Ranulf Restaurant in Cheshire West and Chester

I saw the poor reviews but decided to stay open minded.... well the negative reviews are correct! Paid for a family room with breakfast. Gets down to breakfast there's a cold offering of stale croissants, cereals left in the open air and a hot menu. 80% off choices on the hot menu are an extra £5 per person. I'm pescatarian so had No choice. I ordered something with the £5 supplement and was asked to pay immediately. Totally embarrassing i didn't have my purse i had just woken up. No option to charge to room. Never been to a hotel like it!

Breakfast was managed poorly and most items were missing most of the time. Bar food was very expensive and poor quality.

The food & service must have improved over the past year because I had absolutely no problems during my stay at the hotel. I had the set menu and was expecting the quality of food not to be that great but i was really surprised at how good it was (and decent value too). The only thing I will say is the restaurant was quiet when I was in, so I can't say what it's like when it's busy. But it does seem like it's turned a corner now.

Food is overpriced and dreadful. Portion size is miniscule. Left hungrier than when I came in. Avoid at all costs.

Very disappointed with our food. Dreadful service and food was worse than whetherspoons.

Poor quality food for the price you pay and very long wait. Only redeeming feature was the friendly waitress.

Over-priced, less that whetherspoons quality, food. 45 mins to wait and there was only 5 people in the restuarant, of which we were 4 of them. Kids meal with 'greens' served with baked beans, a steak that was missing things that were asked for, and chips that have definitely been cooked, and served, a few times before. Waitress was really friendly. All in all though, not good for somewhere that talks about a premium service.

Absolutely terrible service. My party had starters and a main and waited over 2 hours. You could smell food being burnt in the kitchen. There only appeared to be 4 members of staff for a whole restaurant with no one quite knowing what they were doing. Would not reccomend

Nice food, friendly staff, drinks a bit pricey!
