A genuine village pub (it's owned by the community) with a good ambiance, well kept local beer, award-winning food and top class tenants. NB! An occasional name on the pumps is 'Community Endeavour', brewed by OXBREW exclusively for the Oxfordshire Community-Owned-Pubs Network. The beers on tap change regularly: all are brewed in Oxfordshire or a neighbouring county. The photos include three 'Shepherds Huts' that are available for B&B.

I spent two cozy, very comfortable nights in one of the Red Lion’s shepherd’s huts and would highly recommend the experience. It was as well appointed as any hotel room, with nice touches like an Alexa speaker and complimentary gummy sweets. The heating worked perfectly (it was freezing outside) and the bed gave me an excellent weekend of sleep. The bathroom is fully functional, despite being in a detached building. The continental breakfast was fantastic and delivered precisely at the pre-arranged time. The pub itself has excellent food and two cozy fireplaces. Perfect for a quiet weekend of country walks. (My only suggestion would be slightly bigger bath towels.)

This resturant has amazing potential to become great. The welcome was fantastic, and the hosts behind the bar and serving were attentive and kind. The choice of beverages is good. The meal, however, was disappointing considering the price paid. I am happy to pay a high price for great quality food, but this certainly was not great food. Starters consisted of a parsnip soup that tasted sweet and glupy thickness of saliva and no flavour. Steak and chips. Surely it would be hard to get that wrong? Well, it was a bit of a damp squib as the chips were 3 x or 4 x fried and tasted old as though it had been cooked very early in the day or the day before. The salad was nice but straight put on a packet with sainsburys parmesan shavings on top. The steak was cooked well but had no real taste or seasonings, and at such a high price, avoided using ketchup as the use of such condiments can make dog food taste good. We also had a vegetarian meal that could have been great, but vegetarians need protein, too. Vegetarians don't just eat vegetables. We asked for an additional item to be incorporated in the vegetarian option, but instead, we were given an accompanying side dish of grilled halloumi with no seasoning sauce or anything. Could have made this myself at home. Celeriac in breadcrumbs were tasteless, absolutely no flavour. Desert was apple tatin, but the caramel was burnt, and we couldn't get the pastry off the plate. Even the spoon got stuck, and we left it to stand vertical. This is not a whinge or complaint, just a record of fact as we didn't want our money back it was just disappointing. The red lion gave us this meal and obviously believed the meal was fine. We were asked if everything was ok, and we said yes as it was a quiet pub, and we didn't want to make a complaint but would have liked to speak to the chef. It would be great if the Red Lion could look at the menu and also taste the food that is offered to customers as I'm sure the issues could be rectified very quickly. This pub is a long way from most houses so most people would need a good reason to travel to the pub by car. Good food would do it. Please try harder with your food and I'm sure you will be very successful

Best pub in the area for a relaxed meal and pint. Food is excellent and reasonably priced, you can tell the chef really cares about the quality. Service always attentive and friendly. Beers on tap always different, but well-kept. But it’s the atmosphere of the place that wins it for me; no intrusive music, just soft chatter and log fires. The perfect country pub.

We had such a lovely Christmas dinner this week. To start I had the salt and pepper squid: one of my top favourites. Then we had partridge as main course: tender and tasty with delicious vegetables. To follow I had the delicate and creative quince dessert. The food here is always good, and this little pub is in the Good Beer Guide so it's always good to start with a nice pint, which I did! And with the meal we had the house Portuguese red which was yummy and sensibly priced. The fires were lit, the Christmas tree was decorated and the service was friendly and professional. And all this in a country pub owned by the community and rightly called a 'little gem'.

Walked here for lunch, from our caravan after reading the great reviews and we weren't disappointed. It was a lovely day so sat in the garden where two friendly chickens came along to greet us. We decided to try the Northmoor Red Ruby Devon Beef Burgers, I had the Skinny Fries and my husband had the Chunky chips and both were delicious! Desserts were the Strawberry & White chocolate cheesecake and Custard tart with Raspberry puree. They were to die for. The waitress was lovely and very attentive. Thanks for an amazing stay in your beautiful shepherd's hut. The hut itself is beautiful, with electricity, hot water and a real loo! The log burner is a nice touch. However, the included extras really make this good value money, free continental breakfast, free coffee, free wifi and electric, free bedding and towels, plus soap, shampoo etc in the bathroom! The gardens are beautiful too, we were so tempted to put one of the hens in the car with us! Added to all that, the pub and restaurant! Yes, there's a pub on site that also serves original and tasty meals. Lisa and the team are lovely and we'll definitely be back before too long!

A really great, typical English pub with a good atmosphere, friendly regulars, who made us feel welcomed, and attentive staff. The food menu was extensive and not pretensious. My venison burger with blue cheese and chunky chips was perfect. The huge plate of liver, bacon, mash and gravy my 93yr old mother ate it all and loved every mouthful. My sister had the vegetarian crumble which she said was so much better than the usual, generic vegetarian option. My nephews steak was huge and cooked to perfection....really impressed with the portion sizes. My only gripes are the length of time we waited for both our courses ( though the chef cooked everything to perfection), although there were 2 log fires we were all rather cold and, It would have been fantastic if the Red Lion had a cheese selection for those of us who prefer savoury to pudding.. Only went because it is close to my nephew's lodgings but can't wait to go back and interrupt his research.

We called this Sunday for lunch ..early as my wife was working at 2.30 . When i rang to make the reservation i asked if they catered for Gluten free as my wife is celiac ...yes was the answer ...now dont get me wrong ..the food was lovely and good service ....however i am very very dissapointed for my wife ...gluten free to most places ..edpecially here means removing from the plate and not replacing ...where i had a lovely beef lunch ..my wife didnt have a yorkshire pudding ...no cauliflower cheese or aything with gluten ..but was the same price ...peas were offered to her but she waited ....please please ...use cornflower in yorkshire puddings...better than plain ..buy frozen gluten free puddings ....you will be thanked honestly ....if cheese sauce is used ...do plain veg ...please dont short change ...its very hard for a couple to go out to eat when i salavate at menus but my wife gets half a plate or cant eat anything that is offered .....veganism is taken serious and thats just a personel diet ..if someone took gluten options serious they would make a fortune ...food for thought ...its like saying we have a gluten free apple crumble then putting apple sauce on the table .....without that i would certainly give you 5 stars ....but the reasoning above is why i have given 3 ....please give the place a go ...just dont if you are celiac ..

Hadn't been here for a couple of years so thought we'd visit again being as we were staying close by. Stopped in for a Sunday lunch, small family of 3 with a 5 year old. What I liked about this pub is there's no background music piped out which makes a nice change. The welcome is warm and friendly enough as you'd expect for a community pub that's been running for a good few years now. Being as it was Sunday, we all had a Sunday roast which was topside of beef (£16) and a child's roast pork (£7) all of which were throughly enjoyed. The roast beef was plentiful and tender with the roast spuds crispy on the outside. We ordered an extra side of veg but only due to personal preference for lots of veg! Desserts were also enjoyed and while an ordered coffee was forgotten about, it wouldn't stop us going back again, as we have done a few times over the years. A good country pub as it should be!

Cannot recommend a stay here enough, such a treat, especially with the option of booking all 3 huts! Stayed for a long weekend with family, which was perfect as we all had our privacy and space (the huts feel super roomy, even the shower is a good size) and then sat outside of the huts for food and drinks, luckily in the sunshine! Highly recommended getting food from the pub, not a single meal disappointed, the croque Monsieurs are huge! Nice Thames walk on the doorstep, everything was spotless and everyone we interacted with at the pub made the stay extra special +++++ Wasn't a problem for us but in case you haven't noticed from the pictures, as specified these are set up as b&b accommodation so no cooking facilities - there is a fridge though 😊
