I was so looking forward to Valaria after seeing all the hype on social media. Don’t get me wrong, the interior is aesthetically pleasing. We were originally sat at a table next to the door and were moved to a better area. It took some time for service and to place orders then a goooood while for our food to arrive. When it did arrive, the croque Monsieur looked lovely and I went for the salmon Benedict— now, for £14 it was a small portion & quite frankly didn’t look anything fancy. When I cut into the poached eggs they were both well done. I tried to get the attention of a member of staff for some time to no avail leaving me to get up and quickly get the attention of the greeter at the door. I asked if I could get my eggs runny she just replied “ok”, no apologies— I know that it wasn’t her cooking them but her customer service was shocking. Maybe she was just having a bad day, as she looked like she didn’t want to be there and her attitude reflected it, however, upon reading most recent reviews the service appears to be poor so who knows. When I received my replacement it was just put down to me with a “here you go” no apologies, sorry about your wait etc. This time around I was given more of the beetroot hollandaise which made the dish less dry. However, if I didn’t know that it was made with beetroot then I really wouldn’t have been able to say that it contained beetroot, it was rather flavourless. We ordered more drinks and both times the glasses came out warm and the waitress stated they were short on glasses? Perhaps this was the wait?! I was quite fed up by this time, however the cakes DID look good so we caved in and got some. My friend went for the sticky toffee biscoff and enjoyed and I had the cherry choux bun and I must say it was delicious and stuffed with cream. They did, again, take a while to arrive at our table which I couldn’t understand as they only needed to be put on a side plate- I would have been quicker doing it myself. I wish that I settled for a couple of cakes instead. I definitely would not do brunch again, and I know they do evening tapas now and my experience today has put me off. If anything, I would get a take away cake. Also, there’s an added 10% tip charge— I always tip anyways but what i have noticed in places which have this automatically added to the bill the service lacks as if it’s just expected now as I doubt many ask for it to be removed.
