Review of Fox and Hounds, New Millerdam, Wakefield Our visit to the Fox and Hounds on Boxing Day was an absolute disaster. Despite the car park being unusually empty, it became clear why this place wasn’t busy. From the start, things were concerning—witnessing the chef picking his nose in the restaurant was beyond unhygienic. Despite this, we were seated after a 10-minute wait and hoped for a decent meal. Unfortunately, that hope was misplaced. The service was slow, but the real issues started with the mains. Two steak and ale pies turned out to be mislabeled chicken pies—dry and completely sauceless. My granddaughter’s chicken nuggets came with thick, dry potato wedges instead of chips, (anpparent their wedges are chips ) and my niece’s plain chicken burger arrived loaded with salad and dressings that she had requested not to put on . When we raised the issue with the waitress, she apologized but offered no real resolution. One pie was taken back, leaving my son-in-law without a meal. The landlord’s attitude was shocking—rude, dismissive, and argumentative. He outright denied the error, claimed we should be satisfied with a small deduction, and made no effort to rectify the situation. As we prepared to leave, the landlord told us to use the back door, an insult we refused. To make matters worse, the chef reappeared, mocking us by laughing, blowing kisses, and telling us to “get out.” For a family meal costing £114, we received subpar food, appalling service, and a level of hostility that was completely unacceptable. Avoid this place at all costs. The poor hygiene, unprofessional staff, and outright rudeness make it clear this is not an establishment that values its customers.

We heard that the pub had new ownership, so we decided to pay a visit and I have to say we were extremely impressed with the food, choices, service and the overall experience. I am a foodie and have worked in the industry for over 40years so my expectations are high, even the crockery and presentation was great. We popped in for a drink on Christmas Day and the owner, I think he was, came over and had a chat to us too, he was out cleaning the tables and that is an example of good leadership! Well done to everyone for bringing back a good friendly pub with home cooked food and excellent service. Definitely recommend you pay a visit and see for yourself.

We're do i start, we'll when arrived the chef came out of the kitchen picking is nose, great start, there was not 1 person in the restaurant, we were stood there for a bout 5 minutes, till staff decided to seat us, I was there with my partner, and her daughter and her partner with there new born baby, and 2 nices, the waitress was extremely anxious, then we orderd drinks, then food, we orederd 3 starters, which when they come was flat cold and didn't taste very nice so we're left, myself and daughter partner orderd steak and ale pie, and when it arrived it was chicken, like the cheap ones from a freezer shop, when we complained about it, we were told they had been labeled up wrong, then the waitress started getting verbally aggressive with us are grand daughter was getting up set with her raising her voice too her mum, at this time I asked for the bill, and went to the toilet, when I arrived back I was confronted by the landlord now raising is voice, to my partner asking us to pay the bill and leave out of the back door, we were then confronted by the chef who was picking is nose when he left the kitchen and was laughing at my partner for some kind of reaction, we paid the bill and left with the landlord screaming at us never to return. He then followed us in to the car carrying on shouting across the car park was so embarrassing, the food on a score of 1 to 10, rated 0, the hoist and staff also 0 Would strongly recommend not having steak and ale pie.

This is our local and since it has changed hands 6 months ago we have noticed a good improvement. Food and the wine list in general is much better. The pies are really good and wine list much more appealing. I think Adam is definitely moving in the right direction to make this pub a success with the locals and the those just visiting for the day.

Stopped in for a bite to eat with my daughter and my brother for a pre-Christmas treat. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced! I had the steak, cooked a very nice medium rare in a lovely peppercorn sauce. My daughter had the kids chicken nuggets, she cleared her plate so no complaints there! In fact we all cleared our plates so we were all very happy! Definitely recommend!

I was visiting a army veteran colleague who is suffering a progressive illness and although because of his illness and being unable to drive had not visited the Fox and Hounds pub restaurant for a while. His wife suggested that this pub restaurant was the nearest and best place to have dinner. We arrived at the pub and parked in the car park which was very dimly lit and quite difficult to park in the remaining space. We entered the pub and were given a table in a quiet area of the pub which we had requested because of my friends illness only to be moved 10 minutes later to another table. At no time did we see signs saying we had to register the car, there were no signs on the table, it wasn't mentioned by the waitress and because it was table service didn't visit the bar. As we were dining and it cost nothing if I had been aware I would most certainly have registered my vehicle. The menu we were given had most of the items unavailable and the only acceptable option was the lamb's liver. Eventually the meal arrived it was hot but absolutely tasteless, not even a averagely cooked meal all in all a most unsatisfactory experience. The bill for 4 plates of mediocre food and 4 drinks was just short of £90, certainly not value for money. Because we had not been verbally informed or seen the signs of the need to register the car, either verbally or seen any signage to that effect a £100 fine was issued. I would not use this establishment again for all the above reasons and if you do please ensure you register your vehicle on arrival. A poor experience which marred what should have been a good experience

Came here on a whim, staff super friendly and nice atmosphere however food order was given wrong 3 times - ordered one gammon, one beef, one turkey sandwich. By the time I finally got mine everyone was finished. Beef was chewy and was mainly just fat, also wasn’t pink like stated on menu. can’t comment on the turkey because we never got it. Stuffing tasted bought in and was extremely dry. Bread was also given wrong and was also stale but soggy in the centre ( but gravy was given on the side). Chips tasted like dirty fryer oil and had a horrible after taste so none of us ate them. Would’ve been happy to speak to someone about it at the time however no one checked on us. Would only ever come for a drink.

Always liked this pub. They’ve always had decent food and a range of good beers on tap/pump. There are also a decent selection of wines usually. Excellently placed to go for a walk in the country park opposite and then finish the walk with a pint. Used to have a pool table which I was disappointed to see they got rid of, but there is more room now, so can’t complain too much. Always friendly service and they do an excellent pub quiz on a Sunday evening.

Eaten here a while ago and was excellent..now as others have said over priced for what you get. £4 for a tiny basket of fries ( must only be 1/3 of a large potato used). World's smallest gravy boat comes with your pie . £18 for a burger with no fries. clear that they are eeeking out a profit on every item whilst increasing the price Shame . If it were pensioners special 2 meals for £15 it would be ok..but not acceptable.

Went on the off chance after doing the shopping. What a beautiful place with the old fashion pub design. The young lady waitress Ali was excellent with her customer services and knowledge of what foods were available with the opportunity of a specials board too. My son went for the adult size fish and chips which only a few chips were left. Myself and partner had the pie of the day which was steak and mushroom with both plates totally cleared. The sticky toffee pudding we all had for dessert was the cherry on top to a beautiful meal in a beautiful place

Popped in for some food after a walk. Ordered “pink sirloin beef sandwich, with hand cut chips”. To say it was bad is an understatement. Rubbery old beef served in cheap bread, with orange coloured overcooked chips and a Yorkshire pudding. I was starving but barely ate anything, and what u did eat left a disgusting taste in my mouth, like dirty old cooking oil. I literally can’t remember ever having a meal this poor.

Do not eat here the food is shocking We didn’t realise this pub sold food and as we couldn’t get in anywhere else stopped to read the menu Sliced pink sirloin on a seeded bap with triple cooked chips sounded nice so we both ordered the same This honestly has to be the worst food I’ve tasted in a long time The beef was certainly not pink it smelt and tasted “ odd” leaving an unpleasant taste The chips were cremated and cooked in what tasted like very old fat The chips came in a Yorkshire pudding Over priced poorly cooked below standard food Left most of it and went Surely you can do better than this ?

Sitting outside having a drink this evening when rats began running over the decking very close to the entrance. I went inside to alert the bar people. There were two of them, one I think is the current manager. I explained what I’d seen. The attitude was not so much laid as totally dismissive. No apology for my distress, no assurances it would be dealt with. This place is filthy outside nowadays, full of cigarette stubs and uncollected glasses on dirty tables. But to be expected to sit and have a drink with rats is totally unacceptable. I wouldn’t have a big of crisps from here and I certainly won’t be going back.

Based upon the reviews we recently looked at, after many years of absence, we visited on Saturday, 2nd December and were greeted by Molly, a very friendly positive character who showed us to our table and ultimately took our order. We found the place to be warm, friendly and comfortable even though it was a very cold evening. We began with the crispy potato skins before moving on to the mains where my wife chose the chicken curry and I had the rump steak which we both really enjoyed. In fact, my steak could have been easily mistaken for a sirloin in that it was very lean, tender and cooked exactly to my request. As the night progressed, we began to appreciate the attention to detail of our lovely host, Molly. We can safely say that we'll be coming back in the near future. PS Very good beer as well.

Dog friendly, Great food, great staff. We stumbled across this pub/restaurant and assumed it was Dog friendly, which it was. The food menu was great and the food itself was very tasty and a good portion size. Plenty of drinks options at the bar, and good prices. The staff are really friendly and even came to our table to give an update on the food even without us asking about it, so that was great. My only gripes would be: A lunch menu would be great. The food was delicious, but having a steak at 4pm is quite a lot. They could do with a dog menu, being so dog friendly (we saw about 6 other dogs), providing a menu with dog cream, sausages, and snacks would be great. although mine did like the pork cracklings.

Nice pub in the popular, but touristy, lakeside village of Newmillerdam. They do a very reasonable menu of pub grub and the section of craft ales is not bad also. The pub is dog friendly, which is good on the whole, but a popular location for lakeside walks means there can be quite a few dogs in the pub on occasion, and the dogs aren’t always that friendly with each other.
