My god this is the worst place I’ve ever eaten ,got there at 13.50 place was freezing cold ,ordered drinks and then after 40 mins they came over to say they’d ran out of beef we had to have turkey 30 mins later the dinner came after 80 mins and was stone cold ,only peas and watery cabbage ,absolutely disgusting 🤮 if you are thinking of going please do not bother ,manager is a disgrace,DO NOT EVER GO HERE

Had a family get together here, the place was freezing, we waited over 1 hour for our food which was luke warm when it arrived, we was offered 10% off the bill after complaining.

Never open and very unreliable. Don't recommend at all

We have had an amazing Christmas day with you. Staff lovely nothing to much trouble, food fabulous.

We decided to try The Red Lion, after a family recommendation. The pub has recently changed hands and it seems that the new team are really doing a great job. We shared the garlic mushrooms to start, which was very well presented and very tasty - maybe could have done with a bit more garlic for me, but overall a lovely starter. For the main course, I opted for the steak pie whilst my wife had the rump steak. Both dishes were presented well, and were piping hot. The steak was cooked to my wife’s liking and was well worth the money. As for the pie…. It was jam packed with steak in a delicious gravy, encased within a beautiful pastry parcel. The steak pie was one of the best that I’ve had in a long time. All in all, we had a lovely relaxing dinner. Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Heard about the refurbishment and decided to give it a go on the way home from hospital. Hubby went in to the loo whilst I parked the car. Got inside and plane was cold and empty. Waited for hubby to decide where he wanted to sit and whilst I waited a rather large 🐀 rat ran from behind the bar area into the gents toilet. Needles to say we didn't stay. Manager obviously seen us leave and heard me screaming so came out to the car to ask what was wrong. Didn't seem to believe me. Hope he has brought in pest control. Shan't visit again.

Went in function room with friends, pre selected menu, served around 9.30, not enough food ran out of rice etc, manager very rude said he had cooked 3kg and that there were only 8 people who hadnt had any. After 15 mins we were called back to what looked like packet rice, manager said that would do. He was an awful man, insulting one of the friends. There should of been more than enough food as ten people had paid for food but not turned up.

Greeted well by (I think Katie), Looked after by every member of staff we encountered. Piping hot beautiful food, still at 5pm (Which is rare at the end of a carvery) The meat was well prepared and of a high quality, the beef in fact was one of the best I’ve ever had. I then had cheese cake dessert, again up there it’s one of the best. I can’t recommend enough, Go early to avoid disappointment, and go hungry!!! Or you wont fit it all in,(they’re not shy on the portions) As we left I overheard the chef to the kitchen staff, briefing them, and pretty inspiring toward them, And then I heard the owners asking the waitress is she getting home safe is someone coming for her, So a family run business that seemed to extend the family to include the staff, As a business owner, you’ve no idea how important this mens to me. If we’re in the area again we will return x

A very pleasant dining experience,Food was delicious as well as being hot. We had a short wait but that was because food was cooked fresh. Staff were very friendly. Much improved experience from a previous visit some time ago. Good luck to the hard working new owners

Went for a pie and mash "do" with oakenholt bowling and RNLI. We were in the back room, which was a bit chilly to start with. Pie and mash nice. Staff friendly and welcoming.

Nice place with pleasant service and all right interior. Ordered fish'n chips. The food came quickly and the waiter (and bartender) was a very nice fellow. Definitely recommend if you are nearby and are hungry.

Excellent food and service. Visited on a Friday evening and I have to say that the new people are doing a cracking job. The food was absolutely delicious- chicken tenders meal, honey glazed salmon - couldn't fault. Our waitress was so courteous - thank you. Do pay a visit as the food, etc deserves the praise.

The restaurant was not busy when we arrived at 6.15. The service was excellent as was the food. We really enjoyed our chicken liver pate as a starter and my friend enjoyed the Welsh rarebit, served on chunk of baguette. The fried fish is excellent, the lightest, crispiest batter I've tasted, served with mushy peas, chunky chips and tatare sauce. I had no room for dessert but my friend enjoyed the Belgian waffle and ice cream!

Warm welcome, Lovely lunch we had half Fish and Chips freshly cooked to order. Place is lovely and clean with a well stocked bar. Having had previous poor experiences under previous management - it’s nice to have people who are intent on giving excellent quality of food and service you deserve to succeed. This deserves the support of the local community, we will return.

(Under new ownership) We ended up going to this pub by chance as my Apple Maps took us to this “Red Lion” rather than a different one, and we are glad it did! The service was great, a friendly gent called Tommy served us and made us feel right at home. Refreshing to be served by someone who clearly enjoys their job and wants to provide a good service to their customers as it seems to be few and far between these days. We had mushrooms & rarebit to start and they were well presented and delicious. We had pie & fish chips for the main, big portion sizes and the food was hot and we didn’t have to wait long. The fish was super fresh and the meat in the pie tender. All round enjoyable lunch served with a smile. Would definitely recommend.

Great Sunday lunch last week...carvery was great and staff lovely there and at the bar. Food was hot, plentiful and tasty. Choice of three meats, a pie or veggie option. Lovely big Yorkshire's, roasties, mash, carrot and swede mash, peas and green beans, sprouts and cabbage. Gravy was good too. The chef came around for a little chat and showed an interest in us, which was a nice touch. We will return.

Opted for the carvery and was not disappointed. Good choice of food and plenty of it. Staff were happy to please and courteous. I recommend a visit as the location is ideal for the A55 and Mold area.

We visited this pub today and was so grateful for the excellent service and friendly hospitality we received. I can really rate the chunky chips and my husband very much enjoyed the tuna melt toastie which he pronounced delicious. It’s a huge help with plenty of seating and quite a nice decking area outside. Best of luck to our cheery host and his endeavours.

Second week in a row stopped for a bite & pint . Sat outside due to having a dog. Maybe visits here will lessen as the weather gets cold & wet because we don't want to sit outside with Billie

I named this review after the song that the chef was singing as we were eating our meal! The food was great, the service was exceptional...we came for lunch quite late, just after 3pm so while it was a little quiet, the staff were really smiley and friendly. The chef was talking to us from behind the hot plate and came over and said he could do some food that wasn't on the menu gluten free for my wife...it was just a really nice touch. Lots of laughs and we felt really welcome. Thanks heaps team, you guys are awesome!

Amazing service here, accommodated us as we had a dog, found the WiFi password for us and we're generally very friendly. For the long wait they gave us a discount too. The food was fresh too.

Went there today, was all ok until a found a grey hair in my 1 year olds chips. I approached the woman at the bar didn't get her name. I started the convo with 'I don't wanna cause a scene but I just found this on my son's chips' she replied with well that's not one of ours because no one has grey hair here. obviously trying to say it was mine or my 1 year olds haha I'm 30 full head of black hair. But the man who brought our food had a full head of grey hair. So I said he's got grey hair n he brought the food. She just shouted over me well what do you want me to do? So I said yano what because ya rude I'll leave it. She followed me to my table and was. Saying I can get you more chips. I said I don't want more chips it was literally the last chip I found it on. She just shrugged her shoulders and walked off. Terrible people skills. Didn't say sorry. Definitely won't be going back. I've been in hospitality for a while. She should not be working in hospitality. I could also hear her slagging me off to other staff but I've got respect for the elderly lol. Terrible attitude. Her name might of been Angela

This pub is now under new management. The atmosphere is friendly, and the staff are as well whilst also being attentive. I went there to try the carvery on a Sunday and I wasn't disappointed. The portion sizes are generous. The food was hot and very tasty and, overall, excellent value for money.

Such a gem. Decided to eat here as it looks so beautifully lit from the outside, it really caught our eye. The inside is so homely and cozy with a real fire, a very welcoming team with Anne-Marie and her husband Shaun. It was so lovely to have a chat with them. The food was just amazing! We both had fish and chips while our little one had nuggets and chips. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we are grateful that they made our dining out a good experience as our son has autism. Highly recommend!

Just had an amazing carvery! Hot, tasty and plenty of it! I’m quite fussy when it comes to a meal and loved this! Can highly recommend. Not overly seasoned and catered for even the fussiest of eaters. Lovely setting, lovely company and the pub was warm and cosy. Will definitely be back! Pity the carvery is only served on a Sunday as could eat this everyday 🤣.

The worst carvery I've ever had!

Awful food, and awful staff. Me and my wife had a meal both was cold being brought out. Told staff behind the bar one more interested in phone and the other wanting to know everyones life so she could obviously gossip, she had the mouth of a sewer and was picking her nose. Will never visit again especially when these staff are there what a let down to a beautiful building. Think the landlords seriously need to rethink their staff. Took me a few days to even think what to write on the review

Yesterday Ann-Marie and her fantastic team hosted our wedding. From the moment we met to the actual day, she could not do enough. From helping us with the menu to decorating the room. What can we say about the food, we'll it was not pub grub it was outstanding, and the presentation was faultless. I am so glad we were let down by our previous venue. Great Sunday lunch. Chef knows how to serve a tasty meal. Tanya maitre, d was good at her job. Da iawn I pawb.

We went on Saturday, I can honestly say this was the worst meal and experience we have received in any restaurant. Serving our food while holding the plates with blue roll, hot plates for starters even though they were served with salads, we had to ask for cutlery after our starters, mains were 2 mixed grills just about edible and 2 mushroom tagliatelle that couldn't be eaten at all, no seasoning and the sauce was congealed and gloopy, no food check during our meal. When plates were taken away I explained why they couldn't be eaten to which the owner replied 'that's usually alright'. One meal was taken off the bill but I'm afraid we won't be returning.

My sisters and I loved everything about the place. Traditional building, great interior, very friendly and welcoming owners and a traditional pub menu. We really enjoyed the food and the service was great. We’ve put it on our list of places to go to have a leisurely, tasty lunch. 👍👍🥰

I really appreciated the effort that went into my meal. Having visited the pub previously they made me feel incredibly welcome & spent time discussing my needs. Their thoughtfulness and effort meant I could happily spend Christmas day, eating with my family. The atmosphere was brilliant... we had 2 children in our party. They enjoyed themselves & it was relaxed and welcoming... We enjoyed a game of Christmas pool, not something we'd done before. A huge thankyou to the lovely owners. We pre booked to have Christmas lunch here with the family. My partner has quite complicated dietary needs and as such she can't eat a lot of foods. However, nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond to accommodate her. This made me feel relaxed and at home. I, myself is a vegetarian and my starter of parsnip soup , my beetroot Wellington roast dinner and my cheese board was lovely and flavoursome. Can I just say the cheeseboard is the best cheeseboard I've had for a long time and i eat a lot of cheese lol!!- a beautiful array of cheese and accompaniments. It was bloody gorgeous and I love mexicana cheese.

We called in at the Red Lion in Northop with couple of friends and there burger was ok and my daughter in law had mushroom tagliatelle and it was edible , I had fish and chips the batter was way over cooked i left most of it as enough said about that, I know there new owners but you have to do much better than this and some advice as I been in Food Catering myself make sure you have everything your offering on the menu and make sure if it say Chicken burger with chips and coleslaw make sure you have chicken and coleslaw available :)

Decent food at a reasonable cost. The Red Lion is now open 7am until 11pm, 7 days a week. Breakfast, Lunch/Dinner, Evening Meal.

Disappointing sadly ,we have been here before and really enjoyed the carvery ,went Sunday for hubby's birthday ,warmth was sadly lacking really cold no fire on not sure about the heating .,the two lovely ladys were as usual welcoming and helpful other waiting staff didn't seem to know what was happening ,I feel it was in the kitchen that lacked,we waited 30 min for pudding was told the microwave wasn't working when pudding arrived was still cold , waited another 15 min and decided to call it a day .having said this we will give it one more chance as this is not the norm for the red lion .

Came for the carvery on Sunday 20th November, the landlord/lady are fantastic hosts and can't do enough for you. We had the nutroast carvery followed by the red velvet cake and apple crumble tart and it was delicious. Definitely going back at some point!

Sunday carvery, enjoyed our lunch, wide choice of meats and veg .The beef looked a bit too pink for my taste, and the chef offered to slice a portion and give a few more minutes, cooking time the result was perfectly to my tastes waitress staff polite helpfull and friendly We were impressed by the chef who came to each of the tables for the customers views on the food served .
