Had an excellent lunch with friends. The chicken tempura & parfait of chicken liver (pâté) for starters were followed by the Indian spiced lamb curry were delicious. The service was prompt & friendly; the food arrived in a timely manner. The one part of the restaurant section facing west gives a wonderful view of Troon and the Clyde.

Prawn Cocktail was just as if they had emptied the frozen prwans into the bowl, along with the water (not drained) and added a tiny drop of Marie Rose sauce. It was icy cold and tasteless. The other courses were O.K. but just O.K. nothing special. Had Merangue for dessert, only a spoon provided, no fork, the merangue was flying all over the place. Trying to save on washin cutlery. Service was slow and staff not very friendly. Only asked one half of the table if the wanted coffee. Bill was £95 per couple !! Not worth that, don't mind paying if the food is good. My husband took the Xmas pudding, which was about the size of a shortbread finger. Won't be back.

We were visiting my in-laws in Troon last week and they booked for us to go to Highgrove. Delighted to see the newest menu was much reduced from the last version. The delight didn’t last long. Apart from the view from our table, nothing was good or even average with our meal. I had the parfait to start - the garlic toast was dry and burnt at the edge, the parfait was slimy and tasteless. My mum in law and husband had the chicken for main. The plates arrived scaldingly hot but all was explained when the started to eat the now - leatherised chicken. Hot lamp much? Oh yes and when they had ask the waiting staff where the smoked sausage with it was (there was none) it wasn’t addressed nor was the bill adjusted. I had the poached salmon, a dish which looked exactly like the chicken, almost as if several plates were made up the same and a different main plunked on top. The salmon was over cooked (hot lamp?) and I left most. Btw guys, if half the plate is mash and a bit of sautéed potato, chips as well is a bit carb heavy for most folks. Either way, the salmon, like the chicken was over cooked. The staff need A LOT OF training…”Whit youz wantin’ tae ordur?” Or “Zat youz done?” or serving plates with a bang and thud doesn’t speak “Luxury restaurant” to me. Neither does wee metal tent table numbers! And to cap it all, later that night and into the night, I had the worst indigestion I’ve ever had and an upset digestive system 😷 for a few days after. Highgrove is the very definition of “all fur coat and no knickers”. The view is great but that’s it. The rest is pretension, poor service and rotten food. I wasn’t paying but, no matter. If the in-laws tell us they’ve booked there again, I’ll be asking them if we can please go somewhere else. If you’re reading this ahead of a booking, do yourself a favour, cancel and go elsewhere!

Took my partner and grand daughter for Sunday lunch to celebrate Higher results. Its a place we take visitors and go roughly once a year. Always been very happy with food and service so was very disappointed today to discover both have slipped. Some of the staff were so despondent that they looked as if a court was making them do Community Service. Food, which previously was excellent, was now fair to middling. Presentation was an afterthought. Main courses took a while to arrive and side orders took even longer. Plates were too hot to handle. I assume because they had been left under the grill for too long. Also explains why the dishes were so dry. Be a while before I go back.

Lunch in the west facing restaurant with fantastic views of the Clyde & Arran. The lunches are normally fine except this time I went for the French Onion Soup. It looked absolutely fine. Unfortunately it was somewhat salty & it was marginal whether I should send it back. Mentioned it to the waitress when collecting the dishes. It is a pity the chef didn’t sample the food before presenting it? The rice bed with beef strip was delicious.

After a quick web search we booked by telephone on the day before our arrival. What luck dropping on this place purely by chance! It’s a fabulous small hotel and has an amazing restaurant. The food is absolutely fantastic, and they don’t skimp on the portions either so make sure you’re hungry! Rooms are lovely, clean and spacious, although very slightly ‘tired’. We were informed that they are soon going through the process of refurbishing them. All the staff were super friendly and courteous. Couldn’t fault anything. We went to Highgrove on Christmas day for our dinner as a family. I felt there was no Christmas atmosphere. The meal was OK but not worth the £70 per head. Table service was not good and it was very obvious other tables were being catered for a lot better than we were, possibly regulars to the restaurant. I was so looking forward to our family Christmas meal and it being a memorable occasion but was very let down by the service, atmosphere and disregard to our table.

We were out for Sunday lunch today and visited Highgrove where my wife ordered the roast beef. Everything on the plate was excellent except the extra mature beef, which was tough - tasty but tough. She only ate half the beef and the waitress asking if everything was alright was really good - she offered a replacement meal which was declined as we didn't want a fuss. We were charged full price for our meal, which I paid without quibble. However, the upset/disappointment was on discovering at least two other people had made the staff aware that the roast beef was tough and it still continued to be served to unsuspecting customers. The really poor attitude of the Manager to one customer's complaint in saying it was tough because she asked that it be well done, so it was her own fault was appalling. He is definitely in the wrong job. My wife took the beef as it came and it was also tough - they should have removed it from the menu rather than keeping on serving it.

On arrival was shocked to find that there had been no effort in supplying the special dietary requirements. The vegetarian guests were given three finger sandwiches that was it, nothing else offered, the gluten free guest was similar three finger sandwiches and nothing else offered as for the vegan there was nothing offered at all, when I spoke to a staff member about this, the only choice offered was cucumber sandwiches and again nothing else. Got the feeling that the hotel staff weren't very interested, they should not have taken the booking knowing full well they cannot cater for special dietary needs. No deduction was offered for this appalling service.

My sister in law Debbie had booked the Highgrove Troon for a family evening meal on the 1st of January.with her family and asked if my wife and I would like to join them.Debbie is 57years of age and has stage 4 liver cancer and wanted us to have a new years meal together as a family as she faced an uncertain year ahead of her. The table had been booked for 3pm and then was re-arranged for 6pm because of the additional bookings. My wife had been to the Highgrove on three occasions with a number of her professional working colleagues for evening meals. She was very keen for me to go with her for a meal with her because of her previous experience of good food and location. On arrival at the hotel with the family we were taken to Rest I which covered 6 adults and 1 small child. We placed an order for draught soft drinks which we sent back because it had no taste drinks were replaced with bottled coke. Our starter arrived and my nephew's wife and myself placed an order for mussels as a starter. Mussels Mariniere with white wine Garlic Shallots and a little cream served with garlic bread. Some of the mussels were closed when the starter arrived with the sauce tasteless and thin. I spoke to the young waitress and was asked If I would like to speak to the manager which I did. On speaking with the manager he told me that he had tasted the sauce and would sort it with the kitchen. When the main course arrived our plates were warm but when the potatoes and vegetables arrived the serving dishes were slightly warm with the vegetables and potatoes also slightly warm. I then took them up to the bar area and informed the passing waitress that the vegetables were cold. When the waitress finally arrived back the vegetables were slightly warmer than when they were first served. The potatoes did not taste fresh and were obviously been made up earlier on and placed into serving dishes for microwave heating when service was required. When we orded coffee it was not fully warm although the outside of the cups were warm. The family were telling me not to complain as I had done enough complaining. When we asked for the bill it amounted to £181.00p. There was no was everything ok and did you enjoy the food and service. My nephew paid the bill using his credit card after we gave him our share of the bill. Once again at the reception desk he was not asked if he enjoyed his meal and if everything was okay. You can make the excuse that it was the 1st of January and the restaurant was busy with the staff tired after a busy day? You can make any excuse but at the end of the day I will not be back at the Highgrove Hotel Troon.

Everything was just really poor from start to finish and this used to be a quality establishment- what has happened? I am left truly disappointed. From the poor menu options, luke warm food, fatty sirloin, lack of veg, poor service and price tag that was unjustified given the deplorable experience.

Hadn’t been for some time and had very fond memories of this being a go to destination. Had booked dinner bed and breakfast. Reception unmanned and various servers passed us by with no acknowledgement. On registering room was very nice with Free wi fi. Had a drink in the small lounge in front of nice fire but rate of service was a warning of what was to come. Dinner menu decent range and decently priced. Very nice glass walled dining room with spectacular views. Tables very close to one another and I found it pretty noisy for a Sunday night. Mussels with a supplement very bland and bread roll on side plates brought as an afterthought wasn’t great. Portions were good sized and my wife’s chicken good. My liver not as good as I’ve had in Cochrane Inn. Both dishes were served on plates which were scalding hot. Retired to lounge for coffee and liqueurs and again another interminable wait for service. Breakfast , after a good nights sleep in the excellent bedroom was good and the server very pleasant and efficient. All in all not the worst but not to the standard I had expected from visits to other Costley establishments.

Took my mum for a birthday breakfast and we were both very disappointed. Got the light breakfast and added potato scone. The sausage tasted sour and the potato scones were soggy, not sure they had even been fried. Told waitress about the sour taste from the sausages and were told the other 2 customers had sausages and theirs were fine, she would get the chef to check though. Never heard a response and on leaving no apology about the sausages and were charged full price for a far below par breakfast. Will not be returning to this restaurant. Need to improve on your customer service I’m afraid

Generally good except for the tablet 'dessert'. It was basically just three bits of tablet on a little plate. Very underwhelming. Could have just bought a packet in supermarket for less price.

We were invited to lunch and as it was our first visit we were looking forward to the outing. We were not disappointed and had a very enjoyable visit. Comprehensive choice of starters, mains and sweets, and of course the views over to arran made the perfect setting.

This restaurant sits high up overlooking Troon and on a sunny day dining in the conservatory is very pleasant.

You should go for the view. The culinary arts are in fine fettle, we had a lovely lunch. Well prepared and delivered by friendly staff...but it's the situation that takes this restaurant into another sphere. I'd go again for the view....and I know the meal will be good so it's a winner.

Good choice on the menu, food was very fresh, hot and service flawless. Mixes traditional Scottish hotel/restaurant along with more modern touches.

We had a delicious meal in this lovely restaurant. The menu was extensive with lots of great fish dishes- although it was a pity the mussels were not available.

The name Costley has, for a long time, been a mark of high quality food at very reasonable prices. Highgrove has also the advantage of having one of the most stunning views to enjoy while dining. Having patronised Costley establishments for many years, to return for a holiday was an opportunity to savour their fare. It has to be said that, while the ambiance of the restaurant is still impeccable, the standard of food has slipped a little. Perhaps the fact that Mr Bill Costley is not so directly involved, with his precision demands and eagle-eyed attention, is beginning to tell? Nevertheless, the Highgrove far out-strips all competition in the area.

Very enjoyable relaxed lunch. Full menu with many choices. All courses were excellent just make sure to leave room for an ice cream sundae. To top it all off a wonderful view of Troon, Ailsa Craig and Arran.

Food was very good, service friendly but a little slow. Great view. Nice selection of a variety of food from seafood to meats. Deserts were also good. Moderately priced and relaxed atmosphere. Recommend this restaurant.

We booked a table here on our way back from Arran for the views. The weather gods decided that we should concentrate on the food instead and we were not disappointed. The chicken liver parfait was excellent as were the other starters. The salmon main was lovely and the fish and chips were good too. The staff were excellent, efficient and attentive without being over present. A good choice and in different weather the views would be magnificent.

Went here for a meal on Saturday night I had half lobster very small For £17.50 also the service was not great order our main meal with a bottle of wine, we had to ask for the wine after 20mins and there was for people behind the bar just chatting. Bottle of wine was £18.95 and to be honest it probably cost them about £3.00 a bottle if your lucky had Costleys label on it and said was a savignon Blanc from France was disgusting. For a place with high standards much needs improved will not be back in a hurry. Shame was our first night out since being married without the kids.

We arrived about 30mins early for our lunch which was booked for 1:30pm. This was not a problem for the staff. We were shown to our window table in the conservatory. Although the weather was extremely warm they had opened the doors onto the balcony and there was a gentle cooling breeze. Our order was taken timeously and the food arrived quickly. The food was excellent and well presented. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. We have eaten in this hotel on several occasions and have also had an overnight stay. We were not disappointed on this visit. We will certainly return.

Usually eat here and never had an issue. Today we called and waiting 15 minutes and not served. Approached the counter and older lady said it was table service and take a seat. (We knew this but had waited). Sat back down and waited nearly another 15 minutes and nobody took our order. We were walked past several times by staff and ignored. Left and went elsewhere. Really disappointed at being made to feel so embarrassed after others noticed clearly and those arriving after us were served. Will sadly not return as left to feel like we were deliberately being ignored. Completely embarrassing experience.

We live between Deeside and Dorset and rarely in Ayrshire but down for wedding and decided to go to Scott’s as knew the owners through business over 20 years ago when they just had a couple of places & heard a lot about their massive success . Honestly , we couldn’t fault it and … we eat out a lot . From a genuinely lovely welcome from Beth to excellent service from all the staff ( Isabelle was particularly charming & efficient ) - wonderful choice of menu , terrific cuisine and good value for money …. With a charming view . Some people look to find fault wherever they go but , we genuinely found Scott’s faultless ( inc toilets , decor etc etc ) . Absolutely SUPERB - 10/10- well be back and Soon 🥂

The sandwich was simple but nice enough. Tasty cheese and ham. The macaroni was awful. Cold sludge made from cheap ingredients. Possibly the worst I've had. The place itself is fine but they really need to review their catering. It could be so much better

What a wonderful shop and cafe the hub of the local community. The manger Alex and Young worker Becca are fabulous such excellent customer service. I'm currently walking the entire UK coast path solo for the RNLI with my Big agnes tent Aggie since July 4th over 7,600 walked and I am staying at a campsite nearby yo rest a sore ankle. Wow I arrived and was treated like a local welcomed in offered coffee and cake. The atmosphere was heartwarming everyone happy picking up provisions hot food or stopping by for a chat. A lost dog was found and kept amd cuddled by a staff member till the happy owner arrived to claim his doggy ❤️ fully recommend this wonderful place. Thank yoy manager Alex 5 star .
