Refined in Mansfield

Visited here on a Tuesday as a last minute decision! Very accommodating as we were nearer the end of service! Starter was very nice, mushrooms on toast. Bread tasted very much like shortbread but the mushrooms in sauce were delicious. Main was chicken chasseur, absolutely delicious! Chicken was very tender it fell off the bone and the gravy was full of flavour. The mash potato was perfect and the veg was cooked to perfection! The chocolate tarte was very tasty. Overall the service was very good, staff were still a little nervous as they were new to the role but very polite. Very reasonably priced and we will definitely be returning.

We had a menu paired with wine - 3 courses of lovely food, well presented . It was a friendly atmosphere and the students were attentive and made the evening most enjoyable. We were a large U3a group and they coped with us all very well. We have been before and probably will come again!

Fantastic restaurant. We have been loads of times this academic year. Food and service is second to none and the students have been brilliant! Looking forward to booking next year. All the supervisors are incredible and do an amazing job!

This is one of our favourite places to eat. The food is wonderful and beautifully presented. The students are a delight and a credit to the College. Such good value too! Well done and thank you to all concerned.

Mansfield u3a Dining so Refined Twenty eight of our Mansfield u3a member’s met up once again at Refined Dining at West Notts College. Following several previous visits our u3a diner’s were once again back for another excellent dining experience. Such is the quality of the food and service, hence the frequent visits and todays cuisine did not disappoint. Set in a nice relaxed atmosphere, where diner’s are not put under pressure, and with ample time for chatty catch-ups. Options of two or three courses, with pre-meal drinks. Today’s special mocktail was Strawberry with Elderflower Cordial of which several of our members partook. All glasses were duly emptied, and proved to be a popular pre-meal choice. We must pay credit to the young students who work hard to not only cook the beautifully prepared meals but serving our tables in the most courteous manner. A truly value for money experience. I’m sure our brilliant Social Committee will be looking and booking again, so please don’t miss out and get your names down early to avoid disappointment.

Absolutely wonderful food as usual. The whipped goats cheese was delicious, paired beautifully with the poached apricots. The steak melted in my mouth and the desserts were simply delicious. The service was fantastic. Very easily wheelchair accessible ♿️ with a huge accessible toilet. Absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend.

The food was absolutely sensational one of the best meals I had in a long time when being out. I visited as my son is a student here and is doing really well. The 3 course I had was amazing credit to all the staff. Thank you for a great meal

Business dinner, great location, easy to find, great company and overall a very interesting location. I don’t believe it’s open for the general public to use, I was lucky to be invited to attend. Food was fantastic, service professional and friendly, very enjoyable evening and with like minded individuals.

My 4th time at Refined and this had to be the best one. The food was amazing and presented very well. We had amazing servers Orla and Lilly, they kept checking up on the table to ensure the service was kept on top of, they did very well to say how busy it was with a larger table in as well. Overall I had an amazing time and was very satisfied with the service, will definitely be coming again 👍.

The food was amazing service great our waiter was Jake who was very pleasant. Well done to all of the students well worth a visit!!

The food, as usual was absolutely amazing. It is a joy to see the students (catering and front of house) doing so well in their endeavours. Our server, Cody Wragg, was welcoming, friendly, attentive and very polite and courteous answering any questions without hesitation, he was a credit to the restaurant. Price was extremely reasonable compared to other restaurants of a similar calibre, bearing in mind that Refined is a working student run establishment as part of the college.

Had my first visit to Refined today and was blown away by the quality! The food was delicious, affordable and there was a lovely selection to choose from. The service was incredibly fast and particular thanks go to our student waiter, Cody. He had a lovely attitude, cracked a few jokes with us and was very welcoming. Cody made sure to check on us throughout the meal and made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Will definitely be coming back!

This was my second visit, I would go more often but it's so great it's hard to get in! We had a lovely meal which was beautifully presented and was well worth the money. Our server Jude was a delight, so polite and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place.

This place was amazing and a joy to go to to help support students. The surroundings and atmosphere were lovely, students welcoming and food was amazing. Such a lovely place for lunch and price is just reasonable for the experience. We have already rebooked for our next day off! Variety of set menu meant we had plenty to choose from. Highly recommend.

The team was really attentive and kind, especially our waiter Jude. He was very polite and friendly also looked after us very well, well done guys! We had a great time.

My first time here (for Burns night) and had a really excellent time. The service was really good and the food was excellent and such good value. Will definitely be coming back again.

Went with my partner to the wine tasting we ith z set menu absolutely loved it, fantastic service from the waitress and waiter my partner got on really well with Danny, same daft sense of humour, he told us he's finishing the course soon and has a permanent job. I'm already looking to book again Return visit for Burns night serviced by Collin and Cody again excellent service nothing to much trouble, excellent meal very difficult to choose will be booking again.

Excellent food and great value. It is nice to be able to support students and help them to build their confidence. Update January 2024. Another great meal and very nice to see that they are opening new private dining pods (heated) outside of the main restaurant. I believe they are for groups of up to 6 people.

Great food and service from students

As a group we visit Refined several times a year and have yet to be disappointed. Visited last night for a festive meal and we all agreed this was one of the best meals we had eaten. The lemon tart was worthy of a ‘Paul Hollywood handshake’ it really was exceptional. Service and whole experience was excellent.

The Forest Town u3a a party of 35 had their Christmas lunch there today, food was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, this was our third Christmas lunch , we will be back next year, thank you Joanne

Mum & I love to go every year for Christmas Lunch , it is really super , loved the napkin made into a Xmas Tree , crackers are a nice touch , the food was absolutely delicious, loved every course , tables well spaced out .Even had a real Xmas Tree ..Staff are all so attentive too .. so reasonably priced too .

Went to the American themed night the restaurant was decorated very well with American flag bunting the music was appropriate for the evening and the choice of food was excellent the staff were all so polite and friendly and our waiter Joe was superb nothing was to much trouble all in all this is the 3rd time I've visited the restaurant and I must say it's one of the best well done all concearned👍👍

Visited refined for the first time dining in the evening for Italian night. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table where our waiter quickly took our drinks order and left us with a menu to select one from a choice of three for a starter, main and dessert. The tables are nicely spaced and the place decorated subtly to reflect the theme of the evening. The food was outstanding with each course full of flavour and we especially loved the cheesecake with amaretto raisins - what a unique and delicious mix We didn’t feel rushed so enjoyed a romantic meal with drinks (I had the cherry bubble mocktail which was spot on) and chatted to the students as they were very attentive but in a relaxed way At £22 a head it’s a wonderful choice for a meal out with staff that may still be students but are every bit as professional as those in award winning restaurants - the place is smoothly run and was a pleasure to visit We will be back to sample again

Once again we have had an amazing meal at Refined tonight. It was Chinese night, the food was amazing. The young staff waiting on were very attentive, pleasant and welcoming. Looking forward to going again for the Christmas menu.

Great food and great service as always

Retford U3A Dinner and Weavers Wine Event . A large group of us [ 20]attended this event in june 2023 . The college is to be congratulated on providing us all with a wonderful tasting menu and wine pairing by Weavers Of Nottingham . Service and food were both outstanding in value for money and quality . Jo who co-ordinated the event was on hand throughout . A very big thankyou to all the students involved and wishing you all the best in your future careers in catering and hospitality .

Wow. What a wonderful evening spent here. This is the first time we have all come to Refined and couldn’t fault the experience from start to finish. I booked with you well in advance (your very popular). On booking I explained we had a gluten allergy and you swiftly sent over a gluten menu with what you could/couldn’t accommodate. Our Gluten Intolerant friend was ecstatic at the results. The booking was well planned, preorders accepted, which made the night run smoother and the allocation of one of the pods made it a very indulgent evening. The food itself was incredible, every course that came out was piping hot, beautifully displayed. It was a lovely touch that the crackers and rice were gluten free for the whole table. The staff were exceptionally, extremely efficient and enthusiastic and couldn’t do enough for us. Drinks reasonably priced and a good variety. All in all it was a lovely evening that we all very much enjoyed! Thank you so much! We shall be back again!

Another great night spent at Refined restaurant. We attended the Tapas evening. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding . Thank you to everyone for the super service we received that evening. Definitely our favourite place to eat in and around Mansfield!!!

We went for the Deep South evening and it was absolutely wonderful. The restaurant was a lovely setting and the food was great. The staff were very attentive, I would highly recommend a trip here if you can get in!

Lovely group meal. Well catered for. Food excellent, no complaints

Menu was very limited and not helped by two of the items becoming unavailable. It was also very difficult to read as there was nothing to distinguish between each serving. My fish stater was over cooked. The cauliflower serving between starter and mains was the worst thing I've ever tasted. No seasoning insipid water with a very geasey crouton floating in it. My mains was lovely. But it had taken one and a half hours to make and be served. Pudding. The ginger and rhubarb pudding may as well not had the rhubarb on it as it was tasteless and slimy. I know the students are learning but maybe a tutor just needs to taste and check the menu before signing off on it.

Just paid our latest visit to Refined for dinner - excellent as usual. Amazing food and service. You can not get a better meal for the amazing price of £21 for 3 courses. Looking forward to our next bookings in April & May

We have been here as a social group quite a few times now for lunches and more recently for an evening meal. Every time the food has been amazing and the service superb. Obviously some of the servers are more confident than others - but that depends on if they are first years or second years and this is a training restaurant. We normally go several times during their academic year and it is great to see the confidence grow in the young people on each visit. Plus even with the less confident servers, there are always supervisors and staff around to make sure everything is going right. Can't wait until our next lunch here ... in just a few weeks!!

We came to Refined it was amazing from the service too the food. Mijde served us he did an brilliant job we had to get him to spell his name as we wasn't sure . Can I just say a massive thank you to Danny aswell who asked me if I wanted my dinner to be kept hot while I was feeding the wheelchair user Danny also had a keen eye to detail to ensure we had the best time here at refined. We were treated to dinner at Refined as a Christmas gift with friends. What a wonderful experience in a really lovely and relaxing environment. I love that the restaurant is run entirely by students as part of the hospitality courses run at the college, whilst being supervised by tutors, giving the students a real to life experience of working in the sector. We were having the seafood tasting menu and inwas delighted by every course. The food was prepared and cooked and served in a professional manner. Our party of four all had different favourites, I was so impressed by everything. My only critique being that we were not told which each dish was at it was served. Such amazing value and a great opportunity to support the students. I will definitely return.

Without a doubt the best food in Mansfield and very reasonably priced. Staffed by hospitality and culinary students from the uni. It's a rare treat and will make you forget you're in Mansfield for the evening

Took Mum for Christmas Lunch , we were blown how how fantastic everything was. Ample free parking , easy to find, the spacious room was very welcoming , even had a beautiful Xmas Tree .The food was so delicious , the bread is home made & excellent , starters delicious, I had the soup, mum had the terrine , turkey dinner & salmon both superb , Xmas Pud & creme anglais perfect ending to a superb meal..looking at nooking again straight away .Try you will love it. Great Value & the Students are really good.

Had a lovely evening, the service was quick, but not rushed. The staff / students were all very polite and friendly.

The start time was fine, 19.45, the selection of food and wine was very good, the service and price was also good. Our only issue was the speed of each course was too quick. We were the last to leave and it was 21.00. This is far to quick for any 3 course meal but more so with a excellent choice.. Please review my comment as we have booked again and would prefer more time between each course as per the French!!

From the moment we were shown to our seats to leaving has been a beautiful experience, our waitress Annibell was just so nice and professional all the staff were the same,the quality of the food was second to none,so we'll done all you students,can't believe I've worked there three and half years and never visited, but will definitely return,lovely pleasant afternoon.

Excellent service and Amazing Food. First visit was the curry which was 8months ago. When for the second time 16th March, where I had the beef stroganoff with rice, Roast Potatoes along with a cheese and onion quiche. This was from a buffet menu which was also great. Highly recommended. Well done to the staff and students that run it.

My wife and I attended the Titanic themed evening and the food and service were both excellent. The food looked and tasted amazing and was generous in its proportions. The service was also of a high quality and very friendly and attentive when required. Highly recommended.

What a fantastic return for refined tonight! Me and my partner were extremely impressed with the fantastic service and tasty food! Refined is truly a hidden gem and you have to come to appreciate just how amazing this restaurant is. The new location of the restaurant is a massive improvement and it looks absolutely stunning! The students who served us tonight were all fabulous and they’re sure to do well in their time with you! Tonight, The themed evening was pub classics and I’m sure to say it was executed beautifully! The food was top standard and you’re sure not to find not too many places in the Mansfield area that can compete with the quality of the food and it’s price. Thank you for such a lovely evening refined and a big shout out to Clara for running the evening so well and professionally. We cannot wait for our next return, we certainly won’t be leaving it late! 😋

Really excellent food. It was the Graduation Tasting Menu. Absolutely brilliant. The only one negative thing in the entire 7 course menu was the wild garlic sauce, which was like wasabe, but I'll be able to taste garlic tomorrow evening. The rest...sublime. From the starters right through to the dessert, perfect balance of flavours, textures and temperatures - the compressed tomato quarters were an unexpected delight, I simply didn't think it was possible to cram that much flavour into something so small without it being overwhelming. I can't praise it enough.

Wow, this place isn't sitting still during these uncertain times. Catering for staff at the college at the moment, the restaurant is working incredibly hard with its student chefs and front of house crew to cook and deliver mouth-watering, healthy and generous dishes to staff...

Regular diner here on theme nights. Always super food and great value. This week it was Chinese and I had the crispy chilli beef for main which was tasty and delicious. Far better than any Chinese restaurant. The staff and students work hard - keep up the great work.

Gin tasting eveningHad a great time here for a gin tasting evening, we got five gins to try and two courses. The evening was very informative and the food was amazing. Service was exceptional, thanks to Lee and Chris for looking after us we will be back!

A fabulous night was had at the murder mystery theme evening. Always amazing food.

It was my first time going to refined for a evening Christmas meal and it was perfect. For starters I had salmon fish cakes with hollandaise sauce. For mains I had pan-fried sea bass with hot and sour sauce. And for desserts I had chocolate fondant with apricot sorbet. I will definitely be coming back next year.

Had a Christmas meal here on Wednesday night and was so impressed. The staff are so professional and thoughtful. They really look after you. It's a really nice setting and then the food is absolutely gorgeous. They are all superb and doing such a great job. We came home and wanted to go back again as soon as we could so I've just booked again for February. Can't wait! See you soon :-)

We have been dining at Refined for the past six years and have always enjoyed the food on offer. The themed evenings are a joy to behold, the students who serve us and those in the kitchen are a credit to the college, we get to know them individually but unfortunately come June many of them leave and we always miss them. If you can't get to the evening meals the lunches are very good value for money, and are also excellent.

Excellent food combined with polite and excellent timed service

You would expect that at the junction of two major roads for Mansfield there would lie something important. And you would be right, because at the junction of Derby Road and Nottingham Road lies the best restaurant in town. But unless you are eagle-eyed and can read between the lines, you wouldn’t know it.

Great business dining experience all round (food, service and atmosphere) in an unexpected setting. It's basically a hidden gem that your would not normally expect to find on a college campus. Quality of food and value for money was incomparably good compared to most other restaurants that I have visited this year. I left feeling happy, relaxed and very contented!

Congratulations to the chef tutor and his brigade of new student chefs for an excellent lunch service today. Between the 4 of us, we had starters of sausage roll with piccalilli and tandoori chicken thighs with cous cous and main courses of roast beef, roast potatoes and veg and linguine, meatballs and a tomato sauce. All the food was tasty and well cooked and the service was attentive without being intrusive.

We go to refined dining every other month purely because the food and choices are excellent also the prices are at there best, being a training college for the students but to be honest we went today and no way would you know we were the first service of the term

When preordering as part of a large party the menu should be more specific to say fish covers a wide range as we were give Bass (yuk) too strong for my taste. I returned this as I was sure it was undercooked but was assured it was not, there was no offer of anything different. The starter was fine chicken courjons and dessert Eaton Mess were lovely. The bar area really needs upgrading to a more professionl level

Wonderful food yet again - never fails to deliver. The students serving on the tables are really proficient and cannot praise the churros enough! Looking forward to the next one now. Well done all.

Went to Refined for lunch for the first time today with my daughter and my Mum.

Recently a couple of my family members visited the restaurant for a lunch, they thoroughly enjoyed the the experience the food and service, as a professional working in the hospitality industry and a ex student im so pleased that this still exists and absolutely need to be supported so wonderful that they have awarded a AA rosette, my hats off to you and your students, I personally will be eating there the next time I'm down..

I totally agree with the earlier contributor who also visited Refined on Valentine’s evening - it was a a great night. Our favourites were the pan fried venison starter, the chicken main and the vegetable wellington. Well done to the front of house students and staff and of course the chefs in the kitchen. Lovely to be part of a positive learning experience and we hope to see the youngsters in restaurants and bars around Mansfield once they finish their courses. Thank you!

Went here with a group of friends to celebrate Chinese New Year. The service was very slow although the place was not that busy. Although the food was nice, it certainly was not authentic chinese food. The hoisin duck pancakes to start definitely needed more hoisin sauce. The sweet and sour chicken was really tasty but the rice was very wet - not dry like a chinese rice usually is. The toffee and banana roll was very tasty. I will not let this put me off going again.

What a great concept, we had heard of this student college serving great food a long time ago and we finally got to go for our first visit last night; a valentines special.

My brother, myself and our wives visited Refined Dining at the West Notts Technical College . The atmosphere was excellent the staff very attentive and could not do enough to please. The 3 course meal was well presented and although there is limited choice I am sure that everyone could find something that they liked. Booking is essential but 2019 the restaurant is planning lots of special nights. Well worth a try and well done to all who work at Refined Dining

Went for a themed evening, the food was lovely as well as the staff, nice to know what has changed in the last few months i've been, still brilliant food and service as always.

I took my mum to this back to school themed evening, I’ve been a few times but it’s the first time my mum had been, the service was impeccable and the food outstanding, I can’t recommend this restaurant enough, the up and coming chefs are doing a great job!! And what you get for the money is just amazing!!

We went for my 60th birthday. I enjoyed the music, a group of young people from the college were performing. The food was really good, tasted superb and was well presented. I would say it is one of the best places in Nottinghamshire to eat. Dietary needs can be catered for but the restaurant has to be informed before hand as the menu is limited. It is a training restaurant and the young people serving the tables did very well.
