Another fortunate find ,love a good Chinese,and this doesn't disappoint. Hadn't booked just turned up . Staff very friendly,and very quick to serve . Large selection including pictures . Spoiled for choice ,all the dishes looked amazing . Anyway its the best Chinese food I've had ,ever in the world 🤣and not too expensive. Will I be going again , hopefully. Belly gives it 5 stars .

A lovely place to have a late lunch after the crowds have gone. All the dishes were hot, tasty and the beer was cold! Good toilet facilities. Our waitress, a younger lady was very polite and helpful. Noodles and crispy seaweed were particularly great.

Visited on a weds early evening, 4 of us enjoying a couple of days in Manc. Red Chilli was recommended as a good place to eat by in laws. Really glad we took their suggestion. We went for one of set menus and all our food was fresh, very tasty and plenty of it. We particularly enjoyed the spicy hot smoked mutton in chilli oil. We weren’t rushed. Our server was attentive but not intrusive, and the bill, with wine, was very reasonable.

Myself and 3 friends paid a visit on a week night and while there was a number of occupied tables we were immediately welcomed and seated. Service was prompt but not overpowering and we never felt pressured to rush or give up our table. We ordered wine from the very friendly staff to accompany the meal which we deciced was to be the set meal for two but for all 4 of us. The menu was a mix of the usual dish choices mixed with what may be considered more traditional. Each course was a delight, fresh and hot and each dish was extremely tasty and the flavours really jumped out. The 'spicy' dishes were not too spicy and retained their depth of flavour and some of the spices remain a bit of a tasty mystery. There were choices for some of the courses which catered nicely for our varying tastes and was a filling mix without being 'outfacing' amounts, accompanied with rice and crackers. We had some friends visiting Manchester a couple of days later and we immediately recommended it to them. I'm absolutely going back there when i'm next in Manchester.

Wanted tea before a show at the Apollo. Hubby doesn’t really do Asian food but we couldn’t be bothered looking for anything else. Authentic Chinese, we knew nothing on the menu! Asked for something spicy and I got Gaongbao chicken with peanuts and chilly – was nicely spicy. Hubby a basic chicken curry. Large portions though. With one portion of fried rice and two beers £36

Very informal restaurant in a basement , nothing fancy about the decor at all , but the food is really good , fresh , tasty and authentic! Id deffo go back !! The service is good too.

Just left the red chilli restaurant after me and my wife went as a last minute new year feed. We arrived at 5pm and was met by very welcoming staff who showed us to our table. We ordered the £30 each banquet for 2 and a couple of cobra beers. The food was absolutely fantastic,as was the service. Would highly recommend this place and will definitely be back. Thanks to the wonderful staff.

Chose this place due to it being close to our hotel and very good reviews, definitely not disappointed in fact very impressed. Food was lush, great choice of dishes, freshly cooked and very tasty. Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Food was ordered and on the table within 3 minutes. PING! The shredded beef was so hard it was inedible and furthermore contained all batter, zero beef. Told the waitress (who was lovely) but couldn't care less. You'd think any Chinese in Chinatown would be fantastic but this places felt grubby, dirty and overpriced. Boxes all on the stairs where you have to climb to get to the loo, not ideal if there were to be a fire. Needed a really good clean. Poor meal, nice staff but complaining got us nowhere. Avoid

Absolutely horrific…wouldn’t feed it to a dog. Went to china town with friends expecting an authentic Chinese meal for our final night after having lovely during the course of our holiday and we were very disappointed when we stumbled across this place. We were seated and a drinks order was taking and the initial waiter was actually nice. We then ordered food, 2 salt and chilli chicken (very hard to mess up) , veg spring rolls and a chicken showman. When the food arrived we dug in, the vegetable spring rolls were mush on the inside with a strange taste with nothing resembling vegetables on the inside, we asked were they fresh, the owner said they were but they didn’t taste it so I sent them back. My friends salt and chilli chicken was simply fried batter there was no chicken at all. You’d nearly break your teeth crunching on them. The owner spoke to us like we were stupid when we tried explain there was no chicken to be seen. The chowmain was actually lovely until I found flies embedded in the bowl which I scraped to the side of the bowl. When we were leaving the owner did take the spring rolls off but made us pay for everything else. We were getting dirty looks from all the staff during the course of our meal which made us feel really uncomfortable as tourists. As three people who all work in a restaurant we know how to treat customers, deal with complaints and try resolve them for customers and this place certainly does not. Stay away from this place at all costs if your visiting Manchester as theres so many nicer and friendlier places to eat !

It's been a few years since we have had a Chinese Banquet and whilst staying at The Brooklyn Hotel we asked if they could recommend a good Chinese Restaurant. They said try Red Chilli Chinese Restaurant which was literally over the road from the hotel. To be fair first impression was that the interior is a bit dated. But the food more than makes up for it. we ordered a Banquet for two. Started with 'Hot and Sour Soup' brilliant, perfect as described, good portion. next course seaweed, spring rolls, spicy wings, all freshly cooked. next my favourite, Duck and pancakes, perfect. Finished with Lemon Chicken and Beef and fried rice. Great meal could not fault any of the food, staff friendly, drinks reasonably priced. Will definately be visiting again, when we are in Manchester again in August. Banquet was £60 for 2.

Delicious supper. The whole family loved it. Service was superb - so friendly & efficient. More than we could possibly eat! So pleased it was recommended to us. We will definitely return.

Worst Chinese food in Manchester. Ordered 3 dishes from Red Chilli Portland Street through Deliveroo. Delivery was fast but the dishes were very disappointing. Chicken in chilli oil sauce (Chinese Name: Kou Shui Ji) is really blank and it was like a boiled chicken being rashly dumped into some tasteless water with some cucumber slices. Fried king prawn coated with salty egg powder costs you £15 but there are only about 10 small prawns. The Spicy pig intestines are just about average, lack of flavour and seasoning again. In general, all three dishes are poorly made, and the portions are extremely tiny. For a total of £35, it is a complete rip-off. Definitely avoid!

The good here is just fab. Every time I go I'm reminded how great Chinese food is - this is an authentic sichuan so expect chilli, expect odd things on the menu and fat on your pork. It is the tastiest food ever! Nothing remotely like what you get in a standard takeaway.

I ordered a vegetarian soup, and even explicitly said 'vegetarian' when ordering, yet halfway through eating I realised the soup contained both pork and shrimp. This made me physically sick and left me feeling ill for hours. I understand there was a language barrier and I was given a full refund upon request which I appreciate, but no one apologised to me despite me being visibly upset and I didn't feel like the staff really cared. As a result, if you have any kind of dietary restrictions I'd definitely avoid eating here

We came here after reading some of the good reviews and we weren't disappointed. It is one of the best Chinese cuisine we have come across. The food is very tasty and the service is equally good. Staffs are very knowledgeable about the food and helped us decide what to have. Very nice atmosphere and hugely welcoming. We will definitely be visiting again for sure ! Highly recommended.

My husband and I visited here for a rare childless meal so we were really looking forward to it, especially after reading some good reviews.The service was slow and we’d actually eaten our starters before our drinks arrived. The starters were average.We then ordered belly pork, crispy beef, noodles and rice. The belly pork was so fatty that over half of the dish was completely inedible! I appreciate that belly pork is a fatty cut, but this was white wobbly fat, it really made me feel quite queasy! When we spoke to the lady about she seemed to think it was ok. The rest was fine, but I’d already been put off by the belly pork! They also add a 10% service charge onto the bill, I know this can be taken off but just make sure you check and don’t add any extra on top. Our bill totalled £55 and we really don’t think it was worth it at all. The ambiance was poor, scruffy paintwork, basic toilets and very old crockery. I was served a lemonade in a Stella lager pint glass! Not really what we expected at all!!!

Thanks to the Red Chilli team. Fantastic food, accommodating a large group of hungry men at very short notice.We left the team to select our food and they provided a superb array of dishes, all good size and totally delicious.We departed very happy, full and only £25 a head including drinks.

We were looking forward to a great Chinese meal and sadly left a little disappointed. I can't complain about the service at all, our waitress was excellent, very friendly and hospitable. We ordered salt and pepper chicken wings and baby squid to start, these were fine, but flavour-wise everything was a bit muted. For mains we ordered a mutton dish which was nice enough (although the black pepper overpowered any other flavour) and the crispy shredded beef in Cantonese sauce. The sauce was supposed to be sweet, sour and spicy - but it was soooo sickly sweet that I could only have a few bites, which was a real shame. Overall, the food was just ok/average and I was very disappointed by the beef. Sadly, the average food just left us feeling that we didn't really get value for money, as I know that this cuisine at these prices can be phenomenal. As a result, I don't think we'll be visiting again.

Dinner for one. Staff really friendly but food disappointing. Squid okay but tasteless. The other recommended dish just swam in oil and made me want to vomit.

When Red Chilli opened in the early 2000s, it was the first Sichuan restaurant to open in the area. Anyone who might have called themselves a foody went (that’d include us). It even appeared in the Good Food Guide and had a national newspaper review (Jay Rayner – he liked it, as everyone liked it). There was a menu of almost exclusively Sichuan dishes, with a big “homestyle” section on the menu – dishes featuring offal and packed with chilli (the restaurant name is something of a clue).

Having visited China this restaurant was very reminiscent of the food we had there. We chose soup and dumplings to start and a noodle dish which was a Beijing meat with cucumber and a fried mixed Seafood with rice dish which were both very good. Very large portion of noodles. Staff very friendly and helpful. It’s downstairs in a cellar and is not a fussy place. It’s enjoyable food though

My husband and I ate at this restaurant 26.5.19 from the outside there is little appeal but once inside we were pleasantly surprised. There is a lovely atmosphere, the food was tasty and reasonably priced. The dishes were a good sized portion. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

When my son and I walked in on a Saturday night @ 8:30 the restaurant had a 50/50 split of oriental and English customers, so we sensed the food would be good and overall we weren’t disappointed.

Bad experience ever.every few minutes diffrent waiter's kept asking if we wanted to order drinks.Service charge of 10% was added to the bail.They should not be any extra charges other then the food bail.

Visitamos Manchester y pensamos que un chino estaría bien. Niza no lo fue. El lugar parece que no ha sido decorado en años. Muebles antiguos y espejos manchados. El bebé devolvió los calamares como algo horrible, las costillas eran solo trozos de hueso, el pato rallado era normal. No puedo creer lo rápido que se puso comida en la mesa, literalmente 2 minutos. Placas de piedra fría. Comer fuera es todo acerca de la experiencia y esto fue muy malo. Pruebe en otro lugar.

Went this week. Fancied a change with colleagues instead of the usual curry. Decor of the place could do with some money spending but the food was good. Really enjoyed all the courses especially the duck. Made a nice change!

Visité aquí con un amigo justo antes de Navidad y me pareció muy bueno. La lista de vinos era sorprendentemente buena, la comida era muy sabrosa pero el servicio era lamentablemente deficiente. Waiters kept talking to my girlfriend in mandarin when she doesn't speak it. 10% service charge added to everyone's bill. Food wasn't very good and the chili rating on the menu just seems to be random as it did not represent spice level at all. Generally bad experience.

We had some nice food, ruined by idiotic staff. First one waitress on seeing me finish rushed up and snatched away my bowl knocking my wife’s chopsticks while she was still eating. Then on leaving I was held by another waitress saying I hadn’t paid, when I just had, then she ran into the street saying we hadn’t paid. She shut up when I showed her the card receipt. Incompetent and insulting.

This is the place we visit every time we are in Manchester. Top quality, authentic Sichuan dishes, never disappoint.

I have eaten Chinese cuisine in cities all over the world. This food was overpriced and the worst chinese food i have ever eaten. The staff were rude and unhelpful.

The waitress did not speak any English, kept asking if wanted something different to what we were saying on the menu. She brought us whatever she liked. The chicken tasted like pork. The beef was stone cold, like it had come out of a can. The food looked nothing like it did in the photos in the menu. The sea bass was good. Then surprise, when we were ready to go.. a massive cockroach climbed on the table looking for his friends, and there was another climbing on the mirror behind me. We showed the second cockroach to the waitress and she just took a napkin and picked it up and put it in the bin. It was disgusting.

Very average food that came out worryingly quickly. Poor choice for vegetarians. The sauce on my dish had clearly been made out of a packet as there was still lumps of powder in it. Wouldn't recommend.

Just avoid it at all costs. The staffs are extremely rude and do not welcome customers as if they don't want you to eat there. Food is mediocre and the standard has gone down compare to last year. There are better places to spend your money on Chinese food seriously....

By far some of the best Cantonese food I have tried for a while. I jad the pan fried sea bass and soft shelled crab and it was excellent.

Ordered the banquet, sat here bored at the table watching them serve all the tables that came in after us. More interested in setting tables for no one to sit at than serving us. Food is decent but I'd rather eat somewhere that tries to care rather then here.

Today we decided to drop by at the Red Chilli Restaurant on Oxford Road for a meal. It was about 3.45pm, and the restaurant was relatively quiet. We were sat at a table at the back of the restaurant, and handed menus to look at. I began to breastfeed my baby. Shortly afterwards the restaurant manager walked past the table and said, “Do you need me to get you something to cover yourself up?” I replied that I did not.

Went on the Sunday of Chinese New Year so to wait was to be expected. Food came quickly but nothing was particularly tasty. Dim sum was stuck to paper and had to give up trying to peel it off and eat the paper. Menu was very Chinese. 90% dishes that you won’t find in your standard Chinese restaurant in the UK

Hadn't been here for a few years, it used to be a regular haunt of mine once. Unfortunately, probably because the restaurant was so busy, it was Chinese New Year's day, service and quality left a lot to be desired.

真的很失望， 以后不会再来这里吃了。蛋黄南瓜的蛋黄不多，而且分布也不均匀，有的南瓜上有蛋黄，有的南瓜上没有蛋黄，而且味精的味道特别重，我没吃几口就不想吃了。东北拉皮味道也不好，没有放醋，肉丝切成了肉条，不正宗。

Just passing and decided to try it out. Not a decision i will ever forget. The food was amazing! Staff are very attentive. Whome place is clean and immaculate. The food choice is very large and very diverse.

Honestly if I had more stars that I could give to this place I would give all the stars. Staff is really nice and friendly. My 2 year old son was not wanting to eat as soon as the food arrived and we were just about to leave when one of the staff members Wendy said she will show him the fish. Amazingly he starts eating and sits down happy. She took the care and reassured us he was ok. As parents you do get scared but I had a eye on him all the time. Highly recommend this wonderful place. Oh and the food was amazing as well. Thank you so much Red chilli.

My brother and I shared a vegetarian set menu and it was delicious- sizzling aubergine, tofu cooked to perfection. Just simply amazing food. Would recommend.

Nothing really special to write home about. Good if you like Chinese to have a spicier taste. Very dry duck/pancakes starter. Chilli beef was very good. Very quiet and nearly empty when we visited.

I’ve been eating at this restaurant since I was 21 and have never been disappointed. It’s my favourite restaurant in town. I even get my partner to order my favourite soup for when I finish work after a long day and I get two portions. I recommend the three delicacy hot and sour soup. I eat two portions at a time the food is amazing and the service is brilliant. Couldn’t rate it enough.
