Overall, having dined in many times here is a combined review all in one. The service and atmosphere are excellent. You’re always greeted with a smile. The atmosphere is nice, doesn’t matter what room you sit in, they’re all well presented and cleaned well. The food The large mixed grill is £26. When you consider the other local establishments this is on the high end of the scale. You would therefore expect to get more than 1 lamb chop, more than 3 chicken wings. It’s mostly all chicken tikka. The taste is lovely so nothing taken away from that. The curry’s and naans are delicious absolutely faultless - just get them cooked to your preferred taste. All in all a definite gem of a place!

We have been coming here for the last 15 years. But haven’t been in last 18 months. It was our top three mix grill place. Not anymore. Mix grill- lacked spice and flavour. No chilli. Previously was great. We thought we will try two curries. After being advised to ask for it to be more spicy or desi style. Keema - was grainy and mushy. Tasted burnt Chicken karai - hmm tandoori meat in a sauce lacked salt and spice. Waiter listened but didn’t feel we were heard. Spent £100 (5 adults and 2 kids). Looks like we won’t be going back!

Booked a table for 15 ppl for a Birthday Party. They informed me when booking i could keep cakes in the fridge. On the day they didnt put cakes in Fridge and smudged them. Informed me i could arrive15-20 mins early before 7pm booking to set up balloons etc on the day the table was not free until 7pm. Table they provided us was not even together, half of the guests had to sit apart. Most of the food was ok Keema was absolutely awful. Extremely unorganised loads of staff standing around doing nothing.

Fantastic service, usually a great vibe, however it can be costly. You can find consistently better food elsewhere for less, however, you won't find much friendlier staff than at The Red Lion.

Heard good things about this pub so decided to book for my husbands birthday. There were 4 of us. We were shown to our table and we're asked if we want food to which the waitress then just pointed to a QR code. Others on other tables were given menus. The menu does not state how many the moxed grills serve. So we ordered 2 of the 32.99 ones between 4 as we thought they would be for 2 people. Wrong! One of these could feed 4 easily. The menu needs to highlight this! We ordered through the QR code at 7.43 our food arrived at 9.00! There was no explanation given ony once when we asked after 55 minutes and was told it would come in 5 minutes- it didnt! Others around us were being served in a timely manner maybe because it seemed they were regulars. Good tasted really nice but wouldn't return as service was shocking!!!

Our go to place for fresh desi food. We live about 10 miles away but still like to visit. The food tastes great/fresh and is reasonably priced. The service is great and the atmosphere friendly.

Top quality food at a very good pub, the menu is superb if you love Indian cuisine.

Pub was decorated lovely. We were sat in the conservatory are as there were a few of us on our works Christmas meal. The food was delicious and plentiful, I couldn't eat all of mine and took a doggy bag home for my hubby, who also throughly enjoyed it. There isn't much parking space and the spaces are cramped together I felt. The toilets were nice and clean which is always a bonus. Some of the staff were very pleasant and polite but some were just rude. Would I go here again, most definately.

£20 for a double vodka (belvedere) and coke mixer btl. Can anyone confirm if the price is correct or are they just putting prices up for the sake of it. I thought the girl behind the bar got it wrong! Always disappointed when I come to this place about once a year and then remember why I don't come for one reason or another. If you’re Indian I wouldn’t recommend coming here. Came here on a busy Saturday, called and the person said it was fully booked, checked online they had multiple slots available. Asked the waitress about the heat level on the chicken curry and prawn curry and she said it’s medium to hot, it wasn’t even slightly spicy it was basically Nando’s level plain (definitely caterers to ⚪️ ppl). My partner couldn’t even eat his because it was so bland, I was going through mine until I found a black hair in the prawn curry. We got a partial refund and left for Royal Punjab. They never disappoint.

Went in after a review on YouTube about the mix grill platter. I literally paid over £25 for a chicken platter and not a mixed as there was only one over cooked lamb chop and one lamb kebab, the rest was chicken . Initially it looked and tasted alright but as we ate our way down we realised it was leftover chicken reheated. Very disappointed, waste of money and will definitely not be going back.

I visited on Thursday 21st Nov I asked for a mix grill and got the regular. I asked for some tap water too There was half a kebab, a small piece of fish pakora and 99% chicken not quite sure how that qualifies as a mixed grill. I was told it’s £19 was then charged £19.99 The tap water never did arrive, when I asked if the food I hadn’t eaten could be packed, I was given a bag to do it myself. Self service I guess. In short paid £19.99 for chicken.

Had a lovely lunch here with generous portions of flavoursome curry. Also the range of beers is good with 2 real ales.

THE ONLY PLACE THAT HAS CAFFREYS IRISH ALE. THEREFORE IT GETS 5/5 , NO CAP, FOR REAL FR.

First time visit, very popular ( you need to book) . The service was very good and the food was fabulous and not expensive, neither were the drinks . Really enjoyed ourselves will definitely be back. Only down was limited parking.

We ate in the Restaurant in September 2024 & really enjoyed the food......we then ordered online for a birthday treat & collected our food to eat at home and was really disappointed, the chicken tikka masala tasted and smelt like Tomato soup with Chicken in & 2 members of my family were ill after eating from here.....needless to say we won't be returning & was very disappointed as the takeaway we had was not cheap.

Still my favourite food from where I grew up always a warm welcome and attentive staff, my moms favourite so we spent her 80th birthday with family

Food was amazing 10/10 deffo recommend. Best chilli prawns have ever had.

Curry had gallons of cumin and lamb chops were tough if my culinary experience serves me well they actually used mutton instead of lamb.. I can cook but after a 12hr shift you want ease but instead I wasted money on inedible food.

I've been in Australia for 10yrs. 10yrs longing for a decent curry. The Red Lion did NOT dissapoint. I had the sheekh kebab to start. Flavourful, tender, served on a sizzling cast iron plate. One serve was enough for 3 people. I then had the lamb jalfrezi, fried rice and chilli naan. Again, full of flavour. I should also mention the service was fantastic and attentive. The place filled up very quickly once we had finished and I could see they needed our table but no pressure from the management to leave. We did, of course, leave not long after. These guys scratched a 10yr itch and nailed it. Thanks 😁

1st time going here. Friendly staff. Room where I ate, it's a pity it's so open and mismatch seating. Really spoilt the decor with the tatty chairs. Ordered chicken Bhuna. OMG it was so salty, way to go to get you to buy more drinks. Bit quick of the mark with wanting payment, just as food arrived and not tasted. No one came around to collect up empty glasses I would give it a 2.5 rating, but stars don't allow for that.

Had visited recently for a family members birthday, however became hugely disappointed. The service was poor due to miscommunication between staff members and the food was basic.. the chicken was dry and flavourless. We ordered 2 large mix grill (amongst other things ) and it was mostly just chicken tikka. The table we were seated at was sticky and dirty we had to ask for it to be cleaned. To say we spent quite a substantial amount here the quality of food and service did not meet expectations, I strongly suggest that you go else where!

The communication with the staff is poor. They made us pay before having the food, so any issues you have with the food cannot be resolved. The food was disgusting and they overcharged me. There was hair in the food and they did not resolve this either. Do not recommend.

Food was great, service was slow and we waited quite a while for the food but staff were friendly. If service had been a bit more on point I would have given 5 stars. I will be back and will update my review based on that experience.

The food is always top class here. Went for the Tandoori Balti tonight and it really didn't disappoint. Perfect tbh spiced and tasted so fresh. As ever, service was spot on.

My food given to another table, when i asked the waiter if that was my food he said yes, he then said we will prepare again. I stood next to the food counter only to find they give me the same food back lol i watched them! Got a refund in the end..

Great Pint..fresh and crips Stella and Staropramen. Good selection of beers. Place was clean and service was prompt. Was told to order using the table QR code but the app is pretty poor. It wouldn't allow adding various items. Ended up ordering via a assistant. Orderd the small mix grill which was £19.99 as there were two of us. Came with lots of chicken which was pretty dry, 1 lamb chopped which was chewy as hell, 1 solitary fish pakora and 1 chicken kebab..a second lamb kebab was given later on when we discussed the poor quality of the mix grill. Chilly chips were dry and not very saucy. Bowl of salad was plentifu and freshl. Garlic naan was lovely and crisp and fluffy and well made. Would avoid the mix grill and chilly chips if this is the gerenal quality these days. In the past the food has been better.

Great food and a superb range of drinks, my girlfriend and I now go there regularly because the food is absolutely ace and the prices are very keen indeed. We both highly recommend this restaurant 😊

Really enjoyable evening. We were actually lucky to get a table as we called quite late. We were able to get a table outside which was really comfortable, the staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs and served us well. Food was really tasty and just right in quantity, so we didn't leave uncomfortably stuffed. We will definitely be visiting again very soon. Just a warning, this place gets really busy, so you really will need to reserve. Otherwise, you won't get in.

Terrible place what happened to chicken breast in a curry .....why use cheap cuts of meat ie chicken thighs that are over cooked and rice that's been cooked two days old ! I won't be returning sorry .....very disappointed....

Came here at the recommendation of a friend - food was lovely, generously portioned and reasonably priced. The drinks were priced a little higher than average for West Mids. Friendly wait staff, look forward to returning again.

Lovely restaurant. Quick service by efficient and friendly staff. The food was amazing. Fabulous outdoor area with sliding roof, so ok for all weather. A little more pricey than average but you get good value for it. Highly recommended.

Ordered the special grill - There was literally 2 prawns (waitress said that’s the correct amount) 3 fish pakoras 2 wings 1 chicken shish & 1 lamb shish And a buttload of chicken tikka Absolutely appalling for £30! They obviously just use as much chicken as humanly possible - plus the food is genuinely very average. I highly highly recommend avoiding this place and going to the spinner / Bradford arms champys /. Soho oak. Other places have much better food and a much better price - this is genuinely the worst mixed grill we have had for the highest price - really have left here disappointed and frustrated by the food. Seriously advise you eat somewhere else !

Great pub and even better food. Coming from a wolves fan to say this about a pub in west brom it breaks my heart 🤣. Always a good pint lots of different wines and beers. You can tell the pipes are well looked after. Service is quick and efficient,staff are friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere is superb especially when there's an enfland game on. Veryclean and modern pub only down fall is parking. Due too it being such a popular pub the carpark is small and if you don't get here early you will have to park in a side street. Food is the best I've ever had. Fish pakora is unreal and a decent portion. Rara gosht is spicy and tender. Honey cheese naan is to die for. Highly recommended

Great mixed grill! Lovely venue

We did not have food but will be trying this out in the coming week. We did try some of the nice lager and they have the finest selection of spirits,liquors and others I have ever set my own eyes upon. We had the Yamazaki 1923 single malt whiskey and you can tell the difference from that and Bells instantly. And the price of £9.80 a shot it was well worth it. The design inside and out is, simply put, outstanding. We will be going again to try the food.

We have been here several times before and have also ordered takeaways and been to collect it. The food has always been amazing and it still is. Great taste and great portion sizes. My husband and I went for food yesterday and decided to sit in the restaurant. We ordered our food which arrived quite quickly and as always it was amazing. Way too much to eat there and then so we were given bags to take home the rest. You pay upfront so no need to hang around after so we bagged up the food and left. We got to the car and one of the waiting staff came out to us asking if we had taken the sizzler plate that the food had been served on. He said some new customers think they can take it home. I was pretty shocked bearing in mind when we arrived we were asked if we had been before and I said yes several times so they knew we were not new customers. He could tell my husband was angry about the accusation being made and said he was sorry to ask. I repeated several times that the female member of staff had been and cleared the table after I had bagged the food so why hadn't he checked with her before coming out to us to accuse us and embarrass us. There were other customers leaving at the same time but none of them were stopped and asked. My husband was the only black person in the restaurant that I could see and feel this may have been a reason for the ludicrous accusation. My husband was clearly angry and the staff member once again said sorry to us both before he went back inside, leaving us to drive home with a bitter taste in our mouth about the whole situation. My feedback to the management team is make sure you check with all members of staff and confirm who cleared the table and what was cleared. If you are worried that people are stealing your sizzler plates maybe you should bag up the left over food for the customers at the table then clear everything away. That way you will know exactly what they are leaving with. Safe to say we will never return to this place after the way you treated us and made us feel in front of other leaving customers and passers by who saw and heard this happening.

lovely looking place and has a really nice atmosphere. however if you are looking for a mixed grill i would look elsewhere. there was four of us seperate for two of us we ordered the large mixed grill, masala chips and a keema nan with cheese. the other two ordered a large mixed grill poppadoms and a keema nan with cheese. we were told we couldn’t have cheese inside and it would have to be on top. i have attached photos it came out and felt like it had been microwaved the keema inside was very very thin and had no flavour the cheese tasted very cheap and seemed microwaved on top. lithos slap came just as a whole nan bread not cut up it looked like a pizza. i had to ask them to take it back to cut so we could even attempt to eat it. the large mixed grill is 26 pound it was basically a large mixed platter of chicken tikka. it comes with two fish pakora one lamb chop one sheesh kebab and one chicken kebab so e couldn’t even each have one lamb chop. but it came with about 15 pieces of chicken tikka and two chicken wings. any place i have eaten before is usually a minimum of two pieces of each as it says it caters up to 3 people. would be impossible unless you really like chicken tikka. on top of that ut was dry and flavourless. the fish was ok but nothing to rave about. the masala chips were really good but other than that i can honestly say it’s one of the more exspensive places i have been and i wouldn’t go back. after trying to tell the kitchen we were not impressed and asked about the portions the gentleman walked aaay from our table without a care in the world. refused to do anything about it said this is just how they do it. the gentleman behind the bar was a lot more professional and offered us a round of drinks. would go for drinks but i really wouldn’t bother with the food. it’s a shame as used to be amazing when i used to go here before.

Booked a table for 12 for lunch to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. Great service from the telephone booking to the meal itself. Food was delicious, service was fantastic from the complimentary birthday drink to their concern when Mum felt ill. Will definitely return

Red lion was a fantastic place to eat at during the euro's final. The atmosphere was brilliant, service impeccable and an overall enjoyable experience. The food was delicious and the owner's really made the experience 10/10.

I would give zero. Unfortunately, they have displayed their ignorance one too many times. This time I witnessed them refusing a lady entry due to her tiny, small palestian badge. She was dressed professionally and was causing no trouble.

Poor service. If you reserve a table, your order will not be taken for 50 minutes. Food will be on the table 2+ hours later. Very disappointed. Kids left home ealry hungry because they couldn't wait for that long. Asked waitress to pack the food as we got other plan later in the evening. Still waiting on the table past 2 hours.

I’m finally doing a review on this much loved place. I will start with the positives…and then on to why I’m disappointed. On to the food. Curries are great, the mix grill that everyone so loves and raves about…is ok. Sometimes the onions are burnt to a crisp. But the meat is still good. It’s not really for romantic dinners unless you like watching sports while eating. Now on to the biggest disappointment of the past 3 times…the poppadoms. I really really really don’t know what happened!! It used to be delicious and fresh in beautiful (singular) bowls (see pics). Now it’s in a serving dish that is supposed to be used for dipping sauces!!! You can’t use it because it’s not deep enough. The onion salad will only go into the neighbouring chutney if you’re not carful. And tonight it was so watery, flavourless and not fresh (see pics) both me and my husband didn’t want to finish. Mango and mint chutneys was much better though. But for some reason tonight the poppadoms were a bit stale too!!! My biggest gripe is the fact you only get 2 spoons instead of 3 with it and it’s not even in the onion salad. What am I suppose to do, use my stale poppadom to only break on me. Seriously, either put a spoon for each chutney (like every other place that serves poppadoms) or just put it in the right one. The point I’m trying to make it’s not just the food but also the experience of how you eat it. If you want my advice…skip the poppadoms!!! Also I find people are really over hyping this place. It’s nice…but not THAT great. I’ve had better food and a better experience at other places.

Really nice place, great food and drink selection.

Honestly worst experience ever. West brom is full of other grill places go there. Although most of the waitresses were nice one waitress was rude and arrogant to my children and refused to open the back door to the garden so they could play because she said it was cold then scolded them because they were playing in the restaurant. They then took my half bottle of wine away from the table without me realising and then refused to replace it by giving me a glass of wine and accussed me of not being at the table. Really ruined the mood. Never going back again and advising all the school mums and family to go elsewhere from now on.

Did nt stay to eat food. This place used to be the place to go the owner and his son used to sit with customers to welcome them. Now it’s just pure greed . You can’t even sit where you want. It’s the second time I ve walked out now as we sit down at a table to be told it’s reserved ( no reserved sign) . I sat in the back garden area to watch all these tables empty for 40 mins. They wanna stick cpls on a tiny table n expect you to enjoy your meal when you ve got no room for condiments let alone plates . All they care about is the money not giving there customer a good experience. Oh and the prices have nearly doubled a tenner for a tikka starter no thanks. Go to the merry go round in tantany. The food is amazing so much cheaper and a much better dining experience. Definitely my go to place when I’m feeling a tandoori grill

Red lion is back on top, great choice of currys and grills, love the new thin nan breads vine style. Well done. For chilli lovers ask for masala fries extra spicy. Great selection of beers to suit every taste. Cobra on tap and Bank's Original Mild is pure heaven with a fantastic creamy head. Bank's mild won't break the bank at £3.50 a pint. Get down there.
