dim sum. Ordered a 2 course meal after getting recommendation from staff. Also the atmosphere and music were a hit. The Kon Sen prawn is a must! Will visit again.

We had such a good meal. I even forgot to take pictures. The food came piping hot. The restaurant has such a nice ambiance and lovely staff.

A real hidden gem that might be the best restaurant in Streatham. Since first stumbling on this place a couple of months ago we've been back a number of times and each one has been a real treat. Would definitely recommend paying them a visit for some delicious and authentic Chinese food at the earliest opportunity! :)

This is our favourite place to eat in Streatham. The mushroom and XO Prawn dim sum are incredible. We always go a bit crazy in here and order far too much food as it is so delicious so we always spend more money than we need to. Great service too. Highly recommend. We go as a family treat every 3 months!

I have been here a number of times. Rice Republic is a good few notches better than your average Chinese, and very reasonable price wise. Great atmosphere too. I think this is the best Chinese in Streatham right now. Highly recommended!

Well, my only complaint is that we took way too long to try Rice Republic ! I called last minute to arrange a table and the staff member was so accommodating on the phone. The restaurant had such a warm and cosy atmosphere that evening and the waiter was truly superb. Hats off to the chef as each dish was fresh and packed full of flavour. Delicious 👌! Recommend the mushrooms buns and sticky shredded beef .

We had a fantastic experience last night! Probably the best handmade dumplings I've had- such a hidden gem in Streatham! Squid salt and chilli was also divine. Staff were super welcoming, attentive and friendly. Definitely going back to work our way through the menu!

NEVER AGAIN I'M AFRAID - - - There was an eyelash embedded inside the mushroom bun I ordered online and had delivered. This is the kind of stuff you worry about. Hygiene and cleanliness is most important and they have failed. They don't use deliveroo, just eat, uber eats but their own website so I couldn't even claim a refund. The food quality is nothing special at all. I don't know why everyone says it's so good when it is average at best. I will drive a little further away and go to THE very best Chinese takeaway food place which is in Purley Way.

Hadn’t been here for a good few years, but will be back very soon. Food was very good, dim sum dishes excellent. We had the seafood ones and some pork buns, all were as good as you get anywhere. Main course are limited and the menu could do with a noodle side dish, just steamed rice on offer. All in all though an enjoyable meal with nice service and a lovely environment (though personally not convinced by the round tables but maybe they are a space saver. Wine list offers a good selection.

Usually RR is incredible, a complete cut above other Asian-food restaurants in both presentation and taste. But as the prices normally reflect the quality, we limit this to treat days once or twice a month on weekend days. Today, we ordered at 7pm on a Tuesday and you wouldn’t know it’s the same restaurant. Food was stodgy, tasted reheated and generic & presentation was awful (and in foil tins which isn’t the norm for this place). I don’t know if they’re “farming out” to a dark kitchen in the week but tonight’s offering seriously dented our former perception of the brand. I seriously hope this was a one off and not their way forward, be such a shame to lose a gem like this in South London.

Four of us for dinner. Absolutley delicious. Dim sum like this? In Streatham? Madness. Few dodgy reviews on here but ignore the picky eaters, the apparent food critics and wander past, eat here and support a local business. You won't be disappointed. Great quality, brilliant staff and a perfectly reasonable bill. Absolutley brilliant. We will be back.

Brilliant service and amazing Chinese Food! Was soo good that we got it as a take out a couple of weeks later. The Chicken Sui Mai with a touch of ginger sauce was a personal favourite.

Came for dinner last night to this absolute gem of a restaurant in streatham! Can’t recommend highly enough - this restaurant wouldn’t be out of place in central london or shoreditch. Amazing quality Chinese food (which we find v hard to find!), beautiful interiors and lovely service. Definitely visit

Delicious high quality Asian food with a wonderful menu and great service. I’m pretty fussy about asian food having grown up in Australia. Restaurant has a great atmosphere and doesn’t feel like you are on the busy high street. Also reasonably priced for London.

Splendid meal. We ordered four different courses which i don’t recall the spesific name of. Was reasonable prized and delicious. Guiozas and dumplings. Ordered a special sauce which was absolutely terrific. On top of it all we recievedfree rice cakes on the side. Recommend!!!

This place used to be much better. Waited almost an hour for the main course and considered leaving. It's a shame as the first few times I visited Rice Republic in the past, my experience was far better.

I had great takeaway from here about 7-8 months ago but just now was delivered an extraordinarily disappointing wonton soup and roast pork char siu BBQ. The prawn and ginger dumplings I got were delicious but couldn’t make up for lukewarm, ketchup-flavoured pork I had to saw through with a steak knife and tough, gristly, unseasoned wonton meat. Also, this supposed-bbq pork was on a bed of sad, watery kale. I know we’re in a recession and food costs are higher but I’d honestly rather pay more for a decent quality ingredients and a chef who knows what they’re doing. What the hell happened, Rice Republic, you guys used to be decent? I have to go wash the bad flavours out of my mouth now.

All the food was absolutely great, wine was also excellent (the bio viognier) and the mushroom dumpling was hands down one of the best things I've ever eaten.

This was the most tastiest fresh and full of flavour foods I’ve ever had. Everything was delicious. It is an absolute hidden gem that more people should know about. Their food is amazing.

In the culinary desert that is Streatham Rice Republic is an oasis of good food and service. Whether you like British/Chinese classics like Crispy shredded beef/Prawn toast or Dim sum/soups you will find everything is super flavoursome and cooked with a light touch. The menu concentrates on what it does exceptionally well rather than an exhaustive list of Chinese cuisine. And Rice Republic also has a superb and fairly priced wine list. And best of all reasonably priced for food of this quality.

One of my favourite restaurants in Streatham. I haven’t found a lot of genuinely high quality Chinese restaurants in this area of South London but this one ticks that box. Great dim sum, crispy duck, and classic dishes like crispy beef and chicken with cashews. Nice wine too! I prefer eating in the restaurant than takeaway but takeaway is good too (unfortunately the driver stole our order the first time we ordered with them but thats not the restaurant’s fault and they were good at redelivering a new meal for us and it hasn’t happened since)

We ordered the crispy fried shredded beef with egg fried rice. Sadly it wasn’t as crispy as we’ve had it at other places. With the sauce it even got a bit soggy.

It's just above average, dim sum we're good but only got 2 very small ones for £4. Got 2 mains, crispy beef and szechuan chicken, both were pretty standard Chinese takeaway vibe, nothing special. Portion of rice was £5! Service was quick but rude.

Second Rate We decided to celebrate ending lockdown with a visit to this restaurant based on the reviews. I wish we hadn’t wasted our money or time. Very disappointed. We ordered the crispy duck, it resembled one of those frozen dishes i imagine you get from Iceland.. which is fine for £1.99, except this was over £25. The pancakes were very poor quality too. Don’t order the crispy beef either as it’s just a load of fried batter. On top of that the waitress had a very soft voice trying to talk through her mask but we couldn’t hear a word she was saying. Not recommend.

Best Chinese food in Streatham, a hidden gem.

I have dined here a 2 or 3 times over the last 2 years or so. It looks like they are trying very hard to give a "fine dining" experience, however a few things are still (very)off . Last night a few items arrived cold- a starter and one of the mains (Hong Kong sweet & sour chicken).Chicken was cold but the sauce was puzzingly hot. Also- my glass of house red wine was served chilled. Anyone working in fine dining at any position should be aware that red is never served chilled- but in room temperature! That was the first time I have ever been served chilled red wine in my whole life. Regarding the menu- very few vegetarian options- only 2 in mains, same for dim -sum- only one veggie option. My conclusion is - the restaurant is not worth the price (it's rather pricey for what it really is). It looks like fine dining in terms of decor and tableware, but in terms of service and food it's certainly is not (yet), by a far.

We called by Saturday evening for dinner, the lady who served us was very welcoming, the atmosphere very intimate and cosy. The food was great, everything tasted fresh, and even as a vegetarian there are plenty of options on the menu. Definitely a new favourite for us :)

A Chinese restaurant making their own in-house dim sum. A rarity outside of Chinatown, and they are getting bonus points for that. The dumplings are the star of the menu but it's all good. Nice casual dining in experience and very friendly staff.

UPDATE Since posting this review on 11/5/21, the restaurant owner/manager have created an Instagram profile with my images and name suggesting I'm a phone theft scammer in Streatham (sharing with Streatham community). They have also made a false response review (as George Lewis). Given the poor grammar and detail in what has happened there is no doubt the owner/manager have done this in response to my review and it's clearly harassment. I will be notifying the police about their responses to a genuine review. --- Visited pre covid for dinner, was excited about dining here based on the dim sum/wider menu. Whilst waiting to place my order a criminal pretending to be homeless and asking for money was able to visit every table and harass diners (while the manager simply watched and did nothing). After they had decided to loiter around our table and harrass us they discreetly stole my mobile from the table. I had only realised after the manager eventually forced them to leave. After complaining to the manager and owner about their responsibility to make the restaurant a safe environment, the owner seemed dismissive. After further complaints to the manager from me/other diner this bizarrely resulted in him offereing me his phone and crying. He gave me his number and suggested the owner/manager would compensate me (at least something towards the new £700 phone). Both subsequently denied responsibility and blocked my comms. Underhanded, unprofessional and lacking any morals/integrity. Very disappointed. Also, now I've discovered the 2 star hygiene rating I'm glad I won't be going back.

This is by far the best Chinese place in the area. We love ordering from them and the quality and taste of food is exceptional. Especially in favour of the delicate dumplings and the great taste of Hong Kong style chicken. Definitely recommend!!

Yesterday night delivery was exceptional! Food was delicious, well prepared, colourful, duck and rolls were very crispy and fresh, and the dumplings were so beautiful that I felt almost guilty when I ate them. In the package I also found a little gift - a face mask against Covid-19 that I really appreciated. Best delivery I got so far during lockdown!

I feel bad giving 2 stars but I kinda have to. I ordered at lunch time today for delivery at 20 past 7 this evening. I have to acknowledge its Chinese new year and therefore these guys are extremely busy but at the same time they took £60 out of my account immediately upon order, rather than waiting to confirm that my order had been accepted. I didn't receive any contact to confirm my order was going ahead until half 6, and at that point they told me it would be with me by 8, which ultimately would have been fine. I rang and spoke to a guy who said he would sort it as soon as he was able to get a driver which, fair enough, it was Chinese New years therefore they're all extremely busy. I spoke to the guy a couple of times over the intervening hour or so and he ultimately gave us a refund which I was grateful for. Our food arrived at quarter to 10 - 2 and a half hours after we had expected it - and stone cold. I completely get the busyness this evening and wish they had just rejected our order when we'd made it, as now they've had to lose money from our order, but ultimately I'm not willing to pay £60 for a cold order that arrived 2 and a half hours late. My extra star is to acknowledge that it's extremely busy and not completely within their control

One of my favourite restaurants. The menu is limited but what it has is top rate. I love the steamed buns and sweet and sour tofu. Always gutted it is closed on a Sunday which is my usual takeaway day!

Tuve una comida para llevar increíble de Rice Republic. La presentación fue realmente excelente, considerando que es una comida para llevar. La comida era de excelente calidad y todo estaba muy sabroso. Disfruté especialmente la carne de chili crujiente. Los precios eran razonables, pedimos deliveryoo. ¡Comida china de primera calidad! Lo recomiendo encarecidamente para llevar y definitivamente para cenar una vez que abran correctamente, ya que el restaurante se ve muy lindo por dentro.

We visited here just before lockdown and can't wait until we can return. The food is exceptional and the restaurant has a lovely feel to it.

We ordered takeaway for my husband’s quarantine bday this year and I can honestly say it’s the best Chinese takeaway we’ve ever had! I love that the menu is small, and it’s clear they put a lot of care into every item. I can’t wait to dine-in when available again and try ALL the dim sum!

Esta es, con mucho, una de las mejores comidas chinas que mi esposo y yo hemos tenido en nuestras vidas. Tuvimos una comida para llevar que recogimos y el servicio del tipo alegre y alegre en el teléfono fue excelente. Para empezar, pedimos una selección de albóndigas que eran excelentes, un delicioso pato aromático y panqueques, además de una excepcional tostada de gambas sobre masa madre con jugosas gambas considerables. Luego compartimos el pollo Szechuan y la carne con chile en salsa de frijoles negros y la calidad de estos dos platos fue fantástica. El arroz frito con huevo y los fideos de arroz también eran lo suficientemente sabrosos como para disfrutarlos solos. Recomiendo encarecidamente este fantástico lugar.

Lo visité dos veces. Es un lugar pequeño al final del Causeway por lo que se agradece que tengan buen AC. La comida es de inspiración Thai, sabrosa y económica, con una buena carta de té frío muy rico!!.. Lo único que deben mejorar es la atención, un poco lenta y desorganizada. Éramos tres personas y llegó todo a destiempo por lo que fue un poco incómodo.

La decoración de este lugar era realmente funky y rústica y la comida era increíble. Hacen al menos 5 dim sum veganos que eran increíbles y un tofu agridulce principal, todo muy buen valor también. Lo visitaría al 100% y es un pequeño paraíso en Streatham High Road.

Delicious food! We had some insanely scrummy food. Staff were really attentive and lovely. We were starving so tried the majority of the menu, safe to say we left happy and very full. We’d really recommend this hidden gem .... try the prawn sesame toast on sourdough bread, mouth watering. We will be back soon!

Went here after reading all the glowing reviews. it was Dec 22nd and I was taking my friend out for birthday dinner. The broccoli is the best broccoli I've ever tasted in my life. 10/10 The pork buns are some of the worst Pork buns I have ever tasted, you would literally be better off at Iceland, the inside was dry and devoid of sauce and looked a bit like a like packet mixture. 2/10 The egg thing was amazing, 8/10. The mini ribs we average at best, tasted like they had no seasoning and cooked in own juice, not bad but poor effort for a restaurant, fatty. 3/10 The dumplings were all average (prawn+scallop, pork) not bad at all but not great 5/10 Atmosphere and Chinese tea was nice. Played Xmas songs on REPEAT so let me tell you this.... nobody, I repeat NOBODY wants to lidyedln to 10 Xmas songs on repeat whilst on a dining experience. The managers must be on drugs. Tip: if you are going to go here order 1 broccoli as a starter... Realise how good it is and then order 5 for main course. Everything else is just a dissapointing mess but the broccoli is honestly worth going for alone.

Teníamos dos sumas débiles, el bollo de explosión de lava eggy, el pollo y la carne de res y las bolas de brócoli frito. Todo delicioso! Este lugar realmente hizo que mi antiguo restaurante chino favorito cerrara, pero para ser sincero, es mucho mejor.
