Lovely food, good service and really cheap

Ordered for the first time and I must say it was the most terrible test less Indian food I’ve ever had. Absolutely waste of money. I would never ever order again. 😤😤😤

This restaurant is one of our favourite places to eat. The food is excellent & so is the friendly service. You can bring your own wine which keeps costs down & suits us fine. There are plenty of dishes to choose from & the portions are good, so we always end up taking some home. We have been to a lot of Indian restaurants over the years but this is particularly good & very convenient for us to reach. I would highly recommend.

Had a take away from here tonight and it was amazing! Delicious food and prompt delivery. Not at all greasy like we've had from other restaurants. Portion sizes where large and it was very good value. Will definitely be ordering again soon. Thank you so much xx

Consistently good food. Pleasant, helpful staff. Good menu choice. Every time I try somewhere else I regret it, never as good. Bring your own booze, only serves soft drinks. Highly recommend, gets busy at weekends, but quiet in week.

We've been several times. The food is always good but last night it was exceptional. Great value and with BYOB and no corkage it's a steal. The fish dishes are amazing.

Chana bhaji was the runniest and most watery I've ever had! No flavour and chickpeas under cooked. Dhansak was mid and not at all spicy which was disappointing. Not gluten free so be careful.

I ordered a Tikka Kharai (medium hot, semi dry dish cooked in a karahi, iron wok with fresh garlic, ginger herbs, grilled chunk onions, and green pepper)… This was the second worst Indian meal I’ve ever eaten! Two tiny pieces of meat, the onions weren’t grilled but raw, and there were no peppers… It was just basically a Chinese curry sauce and very bland. I can’t stress how bad this place is and it’s not the first time, but I thought I’d give it another try… Avoid, because even a cheap supermarket curry is better than this garbage… And this is supposed to be a ‘semi-dry’ dish… 😆

We had takeaway and really enjoyed it. We'll balanced spices. For price it was reasonable value. When we collected really liked the decor etc, so we will be making a visit in person. Especially impressed by the implacable manners of the gentleman who served us.

Really nice food, proper tarka Dahl, we ordered a lot and they forgot one dish, when we rang to ask about this, they delivered the dish ASAP with extra popadums etc, very nice, thanks

Onion bhaji was so bad it broke my tooth will cost over a thousand pounds , nan was also hard and burnt , poppadoms were like cardboard. The worst and most expensive curry iv ever had. Giving one star was the lowest I could find.

What a disappointment. The Chicken Karahi portion was average but had no flavour. I order karahi because it's usually full of flavour. More taste in a Hospital Canteen and that's saying something. The Chicken Shashlic portion was atrocious mainly onions and little in the way of chicken also flavourless. If your on a salt less diet and don't like spicy food then maybe this will be your thing!

Called in on Saturday evening with my partner and another couple, restaurant was about half full, we had a table booked just in case. Was greeted with the warmest of welcomes, really friendly staff. Food was delicious, I had a onion bahji starter and a fish tikka main with rice with a garlic naan. It's bring your own beer or wine which I dont mind. Prices are more what you'd pay for takeaway and to be honest I would say a bit on the cheap side, I think they're underselling themselves. Highly recommended.

Micheal Palin begins his 2015 article for the National Churches Trust (NCT) website with a story about his trip to Pakistan, before moving on to discuss the beloved church where he was baptised - St John's, Ranmoor. I very much doubt that I was the only reader of that article to pick up on the not so subtle linking of the Indian subcontinent and the leafy suburb or Ranmoor, for me, as it seems with Palin, the two are (culinarily speaking atleast) inseparable. Inside Ranmoor Tandoori you'll find a whole host of spiced dishes and fresh soft drinks (if you want something harder, you'll have to bring your own ;)). The decor is lavish, the curry absolutely fine and the waiting staff impeccable. They even payed a little homage to Micheal himself in the form of a jape. Providing us with menus displaying prices 10 - 20% below the actual value of the food - straight out of the Flying Circus. We were of course more than happy to pay the difference (and a little more) in the honour of the local Python. A side splitting end to a stomach bursting meal. He's been all over the world but has he ever bettered the curry at Ranmoor Tandoori? Answers in the comments. Comfortably the best curry in Ranmoor. Amen xxxx

Food ok. But they sneakily raise every item by £1 each on the bill compared to menu. The owner/manager was rude, he snapped at us when we politely asked why our food took so long to arrive. We felt disrespected - he did not offer a simply apology which would’ve been appreciated, instead raised his voice and essentially told us to get over it and walked off. An attitude like that is how you lose business my man

Worst restaurant experience ever, if I could give a 0 star review I would. Firstly, we got our food 45 minutes late, our daal order was sent to another customer and they completely forgot about it. We were charged a different price from the menu set. When discussing our experience, the owner/manager was incredibly rude and stormed off, he was dismissive of our experience and retorted by saying 45 minutes is not a long wait. I guess 2 hours would be a long wait in his terms then. So disappointed in this experience, as me and my friends were looking forward to this night.

Lovely pickle trays… nice traditional curries… and I would recommend the Meat Shaslick… it’s lovely! Great spot in Ranmoor and a reliable place to nip for a filling curry after a few pints at the local! Pretty quick service and can generally rock up a little late and get a table. Bring your own booze which makes it a really good value dinner.

Visited a couple of weeks ago first visit after covid. Very disappointed with quality of food. Chicken burnt and rubbery. Meal seemed as if it had been microwaved to heat back up. Very friendly service though

Up until recently, I hadn't eaten here since being a teenager, but my parents had come to visit and were staying close by so we thought we'd pop in, and glad that we did. The service was really friendly, and considering that the night we turned up there was about 40 students on a big group night out filling one side of the restaurant, our order was taken quickly and our food did not take long at all! If I could make a minor gripe I had the tikki prawn special and there were not very many prawns in it, but the sauce was really delicious. Also, my mom had the chicken shashlick which she said was a little dry, but everything else was so nice and the restaurant was so busy we still enjoyed it. The only other thing is this is an old skool "bring your own booze" venue (which we had totally forgotten!) but it didn't ruin the meal for us, we'll remember next time! Overall for a local curry house, it's worth a visit!

Tried quite a few of the dishes on different occasions … particularly love chicken “Khari” … and peshwari Naan. Delicious naans and chapatis served piping hot. Great service. Reason for 4 not 5... the interior decor is lacking atmosphere... too brightly lit, too white... if they lowered the lights and used candles real or fake it would help a lot.

Came here with the family for a Christmas Eve curry. It was really enjoyable in every way. Staff were great and they took time and trouble over our order. The waiters gave us advice on our food choices and ensured that we had the right choice of dishes which complimented each other. Service was efficient and altogether the whole experience was a complete pleasure. It all set us up nicely for the Christmas festivities. I would highly recommend this restaurant and am already looking forward to my next visit ! Update 24.12.22-nice meal!

I've ordered from here around 5 times now because the food is really good, however 3 of these times the order hasn't been correct when it's been delivered, missing a meal/wrong type of rice/forgotten the poppadoms... Really let's this place down considering the food is actually lovely

I have been going to Ranmoor Tandoori for over 20 years. Sadly I no longer live in the area but every year we have a large family get together with old neighbours and visit. They have never forgotten us, treat us like family, food is always amazing and the service is excellent. this is definitely an institution within the area and a must visit!!

Nice but plain decor, very clean, waiter's are all lovely and the curry is to die for. Pops and pickle tray fresh - nan bread floats and rice perfect. Meat quality is very good. My wife had the lamb which was beautifully tender and zero fat - as it should be!

One of the worst take aways we have ever had in Sheffield. Tasteless food and reheated rice. That picture is meant to be Tarka daal. Avoid this place.

This is my first review as I generally give places just 5 stars if the food was good but I had to come to actually make a point of writing about my terrible experience. After getting delivered a plain rice instead of a Naan I simply call up to explain the issue and ask if there is any chance I can get another rider out to deliver it and I even had no problem returning the rice(I would’ve not minded if they said unfortunately not we’ll just refund you for the rice). I get told that they would call me back in 15 mins, 35 minutes passes by and I am calling to no avail, at one point I’m pretty sure I got declined. But I’m persistent. I changed my id to be private and called again instantly the phone was picked up on my 7th ago. I explained the issue and was met by excuses and a harsh tone, I even just asked why I wasn’t called to which the response was “I don’t know, I’m here now”. I then asked so I can’t get the naan then? The answer being no, I then say okay I’m just going to be asking for a refund for the whole meal as I’ve been waiting 45 minutes at this point with my food getting cold the response being “ok” and hangs up the phone. Not an apology once, no sense of remorse in tone. Almost felt like it was my fault ahaha. I probably wouldn’t have minded as much if the food was actually good ahahahha All in all there’s deffo better options with better service and food.

The meat was over cooked and rubbery, the sauce tasted like spicy water.

Unfortunately, this was the most tasteless curry I’ve ever had. Watery and chewy; really hope a little negativity now can be turned into a positive in the future. Sorry.

Always used to be a local, as such most convenient for a quick easy meal. Also stood the test of moving further away, as still curry of choice even after being a bit further away and not as convenient. Good selection and portion sizes, easy to recommend you share a fee different dishes to get a variety. Rice and naan is perfectly ample sized to share between two.

I placed an order for collection and was told it would 45mins. I turned up at that time, and was told it would be another twenty minutes wait. We came back after 20 mins and the order still was not ready. After waiting another 15 mins, with no apology or explanation - we left. Atrocious customer service. No idea what the food is like!

Was refused service at 2100 on a Wednesday evening for a take out curry. Apparently the kitchen had gone on strike I do like eating here, but was not prepared to sit on the picket line till i got fed!

Yet another lovely evening on 17-Dec, with great food and company. I have known the proprietor Abdul for 30 years and he is always amazingly polite and hospitable. Last visit on 19-Nov. Looking forward to a meal in the New Year.

Poor welcome, new decor feels cold and not relaxing. We had to wait 1 1/2hours for our main. We had to help ourselves to water out of the fridge. Food was not very hot and the lamb was mostly gristle. We were very sad as we had previously enjoyed a warm comfortable welcome in the past. It's off our list now ☹

We had had several visits here some years ago and were excited to return with our family. Sadly it was a poor welcome. New decor is cold and uncomfortable. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for our main food. My husband had to get water out of the fridge. The food was not as warm as we would have and the lamb was entirely gristle. Such a shame. Won't be returning.

Curry was missing from my order, rang restaurant and was told they can't replace it because they were too busy.

Ordered food for take away via Deliveroo. Food arrived hot and on time. Picked this place for the good online reviews and as it had one of the shorter wait times at prime time on a Saturday night. Lots of chicken in the masala and the chicken chat was one of the best I’ve ever had. Rice was fragrant and tasted very fresh too. My only comment would be the peshwari naan could have had a bit more coconut and sultanans as parts of it tasted plain. Overall, lovely take away which I will definitely use again and recommend to friends.

Really enjoyed the food from here. The tandoori chicken was tasty- as it is one of my favourite things as long as I enjoy it that really makes the meal for me. The keema rice was interesting, I've never ordered it before. Delivery was pretty prompt (just a little late) and the prices were very fair. The main change I'd have made is that the spice level I chose was extra hot for my tandoori chicken- I'd say it tasted like a medium- and then my curry I ordered hot and that tasted mild/medium at best. It would be good if this could be looked at please.

No iría a ningún otro lugar por un curry y excelente precio, además de tomar sus propias bebidas.

We ordered a takeaway meal for four. By the time we got to the restaurant the meal was already prepared. We took it home and it was warm and the meals were extremely good. I had "Akbori Sag Massala" which is described on the menu as a delicious combination of meat or chicken mince, spinach, chickpeas, coriander, green chilies and lemon. I had it with chicken mince which were really very small pieces of chicken. This was simply delicious. This was listed under "chefs special" dishes. All the other dishes were also excellent. The prices of meals were very reasonable at around £7.50. When we picked up the meal we were not offered a receipt after we had paid cash. We, however, did ask for one and were given a receipt which gave the date and stated "meal" and the price. None of the dishes were itemised on the receipt. The total amount, however, was correct. I would certainly get food from this restaurant again as the dishes we had were ones I had not had before at Indian restaurants and were of excellent quality. Next time I would ask for an "itemised receipt".

A very friendly restaurant with a good atmosphere and very good food. Takeaway is also available and the only problem is choosing what to have because it's all delicious. The whole family come here for get togethers and we have never been disappointed.

A gloomy restaurant with gloomy staff, and very average food. Be aware it is BYO, but there is a shop two doors up.

The food from here was really good. We ordered a takeaway and went to collect. The decor on the inside of the restaurant was really outdated, could do with a refurb, but the food we received was really nice. Very flavourful, still hot when I got home, fairly priced, decent size portion. Would definitely recommend here for a takeaway.

Worst meal we have had from here (take away) all food was cold , onion bhaji was like concrete , sheek kebab tough and tasteless . Curry had to put in oven to be able to even try never mind eat and its only supposed to be a bhuna but spicer than a madras and clock cold. Naan bread like rubber and cold. Been here many times but will never eat here again .

We were a bit weary if this restaurant would be any good, the interior maybe a bit dated and no alcohol served (an issue with my husband more than the rest of the family). But the service was lovely and the food were delicious. The Samosas and popadams prepared with love, no hint of grease/oil :)The mains were equally delicious but man those nans.....the BEST I have ever tasted.We will be back!

Our local Indian takeaway and we’re big fans. Great food, friendly service, decent prices. Bring your own drinks. There’s an off-licence next door if you forget so not the end of the world. Good selection of authentic Indian dishes. Well worth a visit.

Venir a RanTan hace más años de lo que me importa recordar. Nunca he tenido una mala comida. Nunca he tenido un mal servicio y nunca tuve un malestar estomacal, lo cual es muy positivo. Este lugar ha existido durante tanto tiempo y puede durar mucho más tiempo.

No puedo decirte lo mal que fue esta comida. Pedimos algunos entrantes para un poco de variedad. ¡Los poppadoms estaban bien, la cebolla Bahjis estaba quemada! ! ! We wanderered in on a Wednesday night and I’m so glad we did. We were staying at a nearby hotel and had a few drinks at a local bar so we’re looking for a hearty meat and we were in no way disappointed by this place. Our waiter was attentive and friendly the food was fresh and very tasty. We didn’t wait long and thought the portion sizes were excellent. I would definitely recommend this place and when I’m next in the area I’ll be sure to return.

Not been here for long time and went on the spur of the moment.

We went to the curry house for a work colleagues leaving do, the decor and atmosphere was very welcoming. As a party of 14 we ordered starters and mains but when asked about gluten free being a ceoliac the waiter seemed a bit clueless having told me the poppadoms were gluten free and then running back to the table telling me they did in fact contain wheat....luckily before I had eaten one. This incident made me very dubious and worried I was going to be throwing up later in the night but I let it slide and ordered the Tandoori prawns for starter and Chicken Bhuna with rice for main. Both dishes were presented nicely and tasted amazing. Other than a few missing naan breads everything was perfect. Overall the night was great in a lovely restaurant with attentive staff and as a bonus it is bring your own booze!!

Food tasted very nice but disappointingly was served luke warm. This is a real shame. Never had this issue before and have had many previous excellent visits. Service was generally good but there was insufficient concern shown that the food was not served hot.
