Great food, good service and atmosphere. Unfortunately beer is well over priced and no parking. Otherwise perfect.

Just phoned and asked if this restaurant is dog friendly,got abrupt reply "no,it's NOT " and the lady hung up on me. Will have to rate on a food obviously as this is kind of rude quick chat.Very disappointed with the attitude.

We visited the Kaziuk fair, bought a lot of takeaway food and more. Two stars for the chicken kebab, because it is probably the only normal dish, although the rice is sticky. There is almost no meat in cepelinas, and it is almost tasteless. The vegetarian kebab filled with only pickled cucumbers was really not tasty, and I'm not sure about the Žemaitsi pancakes with cottage cheese... we've been to the restaurant before, the food was quite tasty, but now at the fair it's very disappointing...

Absolutely delicious meal at this lovely restaurant. Had a good few dishes and they were all really well cooked.

Don’t know on what this depends, but one day the food is delicious and the other it’s like tasteless. Atmosphere bit boring, looks like you took Time Machine and went 25 years back.

We ordered zeppelins, cold borscht, zhemaičia and kedaina pancakes and homemade kvass. The portions are very large, even for England. The taste is excellent. Service was quick. The prices are very reasonable. We will definitely visit this place again, and maybe more than once. And we advise you.

It was our first time trying Lithuanian food and we will be back! It is such a lovely restaurant with impeccable service. The fried rye bread is amazing. They serve their own homemade Kvass as well!

Tasty food, friendly waitress, also little corner for Children to play. Nice! No lift only stairs - difficult yo get with a pram or wheelchair.

We have missed these dishes since our trip to Lithuania! The fried rye bread most of all. Everything was delicious and there was a good choice on the menu. The only thing I would have changed is the music. They said that we could only have a table until a certain time as there was a music event. Absolutely no problem, it didn't mean that we had to rush at all- but unfortunately the sound system was being tested while we were there and it was at ear-splitting volume. Memorable, but not conducive to chatting! Apart from that loved our visit.

Lovely food and prompt service. We had dumplings and chicken schnitzel which was delicious. And the Lithuanian wheat beer was also very nice. Will definitely return

Well first of all it's overpriced place to eat. Before we went in there i had high expectations because that's how i remember our country food. So ordered kebabs for and pork schnitzel with cheese and cold barshch. Well got really disappointed because the only good food was schnitzel,kebab hardly had any meat and no flavor, not even sauce had flavor, i really couldn't understand for what i payed that £13 when corner kebab shop does better for £3 🤦‍♀️

Nice place where to have dinner with good service. Only issue for me what i seen was price, because if you visiting this place, just get ready for a bit high price for food/ beverages. For the atmosphere and design price do not match, as you could go for decent stake house and have same or even less expensive meal. But overall you can have nice meal there, just be ready for expensive experience.

Lovely place, stayed in area for weekend and was so happy to find Lithuanian restaurant, which is very similar to our traditional food. Place is very clean, food is fresh, fast service, massive portions and affordable prices. Shame don't live close would come back to try zeppelins. Felt like at home. Thank you 😊

Never had Lithuanian food before. Will absolutely be having it again though! Everything was absolutely delicious, well cooked and reasonably priced. The side vegetables were especially flavourful, the pickled cabbage was flavoured with dill which turns out is a fantastic combination. Finally the honey cake was delightful. Somehow achieving the combination of being very sweet and rich while also being quite light. We'll be returning soon!

Ordered takeaway, received wrong order even when restaurant was completely empty (noticed when get home couldn't bother to go back). Not happy with service at all. Food was nice anyway.

We visited early evening. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Staff are excellent. The restaurant impressed by its cleanliness.

The staff are friendly, the portions are massive yet the prices were still affordable. I had the neighbours omelet which is a meat and tomato omelette thats full of flavour and defiantly a recommendation if you first come here. Great value for cash because one portion can last two meals and they box up your left overs if you ask. The breakfasts here are interesting and lend a great variety for anyone including decent meals for vegetarians. Defiantly recommend this hidden gem of castleford high street

First time having Lithuanian food and it was absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful when we asked for suggestions. The desserts were the best we’ve had in a long time. And the cherry beer was right up our street. Will be coming here again soon. Thanks Ruta team!

Huge portions for very reasonable prices. Was very pleased with service, the waitress spoke fluently in English, Russian and Lithuanian. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Not to mention great playlist of Lithuanian songs!

Absolutely loved the garlic bread starter, unfortunately though my main dish of chicken steak and cepelinai was rather disappointing the cepelinai was very gooey in comparison to others I've had and the chicken very rubbery and didnt taste fresh almost as though it had been reheated. Reasonable pricing but unfortunately wouldn't come back due to the disappointing main dishes.

Just paid for my meal but can't wait to write this review. It's a quiet day when we came in. But the service was outstanding. The food is amazing and portions are quite big too. So good Value too. Can't recommend this place enough. A must visit. Parking available on aire St which is free on Sundays.

My son's girl friend is Lithuanian and I have enjoyed her cooking and tried some myself so having spotted this restaurant in Castleford my partner and I decided to try a new experience. Fantastic food and service. As expected the fried rye bread with cheese and garlic is great and I was determined to try a zeppelin. The charming owner accommodated us with a shared one as an extra starter... wow, I fell in love with that zeppelin ! Main courses great. I had belly pork and partner had chicken escalope. Portions are generous as well. I was too full to try the honey cake, which I know is superb as I was given a whole one a couple of years ago. Maybe next time as we shall certainly be back. The lure of the zeppelins washed down with unfiltered wheat beer with lemon slice is too strong.

We visited Ruta as a group of 6 last night which was one of their live music nights. The menu is a pre order for these nights but still had plenty of choice. The Hostess/Owner is really friendly and happy to explain what you have ordered and to make you feel welcome. The quality of the food was excellent and very filling, the drinks menu had plenty of Lithuanian drinks plus a few European beers. The restaurant was full last night but the service was still excellent. It initially felt like we were on holiday as we were the only English people there, it quickly progressed to feeling like you were in Eurovision Song Contest!! we haven’t laughed and smiled so much in a long time. We had a great evening and cannot wait to return?

Great place to eat out and have a drink. Especially if you want to try Lithuanian cuisine. Good variety of dishes and beers. Excellent value for money and brilliant service. Thank you! Will be back again in the near future.

Really excellent food, with a great group of friends. Couldn't fault the service who were more than happy to explain what the food & drinks were all about. (Maybe a little honey drizzled over the honey cake) All in all a great night. We are a small group of friends (between 6 & 12 depending on work etc) who want to support localish restaurants in the Castleford area, meeting every 6 weeks or so. Any suggestions are welcome but Spanish & Greek are on the agenda for next time. (We want to avoid chains of places so the more independent the better) May Ruta Restaurant go from strength to strength. Thank you for a most convivial evening.

Just had a great meal. My friend is Lithuanian and wanted me to try food from her home. We had the fried garlic rye bread to start and shared our mains of the traditional boiled potato dumpling (zeplin) and the carp, both were delicious. The dumpling was huge and has a sticky rice texture and the carp was sweet and flakey, all so yummy. The lady who served us was really friendly, so nice. I would also recommend the Lithuanian black current wine. Will definitely return.

As an English customer with a Lithuanian girlfriend, I have been to many restaurants in Lithuania and UK but I can honestly say the food here is the best!! I loved every dish and every drink. The meal came with excellent customer service too! You can't go wrong with Ruta. I encourage English people to go here more, the food is divine. Top marks!

Visited tonight with my mother. We have visited Lithuania in the past and thought we would try this place. We were not disappointed. The service was great, attentive but not intrusive. Very good value. Good choice of beers, wines and cider. We shared a starter, good job as it was the size of a main course. We both had schnitzel for our main and it was lovely. Authentic tasting, huge portions, good value and very tasty. We will definitely be back.

My wife Linda and I had dinner at Restaurant Rūta last night. The food is delicious, the restaurant is spotlessly clean and very nicely furnished, and the service is efficient, polite, pleasant, and friendly. We can thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants great food in a lovely place at a very fair price.

Lovely ambience and service. Food not fancy but wholeheartedly recommended as it is freshly made on premises and tastes really good. Nice assortment of drinks. Portion sizes are big enough so in case you are planning desert, which we did not have as we have not had any room left, don't order a starter ! I only had a main and I wasn't able to finish it. I really fancied honey cake but maybe next time when I am in the area!

You would be forgiven if you walked past the entrance or may have not noticed it before however, you would be missing out on a real gem. Fancy something different then this is the place for you. Place is spotless & very welcoming. The menu choice is delicious, hearty & authentic……please give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. Menu changes from time to time to bring other delicious delights to your attention. If you are unsure of anything just ask..they are so helpful & accommodating. The drink options are great, some traditional & varied. Very reasonably priced, in fact it’s exceptional value. Well done!!

We had a great visit and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Our sever was helpful and informative. The wine and beer is all East European and so I ordered a wheat beer and my wife had a Georgian white wine.. We both had a soup to start and these came as large potions. I had borsch which was served hot with dark bread. It had great flavour and was full of vegetables - recommended. The main was a white stroganoff whilst my wife had a chicken coated in croutons. Both again were large portions and tasty. Overall it was all pretty exceptional my only criticism is the portions are too big and we couldn't finish all we were served. Only opened in May which probably explains the lack of reviews, however don’t let that put off this is the best food we had in our week stay in castleford.

At arrival it was promising, waitress seemed polite, good menu and nice atmosphere. Ordered our food, 2 mains and 1/2 portion of FRIED zeppelin to share. Asked for Mayo on side. Once food came, it was the normal zeppelin, I said, that I’ve specified when ordered that we would like to have a fried one, which 3 other people heard at our table. Waitress said, no that’s not what you’ve ordered, you ordered zeppelin and basically it’s there, not offered to swap the meal for correct one. Mayo never came either. Even had a cheek to come back after 10 min or so to ask if everything was ok with a food, NO it wasn’t, because that’s not what We’ve ordered. Have to say that other 2 main meals were tasty and good size.
