Red Lion Bushey in Hertsmere

Had an amazing time out with my family, was served by Matt, Sybbi and Evie, they were all super attentive and seemed happy to help with food and drink choices. The food was delicious, props to the chef.

Visited here today to meet some friends. We sat in the outside garden area which was spacious and tidy/clean. Lunch was really good. Nacho sharer was lovely as were our sandwiches. Freshly cooked and plentiful portions. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Would return in the future.

A very enjoyable visit with friends - food was lovely, friendly staff, relaxed outside area, great selection of drinks, quick service Would definitely recommend both the Hake & Scallop Tagliatelle and the Sweet Potato, Beetroot & Leek Tortellini It’s dog friendly too!

Popped in for lunch. Received a very warm welcome from Lucy and Matt and ordered the fish and chips and a pint of Koh I noor. Ale was nicely kept and the fish and chips were fantastic. Definitely coming back.

Where can I start with this place? The food, incredible! You have to try the fish and chips. It’s even better than a fish and chips shop and the Nachos were so nice. My eyes were definitely to big for my stomach. The staff are amazing, always quick and try there best to make sure you’re looked after. My dad’s a fussy man and always loves the food here. He always chats with the ladies at the bar. The overall experience here is outstanding! We will definitely be back here!

Unbelievable!! The worst costumer experience I’ve ever encountered!! Wow! …. The gurl with the glasses was so rude we thought it was one of those gimmick pubs where they are paid to be rube to you !! Costing a friend who lives around the corner and normally drinks in the king stag but unfortunately doesn’t show football so we went to the lion to watch the game and the one gurl with the big glasses on made us feel so unwelcome like we had disturb her night ! Me being someone who works in pubs in north London and my mate who used to run wine bars in Manchester has literally never encountered such hostility from staff who are hired for hospitality!! Wow Never ever again

We visited on Sunday for a couple of drinks. Encountered a relaxing environment and a warm and efficient welcome. Decided to order a "Sunday Roast"; what a delicious meal, fantastic service and great value. The roast beef was well cooked, with a good selection of vegetables. Obviously, a great team, keep up the good work. I’m definitely going back again as the atmosphere is really nice and the staff made me feel very welcome!

Had an amazing meal with friends and family. Dog friendly and cozy environment with the fire. Lucy was lovely and so accommodating and just overall a lovely young girl. Evie was equally lovely! Food was delicious. our plates were licked clean! Lucy helped us with all of our choice's. When I was shocked that there had been no service charge added to the bill, Lucy insisted that I wrote a review instead. So here I am. I hope you all have an amazing Christmas!

Disappointing experience. The Sunday roast was very good, although they need to add more vegetables. But what was lacking was customer service. The bar staff were surly and aloof, not very welcoming. We sat at the table which was dirty. We asked the bar maid if she could please clear away the dirty dishes. Well she didn't. The table was still dirty when our meal turned up. Again we had to ask the bar man if he could clear the table first. Which he did, but it's not hygienic to have bacterial cleaner sprayed near your food! Such a shame as this pub has a lot of character. All it needs is better customer service, cleaner tables and more vegetables!

Decent Sunday roast. However, beware of the ‘bar snacks’. We ordered the chilli jam sausages. At £7, we expected a few, but what turned up was a tiny bowl with 1 sausage cut up. Absolute rip off. It’s a shame because the food and service is generally good - not sure why they then need to rip off customers with this sort of trick.

The food was delicious, the service went over and above with the staff making our little one a mocktail, they don't sell them but they saw how upset she was so made one just for her, her smile said it all. Thank you so much, we will definitely be back

Went to visit friends in Watford and came across this little gem, its a lovely oldie worldie pub with great atmosphere lovely food and drinks and really friendly staff especially the manager dawn .will def be back .

Awful experience. Party of 12 with young children. We were treated like 2nd class citizens due to having two young children who liked to walk around the pub. They did not interfere with or disturb any other patrons. We were continually chastised for our children not sitting perfectly still. If you don't want Children in your pub, don't allow them in! The two Bar Staff stood next to us for 10 minutes watching our every move whilst we ate. When I questioned why we were being watched, one member of staff called me a disgrace for allowing my child to roam. 45 minute wait for food (which in fairness was good). I have been visiting this Pub for 25+ years. Never again. To be made to be felt and treated like an inconvenience due to the presence of young children is unacceptable. We spent in excess of £200 to be treated like crap. Well, never again...Avoid!

Went on the 28th of june, a lovely beer garden, was served by a tallish guy who recommended a really nice gin, and my friends had a range of largers that they all seemed to enjoy, will definitely go back again

Visited the pub with a group of friends but sadly could not eat as all the tables were reserved for people who were doing the pub quiz, so the pub are happy to turn down the revenue of 8 meals to accommodate 6 people on one table which were drinking tap water. The staff are clueless when it comes to customer service, one lady stacking a dishwasher whilst customers waited 10 mins to be served. This could be a lovely pub however it is sadly let down by a lack of customer service, tables left dirty for hours and never wiped with a clean cloth when the mess is eventually cleared. There are so many better pubs to visit in Bushey, my advice is give this place a miss unless you’re looking for the ‘Karen’ experience!

I have visited this pub on many occasions, but sadly not sure why we go back. The staff are probably the rudest staff I have ever encountered. Such a pity as actually a nice pub. Food is ok. Being from the area this pub just doesn’t have that local feel, I always thought the customer is always right. On visiting the pub on a Thursday night they rang the bell for last orders, went up about 3 minutes after stood for 3 to 4 minutes and was completely ignored whilst they served other customers, then I was shouted at from the other end of the bar that they were closed, I said I have been waiting for 3 or 4 minutes but was told by a member of staff that I was lying, we had spent nearly 80 pound and we are of the slightly older generation so a bit of respect would be nice. Will not be going again plenty more pubs in Bushey that appreciate our business

Fantastic friendly & helpful staff and decent, well-priced food. Absolutely fab. Looking forward to visiting in the colder weather (hope they light the fires in the lovely fireplaces).

We really enjoy going to the Quiz night on Thursday`s hosted by Basil who is very funny! Always have a meal before the quiz starts and the food is very good. Also a good range of drinks and the bar staff are very nice. Good size rear garden/outside area. As the review title states this pub is a good all rounder!

First visit to the Red Lion and will definitely be back. Staff friendly, professional and courteous. Food was outstanding, and service was very good indeed.

I have only been twice since they reopened and the bar staff are making a real effort during difficult times. The landlady was very accommodating and friendly as was the barmaid. They have a good range of beer/ales and we are lucky to have the red lion as so many other Bushey pubs have gone. Will return.

Despite being informed by at least one customer that there was no loo roll in the ladies toilet, the staff advised that they were “out of loo roll”! What’s wrong with popping to the shop up the road to get some? Poor customer service!

I sometimes struggle to find somewhere that caters to vegetarians, I was happy to come here to find a separate menu just for vegetarians. As well as this the food was served nice and hot. The pub was very clean and the staff were very attentive and welcoming. I will be returning.

I come to this pub often with both friends and family and have never been let down. The food is always nice and quickly served even on the busy nights! The atmosphere in the pub has always been very good and always seems to be full of happy drinkers on a Friday night. The manager Dawn is always a friendly face and is very welcoming to us on every visit. I will continue to visit regularly and strongly recommend a visit to anyone. Last time I came here the majority of the staff seemed lazy and incompetent... This time all the staff seemed so motivated and cheery. I came here with my son and his fiancé for lunch on a Thursday a couple of weeks ago. There was a booking so most of the dinners side was full but wasn’t to busy. We were welcomed to the bar with nothing but smiles. Two blonde girls were working but couldn’t tell you the names. We were served quickly and only waited about 15/20 minutes for our food. The food was lovely and filling for only £6! 100% would come back! See you all soon for another scampi and chips. :)

My friends and I went to have a spontaneous dinner in the middle of the week and we had a great time. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff welcoming and helpful, and the food was tasty and comforting. Will definitely be back soon.

Celebrated my birthday here last Friday night. The staff behind the bar were so welcoming. Me and my friends were served straight away for drinks and had a lovely atmosphere. Food was perfect and served quickly. The young blonde girl looked after us so well making sure we were all happy. If I could give zero I would. Food is just awful, cheap products badly reheated. Grubby wine glasses and the most miserable old woman behind the bar who is clearly in the wrong job- not once in the long drawn out lunch did she even show half a smile. Why have a desert menu offering custard, then when you have run out of custard, no one able to nip to a shop and buy a few tins - as they obviously don't know how simple it is to make fresh custard. New owners needed FAST

I never feel the need to write a review but after I came to this pub last weekend I feel like I need to. I have lived in Bushey for about 14 years and have always used this as a local. Since new management has taken over by Dawn I feel like the pubs atmosphere has definitely changed for the better and being such a warm and welcoming person you would think her staff would reflect the same. When I came in on Saturday night I was welcomed by the most happiest staff member (please recognise the sarcasm). Who would have thought you could be spoken down to when asking for a G&T? But she sure proved me wrong! When she filled the glass up with ice I quickly asked if I could have it without to which she said “well you’re clearly not a Gin drinker”. Ok? I then added more Gins but don’t worry by name this time, which she overdramatised and said “there’s no point in telling me this while I’m away from the till now is there” again rude. I then turned to see if my other friend wanted something as she had just came in and behind me a sharpe teacher like tone shouting the price at me! I said can we get another drink which was returned with a eye roll to the till and a stern “what else?”.Me and my friends sat down on a free table round the side of the pub and carried on with a good catch up with the girls. Came back up to the bar and a young girl with blonde hair and a young man began to take our order. I recognise the young lady and know she’s been there for a while but they had a new male staff member and both of them were lovely having a laugh at the bar joking with me and my friends. I popped the question to ask how long the new lady had been here and they said the beginning of the year and that she was actually management? Shocked... very shocked. I explained what had happened on my earlier order and how I really didn’t feel welcome, the young lady apologised on her behalf and said she and I quote “probably didn’t mean it”? Shocking that a staff member has to apologise for a managements attitude towards the customer and clearly this isn’t the first complaint. Sad that with such a lovely pub and with a manager that always tries her best for the custom of Bushey and the person that’s supposed to be her go to is actually making this pubs reputation fall apart.

Popped in for lunch one day. Lovely menu with good quality food not costing the earth. Would definitely recommend.

Just had a Mother’s Day meal which was amazing. Really good atmosphere child friendly and really good value for money. Often struggle being veggie to get a decent roast dinner but the nut roast was delicious. Plenty of well cooked veg and unlimited roast potatoes and Yorkshires highly recommend.

An ok pub , staff always seem unconcerned and unhappy, still taking drinks when left , and a big screen only use when sport on BBC1 that’s a shame ,

My son lives in the area with his wife and young son so we often pop into this pub for a spot of lunch when I visit over the weekend.

I went to this pub as I had heard very mixed reviews about it and me and my friends fancied a couple of drinks as we were going out later that day. Impressed is an understatement. I remembered this girls name as she literally blew me away with how good her customer service was! Lucy Hall. Wow. Super quick, polite and patient. Her chatter towards us made feel us feel right at home! Not only her persistence and clearly GREAT dedication towards the pub and customers, but the way she looked reflected on how our moods changed from fab to FABULOUS! ;) Very well presented - shame she works in a pub when there are so many good opportunities out there for her (aka modelling). I will 100% be coming back, hopefully one day we will become besties. Red lion, you are lucky to have this girl.

Went to the bar when it admittedly was busy. One bartender was serving customers at my end of the bar, it took about 5-10 minutes for it to be my turn as in this time she had been serving people who had been at the bar longer. Once it was my turn she started going to the other end of the bar and then served two separate customers who arrived at the bar after me. There was a few people at the bar drinking so I assumed she thought I must have been at the bar with a drink so I waved to get her attention at which point she replied “don’t wave your money at me” and when I said I’ve been here for 15 minutes and you’ve ignored me I was here before the two people you’ve just served she schreeched “loads of people have been here for a long time I don’t know what order they come in do I?” I’ve been going to pubs for 10 years and funnily enough never had this problem before nor in any professional capacity have I dealt with such rudeness and lack of professionalism.

used to visit this pub for sunday lunch a few years ago,but it seemed to go downhill,pleasantly surprised when we decided to try it again for our usual' sunday lunch out'it was service with a smile,service was very quick.food was very good,I could enjoy my favourite sunday roast (beef,this time)while my husband enjoyed one of the daily specials of steak and kidney pudding,the pub was clean and inviting and the price did not break the bank

I very rarely do bad reviews - but one thing that does get my goat is a dirty wine glass and this pub is notorious for this not sure if the dishwasher is rubbish or they don't get cleaned but they always have a smokey smeary powder on them and often lipstick.This is one of many pubs in Bushey I often go to them all, I like this pub as a rule went here Christmas Eve nice enough atmosphere and we took an overseas visitor here on the Sunday before New Years but its just the dirty glasses even when you ask for a clean one they are still the same. such a shame such a small thing but lets the place down. Yes I do agree with some of the reviews on here the staff are shocking so uninterested.

Arriving on a Tuesday night at around 9.30pm in a group of 8-10 people. Pub was pretty empty and I had a small Dog with me wrapped in a blankek in my arms.

Came here on Saturday just gone and I must say the young lady who was serving me and my partner (who seemed to be the one running the shift) was very stressed this being said she still managed to serve us with a smile and let us know our options of drinks and recommended the many different gins available to me and honestly I have never seen such a collection in a small pub like this one! My husband went for a standard Carling. The pub was very busy and the young lady that served us was working her hardest to clear tables while the two other members of staff ate food behind the bar or stood oblivious to the carnage that the young lady was trying to contain. We came to the bar to order food and a young man appeared and began to serve me and my husband. I had to bite my tongue on how absent and rude he was to us! We were informed of a 20 minute wait after the young lady reminded him which was then returned to the young girl being scolded by the man across the bar as she walked away? We sat down by a lovely fire place and both meals only took 25 minutes in the end. We both had burgers and they were scrumptious! Our table was cleared and I went up for some hot drinks but male member of staff said he “ain’t got an idea how to make tea” when over hearing this the young lady from earlier quickly came to the table to ask if she could make us the hot drinks but we had to leave so declined the offer. Lovely pub, lovely food but could work on the staff.

Came here late lunchtime on a Saturday, when the pub was fairly quiet apart from the regulars watching horse racing on one of the various big TV screens all showing horse racing. This is a big pub with lots of internal seating and a large garden area for the summer. The staff were friendly and efficient. This is very much an old style drinkers pub serving budget-priced pub grub, very different from the gastropub formats so common these days.

We live pretty close and have done for years, and if I’m being honest, if we are going to eat in a pub we choose the King Stag or Horse & Chains usually.

Visited for lunch on Friday, although it was lunch time, pub was very quiet. Staff were friendly and service was to a reasonable standard, however the food was poor and our table was dirty, sticky showing poor hygiene standards added to this beer was off and was replaced, wine glass was also dirty - would not recommend to others and will not be revisiting.

Having lived in Bushey until my mid twenties I returned to Bushey for a family meal over the road at Za Zas and then went on to the Red Lion for drinks afterwards. I used to love this pub with a nice mix of people, however, ended up leaving early after the cast of the Jeremy Kyle show were shouting, swearing, falling over (and still getting served shots by the bar staff!) This is not the red lion I used to remember, very disappointing.

Eat at this pub about once a year - don't live in the area. Normally the food is fine. This time the food was pretty awful. We both had beef rib - they had ran out of the other meats. The rib must have been about 50% fat which at £12.95 was expensive. It was covered in a barbecue sauce which didn't really go with the rest of the roast. No we didn't complain - we were hungry and short of time. Pub needs to up its game - most pubs we have been to recently serve food and the quality is generally high.

the Pub is OK it did have football on the big screen need that back please . the food is just OK , they also keep taking the drinks away when you go to the smoking area, and when your back your drinks are missing , that happened to me twice now.

We were a group of 5, 1 being 90 years of age visiting this pub on a Sunday at 5.45pm and when we ordered our food we were told that there was only 1 leg of lamb, 2 roast pork, 1 turkey left.

We where a group of 3 visiting the area and short notice I emailed the pub asking about the England game against Sweden they where more than helpfully suggesting we reserve a table which I did it was right in front of a tv which was a bonus we all had food which was very good and the atmosphere in the pub was amazing so glad we found this pub

We regularly frequent this pub few drinks and a bite to eat, but on the past two visits the food has been poor. It seems as if both the kitchen supplier and the kitchen staff have changed, and not for the better.

Visited here as it is fairly local to us and we had been to the Tally Ho pub in Finchley which is part of the same Stonegate group and had a nice meal.

Food is ok at the red lion for a ping & ding. Camera card holders get 10% off. All good. Good choice of Bitters and wine. Kind and Friendly staff.

Arrived as part of a large and varied party - lots of young children and infants. Noted that place was very child friendly (good point). Ordered a range of food and it arrived quite promptly despite very busy bar. Food plain but fresh and good value for money. Impressed by how 'comfortable' the whole ethos appeared to be and given how busy and crowded place was, staff were efficient and friendly despite challenges of both adults and myriad of children.

Terrible attitude from the bar staff took our drinks without even asking if they were finished while we were outside having a cigarette . Lied and said that people in our party said it was okay to take 2 full pints and a bottle of Budweiser. Greedy liars in that place avoid it.

The staff although pleasant are seriously lacking training and supervision, having to ask several times for table to be cleared and wiped, and when it was done tables either side were not attended too!! I dont want to go and sit at a table let alone eat at a table where drinks have been spilt, menue wet and sticky - yuk, these very basic things and can create a very bad impression of a pub thats not clean or looked after

We attended with 6 of us for a Sunday lunch - 1:30 booking. My parents and sister had previously visited and dined in the back area, round the corner form the main bar. when they booked for us today, they specifically requested that area and were told that would be fine, yet we couldn't sit there as they had given it to another group. Never mind - we had an alternate table.

We were a party of 8 celebrating our brothers birthday it was the worst steak meal we have ever had my husband and my rump steak was burnt in fact it was cremated burnt black we told the waiter who removed the steak , we ate the chips and veg and he returned half a hour later with fresh steak which was better, we were offered a few drink each but would not return to eat here great shame as the pub has a great atmosphere , you need to have a chef who can cook properly don't know how he thought the food was acceptable, all the others food was passable , very dissapointed

With family just out for a catch up and lunch. We have never been in this pub before and found the lady behind the bar Terri really friendly and helpful. I'm Gluten Free and she made sure that what j chose was suitable. Really caring and friendly service. The food however was a bit disappointing- it was super quick, so much so that you wondered how they could possibly have cooked it that quickly, it must have been microwaved in my opinion. The risotto was very runny and did not have a lot of flavour, the chicken starter was pretty plain and the sausage and mash was quite bland. I wouldn't eat here again. The staff were very friendly though and easy to park too.

I frequent the Red Lion regularly - and have done so for over 10 years- for drinks and meals and have no complaints about the service, food, drinks, and general ambience of the pub.

We had burger and chips, was rather impressed at the finishing touches, food was really nice, good value for money. Would definitely eat there again.
