Rare Steakhouse in Greenwich

Terrible prawns - cheap & tasteles - tasted like cardboard. And the steak was so tough it was like leather. Dreadfull.

This restaurant is now permanently closed, and has been for a considerable time. It is still possible to book this restaurant on line, which we did and obviously ruined our evening.

Great staff and excellent food, really enjoyed the food and the wine list is good!

Left here absolutely shellshocked. Had a wonderful meal and were just enjoying our coffees when the (presumably) owner stormed in and went to the kitchen and began screaming at the chef. It was awful, he was so aggressive, shouting and swearing in the kitchen loud enough for us to hear every single word. This went on for a good 4 minutes. No need for that sort of aggression and language whatsoever. The waitress was very embarrassed and kept apologising to us. We felt so uncomfortable we had to leave our coffees and just pay the bill and go. Such a shocking end to a lovely night. Won’t be back.

Small restaurant, nice personal service. Decor very nice, very clean and well finished. Starters were lovely, generous portions of Chili Prawns and Calimari. Main of scampi was very nice, large portion and great tasting scampi. Fillet steak wasn't a fillet cut, probably a rump as it was quite tough although quite tasty.

Lovely place, staff are nice and friendly and the food was sublime, the venison loin steak I had was gorgeous and my boyfriend said he really enjoyed his burger too. Would definitely recommend.

We were recommended this restaurant through friends and we are so glad they did. The restaurant is a little gem. We tried the cocktail menu and I can recommend the Cosmo delicious!! We all had steak and it was amazing melt in the mouth I always find it had ordering steak as most places never cook it how I like which is medium but this was done to perfection. Our waiter recommend some lovely side dishes and sauces as well as a lobster tail which I had never tried before but will definitely try again. We had a fantastic night and even met the owners it’s a family run business and they were lovely and joined us for a drink. Rare is exactly what it says a RARE find!! We cannot wait to return for my birthday next month

We went there Saturday night and had the most amazing food ever. Steaks are thick juicy and tender and large. My partner had fish and seafood and this was awesome so fresh. Staff are very polite and welcoming. Lovely establishment. Will return frequently. It’s a must to just either have a meal or celebration. So impressed.

I used to love the food at Rare and have ate there numerous times. However, on the last few occasions I noticed the steaks are much smaller and thinner than they used to be. I ate a 12oz steak which was thin and small. I then ate the exact same steak in a different restaurant the day after and it was 3 times the thickness and much bigger. It is VERY obvious Rare are ripping diners off by selling steaks that are not the weights they claim they are in the menu. I will not be returning, if there’s one thing I cannot abide it is being ripped off!!!! AVOID!!

Unfortunately our visit to Rare Steakhouse was an uneventful experience. Front of house staff were very poor, when asking about where they sourced their meat... one replied the butchers! The quality of the steaks were not good, this place is not a steak house and I believe it needs to find a identity. My party and I ordered a number of starters; calamari was over fried and very hard it had to be returned to the kitchen, prawns were ok, stuffed paratha not good. We ordered 4 T bone steaks for main course, as mentioned above the quality of the meat was not good although the main course was cooked as ordered. With steaks at around £26 each we expected better. With 2 bottles of Barolo and no desert, the bill for 4 came to £260.00. This place needs to revamp its menu, find its identity, train the front of house and maybe it will survive. I can’t see myself going back and my colleagues will not return. This place was a recommendation from a relative, of which I realise probably does not like me that much for such a recommendation!!!

Very dark inside with a very confusing and complex menu. Chinese, Indian, Thai and of course steak. Food was good but huge portions and over sized starters. Husband is coeliac and they could not guarantee gluten free on a lot of the food but steak (without rub) and chips were fine.

Good wholesome produce, fresh ingredients. Pre ordered 30oz prime rib but wasn't available due to supplier error. Ended up with 60oz prime rib as all that was available, plenty of meat to share but slightly overcooked, was medium rather than medium rare.

Me and my partner came across this restaurant in greenwich and thought we would give it a try. We was approached by a lovely young lady who showed us to our seats she was very polite and very smiley which is lovely to see on entering . Our food was Divine from our starters to our mains. We will most definitely be returning.

We went there the other evening and we had a lovely meal. I have eaten a lot of steaks over the years and I couldn’t complain about mine. I don’t really like fries (there were loads of other substitutes) but these were light and fresh and the coleslaw was amazing. We had a lovely bottle of house red which was Malbec I think. There were no other customers in there maybe as a week night but couldn’t fault it. Glad I didn’t see the last two reviews before I went as they could have put me off. I think there’s a cocktail bar upstairs which looked lovely going up the stairs

Worst stake in years. I can’t understand the good reviews. We went on a Friday night. It was just another couple and us in the restaurant. It was cold. Thr food took over 50 minutes to arrive. My stake was a shoe sole. Rubbery and not tasty. Staff left 30 minutes after we had ordered to go to the supermarket to get the beans we had ordered as a started which as a result arrived as we were finishing our dinner. An absolute waste of money.

This restaurant has a nice atmosphere and food and service were very good.

This steak in the restaurant was delicious. I like mine rare and ordered the 12oz Ribeye. More often than not I find it difficult to get a rear steak when I order one, this was cooked to perfection and was full of flavor. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. I'm going to take my family and friends there when they next come to London.

One was a Chateau Neuf De Pape, which was fairly acceptable - although overpriced. The other was a a Margaux, which was significantly past it's best, flabby, probably 3 years past it's best drinking age. I explained this to the waiter, and he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. He was open about it - he knew nothing about wine, at all. This at a restaurant that advertises itself as a steakhouse. Just incredible. My steak was significantly overcooked - I asked for medium to well, I received something that would have been more at home at a beeteater pub. If you think this is a perfectly cooked steak, then you have absolutely no idea of how to cook one. Honestly, I'm genuinely bemused by the amazing reviews for this place. It's like it's a different restaurant. The one I attended is a competent harvester pub - at best. That's an absolute mile away from a real, serious steak restaurant. Please do not encourage this by attending.

My colleague put it best - he stated that the restaurant was well-named, as the chances of him ever coming back were extremely 'rare' indeed. Please do not encourage this by attending.

Had the Sunday roast which was excellent. . will definitely be returning now one of my favourite places to go for a meal.

Did a Google search for ‘ the best steak in Greenwich ‘ and Rare seemed to feature very highly in a number of reviews. Fortunately we booked a table as it filled up to capacity while we were there. I have got to say that my fillet steak was probably the best steak I’ve ever eaten. My wife had the beef stroganoff which she said was superb. Oh and our starter of grilled halloumi with pomegranate and green salad was delicious. All the other starters that we saw being served looked equally as good. The service was friendly and efficient, so top marks all round.

We have eat in this restaurant twice the first time was in 2017 and the food & service was brilliant, we went back last Saturday 30th June and was really disappointed we waited approx half an hour from time of ordering our starters ,the waiter asked us how long we would like to wait for our main course,we said 15mins would be fine. We was left waiting for our main course 50mins which was when we asked how much longer it would be. My partner had t/bone steak which was tough and full of grisle ,which he left, I asked for fillet which was tough and full of grisle. There was only 3 other couples eating so there was no need for poor service and the food was not good. We would’nt recommend this restaurant to friends or return here ourselves.

Had a great time they’re bought two of the 30oz prime rib steaks and they were excellent. Fantastic value at under £40. Will definitely return! Great hospitality and very welcoming.

Lovely meal here on the evening of Fri 22nd June. Very nice steaks and a good bottle of red. Food was very nice and service was good. Would recommend for a nice evening meal.

Found this place on Tripadvisor and it didn't let us down, called in during day to find it closed, left message on phone and they got back to us.

My husbands steak was perfectly cooked, my MR steak came out medium, atmosphere/music was enjoyable, staff very attentive. This is a restaurant whereby you are there for a while, enjoying your evening.

Intentamos algunos de los lugares en la calle trafalgar, que estaban ocupados (donde habíamos estado antes) y tenía se quedaron sin comida. Tenía un aspecto raro en la ventana que ofrece un asado. Lo intentamos y fue fenomenal. Yo realmente no puedo recomendar lo suficiente.

Tuvimos una cena maravillosa aquí el sábado por la noche. Personal muy atento y educado, noté que la comida era un poco lento y nos pro viene ofreciendo una bebida activa en 'en la casa', no teníamos prisa, así que no había dicho nada. La comida era deliciosa, volvería de nuevo.

So disappointed!! I called the restaurant about 7pm to tell them I’d be late for my reservation at 8.30pm and I was told, in these words “no need to worry, we are not busy tonight so come whenever you want”. Nice guy I thought...

Service was pleasant and helpful in accommodating food intolerances. Nice variety of dishes to suit meat eaters as well as their non-meat eating companions. I had lobster tail with a complimentary prawn. There is a large list of side dishes as well. Really something for everyone.

Cozy and intimate small restaurant. Service was excellent, though one waiter looked like he was new and looked a bit lost. Had 2 delicious cocktails to start, which had a great mix of ingredients, followed by a great wine. Their wine list has a great variety of different grapes and prices. What impressed me is that even though they call themselves a steak house, they have different cuisines like Indian and Thai dishes as well. Steak was cooked perfectly, and really good sizes. I will definitely be returning!

Very good restaurant with excellent and high quality food with a wide choice. Ambience is also good with room around the tables. Service was average but very friendly. The only problem was inexperienced waiters but obviously learning and will improve but as stated friendly and helpful. Recommended.

We really enjoyed the food, especially the steaks which were very tasty and cooked perfectly. Great selection of sides and a good wine list. Service side, some staff had knowledge of the menu but others did not. Starters took a while. Spelling on the menu also amusing ("Potterhouse steak" "Backed Camembert")!

I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. As first time customer’s we weren’t sure what to expect, as we were recommended by friends as it’s there favourite restaurant. We have been to so many Steak houses over the years, but nothing compares to the service, the food, the cleanliness and the attention to detail. Cocktails to start were delicious. Fantastic food, a small restaurant so you may wish to book in advance. A hidden gem. Way better than all the bigger restaurants in the town centre. Forget those and eat here. Gorgeous food

Restaurante muy oscura, en la carretera principal. La bienvenida fue impresionante y bien hecho. Pedí un vaso de vino tinto malbec sonar ordinaria esperaba un principal con el alma la venta. . Sin embargo conseguir un el cordero de la firma, que era increíble. Un montón de hierbas, cilantro, menta, salsa de hierbas mezcladas (escabeche) estaba muy bien hecho y añadir algo nuevo a la placa. La (larga/lento) de cocina del cordero estaba muy bien hecho. Una gran mesa en Greenwich Village para N seguro!

We went here with my son for his 18th birthday and what a great meal we had.The steak was cooked so well. The starters also were delicious with portions to satisfy the hungriest of diners, and believe I'm usually a pretty hungry diner.We'll definitely be returning.

The quality wasn't good enough for the quantity. Hugely overpriced for very small portions and terrible service. Such a shame this place used to be lovely before it changed hands.

Nice neighborhood restaurant. Steak was a little thinner (20mm) than I'd like, which probably caused it to be slightly overcooked (I asked for rare and it came out medium). Nice atmosphere, and the service was very good. Afterwards I took a nice walk up the hill to the Griffith Observatory, and caught a great sunset.

Well cooked quality food and good to see the menu is not too vast. Visited this restaurant twenty years ago and the steak was good then, good to see it's still on par. Not rushed out the door, staff efficient. Will definitely be returning.

I love this steak house in Greenwich. It's quite small and unassuming from the outside, but the food is great and the service very friendly. The fillet steak is mouth watering as are the sweet potato fries. I have visited a few times now since moving to Greenwich and highly recommend it!

I visited Rare Steakhouse for the first time yesterday, and had a lovely experience. My boyfriend order the porterhouse and I had originally order the half lobster but was told afterwards that they were out - however the server was lovely and offered to give me 5 jumbo prawns instead. I decided to have the fillet steak instead.. when the food arrived we were offered 2 prawns free of charge, which was very lovely and thoughtful. The steaks were delicious and perfectly done to our taste. I would definitely recommend!

The decoration of the restaurant is all black , is not a huge restaurant but is really really nice and very charming staff , the food is delicious ! Also A very romantic place for a lovely dinner. Very good choice.

We visited for a birthday meal after receiving a voucher as a gift. Everything about our visit was really excellent. Food was delicious, drinks superb and service was friendly and attentive. Our waiter, Sanjib, could not do enough for us. All plates were clean after our meal! Prices are on the high side, but worth it for really delicious food and great service. A most enjoyable evening, and we will definitely return soon. Highly recommended!

Been before so chose this for my new(ish) date to impress her. Did not dissapoint. As we were going on to a venue neither of us wanted to pig out and shared a starter. The main of steak was cooked perfectly and delicious, the garlic mushrooms in cream were beautiful. The house red was impressive at the price. The staff knew we were heading off to a venue and made sure we were well attended to without rushing us. All in all a relaxed atmosphere, good food , good wine, good service, not overpriced we will recommend and return.

The food was amazing, portion sizes were excellent, the steaks were cooked to perfection and the camembert starter was to die for. The staf weref very friendly, helpful and attentive without being in your face. The restaurant had a warm and cosy feel about it. A great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Mark and the team were excellent hosts producing quality food. Mussels were very good and my rib eye was cooked to perfection. You must try the triple cooked chips, crispy, crunchy and soft inside. My Wife had the Lobster Thirmador which was also very good. We asked for a 20 minite gap between starter and main, nothing was too much trouble. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

We found Rare to be very good, 5 of us for a family meal Friday evening, large and very tasty starters, main courses that delivered well, not much room for desert, decent service but it did get very warm the place is quite small. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. Certainly eat there again.

Food was of great quality maybe just a bit to much of it 4 king prawns to start and 5 scallops main courses did not skimp either. Bottle of house white was only £20 so not over priced at all. The bill came to £135 for 2 of us which for a Thursday night business/friendlymeal out was a little steep and this did not include service. I would go back again as the food was excellent but I would need a good reason to as it was not a cheap night out and there are many other places where great food is offered at cheaper prices But there steak menu was impressive!

After checking into Apple Apartments, we decided to take a stroll through the neighborhood and stumbled upon Rare. What a great decision! It didn't look like much from he outside, but never judge a book by it's cover. The environment was warm and cozy. The waiter took great care of us...the food was phenomenal and the drinks were superb. Our dishes consisted of salmon, fish and chips, lobster and chicken. Each member in our party was thoroughly satisfied!

Really lovely food. Waiters were caring and made sure our food wasn't rushed to us. Some of the starters were a bit big (especially calamari!) so struggled to finish the steak which was a shame because it was great! Would definitely come back!

The steak was exceptional in a fairly unexceptional setting. <br />The steak was wonderfully tender and cooked with precision. It had that melting quality of superb steak.<br />The service was far from tight but it was entertaining and all food arrived hot and together.

This restaurant is amazing the food is on point especially with their seafood the scallops always cooked to perfection with lovely herb lemon sauce the lobster is off the scale cooked so well that it was still juicy the cocktails will sure to get you off your head lol

We have a lovely evening at Rare. The steak was delicious as well as the sides - would definitely recommend, one of my favourite steak restaurants. I was surprised it was quite empty on a Friday evening but the atmosphere and staff was lovely - obviously a little Greenwich hidden gem restaurant

Due to unforeseen circumstances we could not go to our originally planned restaurant so had to find somewhere else at very short notice. Not being local we did a search online and happened across the Rare Steakhouse. This was a very lucky find! Although not busy we were made to feel very welcome. There was a hen party in and another table of 3 people. Our food arrived and it must be said the steak was lush. Nicely plated up and plenty of sides to go around our table of 4. By the time we had finished the hens and the other table had left, often when this happens you tend not to stay for a pud or anything else because you feel you are keeping the staff late but the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and insistent that we could finish off our meal. As it happens none of us had room for a pud so we all had a cocktail to round the night off. The cocktails were fabulous, it was nice to try something different as we all normally go for espresso martini but they couldn't do those but the ones we did have were lush. Well recommend this restaurant and I would certainly go again when next in town.

Went to Rare steakhouse the other night very friendly staff the food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the food they had out of our party of family and friends. The steak was beautifully cooked and of a big size well worth the money.

I dont want to say much about this place but yeah if you love steak this is the best place to visit. You wont be disappointed.

Have stopped going after being overcharged on two visits.They present you only with a total bill, which is ridiculous and wrong.Is it lawful?It was only when I asked for an itemised bill could I see where they wrongly added on the £s.It's also a small, dark restaurant and it attracts a loud, boozy, chavy crowd with their ageing wannabe WAGS.So you can hear every foul-mouthed word.It is also expensive.Not a pleasant experience.

I booked Rare on an online recommendation. We came on Saturday 27th Feb at 8:30. Firstly beware of the huge step upon entrance to the restaurant. It's a definite trip or falling hazard. Our table wasn't quite ready on arrival so we were asked to take a seat at the bar upstairs. The stairs are very steep and the bar is much like sitting in someones living room. The restaurant itself was much smaller than I expected and there are just two toilets one male and one female.Now for the food. I had the scallops for starter which were absolutely delicious, there was also Calamari which I was told by my friend was also lovely. My boyfriend had the baked Camembert, which was nice except for the fact that it was served with crackers and not bread which was a let down. For mains we all chose steak. 3 of us having the 12oz rump and another the 8oz fillet. Each main comes with one side and one sauce which is good and the steak is also served with a small salad. I would recommend the Dauphinoise potatoes but the sweet potato fries were very greasy. The meal for 4 people and drinks came to around £200 which I think was very reasonable considering the portion sizes and quality. I would definitely come back here but would suggest to management that they serve bread with the Camembert

The service was great. The steak was cooked properly. My appetizer was made up to be very fancy, but the prawns were small and flavorless. Restaurant was empty on a Sunday night.

The food was excellent both the starters and the main course were good with decent size portions. Atmosphere was okay however one of the waitresses was quite abrupt, made us feel slightly uncomfortable at one point and let down the other members of the team. For the price charged I would expect a better level of service from the staff and an itemised bill. Whilst it was a pleasant experience, it did not &#039;wow&#039; me and I thought that it was slightly roo expensive for the experience I received. Would probably not go back again.
