Very friendly and helpful staff. We were warmly welcomed to the pub. It was very quiet when we arrived but soon filled up and was bustling. Excellent food and excellent service.

As someone else has said, there is not much curb appeal but the food as amazing. Stopped off here as was staying nearby and other places were fully booked or closed, lucky me because the food was great, chips were the best I’ve ever tasted, simply amazing. There were beers and real ale on tap so can’t complain at that either. I loved the way locals were coming in for drinks, showing the pub doesn’t rely on tourists and there has the be a reason people keep coming back. I loved the way that the staff all sat down to eat a meal together also, they still checked in on us and didn’t make a big deal of it but what a wonderful way to treat your staff and build a family appeal to the pub, superb business. Might take the 6 hour round trip again, just for those chips!

It is a travesty that as a party of three, that we were the only people present for a sit down lunch. A few others came in for a lunch to takeaway and they like us would not be disappointed. Warm and friendly welcome from the barman who made us feel at home and was happy to help. A good selection of dishes on the menu, we went for a gammon steak, which was enormous, a homemade chicken and mushroom pie, a a Railway Poulette in a cream of leak sauce. All very tasty, nicely presented, and generous portions. Quite honestly, couldn’t fault the food or the service, good honest food.

what a lucky find, I had sunday lunch here and it was reasonable and lots of different vegetables and the roasties were cooked just right, plenty of beef and gravy just right. Wonderful welcome very homely its a bit off from the dual carriageway but worth a visit, try it you wont be disappointed.

Very friendly welcome for us & our dog soon joined by friends from our local Jaguar Enthusiasts club. I must say that the roast lunch was one of the tastiest I have eaten for a long time. We were well looked after by our hosts & their staff & I can highly recommend the Railway for food.

We had a lovely welcome from the team at the Railway. A nicely decorated pub with quirky decor with plenty of space. We had a delicious 3 course sunday lunch which was reasonably priced, the food was really tasty and so nicely presented. Would highly recommend the Railway for a hearty meal and a warm welcome, we will definitely be back.

Staying in the area for a couple of days, so decided to head to the pub for an evening meal. The outside doesn’t really have much curb appeal (sorry!) but the inside is really quirky and well done, toilets are lovely and clean. Staff really friendly and so helpful in accommodating dietary allergies. Food was well cooked, well presented and plentiful. Had a lovely meal and will be returning tomorrow night for another evening meal. Thanks guys x

My husband and I had an evening meal at the Railway yesterday and it was excellent and very nicely presented. My husband had the pork and I had the balsamic chicken which were on the Specials Board and would really recommend these meals. Service was also excellent.

We had a lovely meal in nice surroundings. There was enough choice on the menu and the food was served fairly quickly. We had a warm welcome and will return soon.

The food was excellent as usual. What was great we had a six year old in the party and they were brilliant in making sure because he didn’t want a traditional dinner that he had food to his liking with colouring items to keep him occupied. The beef dinner was extremely tasteful, plenty of it e.g . vegetables and a staff that brought drinks and food to the table promptly and with a smile. i went with a group of 5 my mates and i wanted meudium rare steak it cane back well done, we all orders pints of lager it came back as cider, i will not be visiting again, very poor from this pub

Visited as a group of eight staying locally on a ‘mini break’ during the Christmas / New Year interlude. We were looked after by a young lady who’s name we unfortunately didn’t get - very friendly and accommodating. Good food, wine and beer. Worth a visit.

We came in from the back parking lot and were a bit confused about where to dine. The dining room walls were unusual and I wish I had taken a picture. We had the pork and chicken specials and they were good. They did not have any Welsh ale on drought which was too bad, but I survived. There was an amazing amount of food so we had leftovers for the next night.

Called off the hop with a family visiting from London most of us had the steak cooked various from rare to well done all came out the way we asked for the whole meals were done to perfection and there was a good selection of puddings available especially the cheese cake will be back soon as it was it was the best meal I have for a long time

Melanie and her team offer a mouthwatering menu, always varied with local dishes and exciting new dishes to try. The team are attentive and accommodating, we enjoy every visit, exploring a new menu each time. The Early Bird menu is an absolute bargain amd portions will not fail to fill! The Sunday lunch is a must!!! Well done, the team deliver everytime!

this restaurant was recommended to us by the owner of bryn hebog where we were staying it does not look anything special from the outside but dont let this put you off we had a warm welcome when we arrived and we could sit anywhere our order came without to much waiting and was really tasty and good portions i would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely find and will certainly return if in the area

The food was nice, which I guess is the most important thing. We had a 10oz steak, which was nice, but I guess for £21, I would expected the whole package. Something missing, little atmosphere. The bar staff were also serving food, so little things missed like steak knives, the offer of condiments and sauces, etc. Being offered a free bottle of water was a nice touch though. There are cheaper meals on the menu and I think ours was the most expensive, but would go back.

Just got home having had an excellent roast Sunday lunch at the Railway. They were busy today but found room for me and were so friendly and helpful. I had roast lamb with very fresh veg, my favourite cauliflower cheese and a super Yorkshire pudding, not to mention the yummy gravy. Thank you to all involved for an outstanding lunch - I totally recommend The Railway Nantgaredig and will be visiting again soon

Went there as a family for an evening meal as the pictures on Facebook looked good along with good reviews mostly for their Sunday lunches so we had high hopes. We all went for the boozy battered cod and although it doesn’t say homemade batter on the menu we made that assumption based on all the decoration and nonsense you see in the pictures. It was awful, really awful. It was no more than the sort of cod you get in Tesco with soggy batter, very little cod and tasteless. The chips come across as if they’ve been par cooked then cooked again but not very well as the are almost powdery in consistency. I opted for the lemon tart as again looked great in photos and was claimed as homemade. It was the worst I’ve had, not only did it have a soggy bottom, the whole thing was positively bendy. Won’t be wasting money here again and certainly wouldn’t recommend. Great pictures are nothing if they can’t be backed up. Style over substance as they say in the Great British Bake-off, more like the Great British rip off.

Managed to get a table on father's Day even though we booked late. Met by friendly staff and lots of buzz about the place. Food was worth waiting for but only 1 Vegetarian option which we ordered. Great food lovely staff. I think a bit more attention to the basics would be nice, table felt sticky and we were facing a wall in the library just 4 of us. Would rather have been in front bar which was more lively. Bet they would have moved us if we had asked. No-one checked back to see if food was ok or if we needed anything, we needed more water and napkins. They were busy but more experienced staff would have made the meal better

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and scrumptious food. Visited on Father's Day for Sunday lunch and everything was cooked fresh and it was delicious. A couple of our group are fussy but no request was too much. Will definitely be back to try more!

What a chef! The food was second to none in the area. We had one of the best meals we have had worthy of a five star rating. For main course I had the lamb sand my husband had the steak. Both were absolutely delicious.The new management team have set very high standards and long may it continue. It is great to have a quality service in the village again. The atmosphere is great and we have already recommended it to many people.

Had a meal here on a Friday night. Main and desert for the both of us and we thoroughly enjoyed! Meal potions were very generous but my vegetarian main was just a little greasy because of all the cheese. We’re local so will be back!

Well what a find! After being rudely turned away from the pub at Whitemill we found ourselves at the railway! The food was fantastic! I had the prawns to start which were gorgeous, melt in the mouth lamb for main and chocolate & malibu for desert. The food was amazing. Although we live 4 hours away I would definitely be tempted to return just for the food here. Thank you

The Railway opened under new management last week, when we heard that the talented Emerson was the chef we couldn't wait to book a table. We were not disappointed, Prawn, salmon and crab cocktail to start with, the smoked salmon was beautiful, this was followed by the slow cooked lamb and dirty chicken, both were delicious. The chips were divine, really crispy and fluffy inside. Only one of us had room for dessert and he opted for vanilla creme brulee with raspberries and was served with 2 shortbread biscuits which just melted in your mouth. Looking forward to our next visit

Brilliant food and atmosphere! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was down to the shock we had when 2 white wine spritzers were £12! Apart from that food was worth the money! Will defo visit again thanks you 🥰

Visited our favourite Carvery today. Once again beautiful food, excellent staff, we both had melt in the mouth beef with all the trimmings, the food and gravy were exceptional, as a bonus I had cabbage with red onion it was delicious, can’t wait to visit next time we are in the area, Julie

Pleasant lunch. We sat on the big table in the cwtch. It was difficult with eight of us to slide in and out but we managed. It was a Sunday lunch cavers and was good starters were not very inspiring. But all in all we enjoyed. Would go back

Visited yesterday as group of 8 and all had the carvery. By far one of the best we had all ever had. The beef was tender, plenty of veg inclusing delicious cauliflower cheese and verg tasty home made gravy.

Amazing food, cauliflower cheese and meats are top quality, the gravy is to die for, would highly recommend, 8 people looker after really well, cracking service highly recommended

Lovely homely pub with rustic decor. Although the tables need changing, as they were so low, it made for uncomfortable sitting. Saw alot of people especially men sat akwardly too. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful.

After many years of not coming to the Railway (not through bad food or service), I came back to the Railway this week for lunch. Wow!! What a transformation! The food is really nice and the environment / ambience is very homely!!

We booked a large table here for a family birthday. We were asked to pre-order, which we did.

I visited the Railway Inn about six months ago and decided to revisit for Sunday Lunch on the strength of several positive comments from friends. The Sunday lunch was good with friendly service.There was a good choice from the buffet style menu but the starters were a bit tokenish being a limited choice of three and not very inspiring. Having said this I was too full up to have desert which looked very nice ( I seem to remember they were good last time.) The dinning room is distinctly odd ( although some reviewers I notice, found it"cosy") In my last review I described its a bit like "Dracula's dungeon" and I found nothing to change my opinion. It does need a bit of a refurb!

Well we turned up and the place was busy, so we asked for a table for 5 which they set up for us, we was then offered starters and drinks so far so good, then it was time for the carvery it was like a pop up market stall the meet being carved over the food, there as defiantly not enough room. well on to the food the beef was dry the turkey was nice and moist but had a strange after taste the roast potatoes needed cooking longer the beans where drowned in water the gravy was like bisto not nice again with a after taste.

Beautiful Sunday lunch. 4 of us had chicken and 1 had beef. Stay away from the roulade as it's a slice of Swiss roll with cherries on side with cream. That is not roulade. I would go here again. Good service and main meal is good.

We won a Sunday lunch for 2 from our local Radio station, so went along. The carvery was lovely with plenty of choice. A range of puddings which were beautiful and reasonably priced.

This place was recommended to me by a local I met the previous week so I brought my step mum here today for a Mothers day lunch.It was Sunday so it was a carvery and the food was first class- the vegetables were cooked to perfection and I particularly liked the leeks in cheese sause. The meat was tender and everything had been home cooked.

I came here with a large group earlier this week. I hadn't been year in years, even though I came quite a few times as a child/teenager, but that was about 15-20 years ago. I wasn't sure what to expect. I remembered it being good when I came before, particularly the lasagne, and I didn't think it would be as good. I was right - it was better!! I had duck spring rolls as a starter, with plum sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. I had lasagne with garlic bread for my main meal. The lasagne was actually better than when I came here before all those years ago! I didn't have room for pudding. Generous portion sizes, good value for money, and the service was really good to. Our waiter was very friendly, and a happy guy. Very funny! Would come again and would reccomend to others.

We live in Nantgaredig and decided to visit on a Thursday evening for food and a drink. We came away so pleased we decided to visit. Service was good, food was excellent and the place just was lovely, warm with the decor lush. We’ll be eating and drinking there again. Keep it up!

after visiting the botanical gardens we went to look for sunday lunch ,we came across the railway inn at nantgaredig ,we were given a very warm welcome ,shown to the carvery where we helped ourselves to a large selection of fresh veg.. the food was outstanding and good value for money when we are down this way again we will without doubt pay the railway inn another visit.

I went here last weekend for Sunday lunch and the whole experience was great. My family and I had a three-course meal and we all thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. The staff were great and the service was fast and attentive. Stayed after lunch for a couple of beers to watch the football too, on a huge HD screen, while my son finished his ice cream!Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a nice meal or a day in the pub watching live sport.

Ate here a few times and can really recommend this pub. Great place, friendly service and amazing food. Last time I had the curry and it was delicious.Due to its location there is also lovely places to go for walks in the surrounding area.

Went here with my family for Sunday lunch and were pleasantly surprised were staff were welcoming and although we were not booked and the restaurant was busy they found a table for us. Between all of us had the selection of meats that were offered (lamb, beef and turkey) and there was so much veg and was family served which I though was great and we all had desserts which were all on display in the restaurant. Service was amazing nothing was too much to ask for and all for a great price

The old Scottish chef has left. I am not one to usually complain but this was poor. I have been here 6 times in 6 months. Always spot on. This time the food changed completely. I recommended the mega burger to my friends. Really poor, not home cooked and appeared more like a burger van burger. I had the special venison burger. Appalling, a tiny burger in a bap, no salad and completely dry.The service was poor. We were told by the waitress the Scottish chef had left, hence why the food was different. The staff were disinterested and were more interested playing with their phones. My other half complained to the manager which fell on deaf ears. Sadly we won't be returning as we had always had a superb meal here. Utter let down!

We have frequented this place fairly regularly for the past 8 months and have always been totally happy with everything until our last visit.The lunch last Sunday was terrible, beef more akin to shoe leather, Yorkshire cake!!? and veg that was a slush or undercooked. to cap it all the jam roly-poly was a solid rock and totally inedible. When paying the bill we were asked if everything was ok and said that it was not but still we were charged for everything.There was an excellent Scottish chef employed there but there was no sign of him there last Sunday so in our minds it must have been the reason for it to be so bad.

Staying in a local bed and breakfast and this was the only place available close by to have a meal. Nice, welcoming pub and we enjoyed a nice, freshly cooked meal. Downside was that due to the meals being cooked to oeder, we waited over an hour for it to be served which would put me off going again.

I haven't been there for years... I didn't have a meal so I can't comment on that aspect of the place but did have a bowl of chips as I had heard they were good, and they were very good... If you like homemade chips, they are on the money...The place has a rustic country pub feel about it which takes me back a bit... I like it...They have a good selection of beer to suite most tastes... I most definitely will be back... They do 2 meals for £12...

Called here for a meal on a saturday evening. We've had the sausage and chips basket meal a number of times previously so thought we'd have the same again. After we'd ordered, a young waiter came over and said there's only 2 sausages not 3, as is stated on the menu. As there was a menu on the wall next to where we sat I brought to his attention that it states 3 not 2. He said he'd find out. Anyway, our food came in a bowl not a basket, like we've had before and with 2 sausages. I said again there should be 3 as stated and was amazed when the waiter just scribbled out 3 and wrote 2! Asked for ketchup twice but never got any. All in all it was a very poor service, bad menu advertising and customer service at its worst. Before leaving I brought this to the attention of a young girl behind the bar who didn't really want to know. We were thinking of coming here with friends but needless to say we won't be returning. It's worth remembering that old saying ' the customer is always right' as it's the customer that ultimately pays towards the wages and word of mouth goes far.

Called in last Friday for the lunchtime meal deal. We were not anticipating much however when the meals arrived we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was piping hot all home cooked and 'real' chips too. The desserts looked lush especially the welsh cake cheesecake apparently served with chocolate sauce the chef came out to say she had made it herself.The dining room interior is very quirky a modern twist on a scandi theme.We would not hesitate to recommend will certainly be returning!!

Steak was fatty unable to cut returned with fresh steak but everything on plate was kept worm therefor chips when grease unable to eat and tge peas and mushrooms started to go cold half way through. The lasagnia was un ateable. Very dissapointed.

Was at The Railway with a largish party. Starter of garlic mushrooms comprised very few mushrooms floating in a ramekin full of runny cream. My rib eye steak was overdone and inedible. No discount on my bill so £16.95 for a spoonful of frozen peas and a few chips. This lack of acknowledgement for a poor meal will not attract me back or to recommend to others

We dropped in to the Railway as we in the area and were hungry for lunch. We had known the Railway for many years and had heard it was under new ownership so it might have been a gamble - but it wasn't! On entering we were reassured as not much had been changed or "poshed up" in the layout and furnishings. Lots of signs up on the walls saying that the food was cooked from fresh so that it might take time to come. We were shown by friendly bar staff to our table in the comfortable and relaxed dining room and our drinks brought to us. The food came in reasonable time. He had ham and eggs, I had chili con carne and then a big bowl of REAL potato chunky chips. My chili was delicious and hot/spicy, just how I would make it and one so seldom gets in eateries - at £7.95 well priced. My friend said his ham was top notch and same price as mine. The chef came out to ask if everything was ok. I saw several things I would like to try another time - I will certainly be back. They are upholding the excellent tradition of their predecessors who are still living next door in their retirement. Only suggestion, that the menu indicates just how hot their chili is - I loved it but many might find it a bit OTT.

Visited here on 02 Jan with my boyfriend after hearing good things and we were pleasantly surprised. Apart from the chef being a bit disgruntled about us turning up at 3pm on a bank holiday (seems fair enough), we had a really nice meal - I had a salmon fillet with crushed new potatoes (they did taste a bit microwaved, but ok), peas and a pesto sauce and salad; my boyfriend had a lamb pie with a giant portion of chips. Would visit again :)

Both my husband had a great meal when we called in on our way back from shopping the new owners had redecorated the inn but managed to keep the old world charm of the village pub with different rooms for different functions. During our visit there was a Christmas party in the dinning room and everybody looked happy and content. The staff were very helpful and were knowledgeable regarding the menu, the food was excellent and the chef came out of the kitchen to ask how we had enjoyed the meal and offered us more chips to mop up the gravy left. Didn't like the coffee from the machine but it was ok. We will be returning again and will tell all our friends and family.

This pub has a lot of potential with a large car park and lots of local adverts on approach.It has the most peculiar mixture of styles.I had my meal in the main dinning room which is distinctly spooky -sort of like a mixture of Dracula's basement and a Bavarian hunting lodge.I mused at how I would transform it into a really nice room for under a £1000.It could be done but getting rid of the" dead dog" carpet would be a priority. I had cod and chips which was nicely done but with no adornments like mushy peas. The desert was very nice and I think home made. The barman/waiter I initially though to be rather gruff, but he turned out to be a very nice guy, attentive and pleasant throughout the meal.

we called in here a few weeks ago at lunch. No other customers, which considering other reviews seemed strange. Have to say the food was disappointing, the fish l feel was probably frozen, the batter was greasy and not at all crisp. In general a very disappointing meal and overpriced.

Really lovely affordable homemade food that we would highly recommend. It is full of character that has friendly staff and really tasty homemade food.

Called with wife on a Monday Lunchtime for a meal. (The Web Site doesn't specify it's open then !). It has a huge car park at the back. We had a warm greeting. Pub is huge with 3 lounge/eating areas and has a lot of character. However, there was no atmosphere at all when we called primarily I'm sure because it's a bit out of the way. We were led to the large restaurant area next to the kitchen. My wife only wanted a Leek & potato soup which was on offer and I had sea bass in a white wine and chips. We waited approx 25 mins for the meals, and were disappointed with both.However, as we wanted a meal lunchtime , a drink and somewhere close to the National Botanic Gardens- it served our purpose- but I don't think we would go out of our way to eat there again.Also, it was extremely annnoying when we were eating with the comings and going through the swing door into the kitchen that the door squeeked every time- when all it needed was a bit of oil !!

Visited this evening for a friends birthday meal. Amazing service, friendly staff & amazing atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious! And reasonable prices too! Highly recommended! We all enjoyed our meals and drinks and will defiantly be returning again!
