Rake Hall in Cheshire West and Chester

Another excellent afternoon in rake hall, could not fault the staff or food. Staff are very helpful place is full of character, log fires dog friendly 🐕 perfect for a meal or a cosy drink 🍻.

Firstly, girl serving was appalling and needs to go on a course. Really shouldn't be front of house. Coffee in small cup with only an inch of coffee in bottom, rest froth. Love going to Red Fox so was expecting similar at Rake Hall. Extremely disappointed and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Will stick to Red Fox.

Went for a birthday meal last night service and food are excellent. The bacon chop is heaven on a plate and the new crumble on the menu is delicious can't wait to go again xx

Pop in quite regularly this is the place myself and the other half had our first date so the Rake always means something to us and we love to just sit and have a meal or just a pint or even a coffee especially by the fireplace and even better that it's dog friendly.... ❤️💙

Fantastic food served by amazing staff

So me and my Wife got Married Today and headed over to Rake Hall with our 2 Daughters and her Friend for a Wedding meal with my Father in-law and Mother in-law. My Mother in-law and Father in-law have eaten at Rake Hall a few times now and they really like it, So we arrived and parked up in the decent size car park(3 Disabled spaces right near the Front Door to the Restaurant). What a lovely building, The immaculate lawn, Fish pond, Beer Garden and the exterior of the building are beautiful, So we headed inside as my Mother in-law and Father in-law were already inside waiting for us. A Waitress took us through to the dining room to our table, Lovely Interior, Rustic Charm with modern Dining tables and chairs, Very well decorated and an absolutely beautiful setting, The walls have old photos of Chester and the fixtures and fittings are in keeping with the building. So after several minutes the waiter came and took our drinks orders(Me, My daughter and her friend ordered 3x Pints of Estrella larger, Wife and her Dad shared a bottle of Red Wine 🍷(Merlot), Mother in-law opted for a Gin and Tonic and my other daughter opted for a Pint of Coke with Ice). Drinks were Served in quick time and the pints were ice cold, crisp and a fantastic pint, My Wife and her Dad really liked the Merlot, Mother in-law really enjoyed her Gin and Tonic. For Food We opted for a few Starters Pate on toast with an apricot chutney, King Prawns, Curried Cauliflower Soup with rustic crusty bread etc, Again Food was very well presented, decent portions and delicious. For Mains I ordered the Beer Battered Fish and chips with Mushy Peas and homemade Tartar Sauce, 4 of the group ordered Rump Steak Baguette with a Dijion Mustard Mayonnaise which came with a side of chips, Our Daughters friend opted for The Steak Burger which came with a side salad and Chunky chips. Honestly again the Food was top draw, Very well presented, Tasted absolutely delicious, Generous sized portions, The food went down an absolute treat. Then due to us having our Wedding cake 🎂 with us we cut it and started plating up the Wedding cake for our group and others in the Restaurant who joined in congratulating us. Honestly I completely see why Rake Hall has a fantastic reputation, Well deserved, The Setting, The Grounds, The exterior, The Interior, The Food, The Drinks, The Service are all exquisite. This is one of our favourite places to be as it holds fond memories for us. We got married on the premises back in July 2000. This year will be our 25th wedding anniversary and hopefully we'll be able to book a table for us to have an amazing meal and look back on how this venue was the foundation for our happiness on that special day 25 years ago 💖.

Lovely bar and restaurant. Staff very nice and super friendly. We went on NY Eve so was really busy. Still had time for us and our dog.

A great pub with helpful, enthusiastic staff and some decent food offerings. Plenty of choice where drinks are concerned and dogs are very welcome, which gives the bar area a nice homely feel. If you don't want dogs around, there is a restaurant where they're not allowed, so everyone is catered for. All in all, a lovely place to spend the evening.

Had a family gathering here for my wifes birthday. Even though it was really busy, John (Elf-01) was fabulous, very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Great ambience, wonderful food quality and the best place for a celebration! Many thanks to John and The Rake team for making my wifes day special!

It's the staff what makes rake hall special no matter how busy it is they still give brilliant service

Have dined here a few times, usually enjoy the food. Today I had beetroot hummus, which was lovely. I ordered turkey 'with traditional accompaniments', which wasn't that traditional- it had red and green cabbage, a couple of sprouts, plus one car keen on.

Wow some fine dinning experiences are poncy for poncy sake. We don’t like eating out as my wife cooks everything from scratch. However all staff friendly, prices good but the flavour combinations you would never put together but they did and it was refreshingly unreal and a delight. The decor was was lush too. We travelled 2.5 hours to visit the area during a massive storm and this place rescued our much needed weekend.

We didn't have any food yesterday but we have in the past & it was lovely 🙂 Good quality. The pub is close to Cheshire Oaks designer outlet. It's very stylish with a nice outdoor area.

A lovely tender feather of beef. Very tasty. All our plates were eaten clean, I'll visit again and look forward to trying more dishes in the future.

We enjoyed our food, service and ambience very much and will be back soon for more of the same. Thanks very much.

Really nice place to spend time, friendly people, and staff. Always there to help. Dogs really welcome just not allowed in the main restaurant. Food is always excellent,with a wide choice of beverages at the large bar.

Went for a drink there to celebrate 53 years married The staff made us very welcome even though we were only having a couple of drinks John Batemen and Tom Harrison were particularly friendly and came over to speak to us re are wedding anniversary and the history of the Rake. Many summers spent there with the kids back in the 1980's

Overpriced food didn't think much to the Sunday dinner

Amazing, & unusual to have a good range of gluten free options Also, especially to have a good draught English gluten free beer. I'm fed up with most pubs selling only foreign bland bottled fizzy lager, so I usually drink British draught ciders.

Lovely gastro pub, with great amount of gluten free options. Really fresh tasting ingredients and the sticky toffee pudding is to die for!

Staff were very helpful and attentive. The food was delicious and we each had something different. Our 90 year old Mum chose a starter for her main course (small appetite) which was served with our main courses to include her as we were all eating. Great evening had.

Just eaten here for the first time. Only had a steak sandwich and cheese board but it was obvious that the meat was top quality, cooked to perfection. Bread was from a traditional bakery. Cheese board had 6 different cheeses, a caramelised onion relish, plum jelly, rose grapes and a good selection of quality crackers. The staff were superb. Can't recommend this establishment enough.

This is a beautiful restaurant with the most amazing food and brilliant customer service. We've been quite a few times before and they never let us down. Even when there wasa slight issue with one of the dishes tonight they went above and beyond to correct the issue and make sure we had a wonderful meal.

We were a party of 12 including 3 children. We had a child with a nut allergy but he was taken care of before we even sat down. Service was excellent and nothing was to much trouble. (unfortunately I didn't get waitresses name). Food was very good and plenty of outdoor space for children to run around. We will definitely go there again. Thank you Rake Hall staff.

Gorgeous food, beautiful setting and lovely staff. We've been for a celebration meal tonight as I'd just finished 15 months of cancer treatment today. My two daughters mentioned this to staff and they were very kind and generous. Thanks for helping to make it a lovely evening!

Met with family for Sunday lunch, the lunch was OK pretty average but before meeting with family I went to the bar and ordered a glass of coke and small glass lager total cost six pound something , I said to the girl serving take one yourself , however she then says I will have this is that OK, having offered to take a drink I wouldn't go back on my word but was flabagasted when hers brought my bill up to £14 this was double my original bill. It taught me never to offer a tip again and I would tell people who visit there to be careful when kindly offering .

A really nice, welcoming pub. The staff were really friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic. I think the price of our meals was justified by both the amount and quality but I still wouldn't have said it was expensive.

Very busy on wet evening, however staff found us a table and we had delicious main and sweet courses. Very dog friendly. Staff excellent.

We were staying at local caravan and motorhome site and walked to the Rake Hall and had a lovely meal staff very welcoming very dog friendly and we will go again and recommend to any 1

The building and interior are wonderful reminiscent of a stately home, the food was very good with good portions and reasonably priced. Will visit again.

Fantastic food and service, lovely beer garden.

We've been here several times always booking a table in advance, however as it was a sunny day we decided to try our luck with the outside tables. Firstly disappointed that we could not open a tab because we were sitting outside and apparently lots of untrustworthy people sit outside. No table service because they don't do table service outside, so this meant ordering at the bar and paying in advance, if we wanted another drink then trailing to the bar again in the middle of our meal. Starters were fine, king prawn cocktail and buffalo chicken wings. Decided to order a 9oz rump steak, when it arrives it looked great and was a very thick piece of steak. That's where the pleasure ends. I could barely cut it even with the steak knife provided. I had asked for medium rare, however it was rare and barely warm in the middle. Because this was our wedding anniversary lunch I tried not to complain about it, and soldiered on as I didn't want to make a fuss. I eventually gave up and when the waitress came to collect the plates I said it was really disappointing and I couldn't cut it all never mind eat it. The waitress took it away and I was offered some tickets to get £12 off a main course in our next visit. Based on this experience I'm not sure there will be a next visit. We usually go to Rake Hall as a treat but it didn't feel like a treat, we could have gone to any old pub and had the same probably for less money.

I've been here many times here but never had a chance to enjoy the garden. Fortunately, we got the weather and relaxed in the beautiful garden. Really recommend.

Nice food but a weird odd older guy with serious attitude issues was behind the bar - rude and totally disrespectful and a discredit to an otherwise nice pub

What a little gem this place is. Great inside but lovely gardens too. Food was great and the welcome and service was first class.

A very warm & welcoming environment. Delicious food with the added benefit for us of the majority of the menu being gluten free. My husband has recently been diagnosed as coeliac so eating out somewhere that carers for this dietary requirement is sometimes difficult but not at The Rake.

Disappointing Sunday roast. Chewy beef Chewy (over-herbed) potatoes Carrot was black at the end and past its ‘best before date’ Tiny smear of carrot & swede mash, though the waitress brought us more when asked (and we weren’t charged) Over cooked beans & mangetout Our 1st visit. We usually go to the sister pub, The Red Fox. Sadly nowhere near as good as the food at The Red Fox. Disappointing.

Our party enjoyed a really good meal, if not slightly over priced. The prices for the mains themselves were actually OK, but the dessert was £9 per item and this felt a bit on the steep side. The service was really good and even on a busy night the food came out in good time and was hot

It's a Brunning & Price pub so there's a level of expectation here, and the place doesn't disappoint. Lovely garden space, nice atmosphere, very pleasant staff, well decorated, clean & smart. Food is good, as you'd expect from B&P although when busy can be a touch on the cold side, make sure yours is hot on arrival. Highly recommended, by far the nicest pub close to Cheshire Oaks.

Excellent service by Alexis, did not feel rushed at all. They went out of their way to accomodate by friend and her special diet. We were there gor 4 hours nattering as there was a lovely atmosphere and we felt so comfortable. The only downside were the amount of dogs although we were not sitting near them, if you are frightened of dogs you could be uncomfortable as there was quite a bit of barking. Owners of dogs take note not everyone is comfortable around your pet. The staff handled it very well.

Not visited in a few years, now under new ownership. Decor smart, good choice of drinks, food great prices in tandem with good food. Recommend a visit.

Food wasn't the best. Part cold, part overcooked. Dealt with well by the front of house staff but food let it down

I do find choices limited. Only fish dish is fish & chips. How about salmon or sea bass? Like crispy beef salad but too hot for me, maybe do a milder version? Fish cakes used to be a favourite of mine but not there. Ordered orange gin & tonic but wasn't asked about my choice. I sent it back as I didn't like the taste and I got the one I usually drink. Service was fine.

Just enjoyed a wonderful roast here, absolutely beautiful! Staff are very welcoming and attentive. Very reassured eating here as a Coeliac, fantastic gluten free options and staff spoke to me before I ate showing excellent knowledge and awareness. Will definitely be coming here again!

Brilliant service lovely staff and best pub food I've had

Am a regular at Rake Hall usually once or twice a month and the food and service never fail to deliver. Everyone of the team are friendly, will make a point of saying hello if they recognise us. Highly recommend.

Dom was front of house and Megan was our waitress, both were fantastic. We have eaten here four times now but just looked at some of the reviews and i thought they were talking about another place as it definitely was not our experience. We recommended rake hall to our friends and they loved it. The food was excellent and service was superb. Will be going soon.

Lovely food but I’m sorry the older gentleman behind the bar is the rudest person I have ever encountered at these kind of pubs. I went to order food for myself and a friend and couldn’t see a table number. When I got to the bar the gentleman asked me for my table number to which I replied I wasn’t sure, I asked if I could tell him what I wanted first and pay (so I could remember the order) and was told very rudely that he would not take my order until I provided a table number. No please or thanks or sorry. When I went to retrieve the table number his response was ‘that wasn’t so painful was it’. I have been in customer facing roles for years and never in my life, even on my bad days did I speak to customers like this. It’s a disgrace and it seems your old boy needs to move with the times and needs some training in order to keep up. Such a shame to have someone like that in such a beautiful setting.

Very nice country pub, great food, very helpful staff, and a huge garden with loads of space for kids to play.

Booked a table a Rake Hall, to start with we were greeted by John who gave us a lovely warm welcome. He said our table was ready, even though we were early. It wasn't an issue getting a drink from the bar first before being seated in the Library room. This is where we were introduced to Lorelle, our waitress. She was also very friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. Our starters and mains were exceptional. We couldn't manage a desert as the meal was so filling. We were then able to retire to the bar area, where we were able to have a couple more drinks, completing a very pleasurable experience. We will definitely return 😀 Michelle and Mike

Great food plenty of choice very relaxing

Nice place, plenty of parking. Went for a Sunday roast. I like dog friendly pubs but would prefer to be asked if I want to sit in an area with other people's dogs present. Dinner was fine but i found for an average dinner it was a tad overpriced, especially when you add sides to the meal. Desert although tasty was again average and a bit small. All in all a nice place to visit once and a while but for me , a tad overpriced.

The food was unreal! I got the pork ribeye which was cooked perfectly and the sides all full of flavour and complimented each other well. Will definitely be returning, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.
