Met with family for Sunday lunch, the lunch was OK pretty average but before meeting with family I went to the bar and ordered a glass of coke and small glass lager total cost six pound something , I said to the girl serving take one yourself , however she then says I will have this is that OK, having offered to take a drink I wouldn't go back on my word but was flabagasted when hers brought my bill up to £14 this was double my original bill. It taught me never to offer a tip again and I would tell people who visit there to be careful when kindly offering .

So me and my Wife got Married Today and headed over to Rake Hall with our 2 Daughters and her Friend for a Wedding meal with my Father in-law and Mother in-law. My Mother in-law and Father in-law have eaten at Rake Hall a few times now and they really like it, So we arrived and parked up in the decent size car park(3 Disabled spaces right near the Front Door to the Restaurant). What a lovely building, The immaculate lawn, Fish pond, Beer Garden and the exterior of the building are beautiful, So we headed inside as my Mother in-law and Father in-law were already inside waiting for us. A Waitress took us through to the dining room to our table, Lovely Interior, Rustic Charm with modern Dining tables and chairs, Very well decorated and an absolutely beautiful setting, The walls have old photos of Chester and the fixtures and fittings are in keeping with the building. So after several minutes the waiter came and took our drinks orders(Me, My daughter and her friend ordered 3x Pints of Estrella larger, Wife and her Dad shared a bottle of Red Wine 🍷(Merlot), Mother in-law opted for a Gin and Tonic and my other daughter opted for a Pint of Coke with Ice). Drinks were Served in quick time and the pints were ice cold, crisp and a fantastic pint, My Wife and her Dad really liked the Merlot, Mother in-law really enjoyed her Gin and Tonic. For Food We opted for a few Starters Pate on toast with an apricot chutney, King Prawns, Curried Cauliflower Soup with rustic crusty bread etc, Again Food was very well presented, decent portions and delicious. For Mains I ordered the Beer Battered Fish and chips with Mushy Peas and homemade Tartar Sauce, 4 of the group ordered Rump Steak Baguette with a Dijion Mustard Mayonnaise which came with a side of chips, Our Daughters friend opted for The Steak Burger which came with a side salad and Chunky chips. Honestly again the Food was top draw, Very well presented, Tasted absolutely delicious, Generous sized portions, The food went down an absolute treat. Then due to us having our Wedding cake 🎂 with us we cut it and started plating up the Wedding cake for our group and others in the Restaurant who joined in congratulating us. Honestly I completely see why Rake Hall has a fantastic reputation, Well deserved, The Setting, The Grounds, The exterior, The Interior, The Food, The Drinks, The Service are all exquisite. On Google my reviews have over 27,000,000+ Views, If you want a lovely upmarket Pub/Restaurant, With a lovely ambience, Rustic Charm, Fantastic food, Fantastic drink, Fantastic service etc. Book Rake Hall - You Won't be Disappointed. 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆

We've been here several times always booking a table in advance, however as it was a sunny day we decided to try our luck with the outside tables. Firstly disappointed that we could not open a tab because we were sitting outside and apparently lots of untrustworthy people sit outside. No table service because they don't do table service outside, so this meant ordering at the bar and paying in advance, if we wanted another drink then trailing to the bar again in the middle of our meal. Starters were fine, king prawn cocktail and buffalo chicken wings. Decided to order a 9oz rump steak, when it arrives it looked great and was a very thick piece of steak. That's where the pleasure ends. I could barely cut it even with the steak knife provided. I had asked for medium rare, however it was rare and barely warm in the middle. Because this was our wedding anniversary lunch I tried not to complain about it, and soldiered on as I didn't want to make a fuss. I eventually gave up and when the waitress came to collect the plates I said it was really disappointing and I couldn't cut it all never mind eat it. The waitress took it away and I was offered some tickets to get £12 off a main course in our next visit. Based on this experience I'm not sure there will be a next visit. We usually go to Rake Hall as a treat but it didn't feel like a treat, we could have gone to any old pub and had the same probably for less money.

A great pub with helpful, enthusiastic staff and some decent food offerings. Plenty of choice where drinks are concerned and dogs are very welcome, which gives the bar area a nice homely feel. Chewy beef Chewy (over-herbed) potatoes Carrot was black at the end and past its ‘best before date’ Tiny smear of carrot & swede mash, though the waitress brought us more when asked (and we weren’t charged) Over cooked beans & mangetout Our 1st visit. Excellent service by Alexis, did not feel rushed at all. They went out of their way to accomodate by friend and her special diet. We were there gor 4 hours nattering as there was a lovely atmosphere and we felt so comfortable. The only downside were the amount of dogs although we were not sitting near them, if you are frightened of dogs you could be uncomfortable as there was quite a bit of barking. Owners of dogs take note not everyone is comfortable around your pet. The staff handled it very well.

Lovely food but I’m sorry the older gentleman behind the bar is the rudest person I have ever encountered at these kind of pubs. I went to order food for myself and a friend and couldn’t see a table number. When I got to the bar the gentleman asked me for my table number to which I replied I wasn’t sure, I asked if I could tell him what I wanted first and pay (so I could remember the order) and was told very rudely that he would not take my order until I provided a table number. No please or thanks or sorry. When I went to retrieve the table number his response was ‘that wasn’t so painful was it’. I have been in customer facing roles for years and never in my life, even on my bad days did I speak to customers like this. It’s a disgrace and it seems your old boy needs to move with the times and needs some training in order to keep up. Such a shame to have someone like that in such a beautiful setting.

Booked a table a Rake Hall, to start with we were greeted by John who gave us a lovely warm welcome. He said our table was ready, even though we were early. It wasn't an issue getting a drink from the bar first before being seated in the Library room. This is where we were introduced to Lorelle, our waitress. She was also very friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. Our starters and mains were exceptional. We couldn't manage a desert as the meal was so filling. We were then able to retire to the bar area, where we were able to have a couple more drinks, completing a very pleasurable experience. We will definitely return 😀 Michelle and Mike

Steak and mushroom pie looked delicious! Great venue, great food and service. Excellent craft beers. Lunch was awesome the 1st time we visited and I ordered a variety of starters which were all excellent. The 2nd time we visited was for dinner and we had a reservation as they are always fully booked. I had the fish and chips which was mediocre, could be because the kitchen was too busy? We were a table of 8 and half of us weren't entirely blown away. Unfortunately the waiter only checked on us once our meal was finished (I only had half of mine). In future I will go for lunch rather as I found service and quality of meals better.

A credit to the management team. Food and wine was lovely! We had 3 courses- my cheeseboard got devoured by the whole family- winner! Only ONE thing was, half way through our meal we were all ROASTING and couldn't sit in the room we were in any longer. The side room.we were in was hotter than anywhere else in the building and we had to move for our last course. Lovely change of scene outside though with the outdoor heaters and blankets- great touch and we look forward to going back!

Disappointing visit. We visited for Sunday lunch and it was a catalogue of errors from start to finish. To start off, our drinks order was wrong, the barman rectified it straight away and was apologetic which was fine. Our starters arrived, my son's calamari was put down in front of him and slid off the plate all over the table, waitress used her hands to put the food back on the plate. I was a bit shocked but said nothing. Our mains arrived, my roast dinner had stone cold parsnips puree on it and the side of cauliflower cheese that cost £6.25 was inedible. My husband's burger was ok but his chips were soaked in fat as though they had been warned up. I would usually give the venue a chance to rectify this however we didn't get one table check throughout our visit, not even when we paid were we asked if everything was ok. It definitely wasn't worth £98.00. We won't be visiting again and feel this venue let the Brunning and Price chain down.

Stopped in for lunch on Tuesday. 2 people, 2 courses. 2 glasses of Coke which just tasted of soda water. Starters - 1 x Wild Boar & Rabbit Pasty and 1 x Potted Trout With Crab Butter. The Pasty was tiny. It was more of a canope and appeared to be bought in. The trout lacked seasoning, and could've done with being under the pass lights for a minute or 2 to soften the butter, as unfortunately, it was ice cold and with every bite, you end up with a block of butter in your mouth, which is unpleasant. Main Courses - 1 x Venison Pie With Colcannon Mash and 1 x Hake. The Pie itself was delicious. No fault at all. However, the Colcannon Mash was a let down. The Mashed potatoes tasted like they were bought in, rather than made in house. The Hake was barely even lukewarm and didn't taste fresh, I also pulled 6 bones out of it, so it hasn't been prepped properly either and the samphire was stalky, which is a sign it's old. We also ordered a side of onion rings which were simply disintegrated. No waiting staff checked on either course and didn't even ask when clearing the plates. Poor food and poor service from start to finish and relieved of £76 for the displeasure. Would not recommend or return.

Beautiful place. I’ve only been for a hot chocolate with my friend on a girly catchup, but it was lovely, with a small square of very coconuty flapjack. Politw staff, efficient service and beautiful and clean inside. I’d definitely return. :)

Difficult to comment. The food was excellent, very very good. The place was also nice and the staff friendly but I think we were just very unlucky as the food we ordered apparently did not go through the system to the kitchen resulting in us waiting for close to an hour.l to get our food. Going there midday meal, to save us cooking the hour was a little bit far too long. However, the management stepped up and did not charge us the three lime and soda drinks we had while waiting but also took circa 50% of the bill (price of the food we ordered). Must say fair due to them. That they faced their mistake so well. As I said above, the food was very very good, well excellent. Will go again and must recommend to everybody.

Odered the curry and it was horrific. The only to describe is curried water with bit of chicken thrown in, no thickness or consistency at all. I told the guy it was just water and the popadoms were stale and he just said 'oh right' and walked away never to be seen again Won't ever be going back

A friend and I visited last night. The food was delicious. All home made. There is a specials board that last night included Sea Bass, Chicken tikka curry, carbonara and another dish. My friend and I had Chicken Tikka and Scampi &chips. The food was absolutely delicious. Service was brilliant. Lovely blonde haired lady served us. She was super friendly and helpful. The food came quickly. There is a lovely outside seating area and there was a very large grassed area just across the car park. We arrived at 6pm and left by 7.30. The bar was busy, but not overcrowded. Dogs are welcome. Bear in mind that the kitchen closes earlier than you think. I don’t think you could order mains after 7pm, but you could get a desert until 8pm when the kitchen shut. If you’re passing it’s definitely worth a visit.

I originally thought this place was good. Just bought a few items that you can purchase at world market and have been able to for years now. I tried purchasing a coffee and chocolate crepe. I felt like I was inconveniencing the employee just making that simple order from the coffee section. The items were overpriced and I felt like a bother to the few employees that were staffed there. I am all for supporting small businesses but not to the point of feeling like I am bothering them as a customer. Dining in or out of the establishment. I have seen the same or worse prices in Beverly Hills, CA for reference years ago.
