Getting too expensive, rarely go now due to prices, special mixed grille had increased by £10 in 4yrs.

Cracking place food was fantastic and very large portions. Staff are friendly highly recommend.

Came here at the recommendation of a friend - food was lovely, generously portioned and reasonably priced. The drinks were priced a little higher than average for West Mids. Friendly wait staff, look forward to returning again.

Terrible place what happened to chicken breast in a curry .....why use cheap cuts of meat ie chicken thighs that are over cooked and rice that's been cooked two days old ! I won't be returning sorry .....very disappointed....

Lovely restaurant. Quick service by efficient and friendly staff. The food was amazing. Fabulous outdoor area with sliding roof, so ok for all weather. A little more pricey than average but you get good value for it. Highly recommended.

Ordered the special grill - There was literally 2 prawns (waitress said that’s the correct amount) 3 fish pakoras 2 wings 1 chicken shish & 1 lamb shish And a buttload of chicken tikka Absolutely appalling for £30! They obviously just use as much chicken as humanly possible - plus the food is genuinely very average. I highly highly recommend avoiding this place and going to the spinner / Bradford arms champys /. Soho oak. Other places have much better food and a much better price - this is genuinely the worst mixed grill we have had for the highest price - really have left here disappointed and frustrated by the food. Seriously advise you eat somewhere else !

Great pub and even better food. Coming from a wolves fan to say this about a pub in west brom it breaks my heart 🤣. Always a good pint lots of different wines and beers. You can tell the pipes are well looked after. Service is quick and efficient,staff are friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere is superb especially when there's an enfland game on. Veryclean and modern pub only down fall is parking. Due too it being such a popular pub the carpark is small and if you don't get here early you will have to park in a side street. Food is the best I've ever had. Fish pakora is unreal and a decent portion. Rara gosht is spicy and tender. Honey cheese naan is to die for. Highly recommended

We did not have food but will be trying this out in the coming week. We did try some of the nice lager and they have the finest selection of spirits,liquors and others I have ever set my own eyes upon. We had the Yamazaki 1923 single malt whiskey and you can tell the difference from that and Bells instantly. And the price of £9.80 a shot it was well worth it. The design inside and out is, simply put, outstanding. We will be going again to try the food.

We have been here several times before and have also ordered takeaways and been to collect it. The food has always been amazing and it still is. Great taste and great portion sizes. My husband and I went for food yesterday and decided to sit in the restaurant. We ordered our food which arrived quite quickly and as always it was amazing. Way too much to eat there and then so we were given bags to take home the rest. You pay upfront so no need to hang around after so we bagged up the food and left. We got to the car and one of the waiting staff came out to us asking if we had taken the sizzler plate that the food had been served on. He said some new customers think they can take it home. I was pretty shocked bearing in mind when we arrived we were asked if we had been before and I said yes several times so they knew we were not new customers. He could tell my husband was angry about the accusation being made and said he was sorry to ask. I repeated several times that the female member of staff had been and cleared the table after I had bagged the food so why hadn't he checked with her before coming out to us to accuse us and embarrass us. There were other customers leaving at the same time but none of them were stopped and asked. My husband was the only black person in the restaurant that I could see and feel this may have been a reason for the ludicrous accusation. My husband was clearly angry and the staff member once again said sorry to us both before he went back inside, leaving us to drive home with a bitter taste in our mouth about the whole situation. My feedback to the management team is make sure you check with all members of staff and confirm who cleared the table and what was cleared. If you are worried that people are stealing your sizzler plates maybe you should bag up the left over food for the customers at the table then clear everything away. That way you will know exactly what they are leaving with. Safe to say we will never return to this place after the way you treated us and made us feel in front of other leaving customers and passers by who saw and heard this happening.

lovely looking place and has a really nice atmosphere. however if you are looking for a mixed grill i would look elsewhere. there was four of us seperate for two of us we ordered the large mixed grill, masala chips and a keema nan with cheese. the other two ordered a large mixed grill poppadoms and a keema nan with cheese. we were told we couldn’t have cheese inside and it would have to be on top. i have attached photos it came out and felt like it had been microwaved the keema inside was very very thin and had no flavour the cheese tasted very cheap and seemed microwaved on top. lithos slap came just as a whole nan bread not cut up it looked like a pizza. i had to ask them to take it back to cut so we could even attempt to eat it. the large mixed grill is 26 pound it was basically a large mixed platter of chicken tikka. it comes with two fish pakora one lamb chop one sheesh kebab and one chicken kebab so e couldn’t even each have one lamb chop. but it came with about 15 pieces of chicken tikka and two chicken wings. any place i have eaten before is usually a minimum of two pieces of each as it says it caters up to 3 people. would be impossible unless you really like chicken tikka. on top of that ut was dry and flavourless. the fish was ok but nothing to rave about. the masala chips were really good but other than that i can honestly say it’s one of the more exspensive places i have been and i wouldn’t go back. after trying to tell the kitchen we were not impressed and asked about the portions the gentleman walked aaay from our table without a care in the world. refused to do anything about it said this is just how they do it. the gentleman behind the bar was a lot more professional and offered us a round of drinks. would go for drinks but i really wouldn’t bother with the food. it’s a shame as used to be amazing when i used to go here before.

Booked a table for 12 for lunch to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. Great service from the telephone booking to the meal itself. Food was delicious, service was fantastic from the complimentary birthday drink to their concern when Mum felt ill. Will definitely return

If you love meat, I recommend visiting this place.

Food and service was amazing, must try the mixed grill next time as it looked delicious, I will be back in a few weeks for another date night.

Horrendous experience. Horrible bouncer and door man. Wouldn’t dream of going back. Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone! Avoid if you’re in London.

I would give zero. Unfortunately, they have displayed their ignorance one too many times. This time I witnessed them refusing a lady entry due to her tiny, small palestian badge. She was dressed professionally and was causing no trouble.

Poor service. If you reserve a table, your order will not be taken for 50 minutes. Food will be on the table 2+ hours later. Very disappointed. Kids left home ealry hungry because they couldn't wait for that long. Asked waitress to pack the food as we got other plan later in the evening. Still waiting on the table past 2 hours.

I’m finally doing a review on this much loved place. I will start with the positives…and then on to why I’m disappointed. On to the food. Curries are great, the mix grill that everyone so loves and raves about…is ok. Sometimes the onions are burnt to a crisp. But the meat is still good. It’s not really for romantic dinners unless you like watching sports while eating. Now on to the biggest disappointment of the past 3 times…the poppadoms. I really really really don’t know what happened!! It used to be delicious and fresh in beautiful (singular) bowls (see pics). Now it’s in a serving dish that is supposed to be used for dipping sauces!!! You can’t use it because it’s not deep enough. The onion salad will only go into the neighbouring chutney if you’re not carful. And tonight it was so watery, flavourless and not fresh (see pics) both me and my husband didn’t want to finish. Mango and mint chutneys was much better though. But for some reason tonight the poppadoms were a bit stale too!!! My biggest gripe is the fact you only get 2 spoons instead of 3 with it and it’s not even in the onion salad. What am I suppose to do, use my stale poppadom to only break on me. Seriously, either put a spoon for each chutney (like every other place that serves poppadoms) or just put it in the right one. The point I’m trying to make it’s not just the food but also the experience of how you eat it. If you want my advice…skip the poppadoms!!! Also I find people are really over hyping this place. It’s nice…but not THAT great. I’ve had better food and a better experience at other places.

Honestly worst experience ever. West brom is full of other grill places go there. Although most of the waitresses were nice one waitress was rude and arrogant to my children and refused to open the back door to the garden so they could play because she said it was cold then scolded them because they were playing in the restaurant. They then took my half bottle of wine away from the table without me realising and then refused to replace it by giving me a glass of wine and accussed me of not being at the table. Really ruined the mood. Never going back again and advising all the school mums and family to go elsewhere from now on.

Did nt stay to eat food. This place used to be the place to go the owner and his son used to sit with customers to welcome them. Now it’s just pure greed . You can’t even sit where you want. It’s the second time I ve walked out now as we sit down at a table to be told it’s reserved ( no reserved sign) . I sat in the back garden area to watch all these tables empty for 40 mins. They wanna stick cpls on a tiny table n expect you to enjoy your meal when you ve got no room for condiments let alone plates . All they care about is the money not giving there customer a good experience. Oh and the prices have nearly doubled a tenner for a tikka starter no thanks. Go to the merry go round in tantany. The food is amazing so much cheaper and a much better dining experience. Definitely my go to place when I’m feeling a tandoori grill

Red lion is back on top, great choice of currys and grills, love the new thin nan breads vine style. Well done. For chilli lovers ask for masala fries extra spicy. Great selection of beers to suit every taste. Cobra on tap and Bank's Original Mild is pure heaven with a fantastic creamy head. Bank's mild won't break the bank at £3.50 a pint. Get down there.

I had the biggest mixed grill, it was big but the chicken was all thigh and I like breast meat,also the fish and lamb wernt the best,I am fussy and a big eater but would have preferred better quality than quantity

Nice big clean place, to order your food you can use QR app code fixed on the table. Once you have order your food some one will come and confirm your order and take your money. Nice atmosphere, tea and coffee also available. You can see the food being prepared in the kitchen. Private booths are available. There is separate bar area where you can just have drinks. Enough parking for cars on and off road.

Love this place it is a bit pricey but worth it food is outstanding never had a bad meal from here foods cooked fresh which u can see through the hatch always piping hot atmosphere good too ☺️

Ok, I went for a family meal here which was suggested by someone to try it. The place looks great, with an excellent atmosphere and surroundings with a lovely bar and seating area. Open kitchen with a lot of people in it. . . let's get to the point.....The food was awful, to say the least. I've tried a lot of Indian food and grills and never walked away saying how bad it was. The Red Lion Special mixed grill platter?? nothing special about it at all. In fact, it was dry and not worth the £31.50 I paid for it. The butter chicken was not butter chicken, It tasted like leftover chicken pieces off the grill thrown into some sort of sauce. The prawn curry, what can I say some prawns thrown into a sauce, no effort gone into any cooking here....however the only dish that hit the spot was the lamb saag, which I must say was lovely. The naans weren't too bad, but what good is that if the mains and the starters are no good. They asked for my feedback but then didn't like my polite honesty and brushed it away without any care having already taken our money.... any other time I would have demanded my money back. We spent quite a lot of money, especially on drinks, but as a whole the experience was not great, our own company made the experience. Would I go again, I can't say I would, unfortunately, very disappointed. . . . I'm not sure if it was this place or a bug that I caught, but I was very ill the next day those who know me will tell you that I'm an honest person and a very honest critic.

£19 for a double vodka and coke (belvedere) and the big mix grill was bland and piled onto of small serving plate (like Jenga game), we had a family next to us swinging their kids a round like it was a playground. Expensive for what it is, but the place was busy....came here once before lock down and now I remember why I didn't return. Definitely not a desi pub.

Great atmosphere food is good alittle on the pricy side. Service is fairly quick. Owner is a very bubbly person great to have a chat with. Staff on the other hand didn't really look happy just my perspective of things. Parking isn't great as this place gets very busy had to park on a side street. Bad point toilets didn't have and hot water only cold tap was working.

Not bad, felt slightly pricey, but it was a nice evening. Curries were definitely on the small side but tasty.

Brilliant curry spot. Food is excellent. Very tasty, good portions and value for money, from curry dishes, mixed grilled meats, breads, rices, and appetisers. Can clearly see why they've won so many awards. Clean and modern restaurant. Plenty of space and tables. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend. Ordered so much, i lade sure we had left overs to take home to Bristol. Was a massive fan of the chicken bhuna. A decent bar attached with a great range of alcoholic and soft drinks. Service was quick. Music and live sports also on. Only let down is the limited and awkward parking.

Lovely large pub with lots of little snug areas. Indo-Chinese cuisine is spot on and good value. Just one niggle, the chicken wings we ordered were not the ones we got - they were good anyway so can't complain too much.

A Desi pub definitely worth a detour to visit. Drove up from London to try the food. Saw the pub on the Channel 4 Grayson Perry documentary and just had to come and see for myself. Food was fresh, flavourful and the draught cobra fab. Will come back for sure. The grill menu is delicious and generous in size.

Had mix grill had to send one fish pakora back still frozen. Was replaced and had a apology. All the chicken on the grill appeared to be under cooked .Lamb was fine shish kebabs where fine...Nans raw in the middle. Was high recommend but was highly disappointed....Me and my friends will not be returning.

we have been going for years but I'm not sure it's worth it anymore the price of food seems to constantly go up and as much as my wife likes the chicken tikka masala is it really worth 13 pounds 50 for that alone ??? not to mention 3 pounds 50 for chips and 3.25 for a garlic naan bread... even the medium mix grill is 20 quid and at most other grill pubs its 5 or 6 pounds cheaper...I do like the food but there are lots and lots of other Indian grill pubs in the area that are cheaper so I'm not sure we will be back again unfortunately

Coming to West Brom for the first time and I stumbled across the Red Lion. The atmosphere was fantastic and the interior design was delectable to the eyes. It really felt like a comforting place to just eat like an animal to quench my hunger. I ordered the veg biryani, aloo saag and a few pieces of peshwari naan and the waitress, Monica, was extremely kind and friendly when speaking to. The wait time wasn't too long so I passed the time by watching the news on the TV. As the food arrived, it looked absolutely ravishing. I instantly digged in and the flavours were exquisite and the texture was perfect. The taste was also very good. My personal favourite was the aloo saag. Overall, the atmosphere, service and food surpassed my expectations and I will definitely visit again when I come back to West Brom. Shoutout to the waitress Monica for excellent service. I tipped her £10.

Great food and atmosphere and a great selection of drinks We couldn't order our food using the QR option as the internet was poor, and the free WiFi wasn't the best either However, it didn't ruin our experience. We couldn't est all the food so took the rest home in takeaway boxes

Today was the first time visiting this bar and grill and I've got to say I was very surprised the food was very tasty I visited because it was my birthday and I enjoyed every minute so I would definitely recommend to anyone to visit this place.

First time here. We waited at the sign to be seated and was fairly quickly taken to a table but then just left there not knowing the process of how to order. We saw about 5 staff stood in front of the food hatch so asked there. The lady (older one of the group didn't even say anything to me but just gave us 2 menus and we was still left a bit bewildered. Eventually someone came over and took our order but there was no communication at all just literally writing down what we asked for which I find very odd. I feel you should be told the process when you first enter and wait ar the stand. Overall the food was very tasty apart from the naan bread (parts of the naan dough was still raw) so we left that. There was also a piece of the fish pakora batter didn't seem fully cooked. Overall the majority was very tasty but let down by poor customer service and lack of communication

Went for the first time on Thursday 4th April 2024 after it being recommended by friends. Certainly NOT disappointed. Food was delicious, service was second to none. Staff are so friendly and attentive. Despite it being a few miles from home, we will definitely be visiting again. Must try the mixed grill as that seemed popular with everyone. A++++

Honestly, it was just OK. We eat out often at various Bar and Grills but had yet to try the Red Lion. Booked for a Friday night at 7.30. It was really busy which I took as a good sign on arrival. We were seated in a booth in the party room. We were advised to order using the QR code on the table which we did but ordered drinks at the bar. I would much rather have a menu to have a look through and order in person personally. We ordered: Garlic chicken Chicken Saag Fish pakoras Samosas Chips Pappadams Kids fishfinger meal Egg fried rice Mushroom fried rice I wasn't a fan of the rice. Tasted a bit stale and like it had been warmed up. The chicken in the Garlic chicken and the saag could have been better. The service was good and the staff were friendly. The mixed grills coming out of the kitchen looked amazing though. Overall, we had a lovely evening but I wouldn't rush back.

Ordered a vegetarian mixed grill full of potatoes I’ve eaten at other place by this mix grill is 2 star Definitely would not recommend the veggie mix grill waste of money The soho oak and the soho tavern are much better and the portion are definitely better

The food was stale we ordered to take out everything was stale and cold nothing hot and fresh the chicken tikka was dry and over cooked so disappointing everything went in the bin! Haven't been here in a while as used to come all the time and enjoy it . Should of stuck to my favs King George's or Champys they never get it wrong .

The worst service I have had in a long time. I was really looking forward to visiting this place having seen it on midlands today a few years ago. I have tried the cricketers, the railway and now the red lion. The food was ok but the chicken tikka tasted like it was made with Heinz’s tomatoe soup. I alerted the waiter that the service wasn’t up to what it should be and he agreed. However nothing was done to alleviate my frustration. As a table we had spend over £100 at the bar by the time the main course was ordered and by the time it came it was not just sub standard but we had all gone past hunger. I would visit the cricketers again 100% I would even return to the railway but I would not return to this conveyor belt of sub standard food and bad service. Next I will try the vine. Very disappointing. Done bother!

Food and drinks were fairly priced, although there is now a question for value for money, especially in comparison to similar places with more consistent food at better prices. Recently the food has begun to repeat on more much more severely than in the past, and far more than many of Desi grills, which isn't great either. With that being said, it seems to be a me problem more than a general issue. However, the atmosphere is warm and inviting and the staff are incredibly polite, accommodating and professional. Although it is now verging towards being more of a restaurant than a pub these days, I can say that whether you're popping in solo for a swift one and a bite to eat, or there as a group of friends of all ages, a family with young children or even a date, this place is truly for everyone.

Absolutely shocking food and service. Lamb chops no flavour! Chicken tikka dry. Crispy chilli wings tasted like old stale oil. Naan bread was swimming in oil. It was horrendous! We complained and the manager was just absolutely rude and said ‘well that’s how it’s cooked’ 1st and last time coming. If you want a good bar and grill I suggest you go Bradford arms (Champeys) in Walsall. Or the vine in West Brom. Sort your food out and your service, rude people!

Warm reception. Plenty of comfy seating and lively atmosphere. Seperate dinning areas for functions. Good decor and ambiance. Food was on point and so were the beverages. Toilets nice and clean too. But cold water.

Playing music over the football isn't the best

Food very tasty, but staff not bothered to book regular customers because of kids. We were coming there since it was looking like a simple canteen till now. Staff members never remember how many plates needs to brought. You feel you need keave asap you finished last bite, because waitress take the plates straight you have even break. Very dissapointed with phone service booking asap I mentioned about kids was no table! Young boy said he is manager when I asked to speak with manager.

Absolute gem of a place! Food here is of an excellent quality, a real must try is the mixed grill. Curries here are also exceptional as they are keen to deliver the tastiest dishes in the area. Do try if your passing and you certainly won't be disappointed!

We booked a table for 20 for a works leaving do, we all ordered and paid within 10 minutes of each other the longest wait was an hour and half so obviously everyone else had finished, food was OK but far from the best we've ever had.

I went with my friend, we ordered food to eat at restaurant the portion was the right amount it fill 2 people. The food was absolutely lovely. I was enjoying going with family and friends. I ordered the same dishes to take home and when I got home and I opened the chilli chicken portion there was 5 little pieces of chicken and almost half of the tub was filled with mix veg, which was very very very disappointing. 😕 We spent so much money at Red Lion 🦁 and the takeaway portions were not any value for money disappointing.

Been going here for about 4 years but went the other day and was really disappointed, they have made some changes that just haven’t worked. I used to rate here number 1 in the area for a mixed grill but sadly that’s far from the case now. What a shame.
