Raj Mahal in Broxbourne

I’m afraid I can’t give any stars to this restaurant as we never received our order !! Placed a order for delivery at 6.30 was told a 30-45 min delivery time , after 1 hour food hadn’t arrived so phoned to see if it was on its way , was told after a lengthy silence and a lot of chatting in background that they were waiting for a driver , they then said it will be with you in ten mins . After a wait of another 20 minutes I called back to then be told that the driver was old and he was lost !! Absolute joke , surely he had a sat nav . They didn’t know what to say , to which we cancelled the order , no apology ! ( wouldn’t let me post unless I put 1 star )

Been visiting this restaurant for 40 years, so it seemed like an obvious choice for my son's 18th birthday family meal. We were a Yankee of 10 and we had the Raj Table Chicken for 4, and the Lamb for 4 which worked perfectly. Wow, the food was incredible, the gravy that accompanied the succulent meat was to die for. Starters, sides, rice or naan, all included which was perfect, I just had to order a couple of extra bits for the two smaller guests. Service was brilliant, very attentive and really helped make the whole thing feel very special. Thank you Raj Mahal.

Moved to this area recently. Food is always good, portion is good, also I like the curry not too much oil also the dish I ordered not much red colouring in the chicken which I like.

Service slow and drawn out with errors in order. More importantly, quality of food poor. Has special mixed grill - exceptionally dry and 'old' - overcooked and not fit for purpose. Avoid this dish at all costs

My husband and I use this restaurant for a takeaway every week. We have noticed over the last few months that the food has really gone down hill. So much so that we will be looking for another restaurant to get our takeaway. Chicken very dry, sag aloo tastes old, just a real let down

One of the best Indian restaurants in the area have been twice and the food and the service was excellent will be back again in the new year

The food is fabulous, but..!! I ordered a delivery and was left waiting for 1hr 20mins, had to microwave the curry too as it was luke warm, I will dine in nxt time to see the difference..

If we want to go for an Indian, out of all the local ones we always come here,no1reason is that the food is always consistent and the staff are always friendly. Prices are very reasonable too , if your looking for good food ,sometimes the wait might be abit long but would say it is worth it plus also as with any eating establishment depends on the time you go. Would definitely recommend.

Sadly although the food was nice the service wasnt up to the same standard. Waited other 45 mins before getting our starters and for some reason they came with our mains so they got cold. Asked to take home the left overs and was charged an extra pound.

Made an online order - called as order didn’t show and turns out their online ordering system shouldn’t actually be “live” yet, even though we received an email confirmation. We were just hung up on without even being asked about sorting the issue or even a simple goodbye. Really rude person on the phone.

My review from 5 years ago : Really good Indian restaurant, would recommend it. My review now: we used to love this restaurant. The food was good, the owner was lovely and the service was on point. We started seeing the service going down, becoming increasingly slow over the pastfew years. We went there again tonight. We waited 1 hour to place our order ( we asked 3 times to place our order) and 2 hours to be served our food!! We only stayed because we were celebrating our daughter's good school report and she asked to come to this restaurant. We were not the only ones complaining about the very poor service. Whilst they apologised, they offered us 1 beer (£4.50) for the inconvenience. What a gesture!! I dont drink, we were with our kids, it was late. It was very poor judgement, one that will cost them long term customers. We will not come back.

Great Indian restaurant in Hoddesdon been there since the 80s and still the same owners.

Takeaway. Food wasn't as hot as I thought it should be heat wise not spicy hot wise, but was very nice hence the 5 stars. Would go back. Was busy inside restaurant

Our favourite Indian take away, lovers of Indian food in our house and wouldnt go anywhere else, every order is exactly to our liking… quality, flavour and highly recommend! Chicken Tikka Balti - Madrass hot if you like heat like me :)

Nice food in a typical UK Indian restaurant atmosphere. Went again in sept 2022 and its still very nice, food and atmosphere.

We eat indian food quite a lot, and this is our go-to restaurant. We have been going here regularly for 30 years now, and its rare that you get a bad one. Every so often you get a different chef, which has a different flavour, but still enjoyable.

Having normally enjoyed the food at the Raj for the past 14 years, I've always liked their tikka massala, however my latest visit made me unwell and only had lamb tikka massala, that was different dish from my guest diners, and they were OK. So put it down to luck of the draw however I won't be going back anytime soon which is a shame.

Service was a bit slow despite us being the only customers in the restaurant! Food ok. We also had to ask waiter to wear his mask when serving us (it was under his chin), and not following Covid recommendations in place at this time.

Beautiful meal at the Raj Mahal. I've never been a big fan of Indian food and it's taken my wife twenty years to get me to take her out for an Indian. Now I'm wishing I went sooner. The staff couldn't be more friendly and my lamb bhuna was packed full of big chunks of delicious meat. I'm a convert now and it won't be long before I'm back.

Excellent food and good service

First time visit. Tandoori Chicken, dhal, rice, naans all freshly cooked and tasty. Nicely set table and decor. Service was very good. Definitely will go again and try something hotter next time.

My dad and mum went to the Taj Mahal Indian restaurant and we rode on Sunday, the 12th of February they ordered food my dad’s food was fine my mum ordered a breast of Tandoori chicken then he gave her an egg she told him that she ordered the bread he took it away and then returned the same leg and he said chicken was chicken he got the table through all the food on the table upside down got my The plate hit my dad‘s and his nose started to bleed my mumThrew her on the floor and threw a drink on her then he ran to the kitchen and got a weapon with a handle would spikes on it he told my dad to run his staff how to hold back him from hitting my dad with the weapon my dad called the police several police came search the premises for the webbing they couldn’t find it and my dad told him to look at the CCTV he told the police he didn’t have won the police are coming on Tuesday to take From my dad

Have been eating here for a long time. Really great food. From speaking to staff, I know their food is freshly prepared daily. None of that pre-prepared stuff, so there might be a slightly longer wait but definitely worth it in the end. Would highly recommend the Dhansak or the Nawabi Balti. Very traditional restaurant, with a modern look. No gimmicks here, just good food.

Great tasting food. Great blend of spices without being too hot. Great service. JAN 2021 Collected another takeaway. Absolutely fantastic - thoroughly recommend the Saag Aloo , Chicken Razala and Badani Lamb Shank. This is the best Indian meal we have ever had. It was enough for four people or two meals for a couple.

This is one of the finest Indian cousine in Hoddesdon with over 100 seating area with calming and relaxing inside atmosphere. Established for over 40 years by the current owner and still being managed by the same family by their second generation. Takeaway and delivery services are also available. Delivery post codes covered are EN11, EN10, EN9 SG12 and SG13. Their services are excellent, choice and taste of food is great. Bar is wonderful and they truly and genuinely look after their customer needs. Their prices are very competitive and food quality is excellent. If you have not tried them, try them and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Top class food in the restaurant or for take away.

Booked a table. Turned up in time. Told to wait outside in the cold. Forgotten about. Gave all their tables away. Whispered to eachother at the bar that they couldn't fit us in. Won't be coming here again, and certainly wouldn't recommend.

Ordered a takeaway from here. Definitely the best Indian Ive had so far. Will be returning. The tikka was delicious and poppadoms lovely and fresh

We visited the Raj Mahal on Monday 31st and I was immediately disappointed at the number of active tables in the restaurant at this time of social distancing and precautions etc. There were literally a few inches between tables. The staff wore masks, some under their nose though not sure how that will help... The food was nice and service was good but I wouldn't be keen to return while they aren't observing best practice. Yes we should have walked out but we'd been looking forward to celebrating my new job at this restaurant.

I use The Raj Mahal regularly for take away and eating in. Last night I went for a family meal and not only was the service not great with the waiter near on throwing the cutlery on to the table, the food left a lot to be desired too. The starters were acceptable although portion size has diminished drastically. Main courses were pretty tasteless, the Sheek kebab had a strange taste which was not usual and not enjoyable. The Chicken in all dishes was chewy, I left a fair bit of mine as it also appeared to be pink, possibly down to food colouring but I feel that it was undercooked. All of us have suffered with bad stomachs this morning. Won't be using anymore!

This restaurant is now doing takeaways only. Previous two visits food was fine last night terrible binned most of it. Burnt chicken fat and gristle hardly any filling in the nan breads and just about warm. These people think you don’t notice when the food is not to standard unfortunately for them forty years experience means I know good from bad. They all do it good for a while then cut corners. They don’t deserve regular customers. I will spend my money elsewhere next time.

The food is always of a high quality and we are never afraid to try new things off the menu. We visit just as a couple, or to bring the children and we bring our house guests here as a treat too.

Yet again, the 30 mile round trip was well worthwhile.. really great food.. good beer, great service.. This restaurant really is our favourite.. from takeaways to celebration meals I can’t recommend it enough.. we are currently booking our return trip!

I come here quite a bit but I usually have take away and this time we sat in side , we went around six on a Monday so wasn’t busy at all , the food was all very good , but the tandoori mixed grill was removed from the sizzling plate ? Never have I had it served like that before and the older man that worked here was constantly hovering over our table and moving the stuff at the end of our table , it made us feel really uncomfortable , when it came to paying the bill we paid and he just assumed we didn’t want our change and kept it without asking before doing so , if they would have asked I would have have said keep it but at least ask before assuming so

A nice restaurant, food is very good and the menu is second to none. The staff were very nice and helpful if you weren't sure of something on the menu. The only slight let down was the price, a little more expensive than other's in the area.

We have been here regularly for last 20 years but unfortunately over last few years with changes of chefs etc the standard of food has really gone downhill. The dhansak tasted burnt and the tikka masala chicken tasted rubbery (no pun!)Such a shame as it had built up a reputation as the best in Hoddesdon but now below average. I hope they gets better chef in future as the meals aren’t cheap (or the drinks) so for the money would expect better than hit or miss meals. With such a lot of choice of Indian restaurants in the area, they need to up their game to be a contender in a tough market

Been coming here for 40 years and worse meal and service! Group of 11 at 7pm waiting 2hours to get food. I don’t eat meat so was horrified to see my prawns on the same serving dish as chicken ticker. It was cold and greasy. Samosas were raw and Bombay allo was greasy mash!The staff are really good but they accepted too many takeaway meals over diners. Sadly won’t return ☹️

We use this restaurant quite a bit but every now and then it lets itself down. Ordered a takeaway arrived at the time specified and waited for half an hour. Got it back and found quite a few items that were wrong and the food was only just about warm. Two Dansacks that looked totally Different and tasted different. This morning three adults and two children running to the loo constantly. I am now informing the local health department to take a look at this restaurant as this has happened a few times both eating in and eating out. Will not be going there again. If you use it you will probably get a good meal but then the lottery is you will also get a bad one and pay for it.

Booked a takeaway 45 minutes prior to picking it up at the agreed time of 7.15pm. However the restaurant was very busy on the Saturday night both sit down and about 15 people waiting for their food. As I entered the staff asked my name and told me the price and how much to pay. I paid in good faith believing my food would be out soon. I have no problem if they were realistic with the time and if I knew it would be that long,I would have gone somewhere else. Many other people were waiting similar times. They did not even apologise or refund some of the cost.They probably don’t need my custom,however I will not be visiting that restaurant anymore as I have done on many occasions before

There are better in Hoddesdon found this restaurant a bit hit and miss. Food is sometimes totally Different to the last visit and has been lukewarm at best.

Had a lovely meal at this restaurant with my wife. The chicken tikka dhansak was fantastic, as were all the meals. Highly recommended. Service was great too

I love this restaurant. The food is always consistent and the service good. Very tasty and not oily. The only item they should improve on the menu is the quarter tandoori chicken starter. last time we visited was rather dry & overcooked but tasted delicious.

The title says it all, my only choice when I go for an Indian. Look no further! The service is always brilliant and the dishes are incredible.

I liked its location - nearby the hotel I stayed in. Food - very tasty. I asked the waiter for a selection of their dishes and I was happily offered quite a choice. The only minor comment is that the waiters were a little bit too intrusive (as for my taste), asking too often if everything was alright. All in all - great place to eat. Will come back.

Was filling up my car at the BP next door to the restaurant when I smelt a gust from heaven which congested my nostrils with aroma. I followed the smell and it led me to this restaurant. Now every Indian I have I automatically compare it to Raj mahal, highly recommend the chicken tikka masala.

Always great food every time me and my partner to. Friendly staff, clean restaurant and generally a comfortable and warm atmosphere. We travel from Waltham Cross to go to this particular one but highly recommend anyone to try it here!
