I was most disappointed with the dinner that I hosted for my family. I have been to this restaurant many times. The food used to be very good as there was an acclaimed Chef. Not sure what happened but the food was bland and given the cost of each dish, came with no greens other than couple of boiled potatoes. This is not a cheap place, and we were somewhat surprised given our previous experiences. However, will like to add that the staff were most attentive, and service was good.

Standards have sadly fallen which may be due to changes in chef. Totally lacking in flavour with very little sides served with my main which was the cod. Good job I had ordered some. It never used to be like this.

It was nice to be back at the Fairlawns. We hadn’t been for a while, but had received a voucher for afternoon tea for two from a friend. The food was delicious, well presented, and lots to eat. Fortunately they allow you to take away what you can’t manage. It’s a lovely environment. It’s just a pity that the vegetarian menu for lunch and dinner doesn’t seem to have changed much, and the prices seem to have increased considerably – although I guess that’s understandable, given the cost-of-living situation. Anyway, we enjoyed our visit, and I’m sure we’ll be back at some point.

Our 10 th wedding anniversary is coming soon so we have decided to have lunch at Fairlawns hotel to check out the facilities. Restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our lunch very much. Reception lady was helpful as well when we asked about spa day. All was fine until we went to spa reception. Older receptionist didn’t seem to have any time or interest in us which we found very short sighted given we were looking to book a spa day. She told us everything is online but sometimes you want to check it out for yourself. We enjoyed lunch but won’t be using health centre as we hoped for little bit more attention than we got.

Wow our meal was amazing. Every dish was beautifully presented - Michelin style and the food was delicious. It’s what I want from a meal nothing I could ever attempt to make at home and full of wonderful surprises. Absolutely fantastic meal. So many mouth watering options to choose from menu I would need to come back. It’s just a shame I don’t live close as here for a function but I am determined I will be back! Highly recommend. The staff were friendly and attentive and the chef deserves a standing ovation!

6 of our party had roast beef, 2 kids had sausages and mash, all had food poisoning to varying degrees. I was off work 2 days, diarrhoea and stomach cramps, my niece was the same, others had mild upset stomachs and diarrhoea. The other family members had other meals and they were fine. The family members who were ill live miles apart and we only met up on that day at the restaurant, so no chance of a bug transmitting between only ourselves. The restaurant manager claimed that we must have had a bug, but how would a bug only transmit to only family members who had the same food? We even took some left over beef for our dog, and he too had an upset stomach. We were told to fill in forms for an investigation, but after speaking to the restaurant manager we felt it would be wasted time, they are not going to find themselves guilty are they? Very disappointing and would never eat there again. Our bill was around £500

The meal was the worst I've ever had at a Restaurant and will not return until things drastically change. The young staff were excellent. We had a refund which was a small percentage of the bill. I asked the cashier where the deduction came from, when she told me it was the service charge I said that was unfair it wasn't the staff at fault here but the food and asked her to put the service charge back on. A very disappointed evening

There was ample secure parking and the grounds are beautifully maintained. We were greeted immediately on arrival and looked after well throughout the meal. The manager even came over to say hi and check on us. The staff are such amazing ambassadors - by far the best service I've experienced in a long time! The food was to die for. Absolutely delicious. This was our first visit to Fairlawns, we came for a Friday evening meal, the one thing that stood out to us was the truly exceptional service from the moment we walked through the door, bar and restaurant staff were all very attentive and we found reflective of a real quality establishment. The food quality was exceptional although the pricing we felt was higher than comparative local fine dining venues and I would have liked to have had more opportunity for private break away areas for pre or post dinner drinks in comfortable high end furnishings to create more of an ambience rather than the general modern bar area. Julian the barman was very professional and friendly and very helpful

I had a voucher to spend at Fairlawns and my family (daughter, sister and niece -and myself) had a relaxing lunch/ afternoon tea in the restaurant. The hotel cater for dietary needs and provided sourdough open sandwiches for one of our party which were delicious. No lactofree milk unfortunately (which would have made the afternoon tea exceptional). I still award 5 stars however as the quality of the food was perfect. We couldn’t eat it all and the hotel provide perfectly sized individual boxes to take away food you haven’t got room for. The only cake I would leave out was the gingerbread round but the rest of the cakes and scones we’re beautifully baked and presented. The waitresses were so polite, friendly and helpful - a real credit to the high standards the hotel obviously aim for.

Enjoyed lunch here a few days ago and had a lovely time. Service was very good and food was lovely (mostly). The pork cheek and red cabbage starter was delicious, as was the chicken liver parfait. Main course of roasted cod with hispi cabbage and seafood sauce was really lovely too - well-seasoned and well-balanced flavours. We polished that off! The desserts were, unfortunately, not quite up to the same standard. The desserts were not overly-sweet (which is a good thing), but the flavours did not really wow us. We had coffee and rum poached pear (which really didn’t taste of much), though the accompanying sorbet and granola did add some much-needed flavour. The apple eclair with malted milk ice cream was slightly better, but the eclair was quite dry and, again, the overall flavour underwhelming. The ice-cream, however, was tasty. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. The savoury food was lovely - well-seasoned and flavoursome. The desserts were disappointing, though, and we would probably skip these next time. Good service. Would definitely return. Thank you.

First time here, we dined Saturday evening, good parking, very nice restaurant for that special occasion, well presented. Food was spot on and high quality ingredients. Staff good but it felt a little rushed and auto at times. Definitely 5 star but constructive criticism that could tarnish is the wine was served without a napkin causing drips in places, would have been nice for the ladies to be served first, and no fish knife for my Lemon Sole, perfection could easily be achieved but overall we loved it.

My most recent visit was with colleagues for a business dinner last week and the whole experience was faultless - given the fact that some were from abroad I was proud to be able to show off what we have in Walsall - a most pleasant surprise to them all! . As I have said in previous reviews before I have used this restaurant for many years both on business and for special occasions with family ( I don't always leave a review though). I have enjoyed seeing the business grow and change with the times and it is wonderful to get to know both John (Junior) and Victoria as they have gradually taken over the full operation from their father who bought what was little more than a guest house around 30 years ago. Given the number of times I have been there have, as one would expect, been occasional problems but the family and their teams have always welcomed the opportunity to put things right and gone "above and beyond" to restore confidence. I would say that the restaurant right now is the best it has ever been and I look forward to my next visit.

I’d been here before for afternoon tea and recommended it to my family.Unfortunately it was huge let down.Started well with nice welcome but downhill after that. Our waitress was sweet but totally inexperienced and really could have benefited from a little supervision. We felt neglected and ignored.A different waitress plonked down the ‘smoothie’ ,muttered something about berries and left us.I was also really upset that we were asked several times which ones the Vegan ,as though this was some new race! The food itself was really lack lustre in particular the ‘ vegan ‘ cakes. They were inedible. We told our waitress this and she went to tell chef then came back to say there was nothing else on offer. There were 3 of us on ‘normal’ diet but there were not enough sandwiches for us each to try different flavour but by that time we just wanted finish and go.I’m so disappointed and embarrassing as this was nothing compared to my first visit .I can’t recommend and I can’t imagine returning

Took my sister here for her birthday, the venue is outstanding, lovely gardens and the main areas ie. bar, reception and restaurant are very plush and tastefully decorated, The staff are friendly and helpful, Their lunch menu looked.quite good value £17 for 2 courses, £20 for 3. However the food portions are tiny, I know it's not Wetherspoons so didn't expect plates piled up but really?? I had salmon which was tiny, with a few luke warm potatoes, a sprig of broccoli and some garnish. Dessert was nice but equally tiny. They also mix dishes that require extra payment in with the special menu so you don't notice until you get the bill. So for £50 for 2, including 2 small glasses of wine and an ordinary coffee, we left feeling hungry. I don't think that represents good value for money, especially at lunchtime. With a few tweaks and not such penny pinching ways, it could be a regular place to visit, but as it stands a visit to the chippy on the way home is needed.

This was my first time at this restaurant and we are 2 old fogeys celebrating our birthdays. I cannot comment on the hotel and spa as we were only visiting the restaurant but the attention to detail and good service were evident from the start of our evening. I was slightly disappointed when we were shown to our table that the decor is a little too "business hotel". However, when we were shown the menu I realised that we were about to have a slightly different experience -!its not often you see Carrot cooked in Marmite on the menu. Love it or hate it, Christopher Morris, the young chef at this restaurant, is clearly trying to bring something new to the table. As a "flexitarian" I was pleasantly surprised to see how many gluten free and vegetarian dishes were offered. The meal was lovely and the young waiting staff (clearly being trained for silver service) were delightful. A delicious experience in all senses of the word.

Food always pretty good here but it can be lacking in atmosphere if you pick a week night. Sunday lunches are good and popular. Staff always helpful and attentive and very considerate to older people who may have mobility difficulties. Tastefully decorated and quiet. Afternoon tea was nothing special and scones were hard and not warmed which would have improved them. Of late, the range of veg has improved and its good to see that there is some colour as there was historically a lack of 'greens' in the meals which meant they looked less appealing to the eye. Overall, it is worth a visit if you are in the area.

This Hotel and restaurant is but 400 yards from where I was staying and we decided to have lunch out. We had already had dinner there the previous Christmas and lunch was of the same excellence. Selection was plentiful and imaginative. The chef always produces a surprise "Amuse Bouche" which sets up the taste buds for what is to come. The service is always courteous attentive yet unobtrusive. Prices are probably high for that part of the West Midlands but one gets excellent value for money. Being a "southerner" one is used to inflated prices but in this case Value is of the essence. All in all and excellent experience which will be repeated whenever we are in the area.

Had we not been asked we would not have said anything but as we were asked we said that the beef was quite fatty, tough, not succulent and with little flavour. The Yorkshire puddings were also very poor and none of us ate them. Most of one diners meat was also left on the plate. The very nice waitress said she would inform the Chef. She came back some time later and said that he offered his apologies. We said that if they were happy to give us that sort of response and nothing else and that we would be going away as dissatisfied customers and relating our experience to others then that was up to them as to how they wished to run their business. She then asked what it was that we wanted. We said that it was not up to us to decide on this but up to themselves. She said she would call her supervisor. She promptly came and offered ONE of us a free drink which we declined as we had had enough to drink being a lunch time. She then saw it fitting to knock the price of ONE coffee off the total bill. We didn't say anything about this "gesture" as it is up to them if they feel that this is adequate. On paying the bill at the desk we were asked if everything had been alright with the meal - we said that it hadn't been great. The gentleman didn't query this statement but just processed our payment Would we recommend or return - unfortunately - no.

My partner booked a surprise overnight stay at The Fairlawns with a meal included at the restaurant & what a lovely surprise it was. Everyone was nicely dressed up to go for dinner which was lovely, the staff were so attentive and lovely from the initial drinks in the bar to the table service in the restsurant. Absolutely faultless. The food was simply amazing, every single course. An amuse bouche of mushroom soup with a hint of coffee. To start - duck liver parfait & pork belly. Mains - the lamb & the cod. Everything on the plate just worked and tasted so delicious. The flavours and textures were just so impressive. And the Desserts... well what a finish... We devoured the lemon tart and the chocolate terrine, both absolutely delicious. I enjoyed every second of this meal & look forward to returning very soon.

My father in law wanted somewhere special for his birthday so we booked the Fairlawns, We haven't been for a while and were pleasantly surprised with the new reception area and comfy seating in the conservatory, All staff were polite and highly professional, The menu was excellent, the amuse bouche was a treat but I'm not going to spoil the surprise, you have to try that for yourself?I would like to thank everyone at Fairlawns for the attention you gave to my father in law to make his evening special, I think this may be the topic of conversation for quite a while yet..... Thank you x

Eating with the early-bird offer (dining at or before 7pm), this meal for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary was excellent and extremely good value. The service was understated and highly efficient, with good advice to my father regarding portion sizes. The three courses were well paced and all of the seven diners received well-cooked meals. The wine list was good with good advice for those that required it. A particularly welcome touch was a card for my parents from the staff at the Hotel and Restaurant. Highly recommended.

I tend to look at Fairlawn's as the full package offer, somewhere to go for a spa day, use the gym, function rooms etc. but on this occasion I decided I just wanted a nice place to take Deb for her birthday meal. Living in Aldridge I am, to some extent spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out, although there are no real silver service restaurants that give that special occasion option. Racking through my brain at all the places I could book, Fairlawn's came up close to the end as once again I consider this to be a full packager rather than a meal out. How wrong was I. Our night at Fairlawn's was exceptional, we had a superb experience, great customer service, fantastic food, huge wine list from affordable to silly and a friendly atmosphere. Prior to the booking I popped in to see what was on offer and had a friendly welcome, a viewing of the dining room and the option to choose my table all with smiley face and a can do happy attitude. Well done Fairlawn's a great night out.

We have been coming here to eat for many years but if I'm honest less frequently over last couple of years as we felt quality and value for money had dipped. Well that has all changed and can honestly say it's the best meal I've had in a long time. Service is impeccable and three course market menu is excellent value. I had scallop to start, rump of lamb for main and chocolate tart for dessert. Everything was cooked and presented to perfection as was the amuse bouchée. All four in our party raved about this meal. Good to see a stunning return to form!

Didn't get a chance to experience the rooms as yet, but had a phenomenal evening meal at Fairlawns. The food, the service and the ambience was quite outstanding. The head chef, is a "rock star" and the team that works with him does certainly know how to deliver an excellent meal. After dinner we asked to see the rooms, which look in pristine condition and I am already planning my next visit to experience everything that Fairlawns has to offer. Thanks

Didn't stay, but had the pleasure of dining in the restaurant and given a full show round by Mckenzie, who was very informative. The dinner was incredible, a real depth of flavour across 5 very well constructed dishes, the young chef and his team should be very proud. Attia and his team were very welcoming and looked after us all with the most professional of service. I hope to return.

Stopped here for dinner with family. This review relates to dining at the hotel only, although some of our family did stay the night here and reported that everything was excellent. Anyway, back to the food. Opted for a bar meal as there was a large wedding taking place. You enter the car parks via a barrier system – simply press the green button on entry and exit – no ticket or payment required. Large bar area with plenty of sizes and shapes of tables to choose from. Good selection of food for adults and kids alike as well as some decent wines and beers on tap and by the bottle. Order food to the side of the bar – the friendly staff will bring your drinks over to you. Food came relatively quickly. Our choices included the moules mariniere, teriyaki steak salad, fish and chips and a hot dog. The food wasn’t bad but there were a few criticisms. Most of the food was heavy on the salt – the mussels, teriyaki salad and the chips being most affected. We prefer to season our own food rather than have salt added that you can’t remove. The batter on the fish and chips was very heavy and wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste. Nevertheless, overall the main courses were pretty reasonable. Two desserts were chosen – eton mess and the fresh fruit salad. Both were very pricey for what they were. You would expect higher prices at a place like this compared to an average pub for sure but the puds pushed this a bit hard. That said, we all spent a very enjoyable couple of hours here and had a reasonably pleasant meal. The staff were universally pleasant, polite and attentive and this always makes a difference.

Fairlawns is our long time Restauant of choice for our special occasions. The food and wine is always superb and the staff all have the ability in a restaurant full of diners to make you feel that you are the only ones there. In the comparatively short time of an evening meal, the service and attention to detail from all of the staff, coupled with the quality of the food make you realise; just how good life can be.Our thanks to you all.!!Ian and Jenny Bateman

It has been many years since we visited Fairlawns and I have to say I was WOWED by the many improvements there have been. We stayed overnight so I have submitted a hotel review but the restaurant and spa were so great I felt they merited special recognition. Our package included both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were fabulous. The bar is spacious and it was lovely to have drinks served there while our order was taken before being taken through to the restaurant which has neen modernised since our last visit. It is light and airy with polished oak tables, comfortable seating and original artwork. At first sight the menu looks quite short but there was something there for everybody and there was no problem when we asked for some changes to be made to garnishes to accommodate our personal tastes. The food was superbly presented, at no stage were we over faced and by the end of the three courses that were preceded with a delicious appetiser and home- made bread we were totally satisfied. My partner did, however, ask for more fries and that was not a problem. There were many people there celebrating special occasions who were clearly not staying in the hotel and this made for a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast the following morning was equally carefully prepared - smashed avocado for me and full English for my partner. Both meals were served by friendly, efficient and caring people who did not over impose themselves. This is he BEST hotel restaurant in which we have eaten for a long time. Congratulations to everybody concerned

Well, where to start. We have been dinning at the fairlawns for the past 15 years and always had a great time. Staff have added to the enjoyment of dining at the fairlawns , and I can honestly say we have never had a bad experience.Last night (15th May) 9 of my family went to celebrate my birthday. The bar area has been extended and modernised and it looks fab.Warm, modern and inviting in neutral colours. A very young staff member took our drinks order, and we were served shortly after. The menu came, and yes it was very different to the usual selection from the Fairlawns, but we chose our dishes, without any guidance from staff, and I had to request a child's menu for my son. The staff member said that the child's menu only had chicken nuggets on and it was better to eat from the main menu. I questioned the prices for a child, and she said she would do smaller portions and charge half price. Then a young teenage male came to our table to ask us to come through to the dinning room. He had no tray to take our drinks through, and we struggled with coats, drinks, and elderly relatives with no assistance. Once in the dining room I was suprised how the look of the room had changed. It's full of wood, and it felt like I was in a section of Ikea. Gone is the rather formal look with crisp white table clothes, and tables set to perfection, and in is the wood look, with some rather dodgy art work.Carpet and chairs are the same as is the decor, so it seems like half a make over has been done, and it hasn't quite hit the mark.Once at the table I noticed that the red wine we had ordered was on the table, but had not been opened, normally red wine is left to breath. I had to ask for the wine to be opened. Then on we went to starters. I had the pate, which was tasty but tiny, and it came with 2 tiny slices of over done toast. All the portion sizes were tiny, I think they describe this as fine dining !The mains arrived I had ordered chateaubriand to share with my son, and it came with 4 slices of beef, with approximately 8 chips. My daughter had risotto, which was served on a plate with a very under done egg on top. She didn't eat this as the egg was under done.We all waited for the sides to arrive, however they didn't come. On asking the staff, we were told we had to order these as extras. At no point did the staff advise on this new concept whilst we were ordering, The Fairlawns have always provided plenty of side dishes previously. We hastily ordered some dishes and some minutes later a tiny bowl of cabbage arrived and 8 boiled potatoe wedges, just enough for one.At this point my elderly father and mother left the Fairlawns thoroughly disappointed in the meal thus far.We continued on to dessert, which was much the same. On the menu it states cheesecake , when it arrived it was deconstructed and 2 mouthfuls at best.Once again no explanation by the teenage staff. My cheese came with 6 tiny biscuits and by this time I decided to discuss matters with a manager. My son and I spoke to a lady who said she was in charge, she listened to our concerns, and deducted £7.00 off the bill, which was £468.00: rather expensive for what we had received. My point is this, if you go high end on prices and portions, you need the high end staff also. The restaurant certainly needs looking at, the ambience is not right, neither is the wood effect. The decor is the same, just some new art work added, and to be honest it makes it look like a chinese buffet. If I want fine dining I will go into the city to Adams or Purnells, and be guaranteed the full fine dining experience, and pay the price , however in Aldridge at a family friendly hotel its not what I'm looking for.Someone in the hotel has got the concept of fine dining bringing in the money, but sadly after 15 years of great memories I won't be spending my money with you again .

A group of 25 family and friends had a buffet after a funeral. I was impressed with the gardens on entering Fairlawns. We were met at the door by a member of staff and offered wine or orange juice. Or, if preferred , tea ( breakfast, earl grey or mint)and coffee. We had a large room to ourselves to sit and chat. The buffet was set out and we were left in peace. The sandwiches, pork and apple sausage rolls were very good and the quiche was delicious. Chocolate brownies were also served. All the food was delicious- i personally would gave liked linen napkins rather than paper serviettes but that is my only negative comment. When next in the area i would like to eat in the restaurant as i was very impressed with the food we were served.

the food was great but what put me off was how she treated her employees ,the girl looked like she was having a breakdown , i’ve been in there a few times before and the food has always been decent not the best but not the worst, but it was really the way she spoke to her staff ,really threw me off going again as i felt to say something because i wouldn’t like it if it was my daughter !!!!

Our second time here. Menu has changed to Ala Carte for Sunday lunch and it was great for a group of six to have such an interesting choice of dishes for each course. Great cocktails and wines with the meal. Michelin star food but at really great prices. Would recommend going for a special occasion, it’s totallly worth it.
