No idea why but every time I call in for a pint or two, the next day I loose about a stone due to an upset stomach. That's just the beer I've not had any food but three visits and three following days spent very close to the water closet. Apart from that nice place.

My friend and I visited the Fox and Hounds after a stroll round Newmillerdam. We had a couple of drinks and ordered the Sunday roast. I had the sirloin beef which was absolutely gorgeous - perfectly cooked, on the pink side (exactly how I like it) and very little fat. The chef had overheard me asking about the fat (as I'm a fussy meat eater) and kindly said he would cut off any fat - which he did and was very much appreciated. My friend had the pork belly and equally enjoyed hers. My biggest disappointment is that I didn't have room to sample the sour cherry meringue pie... which sounded to die for! Very friendly landlord, great atmopshere and a great little location - especially with the sun shining down. I plan on being back very soon :)

This is a great pub with an amazing atmosphere - there are plenty of quirky little decor pieces around the walls that make any visit that bit more entertaining (my favourite being the backwards clock). The location makes it ideal to pop in for a drink after a walk, or even just as you are passing by and fancy 20 minutes to have a drink and a snack. The staff are friendly and the drink selection is good and reasonably priced. What more can you ask for?

A word of warning...... DO NOT ORDER A GLASS OF WINE unless you enjoy being duped and fleeced out of £12 !!!!!!! We called in today, ordered a pint of Landlord and a large Chardonnay. I paid by card and the lady behind the bar didn't tell me how much the drinks were. On returning home where I had left my phone on charge I logged onto my banking app to find the total was £16.75 fir 2 drinks. I did ring up to query this (surely a mistake?). We have always liked this place but will not be returning. Lesson learned.

The food arrived very quickly and was really amazing. I had the game casserole, which came with mash and veg. Husband got the steak and ale pie with mash and veg. There’s a great selection of beers that my fiancé really enjoys and I’m a big fan of the Recent Beans black coffee or a Forged gin and tonic – both from local companies, which is a nice touch. We haven’t had the chance to try the food yet, but it looks absolutely delicious and seems very reasonably priced. Review of Fox and Hounds, New Millerdam, Wakefield Our visit to the Fox and Hounds on Boxing Day was an absolute disaster. Despite the car park being unusually empty, it became clear why this place wasn’t busy. From the start, things were concerning—witnessing the chef picking his nose in the restaurant was beyond unhygienic. Despite this, we were seated after a 10-minute wait and hoped for a decent meal. Unfortunately, that hope was misplaced. The service was slow, but the real issues started with the mains. Two steak and ale pies turned out to be mislabeled chicken pies—dry and completely sauceless. My granddaughter’s chicken nuggets came with thick, dry potato wedges instead of chips, (anpparent their wedges are chips ) and my niece’s plain chicken burger arrived loaded with salad and dressings that she had requested not to put on . When we raised the issue with the waitress, she apologized but offered no real resolution. One pie was taken back, leaving my son-in-law without a meal. The landlord’s attitude was shocking—rude, dismissive, and argumentative. He outright denied the error, claimed we should be satisfied with a small deduction, and made no effort to rectify the situation. As we prepared to leave, the landlord told us to use the back door, an insult we refused. To make matters worse, the chef reappeared, mocking us by laughing, blowing kisses, and telling us to “get out.” For a family meal costing £114, we received subpar food, appalling service, and a level of hostility that was completely unacceptable. Avoid this place at all costs. The poor hygiene, unprofessional staff, and outright rudeness make it clear this is not an establishment that values its customers.

We're do i start, we'll when arrived the chef came out of the kitchen picking is nose, great start, there was not 1 person in the restaurant, we were stood there for a bout 5 minutes, till staff decided to seat us, I was there with my partner, and her daughter and her partner with there new born baby, and 2 nices, the waitress was extremely anxious, then we orderd drinks, then food, we orederd 3 starters, which when they come was flat cold and didn't taste very nice so we're left, myself and daughter partner orderd steak and ale pie, and when it arrived it was chicken, like the cheap ones from a freezer shop, when we complained about it, we were told they had been labeled up wrong, then the waitress started getting verbally aggressive with us are grand daughter was getting up set with her raising her voice too her mum, at this time I asked for the bill, and went to the toilet, when I arrived back I was confronted by the landlord now raising is voice, to my partner asking us to pay the bill and leave out of the back door, we were then confronted by the chef who was picking is nose when he left the kitchen and was laughing at my partner for some kind of reaction, we paid the bill and left with the landlord screaming at us never to return. He then followed us in to the car carrying on shouting across the car park was so embarrassing, the food on a score of 1 to 10, rated 0, the hoist and staff also 0 Would strongly recommend not having steak and ale pie.

We heard that the pub had new ownership, so we decided to pay a visit and I have to say we were extremely impressed with the food, choices, service and the overall experience. I am a foodie and have worked in the industry for over 40years so my expectations are high, even the crockery and presentation was great. We popped in for a drink on Christmas Day and the owner, I think he was, came over and had a chat to us too, he was out cleaning the tables and that is an example of good leadership! Well done to everyone for bringing back a good friendly pub with home cooked food and excellent service. Definitely recommend you pay a visit and see for yourself.

I was visiting a army veteran colleague who is suffering a progressive illness and although because of his illness and being unable to drive had not visited the Fox and Hounds pub restaurant for a while. His wife suggested that this pub restaurant was the nearest and best place to have dinner. We arrived at the pub and parked in the car park which was very dimly lit and quite difficult to park in the remaining space. We entered the pub and were given a table in a quiet area of the pub which we had requested because of my friends illness only to be moved 10 minutes later to another table. At no time did we see signs saying we had to register the car, there were no signs on the table, it wasn't mentioned by the waitress and because it was table service didn't visit the bar. As we were dining and it cost nothing if I had been aware I would most certainly have registered my vehicle. The menu we were given had most of the items unavailable and the only acceptable option was the lamb's liver. Eventually the meal arrived it was hot but absolutely tasteless, not even a averagely cooked meal all in all a most unsatisfactory experience. The bill for 4 plates of mediocre food and 4 drinks was just short of £90, certainly not value for money. Because we had not been verbally informed or seen the signs of the need to register the car, either verbally or seen any signage to that effect a £100 fine was issued. I would not use this establishment again for all the above reasons and if you do please ensure you register your vehicle on arrival. A poor experience which marred what should have been a good experience

By the time I finally got mine everyone was finished. Beef was chewy and was mainly just fat, also wasn’t pink like stated on menu. can’t comment on the turkey because we never got it. Stuffing tasted bought in and was extremely dry. Bread was also given wrong and was also stale but soggy in the centre ( but gravy was given on the side). Chips tasted like dirty fryer oil and had a horrible after taste so none of us ate them. Would’ve been happy to speak to someone about it at the time however no one checked on us. We had just arrived in Newmillardam and went for a meal on the chance they were still serving. Beautiful Sunday roast beef lunch with best roast Potatoes I have ever had in a pub lunch.

Really attentive staff and quick service, incredible gammon roast, none of that microwave stuff just lovely home cooked food. Definitely would recommend after a long Sunday dog walk.

Great bar, has a nice welcoming feel to it. Dog friendly, great drinks, good outside area. I can't speak highly enough of this great traditional pub.

Sitting outside having a drink this evening when rats began running over the decking very close to the entrance. I went inside to alert the bar people. There were two of them, one I think is the current manager. I explained what I’d seen. The attitude was not so much laid as totally dismissive. No apology for my distress, no assurances it would be dealt with. This place is filthy outside nowadays, full of cigarette stubs and uncollected glasses on dirty tables. But to be expected to sit and have a drink with rats is totally unacceptable. I wouldn’t have a big of crisps from here and I certainly won’t be going back.
