This review is solely for the accuracy of this Google profile. It says that the restaurant is open from 1700 on a Monday but when I got there at 1715, as you can see from my photos, there's no food until 1930 on Tuesday. Photos of the menu attached too. Free on street parking (after 1700)

We absolutely loved the food - the chef is really talented and each course we experienced was well presented and very tasty. Unfortunately, the service and atmosphere here really let the place down and don't do justice to the brilliant food. We sat down at 19.30 and by 22.30, we had one more course to go (6 course tasting menu) and in the end, we had to leave before this final one. Another couple had to do the same thing. Our booking email suggested leaving 2.5 hours for the meal - we did so, but in the end dinner may have been 3.5/4 hours and we had an hour's journey to get home. The wait between courses was painful. There was only one chef and one waiter (they said they were short staffed) and this just didn't work. Also, we'd booked with a voucher but paid extra for peak time and a £20/person deposit. We had 2 glasses of prosecco (£9 each) but were told one was on the house because we waited almost 30 minutes for the drinks. When we asked to settle the bill, we were told everything came out even so there was nothing to pay. We were expecting to get £31 back and then leave a tip, but we didn't get that option. We didn't want to cause a scene in such a small, quiet restaurant so decided to just accept this and leave. It's a real shame that they haven't nailed the service or atmosphere in here because the food was excellent!

We originally tried to book a table at 8, Andrew’s restaurant in Liverpool however, it was fully booked. We thought we’d give OXA a go since it was closer to home & had been recommended, I am so happy we did. This place is spot on! The food was incredible, the service was warm and personable. It’s fine dining food but has a casual, friendly atmosphere! The scallop and lamb, just wow! All 3 deserts were 10/10 & why I someone on here moaning about the bread & butter…we were still talking about that beautiful butter 2 days later as we both usually hate marmite! This place did not disappoint, can’t wait to go back!

We went for the 8 course tasting menu. I'm not sure what we received as there was no menu on the table. We didn't get what was published on the website. It was difficult to know when one course started and the other finished. Was a slice of bread and marmite butter really a course? Towards the end of the evening, it became clear they wanted to close early and go home. We weren't given a bill, just the card machine with the total already entered. I asked for a receipt. I didn't get a card receipt just a till receipt as we were hurried out at 10:20. When we got home, I checked, and we had been overcharged. I emailed and received a reply acknowledging receipt of my complaint. Over 3 weeks later, we still haven't had a response. If you must eat there, you are likely to be disappointed. Portion size is small even by tasting standards. Make sure you know what you are getting and that you get it. Insist on seeing the bill and check it is correct before you pay for it.

A gorgeous Michelin recommended neighbourhood restaurant in Oxton, Wirral, @restaurantoxa is headed up by @chef_andrew_sheridan and @jake12smi12_chef and was our venue of choice to celebrate me getting back on the transplant list last week. We went for the 8 course tasting menu at £80 each and Chef was more than happy to adapt the courses for Steve’s allergies. He even got a few treats that I didn’t! 🦪Chef’s Snacks 🥖OXA Sourdough 🐐Goats Cheese, Pickled Beetroot 🐟Hake, Cornish Mussels, Cauliflower 🐷Salt Aged Pork, Spilmans Asparagus, Carrot 🥭Passion Fruit 🍫Valrhona Chocolate, Herefordshire Strawberry 🧀Yorkshire Blue, Pickled Shallot Being presented with oysters was a great start as we’ve not had them in ages and the gluten free bread went down a treat. I’m now obsessed with Marmite butter too! The Hake was incredible and the little pot of passionfruit was just beautiful. All in all this was a fabulous experience in such a nice, relaxed setting. The staff were very personable and Chef brought every course to us with an explanation of what it was. The menu changes with the seasons so we will have to come back next time it switches up! Any excuse hey.

The restaurant has an unusual ambience for a fine dining place, very informal, relatively loud music of a type you’d expect in a wine bar but somehow it all makes for a very relaxed experience. The service was efficient and very friendly and informative. The wines were all very good but the real star was the delicious food. Every course was beautifully cooked and presented, not unusual perhaps , but we have rarely eaten such intensely flavoured dishes with original combinations of ingredients, even in the many Michelin starred restaurants we have visited. Incredible value for such superb cooking. Wish we lived nearer.

Delicious food, portions tiny, service charge huge! Will they delete my review? DOI: Masterchef fan reporting! We have seen unfavourable reviews vanish from this site. We came here with a voucher gifted from one of our sons for Christmas. The food was absolutely delicious but the portions were absolutely tiny. Whilst small portions are somewhat expected for tasting menus, every course apart from the main course was the size of an amuse bouche or canapé. As a masterchef fan, I think the portion sizes were rather mean, both from previous experience of tasting menus, and watching every series of Masterchef. Considering the main costs of running restaurant isn’t necessarily the food, the portion sizes were unnecessarily mean. The homemade sourdough, whilst delicious, is one of your courses. We upgraded to the 8 course menu, which was fortunate because we would have been likely to need a takeaway on the way home otherwise. The upgraded menu included ‘snacks’ which were lovely: poached oyster and a cherry tomato both in tasty dressings. My son has provided a review and photos. This was followed by the sourdough bread which was stunning but is indeed one of your 8 courses. The goats cheese course was absolutely lovely and absolutely tiny, with the 2 brick pastry rolls garnished with tiny discs of beetroot were actually to be shared so really presented as a snack rather than an individual course. The mussel course was delicious and they pushed the boat out: 4 mussels each! The main course, again beautifully presented and delicious was the size of a small starter. The pre desert was delicious, as was the tiny dessert. The extra course was cheese, presented with lovely homemade bread and tasty gels. We had decided to indulge in the wine parings: 6 small glasses of wine for £60 each, probably better value to just get a bottle or two of wine, especially when you get the bill and find the 12.5% ‘discretionary’ service charge is over £70. The service was largely good, but at times served the wrong drinks, or waiting for drinks and having to get up and stand and wait to remind for drinks to be brought when the manager was chatting to other guests. So we asked if we could reduce the service charge to £45 which I thought was reasonable, but this was denied and the full service charge was mandated by the chef! My eldest son who is ex front of house manager wasnt impressed with this and left a bitter taste to an otherwise pleasant experience. PS When we got home we had some of my own delicious homemade olive sourdough .

My family and I went here on a Thurday night on some vouchers my brother bought for my parents for Christmas. Let me be clear that while the service could have been slightly better (drinks forgotten, cutlery waited on), the staff were wonderfully pleasant and the food mostly lovely. We had the pescitarian menu for 8 courses which was very good, I would argue however, that saying sourbough bread is a 'course' is a bit rich. What has left a bitter taste however was when the bill came and there was a 12.5% service charge (based on pre-voucher cost) which specifically noted it was discretionary for tables of 4 or less which we were. Yet when we asked for this to be reduced (not removed) the lovely waitress went off and returned to let us know that the chef has informed her that as the meal was partly paid by voucher this service charge was no longer discretionary. We have checked the voucher, and their website and found nothing that mentions this. Sadly it now means that when we talk to friends and family of this place it will be the defining memory.

Food was beautifully crafted but exceptionally small. We have had many tasting menus at Michelin Star level but never left hungry. This was the equivalent of 5 courses from a larger tasting menu (cannot count olives and nuts as a course). Service was efficient. Wine list was reasonable and well chosen.

Last night I had the vegan 6 course menu and accompanying wine flight. It was mainly ok and two of the dishes were incredible. Unfortunately the two sweets were really, really disappointing. When I saw what the others at my table had compared to mine I was really disappointed. They had multiple beautiful components presented stunningly and I had a half filled pot of chocolate with chopped up strawberry and almonds on top. There was nothing special about it at all. I make that at home with avocado. So that let the meal down a bit. However, as I said earlier the savoury courses were phenomenal! Unfortunately the main issue was the service. It was SO slow and the whole experience took 3 hours. There was a wait of 40 minutes between the 5th and 6th course and because the wine came with the course we had no drinks either. So overall I had an ok experience but was excited to leave and we all had a sandwich when we got home. I've attached pics of three great savoury vegan dishes and the comparatively disappointing vegan dessert. EDIT: I bought a vegan chocolate pot from tesco the other day and said to my gf this actually has more flavour and better texture than that chocolate dessert I had at OXA! It is true!

The food was very good . I'm a chef and worked with 2/3 Michelin star chefs and have been in a small brigade that won a star and have worked at other 1 stars . I would be as bold to say that the food we were served was pretty much 1 star standard(I rated it higher than Rogan and Co 1 star that we had dined in before Christmas) with some lovely flavour combinations and the tasting menu as a whole had a nice, natural flow to it, with each course thoughtfully prepared to lead onto the next, with flavour profiles working together and not clashing from course to course. So, nice one to the kitchen team. However, the restaurant is a way off from achieving a star. The decor is bland and needs more thought. Their were electrical wires hanging out of a wall above us. The service was great to start with. But we weren't offered the wine flight, so I ignored it when I eventually saw it on a separate menu to the food menu. Then it turned abit bizarre at the end of the evening. There was a mix up with our bill, we had a pre paid voucher (a Xmas gift from the misses as I said I wanted to try here as I like the head chef) The waiter kind of lost the plot and became very unprofessional. I won't go into details, but it wasn't much fun for us. Then when that was over we just wanted to leave and needed our coats. No foh to be seen and we could see them hanging out in the kitchen and had to wait 10 mins until they came out. Kind of overshadowed a great meal that we thoroughly enjoyed, food wise. You will not get 3 rosettes or a star, which I presume you are pushing towards, because of the points I've mentioned. If your not pushing for these accolades then my points are irrelevant. However there is literally no excuse, having spent £350 for foh to lose the plot and start ranting and swearing at us over a poxy voucher that was a gift from my beloved, I've never experienced anything like that, anywhere. Ho hum, let down in the final 20 mins of an otherwise lovely evening. Iron these issues out and your onto a winner. Keep going guys and believe that your better than that.

I booked for Valentine’s Day so pushed the boat out and ordered the 8 course taster menu for us both and the accompanying wine pairing just for me. Having only eaten a lunch menu once before I was blown away by the standard of both service and food we experienced. The sommelier, whose name I didn’t catch, but was from Valencia, was very interesting in his description of each of the wines and in particular the music being played in the restaurant, having been selected by him. I would definitely recommend anyone to book and experience the same fabulous cuisine and service. Living in Oxton and in walking distance we’ll certainly be booking again, also to support our local businesses especially hospitality at this difficult time.

Amazing experience, food is off the scale good and they are Michelin for a reason. The food menu changes seasonally for the best and most local ingredients, which are then used fantastically. The wine pairing was very clever too, genuine linking to the food and most places can't get that bit right. Small, busy, fantastic waiting staff who really understand the meaning of hosting and making sure the entire experience from arrival to departure is a cracker.

OXA restaurant in Oxton village in deepest Wirral. Lovely, especially if fish and chips aren't quite your thing. A discovery for us, and an immediate reservation. Don't be put off by the photos of exquisite fragments on the website - probably the tasting menu. Here's our more substantial meal : my rock bream, perfectly done, crisp skin, in a truly exquisite sauce (we'd already finished the warm, round, dark miso sourdough roll, oysters, and so on), roasted young leeks, ditto lettuces in some blue-green sauce (delicious, but ingredients I've forgotten), and my companion's pork dishes (of which I wasn't offered a bite!. Not even a bit of the rissole....). A not entirely exceptional shared summer trifle (at least that was the idea ), a rhubarb flavoured gin, and the bill. Not in the least exceptional for such a fine spread. Just opened, they have a tasting menu only brother establishment in central Liverpool which we plan to try sometime soon. Great fun. Importantly, for us, there is also a vegetarian option which means we will be able to return with our vegetarian kids, when they are home! The wine list is interesting as it is restricted to wines from Britain (as opposed to British wines🤣). Our waiter who I never caught his name was impeccable and gave a detailed description of each meal and wine, a real pleasure and he certainly knew his stuff. To top of our evening, Jake the Head chef came out to say hello to me and have a little chat with me, which was a honour. I cant choose which dish was my favourite as they were all next level. The oysters were splendid. I've eaten oysters from a young age, but these were something else 😍 We will 💯 percent be back and trying the other restaurants in Liverpool ans Birmingham. Thank you for a fabulous evening.

The best food I've had on the Wirral for ages. I simply can't fault it. Fine dining at its best.

A worthy successor to the former Fraiche. Service was excellent. Friendly and knowledgeable explaining each dish and paired wine. At times a bit stretched due to the number of bookings arriving at the same time. Food was amazing, certaimly as good if not better than anything else on The Wirral. Considering how quickly Oxa has opened an amazing feat and welcome addition to the area. I am sure a couple of AA rosettes will soon follow. Can't wait to visit again, loved the English wines.

The food was exceptional and the service was excellent. We enjoyed all 5 courses and cannot wait to come back. Easily our new favourite restaurant in Wirral.

Had a Sunday lunch wasn't the best one I've had there. The roast potatoes were over cooked and then some looked anaemic. The pigs in blankets were over cooked their was four of us and we was disappointed

Love the friendliness of staff and customers alike, always a warm welcome at the Mags, I visit my sister in law most weeks and we walk along to eat and have her favourite tipple, peroni. Fish and chips tonight was great, looking forward to seeing you all next week. I think I've found my favourite eatery.
