Restaurant at Skeabost Country House in Highland

Wat problemen gehad met reservatie. We hadden gebeld en ze zeiden dat het restaurant volledig volzet was, maar online bleek dat niet het geval. Ook als we toekwamen, hebben we het eerste halfuur helemaal alleen gezeten en toen we weggingen, was het restaurant maar half gevuld. Mindere start, maar het eten was verrukkelijk en van topkwaliteit. Klasse zaak. Het is prijzig en dat mag als je zo’n gastronomisch eten serveert, maar voor dat geld verwacht je wel dat de porties groter zijn. De voorgerechten en sommige hoofdgerechten waren echt klein.

Superb food, wine and service - all in all a superb fine dining experience and would recommend the restaurant to anyone wanting a great experience.

Questo Ristorante che fa parte dell'hotel, è situato appunto in un bellissimo luogo e con un'ampia vetrata dalla quale si può mangiare godendosi il tipico paesaggio scozzese. Propone ovviamente piatti della Tradizione , perfettamente eseguiti e dal sapore deciso ( come piace a me ). Il Cullen Skink ( una specie di zuppa di Formaggio, pesce , patate ed erbette del Nord della scozia ) era davvero Buonissimo, così come l'agnello di secondo . Birra Buona ( ma hanno anche diversi vini ), così come i Whisky ovviamente . Servizio molto gentile. Consigliato se vi trovate in zona ed avete voglia di una cena tradizionale, di sostanza e dai sapori decisi ...

This restaurant was located in a conservatory in a charming Victorian hotel garden. The food was excellent, from the soup starter to the venison main. Highly recommend.

The West Pier dining room was lovely and warm ( appreciated in the cool rainy day). We ordered our meal promptly and received our app and a glass of wine each after a considerable wait. The Haggis app was good. We then waited a good hour for our main - finally at the hour mark we were assured it was on its way. It wasn’t. We asked for the check. We paid for our two glasses of wine and app (no comp). Received apologies and were told the kitchen had been very busy with a large group elsewhere in the hotel. Too bad. It’s a nice place but I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Stein in was closed on the Monday so I said let's go to Skeabost! I have stayed here and eaten here many times. We were seated right away in the conservatory with a gorgeous view. There happened to be a piper right outside our window practicing for a renewal ceremony in full Scottish regalia. Lunch and show! We ordered salad to start and the cibatta sandwhichs. My husband had the steak and I had the pepper and pesto. Both excellent. They have very nice wine choices. The best part was the server Dean. He was so attentive and helpful with our choices. He gave us all kinds of local information and history. A very kind and informative young man. We hope to see him again when we return.

Très bonne surprise pour la qualité de la cuisine et son originalité. Poisson Bar ou Loup selon l'appellation avec pomme de terre et légumes verts très goûteux. Desserts marquise chocolat et Sticky toffee et vont blanc du Languedoc excellent. Bon service et bon décor cosy.

Had a wonderful meal of very delicious food. Crab and mussel starter was wonderful, so fresh. Main meals were so rich , venison stew and lamb meatballs were very filling. Beautiful conservatory and very friendly , helpful, knowledgeable staff.

They make us sit on a wobbly table in a different room than the rest of the restaurant. When we ask for changing table, they make us change the wobbly table for a fine table. Then we saw that people arrive and they make them waited for a table in the main room. They installed several people in the main room. They explain us that they have to make us sit in a different room for dinner which was the waiting room f because the restaurant room was reserved for the hostel client. Nevertheless, in the main room, there were several table free but we couldn’t eat in the main room. We have the feeling to be second class customer even so we have payed the same as the other customers. At the least the food was good even if the portion are very small compared to the price. Because we were in the waiting room we have to wait a lot for ordering and get our food. Clearly if you want to be taken for a pasty go eat there but be prepared to paid the full price.

Het is een mooi restaurant in een hotel waar het redelijk is dat de prijzen wat hoger liggen. Maar waarom een hoofdgerecht kabeljauw dan slechts een miniem stukje kabeljauw bevat, konden zij ons niet uitleggen. Personeel was erg vriendelijk.

We came here for our last dinner in Skye and had a nice time, the food had more of the traditional vibe to it, the restaurant had nice views of the lake and the staff were very friendly. overall a very good experience.

We had a delightful time at the restaurant tonight. The service was excellent, and we particularly enjoyed Morgan, who have us recommendations. My husband had the haddock, and I had the cod. Both of us enjoyed our meals, and we shared a serving of sticky toffee pudding; it was excellent. We just wish we'd each had our own! The setting is lovely as well.

Not a hotel guest and found the service and food unacceptable for the cost. Had a 7:15 reservation finally was served some food at 8:15. Two people ordered the fish that was barely warm. They sent if back and 20 minutes later got the same plate back that had been microwaved. My 35 pound $$$$ steak was thin and difficult to cut with a steak knife. I asked for medium rare and parts were raw, inedible.. Now it’s past 8:30 and I just wanted to leave. Told about disappointment to waiter and front desk manager? They said sorry, no offer of a free dessert, take the bad meal off the bill. Do not waste your time and $$$ here.

Lekker gegeten op leuke plek op Skye. De ribeye steak was erg goed, de broccoli pie bleek geen broccoli te bevatten, maar was ook erg lekker. Dat gold ook voor de toetjes, al was de koffie al op voor de toetjes kwamen. Het bord met Schotse kazen was enorm groot voor een dessert, dat mag een tandje minder.

Very bad experience here… we booked this 3 months ahead for an anniversary but since we did not stay in the hotel, we got a very uncosy table somewhere in a corridor in front of a fridge… lake view in the main restautant seems preserved for hotel customers… the guy leading the restaurant was very unfriendly, so we left… we had a great experience at Bracken Hide !!

Terrible experience due to very unfriendly staff without any sense of custumor care taking. Booked a table for 4 persons and got two small bistro tables put next to each other in the corridor - space right before the entrance of the true restaurant, with a view on a fridge and coffee machine instead of the lake. When asking the main waiter to sit at an actual free 4-person table in the restaurant part, the waiter just replied that that table was reserved and it was impossible to switch tables (although there were multiple other tables free). Since our place was so unpleasant and quickly assemble we asked a waiter for another table, she kindly mentioned that it was impossible to sit in the true restaurant because that is only for in-house people. When we indicated we would leave then, the main waiter gave us the rude reply to leave then. So we did, went to our own hotel (bracken hide) who arranged an extra table for us although fully booked. We had a wonderfull meal at The Bracken Hide instead of this old fashioned and unfair, impolite restaurant. Don’t go there if you’re not staying in the hotel.

We werden hier naar toe verwezen door de eigenaar van B&B skeabost. Hij heeft de reservering voor ons gedaan, om hier te dineren met zijn 3tjes. Het zag er hier mooi uit en het eten was voortreffelijk.

We booked in to dine whilst staying locally. I had lemon sole followed by ice cream. It was the best fish meal I have ever enjoyed. My partner had haddock and duck for starter both excellent too. Very comfortable seats in restaurant and friendly staff. Considering quality of food and setting, we thought it was good value.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the hotel. The food (two courses) and service were excellent. The meals were generous and tasty. We started with a pre-dinner drink in the adjoining bar. The wine list was good and offered a good selection of wines by the glass. The staff were friendly and helpful.

While staying at the Skeabost Hotel, we got a last minute reservation for dinner. We ended up at a table by the window facing the loch, and the view was beautiful. The food was delicious, especially the fish and chips.

We know this restaurant as the West Pier Restaurant. It's been a couple of weeks since our visit here, and I just asked my husband what he remembers. We both remember this: the setting is gorgeous - in a "glass enclosure" on a loch. The service was quite good. The scotch, beer and wine list very nice. The food was ok, but not particularly memorable. And the young lady who stood outside (brrr) in a light drizzle playing the bagpipes was a pleasing addition to our evening. We would probably go back just for the experience of dining in that beautiful atmosphere again. it's a short drive from Portree, and (much to our relief) has plenty of parking.

West Pier, located in the Skeabost Hotel, offers local, fresh, ingredients prepared beautifully and served with a simple elegance. White table cloths and attentive service makes for a slightly formal, but certainly not stuffy, experience. Nice selection of local gins and fabulous wines! The main dining room is located in the conservatory, but we passed a very cozy room with a fireplace and folks enjoying a cocktail. Located within an easy drive from Portree, with plenty of parking, makes for a nice change from the town center restaurant scene.

Raffinato ed elegante ristorante situato in una splendida posizione, con vista diretta sul lago Snizort, a circa 15 minuti d'auto da Portree. Elaborato il menu, con proposte sia di carne (ottimo il petto d'anatra), sia di pesce (spigola, salmone ecc.); ottimi anche i dolci. I prezzi sono un po' più alti della media, ma la qualità del cibo e l'ambiente sono di ottimo livello, per cui valgono la spesa. Certamente non è un ristorante da tutti i giorni, ma si mangia proprio bene.

Un posto incredibile, davvero di gran classe, un posto quasi di lusso, ambiente carino e riservato, cibo davvero ottimo.Molto buona sia la carne che il pesce, particolari e innovativi i dolci, da non perdere i gamberi.Forse prezzi molto elevati ma il posto vale !

We booked well in advance because we were told that otherwise it is impossible to get a table. We drove 15 mins from a Portree. The restaurant is in the elegant Skeabost hotel. We started off with a Chardonnay from South Africa that was divine and put us all in a good mood. For starters we had cauliflower soup, a pot of mussels to die for, crab meat that was fantastic and a feta salad. For our main we had duck that was amazing, fillet of god and battered ale fillet of Haddock that was delicious. For desert we had the chocolate and date torte with ice cream and a platter of Scottish cheeses. This was definitely one of the best meals we had in Scotland

Great service, excellent meal choices, very good wine selection and desserts to die for. Options of chicken, fish and beef as well as vegetarian. All meals were plated nicely and scrumptious. Thanks to the chefs and wait staff for their hard work.

Visited the West Pier while staying at an Air B&B; up the way. Definitely recommend dinner reservations. Lovely setting in the conservatory. Enjoyed the fish and chips and my friend had the cod. The chicken and fig appetizer was outstanding. I had the Misty Isle G&T; there and it was excellent. Our service was lovely despite the couple next to us consistently complaining to the wait staff (which they seemed to handle with aplomb). Overall a good dinner and nice not to have to drive all the way in to Portree!

Made a last minute dinner reservation. A bit worried due to them having availability. Worries were misplaced!!! Food was very, very good and served in the wonderful setting of the conservatory. Enjoyed my meal immensely!!! Also enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the bar while exploring other areas of the hotel. You will not be disappointed!!!

Staying in Borve, just outside Portree, we fancied a change from dinner in Portree so booked dinner at the Skeabost Hotel. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the restaurant was quiet on a Sunday evening. We enjoyed our meals and the relaxed nature of the restaurant. The only cause for criticism was that my wife found that part of her chicken breast was still pink as though it hadn’t been properly cooked through. She mentioned this to the waiter. On paying the bill, the restaurant was very good in not charging for my wife’s main course and this was totally unprompted by us. I felt that the restaurant dealt very well with what was no doubt an isolated incident, and assuaged any negative feelings we might have had. We’d certainly return if we were in the area again.

The hotel and conservatory restaurant are in a delightful position, particularly when the tide is in. The food was good but pretty standard fare. The crab cake starter was a bit dull and tasteless but our main courses, fish and chips and chicken breast were well-cooked and tasty. However, the menu was on the dull side: nothing grabbed us, hence our choices. Service was friendly and efficient.

Nothing to complain about here. Prompt professional service. Delicious food, with a good variety on the menu. A bit on the pricier side, no regrets coming here. Apparently if you’re staying at the hotel, they’ll always make sure you’ll have a table at some point.

First off - we didn't stay the night as we already had a cottage for our stay. However, we were there for drinks and dinner which were fabulous. As we there for a charity dinner we had a set menu but this was stunning. The roast beef for mains was plentiful and also cooked to perfection. The service was excellent and we were well looked after.

After a long ride from Glasgow, we were a bit tired and very hungry. Our B&B; host suggested the Pier. He did not steer us wrong. We had a relaxing and delicious meal in their beautiful solarium.

Elegant setting and service. Great food. Fairly expensive but worth it. Steak was outstanding. Haddock also very good. Treat yourself.

Myself and my fiancé, regularly attend Skeabost for the Sunday carvery with our baby. The service is fabulous, they’re always so lovely. The food is also delicious and we hope the carvery doesn’t stop. We highly recommend Skeabost for lunch and dinner! It’s our favourite place to come.

I love this restaurant. I had the salmon and the fish and chips. Both were amazing! Also, they have excellent soups. The wait staff are so wonderful. Very friendly and attentive to detail. Thank you for excellent service!

Had been meaning to try this place for lunch for a while and finally made it. Food was very good (duck with dauphinoise potatoes, red cabbage and green veggies and haddock & chips). Puddings also nice (rhubarb trio and sticky toffee pudding). Service was friendly and attentive, particularly the young Italian lady. What a pity that we were the only diners. Recently redecorated dining room and excellent views on to the loch and grounds.

I had an excellent meal served by sharp, attentive staff. It almost didn't matter what was on my plate, because the servers and sommelier treated me like this was a 5-Star experience. There are some superb wines on the list at very reasonable prices, we enjoyed a great Tignanello Super Tuscan by house Antinori.

Anniversary meal here early November - it was here or the Greshornish...TripAdvisor was our compass on that decision; that and the fact that we'd taken an afternoon tea here and liked it a lot.

Wir waren auf Empfehlung unserer B&B; Hosts in diesem Restaurant. Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Platz mit Blick auf das angrenzende Loch. Das Essen war ausnehmend gut. Das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis war das beste, was wir bislang in Schottland erlebt haben. Der Service war ebenfalls ausgezeichnet. Wir werden auf alle Fälle wiederkommen.

I love Skeabost House. When staying in Skye when our sons were younger, we would come to play golf on the quirky nine hole course and then have lunch in the bar. In the winter, they would play pool or snooker while I could relax with a book in the inglenook fireplace. We have eaten an excellent dinner in the very formal dining room and also enjoyed dinner in the more relaxed conservatory on a number of occasions. This time I had brought two friends up to stay in our cottage and although Skye was very busy, we were able, at short notice, to get a table in the restaurant where we enjoyed an excellent meal. Not cheap but good value for the quality of the meal. Service was friendly and efficient. One minor suggestion. As the tables empty, keep the background music playing (this was also an issue the last time my husband and I ate here) so that we don't need to listen to the conversation at the other table(s) still occupied. As the hotel is off road, I'm not sure that passing tourists realize that it's there but, if you are visiting Skye and want a quality meal at reasonable price, it is certainly worth a visit.

Wir suchten für 2 Abende ein Restaurant in der Nähe von Bernisdale, The Pier war das einzige und gehört zum Skeabost Hotel. Wir haben dann auf gut Glück für 2 Abende reserviert. Kurz zusammengefasst: freundlicher Empfang, nettes Personal, fantasievolle Küche, exzellente Weinkarte und gute Qualität. Hervorheben möchte ich Ideen, wie zB bei den Vorspeisen den Tomatensalat (verschieden Tomatensorten) mit Bloody Mary Sorbett -> großartig; aber auch einfach Miesmuscheln als Hauptspeise - reicht für großen Appetit, gut schmeckender Sud, schöne, frisch schmeckende und ungewöhnlich große Muscheln. Auch die Nachspeisen sind empfehlenswert. Hier hat an den beiden Abenden, 2x alle 3 Gänge und Wein, alles gepasst. Am zweiten hatten wir zudem einen Platz an der Fensterfront mit herrlichen Ausblick zum Loch.

We were looking for a fancy place to eat for my wife's birthday. Stumbled upon this place. Lovely location as well as the interior. We had soup of the day, chacuterie, salmon, cod and sticky toffee cake. It all tasted very good, especially the sweet potato soup and the cod, with a nice risotto. Also compliments on the way the food was presented. Service was good and friendly. And we paid a fair price for it, not expensive. One point of critique: we got our meals a little too quick. Within 75 minutes we were gone, a bit too fast for a nice dinner for 2 to my taste.

The view at West pier restaurant was amazing, the food was great. Only if there service were great...... Here is the sequence of events:- we order sparkling water first - 5 min. Later the waitres came to take the food order. I reminded her about my sparkling water. - She took the order. We also order a bottle of wine. - after 30 min. (no sparkling water yet) and no bread or anything. She came by and asked us about the order. She said the computer messed the order.- around 45 minutes, no bread no sparkling water no wine, We asked another waitress for the water and we finally got it. - almost an hour after we order the food we got it. No bread though, and no bottle of wine.- we have to ask for the wine to another waiter and we finally got it.After that, everything was great. We considered leaving many times but that will require driving someplace else. It was obvious the waitress was new and inexperienced and she was sorry, but I have to suffer thru that.

The restaurant was recommended by our guest Margaret of Trotternish B&B. We were a party of 7 and we had dinner in the conservatory. Food was delicious and very well presented, the staff was attentive and made us feel comfortable. We had the soup of the day, a main course, dessert and whisky at a reasonable price. We enjoyed our dinner with the wonderful light of the setting sun coming through the big windows. Highly recommended.

Chef James Dixon, along with Catriona on Front of House offer not just good food but an amazing culinary journey. The food is great, I am sure awards will follow, being recently completely refurbished now, and with this food, recognition has to be imminent. Believe me, the food is fantastic, I have to go back! I am thankful to our tour guide for taking us to the Skeabost House Hotel and the Pier for a group lunch. We had the amazing traditional Cullen Skink soup - will anyone please give me the recipe.

We received a lovely warm welcome from all members of staff. The meal was excellent and the new conservatory surroundings delightful. Well worth a visit. Well done.

While staying at the Skeabost Hotel, we took good advantage of the restaurant. Extensive menu with fresh local food. We enjoyed everything we ordered including desert with "Skye Coffee"

The country house is on the grounds of a golf course. You can have drinks Ina separate room before you have dinner. The meal was delicious and the portions were good.

On our recent visit to Skye to visit friends we decided to visit the Skeabost Hotel for an evening meal. The hotel is situated in a beautiful spot and has a grand feel as you enter. We ordered drinks in the bar area which was a very well appointed with attentive staff where we had time to peruse the menu and place our order.Once our starters were ready we were shown through to the conservatory providing good views of the grounds and the loch. The menu was varied with a selection of fish and meat dishes, it was attractively served and our party could not fault the meal in its entirety. It was certainly well worth the visit and we will beating there again on our next visit to Skye.

From carrying on the tradition of ordering from the bar or lounge to the table service, the Skeabost Hotel Restaurant provided outstanding service. Luxury dining at it's finest. The restaurant is situated in an atrium providing a view of the hotel grounds and the loch. The food was fabulous and fresh. While a bit pricey, definitely worth it.

A nice place to go for dinner especially if you sit in the conservatory over looking the Loch. Really good attentive service with lovely food. Would definitely return.

Went for a taster menu. Six courses, each accompanied by appropriate wine.Held in the snooker room which has been refurbished to a very high standard, Holds a maximum of twenty round the table. The food was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The staff were efficientand not at all intrusive. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

We first ate at the Skeabost three years ago Whilst staying at a B&B (Garybuie) near Uig. Then we had a so-so bar meal that wouldn't have won any prizes. We probably wouldn't have gone back this year if our B&B hosts hadn't told us that the Skeabost had been upgraded and refurbished. We were so glad we did visit as it was everything that we look for in a restaurant - well-cooked, beautifully presented food in sensible quantities, in beautiful surroundings and at a reasonable price. Also, the staff were amazing, friendly, welcoming and attentive. Apparently some people think the portions are small and I suppose if you want a plate piled high with chips you'd be better off going somewhere else. If, however, you prefer sensible portions I'm sure you'd love it like we did.

Hard to know whether to look at your plate or the lovely view! We chose to eat here on our first night in Skye because we were staying within walking distance. Really unusual décor. I found myself touching the wallpaper to see if it was really made of animal skin! A lovely old building refurbished to a high and daring standard- successfully. Lovely food, excellent service and a fabulous view across the loch. Peaceful. Tranquil. Quality. What more can one ask for

We originally booked lunch at the Duisdale on Friday 27th May and rang on the morning to change the time due to other commitments only to be told that the Hotel needed to speak to us. They eventually rang and said a wedding was booked there and no other diners were being entertained. I suggested that we should have booked a different restaurant last week only to be told that Skeabost was just as good. How very disappointing it was. The waiting staff were inexperienced although attentive. The food however was terrible and very expensive. The two portions of haddock and chips were undercooked and almost raw underneath plus swimming in grease. The duck terraine had never seen a duck and was tasteless. Not food one would expect if it had been cooked by a leading chef as we led to believe by the woman that rang from |Duisdale this morning. Overall a dining experience not to be repeated which is a shame as we are locals.

Dined here tonight at the recommendation of our B&B hostess. The staff treated us superbly and the meal was utterly delicious, big on flavour rather than quantity. The dining area is pleasantly set in a conservatory overlooking the golf course.Overall a 5 star meal. Pity I was the designated driver

We dined here yesterday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was good and tne situation on the lochside very pleasant. The menu was varied with good selection of both meat and fish dishes and when the food arrived it was attractively served and the quantities not over facing. We were surprised to learn later that the menu rarely changes which would have been disappointing had we made a return visit or been staying at the hotel.

We had a super night a wee drink at the bar first then a delicious meal the whole place has been re vamped to a very high standard its setting is amazing and on a super sunny night just greatTry it you will love it

Eclectic choices and local ingredient sources for a small but tasty menu. Service superb. Not rushed. Great place for a special meal.

We stayed at the hotel and had a lovely dinner. The vegetarian options were fantastic and the salmon prepared to perfection with a scrumptious sauce, mashed potatoes and crisp fresh vegetables. We also had breakfast which was delightful. Fresh fruit, yogurts, eggs, toast, spicy tomato juice shots and lovely cakes. Enjoy!

The recently redecorated Skeabost had the sun shining in its favour when we arrived over its lush grounds, waterside pathways and adjacent golf course.The staff welcomed with bright smiles and we sat down to a pre dinner drink choosing some local options. The bar and the restaurant itself has nice touches but the food served was very good indeed and my wife swears by the salmon main that she had.Ample outside parking and good access makes this one for disabilities too.

Not very original nor different menu in comparison with the hotel category but excellent vegetarian option. Gluten free bread available upon request.

I had the privilege of having my birthday dinner in the gorgeous Billiard Room on Saturday. We had the most delicious dinner - beetroot cured salmon, fillet of beef, creme brûlée and shortbread, Scottish cheese - all scrumptious. The room looked stunning, the service was excellent and unobtrusive, and the hotel, particularly Neil, dealt with my endless questions very diplomatically! The hotel is currently being brought back to its former glory and the love and care the Skye owners are giving it is obvious in every touch. For a special occasion, it can't be bettered - we had the most fantastic evening. Can't thank everyone at Skeabost enough - just want to do it all again!

If you are lucky enough to have a window seat overlooking the sea loch and the sunset of your dreams appears(as it often will) then you would enjoy just a fish supper here! But even without the view and sunset, the food is most excellent, using local produce and cooking with skill, imagination and understanding.Ham and Duck Terrine - 5*s Beetroot Salmon Trio - 5*Trio of Pork - 5* Duck Breast - 5*sCoffee and Wine list also five star!Complimented by very helpful, friendly and professional bar and dining staff, this package has to be enjoyed at least once in your life. I commend it unreservedly to all who enjoy good food, good wine and good surroundings

Over the years on our trips to Skye we have seen and driven past this hotel but thought it has looked run down. However in the last year or so it has been taken over by the couple who own the Duisdale on Sleat so this trip we decided to visit for afternoon tea. We arrived about 5.30 which by anyone's standards is quite late for afternoon tea but were warmly welcomed by the manager/ head of front of house who happily invited us to take a seat by the fire in the lounge and he was 'sure the chef could make us a pot of tea and warm a scone' and he most certainly did! It was beautifully presented and they took as much time and effort with us for tea and scone as if we had ordered the tasting menu and most expensive wine. I got a sneaky peak in the private dining room - stunning. We live in Edinburgh and have no shortage of smart hotels with beautiful dining rooms and absolutely the Skeabost could give places like Prestonfield and the Bonham a run for their money!! Well done and I hope we get the chance to go back some time soon.
