Restaurant Highlander Inn in Moray

Awesome place with a gigantic choice of scotch whisky as well as a large collection of japanese whisky. This combined with a absolutley cozy atmosphere, delicious food and very very friendly staff makes it a fabulous place to spend the evening. I had the classic haggis balls as a starter, the fish&chips as main and toffee cake as a dessert. Everything was just outstanding. It was so good, we will pay it another visit tonight.

Wir hatten Anfang September drei Übernachtungen im Highlander Inn und haben an zwei Abenden dort auch gegessen. Das Essen kann man als 'ordentliches Pub-Food" bezeichnen - nichts Besonderes, aber von guter/zufriedenstellender Qualität. Highlight ist aber die Bar mit rund 300 verschiedenen Whiskys, aus denen man sich etwas aussuchen kann (zu fairen Preisen): Kein Wunder also, dass der Highlander Inn eine bevorzugte Anlaufstelle für Whiskynerds ist, die die Speyside-Region erkunden möchten. Die Zimmer sind okay, das schottische Frühstück eine gute Grundlage für weitere Unternehmungen in der Umgebung.

Es war wunderbar. Urige, authentisches Restaurant mit sehr netten freundlichen Service und leckeren Essen. Gigantische Auswahl an Whiskys. Wir kommen her. Wieder und können es nur empfehlen

Lovely wee in with friendly staff. Good choice of lunch options. Good selection of beers and whisky galore. Enjoyed sitting listening to the locals banter. Great atmosphere, with a relaxed easy going vibe.

We chose to visit The Highlander on the last night of our holiday and to eat there. We booked on the previous evening. The waitress who took the booking was the same person who greeted us upon our arrival. Our table was ready and the attention which we received was first class. What a difference it makes to be attended to by a member of staff who had some real character about them. The menu was well planned and the portion sizes were realistic. All in all, the visit was memorable for many verry positive reasons. We would certainly eat there again. Well done!

One of the best meals I had in Scotland - pub or otherwise. I had the steak and ale pie and it was superb. I wished I’d have stayed longer just to try more of their amazing whisky collection - I mean, selection!

The place is so so friendly and a paradise for whisky lovers. Very nice owner and the staff around him are brill. They make you feel at ease. Good steak pie and fair prices. If you about i would strongly advice!

Do the flights! The whisky flights. Carefully selected and curated bottles. For a great introduction to novices to rare and olde gems that you would be hard pressed to sample anywhere. Great service, great snacks and pub food. Reservations essential as this place fills up very quickly.

You have to see this inn! You can stay the night there or just stop by for a glass of whiskey or beer. Lunch and dinner are also fabulous there and Tatsuya, the owner, is always present, who is willing to provide the best service every day.

Just needed a quick lunch stop before our next Distillery tour, the staff were very accommodating and got us served quickly. We had sandwiches, toasties and soups, everything was great and tasty. Highly recommend.

Met up with some friends from Belgium and had a nice evening but then it came taxi home time . They were going to Elgin and managed to get one OK after 45 minutes. I was going to Dufftown unfortunately despite the bar staff calling the only 2 local firms repeatedly there was no response, this at 10 pm . By 11 pm Ben very kindly offered me a lift home when he finished for which l am most grateful. Beware people, pre book your ride home and don't leave it to the last minute. I,m speaking from past experience! Cheers Ben .

The Highlander was recommended by the bar tender of the Fiddichside Inn just down the street and over the river Fiddich. The menu is good English fare. I had the Fish & Chips, and as titled, it is classic. Great battered Haddock and thick cut fries (chips). The whisky selection is significant and the staff is very knowable to help if with a dram or three. In fact, the entire staff is very attentive and provided a delightful evening.

Really happy to have landed at the Highlander Inn for a very pleasant pub dinner. The Barman is very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. 10 out of 10 to him. Dinner was delightful. First introduction to haggis and far beyond my wildest dreams. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! I - converted. Thank you!!!!

We didn’t have reservations but were seated immediately even though the pub was quite full. I had a curry and my husband had haggis stuffed chicken. Both were delicious! My husband enviously watched a nearby table enjoying whisky flights, but since he was driving all he could do was watch!

The whiskey bar here is unparalleled. Just fantastic! We were actually waited on by the owner - who my husband had seen featured in Whiskey Advocate magazine. How cool is that? The freshest and tastiest fish and chips we had on our whole trip. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly and the gal behind the bar was fun to chat with! Will definitely go back if we are in that area again!

Came here with some friends to try some excellent whiskies and we weren’t disappointed. An amazing selection to choose from catering for all tastes. Tatsuya is a first class host - passionate, charismatic and seriously knowledgeable when it comes to all things whisky.

Fairly traditional Scottish pub with well kept ales on tap and a good selection of bottles from local breweries. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The whisky selection is vast and they were happy to answer all my daft questions and dig out a dram from the distillery that we were staying next to.

We spotted the Highlander Inn from when walking on the Speyside Way - not hard given its right next to it!We called in on the return leg for lunch.....the bar & restaurant was very quiet which was expected with current restrictions but the welcome was warm and the staff efficient and friendly with all the necessary COVID precautions in place.The menu had lots of choice from lighter options to bigger meals. The food was cooked fresh to order with good portion sizes, good side dishes and more importantly was very tasty. We has the fish & chips, steak pie, macaroni cheese & Cajun chicken burger. They were all delicious. We shall return!

Myself and two sons have been visiting this Inn for 3 years now on our Distillery Tours. Great Ales and lovely food and a whisky menu to die for! Tatsuya Minagawa and his staff are so knowledgeable about the whiskies on offer and will guide you through if you ask.

Popped in for a drink and a snack and the chef kindly did us some chips despite us missing the kitchen closure time by a few minutes. The lady at the bar was very welcoming. Pub is cosy with lots of whiskey decor. Had we been in the area longer we would have come back for a main meal.

The Highlander Inn went the extra mile for us and nothing was too much trouble.Despite being very busy they somehow accommodated me and 5 others when we turned up out of the blue and provided us with beautiful rooms + a fantastic dinner menu.THANK YOU.The breakfast menu is first class as were the comfortable leather couches in the lounge with its access to the lovely balcony view

Went to visit this place for a drink to be asked if I was dining there ,as I said no the atmosphere changed had 1 drink and left felt unwelcome. would not recommend this place

Had a fabulous meal here last night, 18 of us. All the food was gorgeous, very generous portions.highly recommended.

We have had dinner here 3 times over the past couple of months, and on every occasion it was delicious! On our last visit, we had a combination of the specials & normal menu. Generous helpings, nicely presented and one of the nicest side salads I have ever had! The staff are welcoming, attentive, friendly and professional.

We had 3 hours to kill on a Saturday afternoon between our last distillery tour and dinner so our driver recommended we pop over to the Highlander as we were staying at the nearby Craigellachie Hotel. A very good suggestion! Great whisky selection, particularly in the locked cabinets where the best stuff is kept (first time I've ever had a Port Ellen!), and the staff took very good care of us as we got progressively more drunk while playing pool and nibbling on some of the tasty bar food.

Adventssonntag zu einem langen Spaziergang bei klarem eisigen Winterwetter aufmachten, wollten wir noch lecker zu Mittag essen.Wir kamen mit 6 Personen, fanden einen Platz in einer gemütlichen Nische. Die Bedienung war zuvorkommend und freundlich. Schnell hatten wir die bestellten Getränke auf dem Tisch.Wir bestellten Sirloin Steak, Chicken Nugget, Calamari, Canjun Burger und Beef Burger. Alles kam mit reichlichen Beilagen, Zwiebelringen, Pilzen, sehr guten Pommes.Es hat köstlich geschmeckt! Wir waren sehr zufrieden und werden gerne wieder kommen.

The Highlander Inn has the pub in the basement which holds all the charm one would expect from a Scottish pub. The whiskey selection is impressive and the food is quite good. The pub area is quite small and there is a pool room on the other side of the main seating area. The staff were helpful and the service was good. Local residents visit the Highlander and are an important part of the atmosphere.

Wir waren auf der Rückreise von der Caskfabrik und warteten auf den Bus als wir entschieden einen Teinken zugehen. Aus einem Bier wurde ein ganzer Abwnd mit Abendessen. Wir waren Willkommen und die Leute waren alle sehr freundlich. Das gemütliche Pub im Untergeschoss des Inn bietet lokales Bier wie auch Whisky und denn üblichen Food für Schottland.

Lovely location close to the river Spey & the famous Telford bridge. Lovely interior & attentive barmen/staff & very good choice of beverages/food.

If you love malt whisky, you have to visit the Highlander! The bar is downstairs from the road because of the steep slope of the land running down to the Spey, but out of the back of the bar you can look out over the river. At weekends it get justifiably busy, so it might be advisable to book for food as tables can be at a premium and it's not a huge place. The food is always good; there's always real ale on offer (well-kept); and the whisky menu is to die for! Nominate your driver early or book a taxi, because it's easy to get tempted!

Wir waren zwei Nächte in Craigellachie und waren beide Male im Highlander Inn. Die Karte ist eher regional gehalten. Alle Menus haben uns gut geschmeckt, die Portionen waren (je nach Gericht) großzügig bis nicht zu schaffen und die Preise fair.Besonderes Highlight ist die Whisky-Karte, die neben Standards und auch jede Menge Raritäten enthält (die aber natürlich z.T. auch durchaus ihren Preis haben).Das Personal war beide Male sehr nett und aufmerksam und kann bei Bedarf auch qualifiziert beraten.Wir haben uns wohlgefühlt und kommen gerne wieder!

Nous avons passé une agréable soirée dans ce restaurant-pub. La cuisine n'est pas exceptionnelle, mais elle est correcte, l'accueil est bon et l'ambiance chaleureuse, et puis, c'est l'occasion de goûter l'un des whiskies produit dans l'une des nombreuses distilleries qui jouxtent le Speyside Way.

It's been a year from the last time we visited the place. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable no doubt about that.

We were looking for a place to have lunch after a long trip from Mull to the region of Craigellachie and we decided to sit down at Highlander Inn. We were a little early but were served drinks anyway and when it was time we got to see the menu. We both ordered the Toasties with the soup supplement. Since the toasties are normally served with salad I expected there to be salad but there wasn't. The toasties were okay but could have had some more time in the grill. The soup was disgusting. It was so unbelievably salty that I just couldn't eat it after about a quarter of the bowl. It seemed like it was powdered broth to which too little water was added. My boyfriend ordered another toastie afterwards because he was so extremely hungry from our long trip, and this came with salad! I would have loved to have that with the soup and toastie combination. That was really good and the toasties were much better than the first ones.

Wie schon von anderen gelobt, tolle Whisky Auswahl zu moderaten Preisen. Dazu tolle schottische Küche und sehr nettes Personal - immer wieder.

Was recommended by a local, a party of four, upon reading the menu I thought they’d given us the wrong one , probably a reasonable choice for a lunch time, but well below a standard for an evening meal, so on deciding on the described traditional fish and chips, being a short distance from Petershead I assumed i was in for a treat, well if frozen chips,peas and fish are traditional at about £12.95, though a really nice tarter sauce was provided ( yea ) , this was without doubt the most lazy meal I have had in ten years, apparently three chefs who can’t be stooping so low as to make proper food, pretentious and lazy, with a management who are obviously either not in control or not bothered how they get money, but never mine again.

Much to recommend it but beware that if you just pop in for a drink you have to pay cash for less than £10. Almost unheard of these days.

Ricardo and Bill were so kind and set us up with a whisky tasting that was informative as well as delicious. We can back another evening for dinner and we enjoyed it immensely

The chef was able to accommodate my Gluten Free requirements even although the menu is heavily "traditional" fayre. The barman was great at advising me re a whisky to try, based on my taste. A lovely evening.

Das Highlander Inn muss man besucht haben. Riesige Whisky Karte mit echten Schätzchen zu günstigen Preisen. Kompetentes Personal und wirklich sehr freundlich. Das Essen Pub typisch aber guter Qualität. Man sitzt drinnen und draußen sehr gemütlich und kommt schnell mit anderen Gästen in Kontakt.

We stayed in the hotel and ate in the restaurant. Really friendly and accommodating service. Excellent range of whisky. Great burger. Highly recommended if in Craigellachie.

Nice food and fantastic drams, the craic with the staff is always brilliant. Hopefully be back up soon for some more drams and food.

I heard that this was the place to go for whisky and food, so we stopped in on a weekday to try it out. The place was almost full but we were able to get a table in the corner after another couple decided to sit at the bar. It was very difficult to get service either for drinks or dinner, and the staff was not particularly accommodating. We had to go up to the bar time after time to ask for drinks, to order dinner, and to ask for the check after it seemed like they forgot about us. Once the food did come we found it very average. We heard other tables complaining about the same issues. We never went back and we would not recommend it.

We stopped in here for a well earned drink on our way back to Aberlour after walking the Dufftown loop. Friendly service and some nice real ales, but most importantly a great range of well priced single malts. We tried a few but then had to leave to walk the couple of miles back to our place for dinner.

Had soup only and a few beers. Huge range of whisky. Friendly staff. Can eat at tables in the bar area or in the restaurant. Reasonably priced. 10 beers on tap.

Ich war zum 2. mal im Highlander Inn mit Freunden auf dem Whisky Trail... die Auswahl an Whisky ist sehr groß und die Preise moderat, das Essen ist ok, und auch dort ist die Auswahl gut, mit wechselnde Tagesgerichte.

Something of a hidden gem. The Highlander, off the Main Street in Craigellachie offers some good honest food at very reasonable prices. With a selection of real ales and an astonishing collection of single malt whisky, it’s definitely worth a visit. The bar staff are welcoming and efficient. The menu whilst not extensive, does offer something for everyone.

Although we did not stay at this hotel, we ate at their restaurant twice. They have delicious soup and fish & chips. Their staff is educated and knows their way around the amazing whisky menu! Seating is limited.

We (3) ate dinner here on two consecutive nights, and thoroughly enjoyed the food! I found the bar manager(s) to be very helpful, and on point, in suggesting drams for me to try. Street parking was somewhat limited, but we found this establishment to be convenient, affordable and well worth a visit!

An overnight stop in our tents down the road in the park after a long 50 km paddle down the River Spey. We hadn’t booked but the kitchen coped very well and the whiskey tasting was excellent. This pub is much improved from the last time that I ate here and will definitely require another visit when I bring my ‘better half’ north.

On our visit to Craigellachie we stopped in the Highlander Inn on two occasions, once to eat and once for a later evening drink. On both occasions the welcome was good, it is a small bar area with limited tables, so it may be advisable to reserve in advance. The food was standard pub fare, decent and tasty but nothing exceptional.

Tried to have lunch here - maybe 10 people there - we were told there would be a wait but they couldn’t say how long it would be Strong smell of cigarettes. Went to the Copper Dog Pub across the road - immediate service and good food.

Managed to get a table (just). Friendly staff. A little disappointed with the vegetables served with the salmon. The fish was fine but veg rather undercooked to my likeing.

We were a little bit nervous about eating here initially as it is a small local pub which has probably not changed in 50 years - it is certainly quaint !

Took my family for a lovely lunch on our stay up in Scotland, all of the family where catered for including the children. Lovely relaxed atmostphere and the food was brilliant, highly recommend the steak! They also have a lovely selection of local whiskeys to sample.

Another little gem in the Speyside area. They have a great selection of Scotch whisky and the menu is excellent. If you're looking for a quick bite on your travels, stop in here.

Lovely pub, great range of whisky and staff friendly. The only thing that did not meet the ends was the food. The steak was clearly under cooked and the whisky sauce that you can buy extra was so tasteless and awkward that i just left it. No salt or pepper were used with both of them. The haggis was weird. Others from our group were not so critical but they had different portions. Can´t remember the name but the meat-plate or something was praised.

Concernant la cuisine... disons que nous n’avons pas fait les difficiles car le choix est rare dans la région et trouver un endroit où manger a suffit à notre bonheur.

We were blessed with good weather when we visited this pub. They have a great range of beers and spirits, (Whisky & Gin). The food was really delicious too, served with a smile and very efficiently. I would thoroughly recommend this place as a place to eat.

We stopped in town for one night after hiking 13 miles on the trail. Service was wonderful and the food was very good… Some unexpected options in the Scottish highlands like a Scottish salad with chicken and chorizo. The whiskey selection was out of this world and we started with the Aberlour as it is in the region.

There are two restaurants available in Craigellachie and they are right across the street from one another. We choose this one because our innkeeper suggested it was less stuffy and the scotch whisky selection was amazing. She was right, and we had a pint of Scottish beer and a few whiskies before dinner. The food was good and a little unexpected for a tiny provincial village. I had the daily special: pan-seared duck served over mashed potatoes and mixed veggies, smoked fish trio and the cream of mushroom soup. The Highlander Salad could have been better, but the chicken was tender and the veggies interesting. Overall pretty good. The proprietor is watchful and the service was attentive. Unfortunately we won’t be here another night to try the Copper Dog across the street at the Hotel. Enjoy.

A great spot for lunch while wandering around the Speyside Whiskey Trail. We sat outside on the deck which made for a really nice meal. Lunch with Guinness was £20.

My family and friends had dinner at the Highlander, we all went for the seafood on their specials menu - it was Perfect! Usually you have to travel to the west coast for good seafood. Wow, we were wrong. The food was not only decently priced but beautifully cooked and presented.

Helt okej mat, the fish and chips var okej, och väldig stora portioner. En av våra vänner köpte hamburgare som var lika seg som en skosula. Så blandad respons.

People come here for their world famous selection of whisky, but don't underestimate the food. The burger was terrific, stacked with onion rings, chips, slaw and salad on the side. Sooo tasty. Great service too.

Our dinner of Haddock and chips and the Seafood Crumble was absolutely scrumptious. The batter on the Haddock was thin and crisp and not greasy. The Seafood crumble was filled with smoked haddock, fresh salmon and shrimp in a creamy cheese sauce and was served with steamed potatoes and fresh carrots and snow peas. Service was excellent. An absolutely wonderful meal.

We visited a couple of months ago in search of something to eat while passing by. I don't think they were due to be serving food at that time, but they offered to make us a meal anyways and we appreciated that kindness as we didn't think there was anywhere else nearby open at that time of day. The bar seemed to be full of local folks, everyone was very friendly, and we felt very much at home. The food was excellent and we admired the huge whisky selection - maybe next time! We'd be particularly interested in trying the Japanese whisky they had on offer. Must return. We recommend this place - good people and very tasty food.

We only ended up in The Highlander because Copper Dog was full (and quite rude!). However, having been there I do not think the TripAdvisor reviews do it justice. The service was warm, welcoming and efficient. The soup & sandwich lunch was excellent, and the drinks selection was also very satisfactory. If you like Whisky, I think you could spend a week there and not try them all! Lovely place. Would happily recommend and return.

As a pre-booked group we arrived early and received a very warm welcome. As the website and reputation shows the Highlander is replete with myriad whiskies to sample at a variety of prices. The food (we had starters and mains) was universally tasty and well-presented, offered at good value for a mid-price-range establishment. All aspects of service were very good. Overall our experience was a very positive one and we would return here if back in the region again.

Went down to the whisky bar, fantastic place. Too many whiskies to choose from, but you cant go wrong with the Highlander Inn's own bottlings. I tried the 25 yo Glendronach, expensive but worth it. Also had a soup and sandwich lunch which was also extremely nice.

Excellent value bar type food and staff could not have been more helpful. The bar specialises un whisky and the owner is a world renowned expert in both Scottish and Japanese whiskies.

If you want to try different whiskys this is the place to visit. They have a very large selection and their staff know their stuff.The food in the Highlander is good too.

The Highlander Inn Whisky Bar is among the highlights of my two week vacation in Speyside. Conveniently located along the Speyside Way in Craigellachie, it is a welcome sight for weary hikers in search of a wee dram or a pint. The food here is excellent as well. The owner, Tatsuya, is a world-class expert on whisky and runs a top-notch business. The bartenders, Billy and Felix, are friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. Leigh, the chef, is amazing. Danielle, Zoe, and Makayla are outstanding waitresses. Highly recommended. Come prepared to make friends!

Een heel mooi en centraal in het bekende " spey-gebied" gelegen Inn . Whiskybar, restaurant en verblijf met een sfeervolle indeling en heerlijk eten.

O hotel é bom, os quartos são limpos e já modernizados, o imóvel é antigo, assim, para quem tem dificuldade em subir escadas, especialmente carregando a bagagem, não recomendaria. O café da manhã é bom, no estilo de outros locais da região, com um pequeno buffet de frutas, iogurte e sucos e um cardápio para os pratos maiores de café da manhã. Oferece o café da manhã clássico escocês. O pub do hotel é ótimo, tem bom cardápio, comida clássica de pub. O cardápio de whisky é muito bom e recomendo uma degustação de single malt. Eles têm vários tipos de degustação, para todos os perfis de bebedores.

Besides very good food they have a great bar with an amazing whisky selection. This is also the only place I have ever seen the full Flora and Fauna Collection of Diego releases.
