Rainbow Chinese Take Away in Scarborough

Everybody in the party(of 10) enjoyed the food here, there was 1 meal missed. Don't deliver and were told a time and had to wait 15 mins after the time but most agreed it was worth the wait.

Needs to update menu. Doesn’t deliver though it says it does, also isn’t open at the times it says.

Obnoxious English lady front of house, says that she has been here for 20 years, unbelievable. If you like monosodium glutamate gel in every dish you will be in food heaven. Will never be back.

Ordered for 6, no one happy with their meals. You get what you pay for.

Pro's: Chips and chow mein are OK. So are the chicken balls (without the sauce, see below). Con's: Everything seemed to come in the same gelatinous sauce in varying colours. It was far from enticing and resembled wallpaper paste. The sauce on the bbq spare ribs, pineapple chicken, chicken with cashews and the sweet and sour sauce all had this same gloopy consistency. We'd been thinking of trying Rainbow for the last few years during our family summer holidays, we did today, and won't again.

Wish I had read the reviews first before I went. This has to have been the worst Chinese I have ever had. Very little flavour and the sauces were an awful gloop. Do not waste your money here. Disappointed ☹️

Long waiting times, only thing I enjoyed was the prawn crackers… curry sauce is far too spicy for anyone to enjoy

Service good, however had to go to the bank for cash as don’t accept cards 🙄. Spare ribs gloopy and no taste to bbq sauce. Spring rolls had nothing inside. Main meals had no colour whatsoever for veg and again very gloopy or runny sauces. I was told by others in our group not to give 1 star but was kind in giving 2.

In my opinion, the best Chinese takeaway in Whitby.

It has taken me years to get around to this takeaway. Bare time fam. In that time I have lost out. Defo, 100%, gen, legit best Chinese in Whitby, lit. Rahh! The spesh chow mein, the prawns in it were massive. Very well cooked. The beef was spot on. Salt and pepper chilly chicken fam, oh my god. Portions are massive. Everything was wrapped well so nothing spilt in the car on the way home, care had been taken every step of order. All the packaging, everything that was in our order was in recyclable packages. No mad plastics. Will be going through menu. Basically I would recommend this establishment.

What a disgusting meal ...had the duck ..it was horrid in a soup like gloop, had to bin it . The fried rice was claggy an cold in places..don't waste your money.

Food is low quality. Worst part of this takeaway is the service. You can go in and stand 10 minutes waiting to order and not even be greeted. Then she’ll come through, Take a telephone order and then walk off to the back again without acknowledging you. Very strange. Happens time and time again. They really need to get the basics right

Absolutely delicious. The poor lady appeared totally rushed off her feet this evening, not sure how many people out the back but only had the impression one was. Yet still the food was well cooked, very flavoursome and tasty. Will definitely be back when we next come to Whitby!

Nice food, plenty of choice. Usually a 30-40 wait for other, but worth the wait... we get the 3 person mixed meal and its well worth it.

Been to a few chinese takeaways around whitby and I've found this one to be the best so far and the best value for money. Hot food better quality than alot I have been too and 9 pound cheaper than anuther Chinese not to far from this one that we used to go to. Great value for money. Big portions at a great price.

Nowhere is ever as good as "your local". But this is an enjoyable Chinese. We're on holiday in the area and enjoyed the meal very well. Chow mein, egg foo yung and spring rolls were lovely and I dare say similar to what we are used to back in staffs. Reasonably priced and generous portions!

I've worked all over England,Scotland and Wales and never had a worse Chinese than this OMG absolutely terrible ordered Roast duck green pepper black bean sauce which wasn't even on the menu? At a Chinese? The duck!!!, a good vet would have had it back on its feet avoid.

Disgusting meal tonight , ribs and sweet sour chicken it was pure gloop. I should have taken it all back dont go .the ribs were all hard and tough top 2 were very tasty rice cold hard totally totally disgusting and waste of £16 .........

we were recommended Rainbow by a friend - she owns a static caravan in Whitby , and uses local takeaways. We ordered on the way over to Whitby on a very windy Friday evening - the food order was to be ready within 20 minutes so was waiting when we got to town. As always the food was piping hot , extremely tasty, and excellent value for money. portions sizes more than enough for the 3 of us. will definitely use them again when we next stay over (have left a menu in the caravan for others !)

We'd been here previously when in the area so when we decided to have Chinese I phoned order in. I got the impression that they only started cooking my food when I arrived but only waited 15 minutes. Food very tasty, hot & decent sized portions.

Took a gamble as never visited before & was well impressed. The food was tasty, & hot. Whilst we were staying local we used it on two separate occasions & was impressed both times. I would certainly use it again when I'm in the area.

Gloop followed by more gloop. So disappointing after some excellent meals from there 2-3 years ago. What’s happened? The Szechuan Prawns and mushrooms just tasted like some powdered gravy with no definable taste, the Singapore noodles were just hot with no taste and no vegetables. No vibrancy of flavours, the chicken sweet and sour was just over battered chicken which was as tough as old boots with red gloop which to me looked like it would register on a Geiger counter it looked and tasted so phenomenally lurid. The salted spare ribs were spicy but again, lacking in any real flavour and were an effort to negotiate. What a shame that after visiting this establishment on numerous occasions in the past that we were left so disappointed today. However, it was cheap so when most of our meal was consigned to the bin, we didn’t feel too out of pocket.

This is my favourite take away,I find it good value,the food is always piping hot, and the average wait is 10 minutes, sometimes longer if they are very busy

Love this place and we always visit when in Whitby. Cheap and tasty. The onion rings are always a hit. Friendly staff too ♥️

Very pleased with quality of the food

I live within a five minute walk from these premises. As such we use about once a month. This Chinese is nothing special. Cost, menu, the end product is just about average all around. The most important comment is that in the main, the food is prepared quickly, served hot with fresh ingredients. It is reasonably tasty. I rarely have the same item or items and have not found something which made me think yeeuch!Fine for the mid or end of week substitute to cooking.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH, seen better dishwater. The beef was obviously recently unfrozen packet sliced beef.Both dishes we had were only lukewarm after only five minutes transport back to holiday accommodation. The rice had the consistency of a solid block of starch.The only thing OK was the chips which at least were cooked properly and hot. My advice is to avoid.

Great for take away at end of a drinking day. Staff very helpful. In ideal location opposite bus station. So hope on bus when food ready.

A very pleasant takeaway at a decent price served up at decent speed. Only misses out on a five-star rating because of the yobby kids who were waiting for their meal at the same time- perhaps next visit will be happier! :)

We called in late and ordered a take away as the restaurant was closing. We ordered drinks (alcohol) while we waited. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The food was delicious. We had special chow mein and special curry. I will definitely be going back on my next visit to Whitby.

This take-away gets very busy and one can wait a while for your meal order, however it is definitely worth the wait. The food is all cooked to order and fresh.

Lovely little chinese, we bought chow mein, chicken balls, rice and took back to our campsite! - the kids loved it! the chow mein portion was huge! very tasty!

I dislike writing negative reviews but this take away is poor. Poor quality food with very little taste. The sweet and sour sauce easily the worst that I have ever tasted, just a sour glutinous mess. The meat in our pork dishes appeared grey and old. The spare ribs once again the worst ever. Not an enjoyable meal at all. The two stars awarded are to reflect the fact that the establishment is clean and the counter staff enthusiastic.

Utter rubbish. We tried this Chinese takeaway whilst staying nearby. Ordered beef in blackbean sauce. The sauce had the consistency of cold gravy. It was just a giant lump of mush. I would never use this place again. Save ur money and ur tastebuds and go elsewhere.

The worst "meal/takeaway" I have had the misfortune to purchase in my 58 years, absolute garbage, beef..... no way was it beef, all sauce like cold congealed gravy, cheap it may be rubbish it certainly is, go hungry rather than using this place!!!!

Excellent Chinese takeaway. Fairly basic range on the menu but all in generous proportions. Recommended.
