Restaurant at the Campanile Washington in Sunderland

The staff were very helpful and the decor was good. A carvery is what it is, but the main aspect is the meat supplied. We got small portions , and the lamb, which was apparently the last of it, was so tough as to be almost inedible. It might have been the case that they were running out, but that should hve been addressed - perhaps with the price or even an apology - it wasn't. There was also the pork crispy skin (scratchings ?) available. You would have needed a hammer and chisel to make a dent in it. Even my sons, in their thirties with healthy young teeth, had to abandon it. Very disappointing.

Basically, this place has the only Tesla chargers for miles around and is charging an obscene amount of money for a bacon sandwich.

Evening menu not adventurous but decent all the same. Pleasant service and good beer. The food was well cooked and tasty. A few other customers were tucking in to their evening meals. Breakfast servings were good and again with friendly and pleasant staff.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were all very friendly ! The restaurant was clean and food was freshly cooked!

Simple quiet hotel with friendly staff. Simple room with the basic essentials. Comfy beds Decent tv Good food No need to go for the Holiday Inn This is perfectly adequate

No choice other sausage and chips,egg sausage and chips sausage omelette and chips gammon and chips burger and chips

Good chefs both for evening meal and breakfast assisited by very good staff. I thoroughly enjoyed both meals.

OMG the best ever breakfast you have to go here especially if you want great quality food and service and as much as you want to eat all cooked fresh continental buffet included and a great selection of drinks the staff are friendly and attentive Les our waiter was lovely very efficient and made us feel very welcome you do not have to stay at the hotel just pop in for a treat

breakfast good, pick what you want on a fry up then help yourself to a selection of continental, cereals, croissants, good selection of jams,syrup home made scotch pancakes, nutella, fruit yogurt ham cheese, good selection for drinks, overall great value for money, chicken burger and chips nice, pizza lovely

0 stars isnt an option but it is certainly what they deserve. After 25 minutes sat waiting for our meals I was informed they did not have any beetroot burgers, I picked a second meal to replace to be told another 15 minutes later they had none of that one either. The result: entree served after 45 minutes ( we were the only table in the restaurant ??? ), mains took a further 30 minutes to serve after nachos- (75 minutes after ordered- once again we were the only table in the restaurant ??! ) and my partner didn’t finish and said was barely edible. I sat with no meal as they had no other vegetarian options available. We left furious that we actually had to pay good money for this rubbish service and disgusting food. Appalling. Can’t believe this place is even running. What an embarrassment.

I would never have tried this place if it wasn't for the Superchargers sited in their car park. Having driven down from Edinburgh and having found nowhere en route open for breakfast anywhere down the A68 I was more than ready for some! Full cooked breakfast plus the buffet items for eight quid - can't argue with that. Veggie sausages and hash browns were a bit oily (deep fried I'm guessing) but other than that it was fine. Coffee could have been better. As might be expected from a French chain the croissants and pastries were excellent.

We only came here to use the car superchargers in the car park but decided to kill the 90 minute wait with a beer and food in the hotel restaurant. We did not expect too much from a budget hotel but there was a good choice and very friendly and helpful staff. The food alone would only get an adequate but the charging facility increased our rating. Very quiet when we were there but a group were due to arrive just before we left so missed it being noisy or too busy. I would even consider staying here next time just for the chargers and cheaper end rooms.

Stayed here husband and I plus our dog, the staff are very welcoming when we arrived saw that we had a dog went out there way to help us the rooms arevery clean we had a TV desk tea and coffee available hair dryer very spacious plenty for room for us with a big dog. Had a lovely night sleep breakfast was amazing cooked fresh to your liking they made us up a table at the side so we could side inside with the dog unlimited tea coffee, juice and toast again staff was very friendly and would do anything to help I would definitely stay here again and it's brilliant for pets

Excellent continental breakfast included with room-rate. The coffee and croissants were especially good. The service was fine and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Recently Just stayed at the Campanile hotel. Firstly the staff were great, really friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is however slightly dated in decor. The rooms really need a bit of updating however they were comfy and clean. The breakfast was great, there wasn’t much direction as to how it worked with the cooked part but we only needed to ask to get sorted. The quality of the breakfast was great. Overall it is a nice hotel and I felt for the price it was well worth it.

Me & the fella we’re in the area for a few days and managed to scoop a bargain for the days we were there. The room was what you’d expect. It was clean and tidy with the added bonus of a bath with overhead shower. We had a night out in the bar downstairs and it was pretty quiet being only me & the other half but the girls behind the bar, Cheryl & Michelle, were absolutely lush. Literally felt like our friends and made our visit pleasant.

Stayed at the campanile hotel at the end of January and I’ll definitely be returning. The staff are very friendly and I found them very helpful. The rooms are clean with clean bedding and fresh towels. Extra available if I ask. The cleaners were happy staff who were all full of smiles and made me feel comfortable and welcome. I look forward to my next stay with you guys!!

Stopped hear last night for one night was the best bed I have slept in In a while and the staff specially Michelle really helpful and accommodating well done keep up the good work

Although this is only a small restaurant, the quality of the food and its presentation is amazing. The menu caters for everyone including veggie options. Staff take great care to present customers with high quality meals. Very tasty and mouth-watering food. Highly recommended.

Stayed at this hotel several times , very clean place all be it a little dated , limited plug sockets in room.s so we take charger packs with us or and extention socket .

We visited this restaurant just for a hot drink on our Journey from Leeds to Melrose. The hotel has a Tesla charger in the grounds , perfect for us To charge our car. We entered and all the staff ,3, were busy on the phone....

Ok food, asked for porridge which was freshly made. However poor shabby surroundings. Staff friendly though not many of them on reception each time we stood there for a while.

We called here because se the local Toby Carvery was busy. It took the person behind the counter a good 3 minutes to attend to us as she was busy writing just in front of us. Someone should tell her that her wages are paid by customers!

Cuando hicimos nuestra selección nos informaron de los platos que inicialmente estaban disponibles, platos principales elegimos y desiertos. Además de esto también informó de muchos de los platos no estaban disponibles debido a que es el final de la semana! La calidad de la comida era mediocre y no al nivel de cocina básica. Habiendo dicho que el servicio y el personal era muy amable y atento. Este posiblemente fue porque los sábados por la noche, eran una de dos parejas comiendo. No recomiendo este restaurante.

3 wonderful nights stay at this Hotel. The check in was smooth and quick room was basic but good 3 nights sleep facilities basic but good. this hotel is just of the a1 about 9 miles from Newcastle . When we checked in by I think Zoe she was very helpful explaining where to catch the bus into Washington or further to Newcastle. we asked about Breakfast and requested 3 days Breakfast.although be careful reguards taxisfrom Washington cars as we were taken the long way into concord Washington and this turned out expensive although it was cheaper returning back to the hotel after 11 Friday night.there is a free phone in the reception for these taxis .The Bus stop is about 10 minutes walk near to champs bar & grill on dunock drive ? where you get the bus to Washington Galleries then the X1 to Eldon square bus station right in the centre of Newcastle ask the driver for a day return ticket which you can also use on the Metro system. The English Breakfast was cooked fresh when you sat down not sat in a warmer like some hotels. there is a bar that serves meals and drinks in the day & evening if you wish . nothing was a problem with the staff very helpful and polite

Buen desayuno a un precio muy razonable. El personal era muy amable y eficiente. Bien vale la pena el pre pagado ofrecen desayuno si te hospedas en este hotel.

Four of us went to beamish and stayed here for a night room was really basic but very clean. The food in the restaurant was fantastic at a price. All the staff where really friendly and helpful especially Zoe. We have already booked to come back at the end of July see you then

Staff were very accommodating. Nothing too much trouble. Food was freshly cooked and plenty of it. Lots of choice. Only at hotel for overnight so cannot comment on evening meals.

Visited here for the weekend , this was not the first time we have stayed here it was a return visit , once again it was a very happy visit , food was amazing staff were very helpful and pleasant , nothing was to much trouble . Will definitely be visiting again .

Only been here once overnight so decided to try the breakfast. It was actually very good - hot, full English with all the trimmings. Nicely set up for the day. Service was good too. Maybe a bit on the pricey side?

A pleasant enough meal but a limited choice and not all seemed to be freshly prepared. The giveaway was a sauce that was served in a metal balti type bowl. While the sauce was hot the bowl wasn't.

Lovely food fast service , try the omelet, very clean excellent service from attentive staff, well kept beer and larger , would definitely use again

We have been at the hotel for nearly two months and due to the staff our stay has been made very pleasant and very welcoming I would like to thank Christine and zoe plus all the front desk staff for everything they have done for us to make our holiday so relaxing and pleasant. The housekeeping staff have been extremely hard working in keeping our room comfortable and clean at all times thanks guys.the only complaint I have is with the manager who at times has been very unpleasant and not very helpful. The changers she has made to the hotel sometimes just don't work but she won't listen to her staff who have been there longer that she has.

The breakfast here is very good value - £8-95 isn't cheap, but the selection is very good. Personal service and no hurry to finish even at 9.30 (we don't all start work at crack of dawn!)

Lovely well cooked meal. Hadn't intended to eat here as we arrived at hotel late but glad we did. Great steak.

This was never going to be gourmet dining, but as a cheap and convenient location for the business traveller next to the Campanile hotel, it was just fine.My main course, Steak Pie, Beans and Root Vegetable Mash with Gravy, was actually really good, I could almost believe it was freshly made on site. Service was excellent too, the staff were attentive and friendly. I would say it's definitely preferably to visiting the carvery nearby.

Nice friendly place, helpful staff, food not bad at all, prices for food about right but drinks are a bit pricier as you often get in a hotel bar. Not a bad place for a bite to eat..

the food wasn't nice, tasted bad, and i'd have eaten better and paid less going to macdonalds. breakfast was tiny for the price and even things like the beans, looked to have been reheated several times.the beer was flat, and overpriced.

Voor 15 pond heb je een voorafje, hoofdgerecht en nagerecht. Veel van de kaart was echter niet beschikbaar. De keuze was daardoor beperkt. Was wel vreemd omdat het om eenvoudige dingen ging zoals ijs. De bediening is vriendelijk en geeft voldoende aandacht. Wij hebben er goed en voldoende gegeten voor een redelijke prijs.

Very busy but only waited 10 minutes to be seated. Bar service was disappointing with sullen, unpleasant staff! Food was very good and an excellent vegetarian choice. Special mention to our waiter 'Liam' who was friendly, helpful and efficient and made up for the aforementioned young men behind the bar!Generally a good cheap and cheerful restaurant

Food prepared to order and very fresh. They had a bar so you could get your favorite alcoholic beverage. There is an outside area to take a drink and smoke if you wanted. Nice privacy fence decorated with hanging plants. No cash needed they put it on your room bill. Overall nice experience.

This is no cordon bleu experience but straightforward English fare. Most of the food is kind of from frozen (like chicken strips) but it is well cooked and there is a lot of it.The beers are a little disappointing but it is an hotel after all.

Don't be put off by the lack of detail given on the menu. Man sized helpings make great value for money. Get rid of those awful curly chips and lets have good old plain chips.Apart from that, I recommend you give it a try and see what you think.

Food is overpriced and the wine is ridiculously expensive. But the breakfasts are good and reasonably priced.

apparently as it was Bank Holiday and the restaurant was very quiet.However, service was excellent, the 'restricted menu' was absolutey fine and the food was first class.

We ate at the hotel on a Saturday evening. They were advertising 3 courses for £14.95, but we were told that this was unavailable on Saturday evenings so we had to order from the a la carte menu. This worked out at rather more, in my opinion, a little over-priced for what and where it was.The breakfast was very good, a large selection of cold items, fruit, cereal, croissants, etc., and the cooked breakfast was cooked while you waited rather than being stored under a heat lamp as some places do. Good value for money.
