Went here tonight 15/3/25 looked at mixed reviews so wasn't sure but glad to say food was delicious lot tastier then when i ordered from.a takeawayservice was great even though we were at the back of the restaurant you can also order and collect but shame no delivery would go again

Waited over an hour for mains. What was worse was when we ordered a set menu for 3 people which is labelled “£24.50 for 3 persons” but they didn’t mention it was £24.50 PER PERSON. Not written in the menu as I have photo of menu and not mentioned when ordering. I felt ripped off

Been a while since my last visit but didn't disappoint. Very reasonable prices and great portions and food quality. (Way better than recent visit to the ruby which overcharged for tiny portions) Going back to rainbow palace for family birthday meal. Recommended.

Went on Thursday night with friends. Restaurant was full, as always, but the service and quality of food was excellent. It can be a bit noisy, but last night was a lovely atmosphere and we could talk normally.. 3 course meal with a bottle of wine & beer @ £25 each ( considering the high quality of the food) has to be the best value around this area.

We went as a family of 8. We were sat in a dingy verandah. They had no draught beer at all. You could see to read the menu let alone talk to people at the other end of the table. The prawn crackers were stale to say the least. The young serving were absolutely clueless. Brought out good before they had lit the food warmers. The food was served on cold plates. The food was poor. Fillet stake. My shoe leather was better. The girls didn’t clear empty drinks from the table and stood about chatting. Never going there again. Avoid like the plague. Over rated rubbish!!!

I had previously been to the Rainbow Palace a number of times, the food was still great but i felt the way we were treated left alot to be desired. I had to ask 3 times for prawn crackers which are usually given straight away. When we received our food no usual dishes were given just the side plates which were already on the table. I noticed staff looking at us which made me feel uncomfortable. When we asked for the bill, the bill was put on the table, no fortune cookies which we noticed were given out to other tables but not to us. I am honestly not sure why we were not treated like the other customers and what usually happens when we visited before but it spoilt the meal and we have made the decision not to go there again or to recommend it to others which we have done previously.

Service was really slow half our drinks came we had to ask 3 times for the other drinks. Only 1 member of staff was professional the others were very miserable

We went here with our family for the early bird menu which is now £15.50 Parking is difficult as the car park is small. Easy to book online. Received a nice welcome and the menu has been reduced to what it was but still a good selection. We received prawn crackers free and our food arrived quickly , hot and well presented. Really good value for the money.

Thought we would give this place ago as we hadn’t been in for a good 5 years, well all I can say is it’s got worse. Still shoved in like sardines in a can, food was bang average, service was ok. The fun bit was the bill, £15.50 per head for food x 4 people £62.00 that’s not bad.we did order 2 extra portions of chips but they never came and we didn’t get charged for them. Now the best bit, £36 for drinks!!!! We had in total 2 glasses of wine (£5.50 each) 2 large Pepsi (only one price in the menu £2.50 each) then 2 large apple juice and 1 large apple juice with lemonade, neither of these drinks in the drinks menu but after deducting the other drinks from the £36 charged leaves £20 for those 3 drinks???? Obviously I questioned this, I was told the large apple juice is £5!!!! You want, £5 for a large glass of TESCO apple juice!! What a joke. Well all I’m saying is, if you come here it’s worth having I think your drinking choices rather than having a shock at the end as the price of drinks isn’t what’s in the menu and also massively inflated Tesco own brand Apple juice.

Just had another great take away from The Palace … the fillet steak in pepper 🫑 sauce was epic 🙏👊👍🥰

Second visit a week ago...totally disorganised..too many people not enough staff!.so the wait was quite long ...my vegetarian main had little to no taste and partners chicken curry was like chicken soup.....starters were ok....but would not recommend...there are alot better Chinese restaurants...I would not recommend.

A lovely Chinese that you can have a set menu before 8pm or a la carte anytime from 5pm. The new price was £15.50 which gives you A choice of Starters from which you select 2 per person - I love the yuk sung Nd pop corn chicken A main with jasmine rice - I love the satay chicken or chicken curry Ice-cream or coffee Quite large room with sections so has a nice atmosphere. It's the Third time iv been here with my family, always enjoy the Atmosphere Unfortunately the staff have completely run off their feet. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time to order food.. It seemed like we were forgotten about .

We were at a 70th birthday here on Saturday evening. The food was absolutely delicious and all the waitresses were very friendly. Overall a lovely atmosphere and very relaxed. Will definitely return.

Booked same day for an evening meal and what an excellent evening we had Service was great, friendly, attentive staff Great atmosphere, surprisingly busy for a Wednesday evening. Food was definitely the star of the show Best sizzling Szechuan beef I’ve had in years, maybe ever… Really excellent food off the early bird menu, lots of choice and great value, even enough to take a doggie bag out for another meal at home Don’t miss the filo king prawn starter or the ribs.. we will definitely be back

Fair few tables Fairly good place to eat good food large portions,well presented. Car park a little small . Service fairly quick. Only minor thing I would say is when it comes to pay have to work it out on bits of paper and have to go to the entrance. So gets a bit jammed up and takes a while. Could do with modernization of orders so entered on till off notepad so just need to print bill for tables. But all in all really good 👍👍 Staff friendly and helpful Thumbs up from me and my family/friends

Food is really really good but the service and atmosphere let them down… drinks took ages every time we ordered them and so overpriced… £4 for a TAP coke!!! the girls are nice but doesn’t seem to be any management as we had more than a 40 min wait between our 1st starter and 2nd starter… which would be annoying but much worse as we were a table of 4 where only 2 of us had the second starter… so they had over a 90 min wait between their starter and main! Once the food arrives it’s great but I don’t think we’ll be back anytime soon, shame as this had been a family favourite for years

Service has gone downhill. Way too slow. I won't be coming back...Food is still great and good value tho...

Food is lovely, however we’ve now been waiting over an hour between courses… Due to no one serving having being specified a table or area once seated if you don’t call for attention you get forgotten… And if seated at the back you’re done for as all servers are at the front of the restaurant and the back in a separate room. They have a bar in there nobody ‘manning’ the bar so it took 45 minutes and several reminders for a jug of water… the girls are nice but poor / no management.

Went with family on Sunday 30th June there were about 30 of us. Service was impeccable drinks were served, orders taken and a relative short time served. The waitresses were very efficient, all our party being served within 30 mins

Great atmosphere and even better food

Went out for a family meal last night, the girls that worked the conservatory which were amy, teigan and ruby(we asked for their names) they were phenomenal and worked really hard, they went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. However when I walked through the main restaurant the woman who looked asif she was the manager was trying to pull apart a table and dropped two wine glasses on the floor I kindly picked them up and had no acknowledgement for helping her. Also walking past the bar on my way to the toilet i could hear a bell being slammed and foul language being shouted towards the girls, which is disgraceful considering how young the girls are that work there. I would definitely go back again due to the girls who served us and took the time to be as helpful as possible considering how busy they were and they are the only reason for the 4 stars. The management definitely needs to be sorted out.

Our Mains Were nice but starters unfortunately cold staff were clearly rushed off their feet and didn’t have time to stop and so we had to wait a long time for the bill, the management need to do better for their staff the 3* is because they charged me £8.50 for “chicken nuggets” for my son which weren’t even close to chicken nuggets they were the thinnest pieces of chicken possible fried in batter…

Never again. The writing was on the wall when we got there that a customer who’d order a bottle of Prosecco had to come to the bar and fetch it himself. We were a party of 8 we ordered 2 bottles of wine as soon as we got there. We reminded them twice, at least they came before the last of our party arrived. Ordered the half of duck with pancakes, no hosin sauce, 5 times we asked for the sauce. Finally came the duck was cold the sauce was not enough for the size of the duck. Forgot one of our starters. Waitresses serving you with long false nails, not hygienic. Didn’t bother with the free ice cream or coffee, we feared we’d be there all night. For a meal over £200 I expect better service.

Always a lovely meal at the Rainbow Palace. Early saver menu is excellent value. Hihhly recommend.

Take out. Very quick service matched by the quickly put together food. Full of salt. Curry was made of powder, still containing lumps of powder. No flavour. Certainly lost its spark for me and my guests.

Food isn't to everyone's taste but the waitresses work hard to please. It has to be said that the noise level is horrendous....too many tables crammed together

Very disappointing as this place used to be good. Wasn't greeted on arrival as the young staff were dealing with chaotic telephone delivery orders. Had to wait ages to be acknowledged and for each service having to repeatedly ask. Our table area was filthy, with loads of food mashed into the carpet and up the walls. Food itself wasn't great and probably no better than a frozen Iceland meal. Saw other costomers complaining, but staff didnt appear bothered. Will definitely not be returning and would not recommend.

Always had good food here but sorry to say service last Saturday was terrible.Waited ages for starters then had to ask for mains about an hour late r didn't bring noodles we asked for and didn't bring them when we asked for them Nor the second round of drinks can understand it was busy and 1 waitress was very apologetic .Think the other one need a few more training sessions Hope it's better next time

3 ladies for dinner. When we were eventually able to order - as they had forgotten us, as we “was not on the sheet” even though we had booked prior, Two ordered off set menu one off the main menu. One off main menu ordered pork chop salt and pepper style. When it came it was chunks of “pork” and it tasted and looked just like the spicy popcorn chicken we had just had for starters off the set menu. We asked the waitress if this was the correct meal as we had ordered a pork chop, and she took it away and then the food came back with the chef, who dumped the plate back down in front of us and said “this is pork” and went to walk away, we said “hang on though we ordered a pork chop-surely it should be one piece” To which he replied “this is how we do it here, I can take it off bill if you don’t want it” very aggressively, so we replied “yes please I don’t want to eat this now” so he proceeded to grab the plate back up and as he turned to storm off, he slammed the plate on the empty table next to us which caused an empty bottle of beer that had been left by the previous guests to fall over and land on a plate, causing a very loud noise which caused the whole restaurant to go quiet and stare at us. When the waitress eventually came back over to clear the rest of our stuff we said we weren’t happy with the way the chef had spoken to us and left the table to which she replied “I’m sorry I can’t do anything he is my manager” Shocking behaviour from the manager no customer service at all.

Had the menu for 2 people. We received food suitable for 5 people. Excellent quality and the service by the female staff was as good as it gets. If you want to run a business that is virtually full at 6pm on a cold Tuesday night then visit this restaurant,they will show you how to do it.

Incredible value and excellent food. We've been several times now and are always blown away by the quality of the food and the value for money when doing the set menu. Service is always very good as well so highly recommended

A little gem of a place tucked away. Very unassuming both outside and in, but once you're sat down and start eating, my word it's so tasty! Loved the spare ribs starter and the mixed chow mein was really tasty.

Been here so many times and loved it, so we booked a table for 12 of us to celebrate my parents 40th wedding anniversary. Everything started off really well, we were seated, ordered drinks and the food order was taken. About 5 minutes after our drinks arrived came a waitress asking to take our food order again as it had been taken wrong, not a problem and we made the order again. Starters arrived with no issues, food temperature and quality was fab. Then it was time for the mains to arrive…. All food was brought out baring a beef curry, I asked for it and was told I’m sorry I will chase that up, no curry came. I then asked again as the waitress served the table behind us, she looked confused and still no curry. I went to the bar to order a drink and spoke to the “front of house manager” who believes yelling at her staff in front of customers is the correct way to behave! I was apologised too and told my meal would be removed from the bill, that’s fine thank you. I then returned to the table and had started eating my meal, when a sheepish waitress appeared behind me saying I’m sorry but we can’t take the curry off for you? At this point I am just shocked as to where this had come from? She explained it didn’t work like that and they couldn’t do it. I explained everything that had happened and she was unable to answer or help me, so I asked her for manager. Then the “BOSS” arrived, probably the rudest man I’ve ever had deal with a complaint, he told me they would take it off our bill but it would come out of the waitresses wage for the night. We were just flabbergasted that he thought this was acceptable to punish a waitress by removing the price of a meal from her hourly minimum wage? Surely this is against the law, we told him to forget it and not remove it from the bill as we didn’t want this waitress (on her first shift by the way) to suffer. He rudely said life’s not fair is it! Then stormed off and it had been taken off the bill. We made sure this waitress has £10 put in her hand for her to keep, even though she was petrified and no doubt would have to hand it over at the find of the night. My brother took care of the bill and the front of house manager didn’t take off our deposit and charged my brother more than she should of done. I mean a manager/owner who is rude and a front of house who doesn’t even take a deposit off a bill. Absolutely appalling service and we will not return or hold back in telling others our opinion! If your going to hire young workers then you should at least train them up to a standard where they are comfortable to do the job your expecting

Amazing food &very accomadating staff.

We have visited here on many occasions over many years and have always enjoyed the food and service. We have had many wonderful birthdays and other special occasions here and is one of our favourite places to visit. Look forward to seeing you soon

We ate here today (13 jan 24 ) This was the first time we had been here. We were a little sceptical after reading the previous review this month. However the food and the quality of service was second to none . The restaurant was very busy , so that speaks for itself . Will definitely return. I speak as I find , so my advice is ignore the negative reviews .

We have been here several times over the past two years, and the experience has been generally OK. The food is consistently good so, a few weeks ago, we recommended it to our neighbours, whom we accompanied here for an evening meal. On that occasion, despite the usual great food, the service was SO poor, we were embarrassed by our recommendation to our neighbours... So, tonight, we ventured back as a lone couple, willing to give the Rainbow Palace a second chance, as there are so few "eat-in" Chinese restaurants in our area. Once again, apart from the good food, were were once again disappointed by our experience, but this time it was TRULY AWFUL... Drinks arrived on time, and food was hot. After that, service turned to rat-s***: we were offered extra prawn crackers. After half an hour, they hadn't arrived, but not really a big deal.... However, what really pissed me off was the ignorance of the staff. After we finished our mains, we waited for half an hour, expecting out table to be cleared, so we could move on and enjoy our dessert and coffee. NO CHANCE! On every single opportunity that we tried to attract the attention of the waiting staff, they completely ignored us, whizzing straight by us with NO eye contact or acknowledgement whatsoever... Eventually, we put on our coats and stood up (usually a good signal to the staff that we were ready to leave...), but again to NO avail... We proceeded to the bar to settle the bill, where I explained that the service was poor that we didn't receive our prawn crackers, desserts or coffees (let alone the fortune cookies!!). They quickly calculated the total, and I was presented with a non-itemised bill, which I did not contest as I was keen to leave this unwelcoming and embarrassing environment. We have dined in Michelin starred restaurants in the UK, and this shower of sheet* would not even meet 1% of the qualifying mark for that standard, mostly due to the puss*-poor management and, therefore, the consequent abysmal service... The young and inexperienced staff of the Rainbow Palace, as honest as they are, sadly lack training and leadership - really badly! . This shambles of a restaurant would greatly benefit from a front of house specialist, but this is very sadly lacking... I'm sorry to say that, as things stand, we, or any of my friends or neighbours, will NOT be returning. Please note that (*) asterisk represents so-called "words" that TripAdvisor will not accept...

Great food is great and always a great atmosphere. A favourite of mine. Only one issue which really surprised me - the food was served on cold plates - not slightly warm, as they should be and there's only space for 2 dishes on the table warmers

Set meal is good value for money and the service was very good. It was really cold in the restaurant and there was no heating on. I had to wrap my coat around my legs. Been going for years and never had a bad meal, hence we keep going back. However the place really needs updating, it is looking very shabby and the ladies loos are very bad, tatty, untidy and not too clean either.

Food fantastic as always . Always looked after . Need I say more.

12 of us had a wide variety of dishes. Mine was crispy duck, prawn sesame toast , followed by king prawn sizzle dish with garlic and ginger and stir fried bamboo shoots. I have eaten here several times and I think this was the best choice I have made. Must try and remember for next time

Went for the set men of £13.50 which is still brilliant value! The food was lovely although the pork was quite dry. The atmosphere here used to always be inviting and warm, however on our visit is was TOO warm (as in the heater was on and it was already warm in the dining area. Secondly the staff were rude. None of them seemed to be happy to be where they were, food was basically just dropped on the table, and their faces showed they really couldn’t be arsed. I’m hoping this was a one off but other diners said the same as we were leaving.

This was the first occasion that my family had visited these premises to enjoy an evening meal. However there was no initial warm welcome by the staff and were directed to our table where we ordered our meal and drinks. The food was excellent and presented well but it was truly noticeable that the staff were not happy to be serving you and they never asked anyone of five of us in the party if the food supplied was alright and appeared to ignore our table for further drinks etc. We had to ask for our bill numerous times and had to wait a while before it was presented to us to pay. Such was our concern by the staffs behaviour we asked to speak to the manager to give them feedback so that the staff could have training in customer service but were informed that there was no manager on duty that evening. Even on our way out the staff ignored us instead of thanking us for our custom which is a pity, as you don't get a second chance to make a first impression and as a result will certainly lose our future custom.

Can't fault the food at all. I would say it's the best Chinese round here, I think the service could be a bit better they can be a bit slow when ordering your drinks.

An amazing place. Used to go there a lot with my parents before they passed. The staff are good and the food is amazing.

Table was nicely laid out, and the staff were friendly, they do a good set menu, and that's what we went for, starters were a little small,but the mains were very nice and plentiful, what spoilt the night was, as the desserts were served, we were also given the bill,and told that they needed the table in 15 minutes so instead of finishing the night with a coffee and a catch up, we had to eat and pay, then move on,pity.

My go to Chinese. Simply the best.

Attended here with a big group for a birthday, so first of all we was put in the back room which I liked due to having a few children with us so it was more private but.. ( I think they forgot about us most of the time). We had to keep going up the front of the restaurant to tell them we was ready to order drinks, then someone went down to let them know we was ready to order food to, we basically didn’t have table service. Once we received our food this was the best part of the night as the food was so nice! They should have put a member of staff to attend the courtyard bar as they only took one drink order the whole time us being there. Which would obviously mean the business would be having a loss of revenue.

Got to be honest we were disappointed. Got there for 7pm and left at 9.30pm. The service was really slow, the staff working looked miserable and uninterested. Twice we had to find out if we’d been forgotten about. We were seated in the conservatory with the heating on & a fan heater on full. We were melting & turned it off ourselves. Food was decent so credit where credits due. We won’t be rushing back.

Got there at opening time. Plenty of car parking spaces. There was a special early option menu with plenty of choice and not to expensive either. Have been before and it's my first choice restaurant.

We had the set menu which was good value for money . The food was tasty .Great customer service and added bonus of a fortune cookie at the end of the meal.

A return visit after a number of years. Food was good, but service was very slow due to it being very busy. It was difficult to have a conversation as it was very noisy. Once folks began to leave we were able to talk to each other without shouting across the table.

Food is always quick, fresh and amazingly tasty from several visits to rainbow palace, and the set meal deal is brilliant value for money. Unfortunately however twice now I have been seated in the rear conservatory which does not appear to receive the same attention as when I have been seated in the main restaurant. Service is very slow, and unmotivated.

I recently ordered takeout from Rainbow Palace, a Chinese restaurant located in town. Instead of having the food delivered, we decided to collect it ourselves from the restaurant. The staff at Rainbow Palace were friendly and welcoming upon our arrival, and we were impressed with the cleanliness and overall ambiance of the restaurant. We placed our order at the counter and were given a rough estimate of how long it would take to prepare. The wait time was reasonable and the food was freshly prepared upon our arrival. We were pleased with the quality of the food, as it was flavorful and delicious. The portions were generous, and we had enough for leftovers the following day. One thing that stood out to us was the attention to detail in the presentation of the food. Each dish was carefully arranged and looked visually appealing, making the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, our experience with Rainbow Palace was positive. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the food was of good quality. We would certainly consider ordering from them again in the future.

What a fabulous place to eat food excellent staff brilliant very polite and friendly nothing is to much trouble the food is 100% really good allways fresh service the staff provide is so good very clean and hygienic the cfood those chefs send out is in my eyes is 100% perfect went there yesterday for my Birthday and I an so glad I did could not of been better so Thank you to All the staff and chefs for making my birthday a very memorable one Stuart Brewster

Lovely birthday takeaway meal. First time trying this place and it was great.

It's a lovely place and a great menu. I had king prawns ,green peppers in black bean sauce .it was spoilt by salt .why do the chefs use too much salt .you can add this at the table but it can't be removed from the sauce once cooked .I hope the chef will correct this because it spilt my meal .great service, lovely place. Shame .maybe I'll give it another chance

Not so great unfortunately our meals were under cooked veg hard and chicken very watery. Staff aren’t very welcoming and had to wait for items like drinks for a long time and had to ask more than twice for items. I used to eat here every special occasion unfortunately the food and staff are below average, it was quite frustrating as this was my sisters birthday meal out and it was very disappointing.

Visited many times. Standard maintained. Would recommend. Will visit again soon.

Lobely food, and not too expensive.

Rainbow palace don’t change after all the years, food is excellent the deals in the week are excellent the sauce on the bbq spare ribs are good. Love having a chat with B just super friendly.

What a great night! We arranged to go out from work. There were over 40 of us! The service we received was top notch. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. We were all very impressed. Thank you.

fantastic place, highly recommended to anyone who is thinking of going to a Cantonese restaurant, staff are amazing, the atmosphere is brilliant & B the owner is a really nice chap..been going for years & I absolutely love the place..top marks for Rainbow Palace.
