Red Lion in Poole

My other half was intimidated by some of the 'gentleman' in the pub.... Used in the loosest term. Luckily she only told me after we left otherwise I'd have kicked off. For a family pub, the landlord wants to keep control of some of the customers.... Ps Update thanks for the comments and I'll make her aware of the Angela scheme.

A good place to watch sports on TV and enjoy a good pint of Guinness. Toni is an enthusiastic bartender and takes pride in pouring a good pint of Guinness. She's almost always smiling and knows how to interact with customers.

My favourite pub in town, great service, great landlord. Highly recommended 👌

Went here for a meal last night with the wife, lovely place, great atmosphere, served almost immediately with a nice green king IPA an a lager, stayed for the chicken n mix meal too, very nice, will be back again next week i think

Other than a steak we had which had no taste everything else was absolutely fine and food was lovely. Great atmosphere, and would go again.

Food smashing but the oriental women is the only let down she has been nothing but rude each time we visited if she would smile and serve without having a tiz it would be 5*s I've even witnessed her shout at a old chap because he didn't understand her instructions buck up!!!!

Went to watch the rugby. Half time and some bournemouth fans came in so they changed the channel for a few football fans. Absolute joke

Excellent pub. We've visited this pub many times over the past year, and had our fair share of dinners. My wife and I had dinner here earlier in the week (Monday) and again today (Friday). Food is really good. Always quick service, really well cooked, served with smiles. The menu is great. Something for everyone. Staff are fabulous. It's a sports pub, so if you don't like football, golf, rugby etc al, don't bother! Atmosphere is always great. Boisterous? Yeah. But when isn't a good pub boisterous!! Excellent local pub.

Just DEVOURED my gammon egg & chips! The most flavourful gammon I’ve ever eaten, stunning poached eggs on top with a side of absolutely exquisite chips at the perfect fluffy to crunch ratio I’m absolutely beyond satisfied with the customer service and very short wait time even on a BUSY Friday night. Could not recommend more in gonna have to eat here breakfast lunch & dinner now. WOW😆🤩🤤

The staff and management were consistently friendly and accommodating. Fifteen of us enjoyed a meal there; the food quality and price were excellent, and the service was fantastic. I'm unsure of the names of the two gentlemen behind the bar, but they were both friendly and efficient. Thank you to Anna for making the reservation.

Staff lovely, efficient and friendly as is the atmosphere here! I ordered the Quorn sausage , mash & peas. Unfortunately the sausages were hard & dry (as if they had been left out under a heat lamp for hours). The mash was very peppery & pretty dry & lumpy, peas & gravy were OK. Was disappointed as had some good meals here before. I didn't complain as time was an issue.

Popped in to drop off for recycling sweet tins and stayed for breakfast baps. Absolutely lovely, hot and tasty with excellent friendly staff 😋

We were there xmas day could not of wished for a perfect day .food was perfect service excellent. Good atmosphere plenty on the plate .5* all round .highly recommended. Be back for 2025

Had lunch on Christmas Day at The Red Lion. The food was fabulous and huge portions. Service was excellent as always. Really well organised. Thank you to all the Team - we had a lovely time.

We always come to the red lion. Being both over 80 it is fantastic value for us. The service is next to none. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. To top it all the food is wonderful. Will be back soon.

Great local pub, only second time I have visited with friends / family and won’t be the last, absolutely terrific value, food is well cooked drinks are well prepared, we had gin and tonics - lovely glasses with fresh lime and plenty of ice food portions are generous and the ‘deals’ represent great value , the staff are wonderful and the pub is clean and well run. Easy online booking system too. Thank you for a lovely afternoon team.

Absolutely first class, for everything, couldn't fault a thing, came in with a large group for Christmas lunch, have not been there for a number of years, it has improved beyond recognition, well done everyone.

I underestimated the portion sizes and ordered way more food than I perhaps should have, but it still wasn't nearly as expensive as I expected. Service receives no complaints from me, staff was good. Atmosphere I docked a point for the sports just because it isn't for me. Visited on a Monday in the afternoon and it was quiet, food came fast.

Incredible portion sizes, lovely staff, next time might not need to buy so much food each but really appreciate the incredible value for great meals in good sizes. Not super huge amounts of vegan options but the options available were good.

Visited here tonight for an early birthday meal with my partner. Everything was excellent 👌 food was lovely and my partners steak was perfectly cooked. Since the new take over, the place is amazing! Clean, tidy and food is fantastic! Will be visiting more often. Hats off to dave and his team who have really turned this pub around.

Went there this morning and had the All day Breakfast,and very nice it was to.Two eggs,two sausages,two rashers of bacon,half a grilled large tomato,baked beans,and a nice portion of chips also a slice of toast,option of either white or brown.The service was excellent,didn’t have to wait too long,and a very nice and warm cozy atmosphere and the price very reasonable at just over £9,set me off for the day that did,thanks Dave,see you again mate.👍

We were on holiday in the area and booked a meal on speck not knowing what it would be like. It was full when we arrived with a very lively atmosphere. We had a good table and the food was ordered easily at the bar. We had a mixture of the two specials and also a steak and the fish and chips. Everyone enjoyed the meals which arrived quicky. Quality was excellent and price very good. It was the last night ofour holiday and it left us with a good memory. 👍

Went in due to being on holiday nearby, staff were very friendly and helpful, food was fantastic and the restrooms might have been the cleanest I've ever seen. Highly recommend.

Down here in Poole for holiday and just pop into this pub 9n the off chance. What a surprise. The price of food was not overdone and was served piping hot and quickly. It was 5 pm when I visited, and it was heaving. Would recommend it to anybody that is around

Ate here twice while staying at Haven, both occasions food was very good and hot, would recommend and will eat here again if I'm down this way again

The girls behind the bar are so fast they must be magicians. The pub is wall to wall people and the atmosphere is humming. Very dog friendly, not too noisy. The food menu is very creative for pub grub and pub classics. Congratulations Green King but you must pay them more.

Such a great place! Totally transformed in the last few years under new management. Great food, great atmosphere and the staff are superb. Would absolutely recommend for a family meal or just a drink with friends,

Great atmosphere, great staff, Lisa really goes the extra mile; however I have to make a special mention to Jakob who took solid control of the meat draw. A real family occasion, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. Almost like a ‘meat bingo’ for all your culinary needs. I won; however we still had frolics with ‘Dave the Landlord’ who did not appreciated all the ripped up tickets being thrown his way. I would fully recommend this pub to all of my friends, and the £2 carlsbergs are a must. If football is not your thing, there are occasional screenings of Bullseye, or quiz shows of the 80s in the late evenings. An absolute must visit.

Very good value for money.Plenty of room so you can relax without being overheard when talking.Can get served easily. Sports pub so great if your interested & promotions during events to get even more value. Look for the daily promotions there an absolute bargain. My favourite local pub with plenty of seating outside too. Download the green king sports app to get discounts on your drinks 1hr before during & after any sports event their showing.Your even get a free pint for doing it. Don't forget to play the score king game to earn 20% drinks discount & if you're lucky enough to get the score right it's another free pint on your next visit but watch the expiry date.

Just an update on what a great place this is. In particular I like Sundays and the meat raffle, really family friendly atmosphere and great for all the family. Keep it up!

The food was OK but not enjoyable due to the loudest meat raffle I have ever heard. Absolutely inappropriate language for a family pub at 5pm, the organiser of the meat raffle seemed to find it rather amusing that somebody complained about this last week. So he decided to do it again. The same regulars, with very limited and simple vocabulary, decided to then come and sit next to our 2 young boys and continue to shout and swear, forcing us to move in the middle of our meal. And then again for our pudding due to another group! It was the end of a very enjoyable holiday for us, and has left us all with a negative final memory. We will never eat here again and I'm sure others who were attempting to enjoy Sunday dinner feel the same.

From the time we set in the door their was a warm welcome. The table they reserved for us we couldn't get the baby buggy near but it was no bother and they swapped us around straight away. You couldn't ask for better or service for the cost. Pity not all customer service is like this. Hope to return soon the Lamb family.

This is a pub that is pitched perfectly for locals that want pub food at a good price. It's not the most swish but the food was good and extremely good value. If you get the right night then your favourite meal could be a steal eg burger for £5. Fair beer selection. Not a lot of atmosphere but probably quite lively at the weekend. Plenty of sports screens.

Came in after being disappointed by another local restaurant that wouldn't serve food without a booking. Very accommodating even though it was busy. Food was served quickly and very tasty, and good value for money. It's a much nicer place after it's refurb and we'll definitely come back.

Usual green king, good value menu. Food was nice and hot and served with a smile. There is a terrace to sit out on and plenty of car parking at rear.

Visited with a good friend from Bristol food was very good and we enjoyed ourselves.

Just visiting for the weekend. Booked a table on recommendation of a family member. Easy to book. Very polite and friendly staff, plenty of car parking around the back. Ordered the food and came in good time, piping hot and absolutely delicious. Everything was cleared away and the desserts came out. The salted caramel Cheesecake dessert is a winner! The toilets were nice and clean. Very pleasant place. Definitely will go back again when in the area. 10/10 Highly recommend to anyone in the area or if your just visiting like we were.

The roast dinner was so lovely on the Sunday that we went back today for lunch 🙂. Great little find and perfect location for staying at Rockley Holiday park. Food portions were great, staff were friendly and the kids enjoyed the menu (even with an extremely fussy eater). Fantastic value also!

Went with my friend for a lunch. Prebooked the table and that was right thing to do because it was pretty busy over there at the lunch time. Waiting time was OK, the food was good although they brought me not the dessert I ordered but as I said it was good as well. Also the food was reasonably priced, will definitely visit again.

First visit since the refit and very pleasantly surprised. Staff have always been great. The new decor is warming and brightens the place. Enjoyed my first meal on the new menu and will be back.

12 of us were here for a meal for a 50th. This was an already busy Friday night with lots of drinkers and eaters! We all had piping hot, well cooked and delicious meals. Every one of us. The staff were extremely polite, friendly and efficient. We really cannot find any reason to fault them. We had a vegetarian and a gluten free bod and they had plenty of variety for us. Great food, great service and a very good price. I would highly recommend The Red Lion.

Fantastic value & even better quality. Service with a smile & also checked that it was all good. Will definitely be going back before we go home. Also had puddings. They we're just as great.

Never thought of visiting before but we were so impressed with the food and bar staff, we will definately return. Not going to lie looking at the menu and pictures we thought it's too cheap to be true but the steaks were amazing, big portions as well. Well done Chef! Bar staff was also superhelpful and friendly. (Just no more sticky tables and menu's please! The refurb looks great!)

After a not so good experience last time we went, wasn't sure about going back. It has changed hands and was well worth the visit. So much better. Lovely food at good prices. Lovely atmosphere. Went with a large pre- booked party. No wait for food. Will definitely be returning. Thank you xx
