Excellent roadside local pub. Staff are very hospitable. Ervice is very good. I think the menu I'd a bit limited as I don't like burgers and not keen on smoked dishes. But the steaks are great, some of thd best I've had.

We live local to the red lion as we only live in Winfrith. We have always been made to feel extremely welcome everytime we go in. Lizzy Alan and all thier staff are all very friendly. The best part is the fact that it is a very dog friendly pub. The food is very good. Would definitely keep going back

We have visited a few times since moving to Dorset, and we're never disappointed. The food is always tasty and plentiful. There's a nice choice of local ciders. Lizzie is so welcoming and lovely.

Excellent service. Lizzie is lively and certainly makes you feel comfortable and at home. The food is exquisite, a personal favourite of mine, is the smoked beef board. Burnt ends, beef rib, brisket. All melt in the mouth and flowing with juice. The smoke leaves a delectable bark without overpowering the flavour profile of the meat itself. If you are feeling brave or want to stitch up your friends, challenge them to the chicken wings with dynamite sauce. It will blow your/thier head OFF. Extremely spicy but packed with juicy habaneros and scotch bonnets, this delicious home made sauce is not for the faint hearted, but provides hours of entertainment as you try to tackle the inferno.

Supposedly a smoke house I ordered the beef smoke plate with how it was described it sounded lovely unfortunately the food on my plate looked dry and overcooked with a handful of chips and it certainly was it was probably the driest beef I have ever had with no sauce and can only be described as pre-cooked then re-heated I explained this to the server who didn’t really seem bothered it was as if this was a common occurrence so she had become used to complaints my suspicions were confirmed as I was informed that the food is smoked off premises then brought in so it’s not a smoke house my reviews are always honest at least I can say I had a lovely pint of beer but avoid the food such a shame as it sounded like the real deal

Stayed at the Red lion with our touring caravan. Pitch was 4 inch deep sand . Very unsuitable with gravel on top as an afterthought . Although open fires aren't allowed there was a camper 2 nights running with one . 2 toilets and showers on the main field not enough and dark, which is a hazard. Veggie breakfast was mediocre at best , who knew it was possible to get a gristly veggie sausage ? Sad cheap Hash Brown and an undercooked wedge of tomato. The younger lady was helpful and cheerful . Great location but wouldn't stay again

We’ve just returned from three nights camping at The Red Lion. Absolutely brilliant location with lots to do within a short drive. Lovely pub serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lizzie and her team were so helpful and friendly. The campsite was quiet and we felt safe allowing our daughter to mingle and socialise with other children staying. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic campsite plenty to do around. The pub where very accommodating and let our group camp near each other even tho some have tents have caravans. Food was fantastic great service. Love the green in the middle where the children could play and make friends. Definitely recommend this to family and friends

Went in and it was very busy at just before 7.30pm on Saturday 2nd March. We were with our dog and we were told we could not sit anywhere that was carpeted. We noticed that most dogs were under the tables, ours is too big to fit under one!

We hadn’t booked for 10 of us but we’re seated quickly by our waitress she was friendly and helpful and asked any questions regarding special dietary needs, it was very busy so ordered at the bar the children’s menus were fun as they came with colouring sheet. The weather wasn’t great but did see a children’s play area in the beer garden, we all had a range of food from the buttermilk chicken waffle to the smothered steak for a table of 10 and a busy Saturday I felt 20 minuets was great thank you very much for the lovely food they only thing to complain about was that we didn’t have room for the desserts which looked amazing

It's a nice pub but a little deceptive, I tried to use my Hall and Woodhouse vouchers but couldn't even...

I did a trip advisor review, last week but with Trip Advisor asking if I went there, can only conclude this venue is not playing by the Trip advisor rules. There are no usual Trip Advisor stickers in either main entrance indicating they are not part of the network of their star approval to low to openly display, on trying to review on line it seems the accommodation side of the business is their main interest, little notice has been taken of food criticisms for many years, I literally went backs years and people were complaining of the most tasteless curry ever encountered, management problems and changes being the usual response However, the home cooked food claim would imply food is cooked to order, the managers responses to criticism has always stated that most food is cooked in batches in the morning, then plated up and microwaved throughout the day and evening, any professional cook should at least be able to control food quality before sending out, this surely cannot be standard pub chain practice? Stick with deep fried food or a Ploughmans would be my best advise, the venue and beer is top notch, the menu looks appetising but the curry I had should never have been served to a paying customer, it was a very water chicken casserole but with less flavour.

I took my family out for lunch when we walked in it appeared to be a quiet family pub yet were greeted with the landladys kids screaming and climbing all over the pool table and were constantly in and out from behind the bar. The food we ordered was ok but when a steak is asked to be cooked rare it should be not welldone the gammon was watery and had no taste and as for the childrens squash it looked like gnats pee. Totally dissappointed

DO NOT BOOK! Turned up on 20 February 2020 to find that it had completely closed. We had booked but did not receive any notification by email or phone...

Excellent food and service. Good vibe. My only criticism was why does the waiter have to crouch down next to us to take our order? I’m not under 10! Stand upright while taking an order from an adult please.

I asked if they had a real ale. I was told they had an IPA. It was poured and given to me. It was not a real ale! It was a freezing cold keg beer that I really couldn’t drink and I was charged £5.20. I tried to complain to the obviously under-trained and frankly couldn’t-care-less female bar person but it was like water off a duck’s back. I said I was mis-sold but she didn’t seem to understand. I asked who owned the pub and was told “Stonegate”. I left the pint virtually in-drunk on the bar, hoping I would be able to claim a refund from Stonegate but the pub is not recognised on their website, other than from them looking for a tenant. I am out of pocket, fed up and very annoyed! I would advise anyone who likes a proper ale: DO NOT USE THIS PUB!

Nice food, pleasant atmosphere, great service. Minor observation, to my mind Bruschetta is not garlic bread with a few chopped tomatoes on the top. Other than that we had a very enjoyable meal.

Dropped in after a trip to Norden and back. The old carriage is quite spacious, bright and attractive. Lots of outside seating on the platform and the grass bank. They also have a small book stall to raise funds for the railway. Prices are fine and the food and drinks are up to standard, but not as good as the Norden cafe.
