Radcliffe Fish Bar in Rushcliffe

Gave it another try after several bad experiences. Pie was so hard I couldn’t cut it and almost empty because the meat was so dried up. Chips greasy and cold. I used the chippie frequently in the past but stopped because the quality of food was poor. They half prepare food . Put chips to stand on cooker going soggy whilst waiting for food to cook.

Really disappointed with the recent quality, has been a good chip shop in the past but two nights running this week towards the end of the day (19:15) ALL the chips served have been the small hard chippings of a potatoe that have obviously been kept warm for a long period and as a result they were hard and crunchy. Barely a single 'normal' chip. I had lamb kebab meat too and an £8 tray was barely enough to feed 1 person, whereas in the past and at other chip shops a tray would feed at least two people. The chips were the worst chip shop chips I've ever had, if the shop is reading this you need to serve fresh chips and throw the day's leftover bits away not palm them off on customers. Service is still friendly.

I’m new to the area, I wasn’t even planning on getting a takeaway, but I saw thing place on our walk to the village and instantly fancied chips! I didn’t catch the guys name who served us, but he was the manager and he was brilliant! So welcoming and friendly and his customer service was on point! Once we got home, the food was still piping hot and the curry sauce was to die for! So much flavour and plenty of salt and vinegar on the chips! Definitely one of the best chippies we have been to in a long while and I’ve tried so many across the Uk! Highly recommend this little place! Thank you again

I've just started to get our Friday night supper from here, we live in tollerton but well worth the extra few miles, all the food is absolutely beautiful, the cod is done to perfection, the chips are gorgeous and the right colour nice and golden, not anaemic looking, we'll be having chippy more often, Dale

Food was brilliant. The fish was delicious and well cooked. The chips were very fresh and very tasty the curry sauce was excellent. Nice and warm and good value for the quality

Oh dear. I have used this fish and chip shop for 18 years since I moved close to it when I bought a house just round the corner. Normally I have had really good times at the fish bar which also has a sit down to eat through the takeaway bit at the back. They have previously always been quite nice, although they do have a very high labour turnover. So tonight I was buying for my son, I asked for a small childrens fish and chips with a small mushy peas, The asian lady that served me who was a good 50 or 60 years old, took my order and she appeared quite nice. She asked the chef boy to put a small fish in for children and took the whole order from me. She rang through the till £1.50 and I did honestly think that prices were really good for childrens menu.. But then she came back over and said it was £9.50 for the meal just for my son ?? Obviously that was even more than a full adults deal with large fish, large mushy peas and large full chips. I have no idea who this woman is but these are my concerns!!!! She only rang £1.50 in the till as it came up on the customer screen from the till which is what I saw, but she was trying to charge me £9.50. £1.50 for the company and £8 for her. Is she having a laugh let alone with me, but also the company she works for and also all the forest fans??? Anyway I politely declinded paying more money than an adults meal which I wasn't getting and I left. I know what burger my son likes from McDonalds and I made him happy with that. So all good in the end but who actually likes to get robbed by anybody who is making money on your bill that you don't know about I really hope she wasn't the boss of the fish bar, as she is a total rip off merchant. Not great for your local fish and chip shop ever, boss or staff. Im not happy, I will never go back into the premises, but over the last 18 years or so I have been hundreds of times. BUT NOT ANYMORE :(

Always a friendly place to visit where they value your custom. And it's excellent quality too.

Ordered the doner in a naan with chips. The naan must have been sat in the warmer all day as it was so chewy. The meat looked like it hadn't been cooked. And £12.00 for the privilege!

After a tiresome day at work I felt a little peckish , what better than to fill the void with a fish and chips I thought . I wasnt disappointed. I ordered the fish meal deal with homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas . Cant fault both taste, value and overall professionalism of this little fish bar I happened across . :)

Fish bites were unreal. Definitely my new go to chippy. The staff were friendly and the prices are good!

Great food and friendly service, okay prices have increased but in the current energy crisis, what else are they to do, the kebabs are always fresh and plentiful and obviously the quality of the fish goes without saying 👍

Cooked fresh to order. So good I couldn’t wait till I got home to eat them! Chips were absolutely delicious, perfect amount of vinegar.

Very dissappointing. Had a large cod and small chips and a doner kebab. Cost £18.20p which I thought was a bit expensive but worth it if the quality of the food was good. It wasn't. Large fish was two small fish that, even when put together, weren't anywhere near a large portion. Chips were overcooked, mushy, and stuck to the paper so much you had a job to scrape them off. Definitely were not freshly cooked even in the previous few hours. Kebab was most dissappointing of all. £7.50p for a small pitta bread in which the meat portion was so small it didn't even make a bulge in the pitta nor reach the top of the pocket. Looked as wide as a sausage roll. Was like a childs portion. Meat wasn't recently carved and was dry and nearly tasteless as if it had been lying in the container for a day or two. Definitely worst chip shop i've been in for a long while

Came for dinner this afternoon. Young woman that served us was friendly. The food was good; large haddock was hot and a decent size for the price but the chips were slightly dry.

Pie and chips were ok, but gravy absolutely disgusting 🤢. I think I will give this chippie a miss next time.

Absolutely disgusting. Fish covered in oil and chips were rubbish - not like a chip shop. Spent over £20 for two people and we both felt sick. Would rather they just left Radcliffe and let someone better take the space.

Gross ! Don’t waste your hard earned cash. Just spent £46 here for 3 families and got to say it was not nice. The chips were reheated, dried up and hard and the fish cake was burnt and tasted of it.

Used this chip shop several times now passing through Radcliffe thinking surly the chips I had last time can’t be as bad as the last time. Well I can confirm that the chips here are terrible they were hard and some that were mushy and falling apart on the fork. I really wouldn’t bother stopping. I also had a kebab here several months ago which in my opinion was very, very small for the price. I’d avoid this chip shop if I were you. I actually feel sorry for the people of Radcliffe that they have such a rubbish chip shop

Travelling though Radcliffe which I usually do I decided to stop for some chips and as they’ve been in the past they were absolutely terrible they were soggy falling apart on the fork some of them were hard and chewy and really disgusting. The oil that the chips were cooked in tasted rancid. Now I’ve stopped at this chip shop several times in the past and they’ve always been terrible chips. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but this time I decided to leave a review. I also brought a kebab several months ago which in my opinion was very overpriced and for what I payed for with my hard earned cash was very, very underfilled. Lots of salad but very stingy with the meat. I think your potato supplier doesn’t like you from reading the reviews of your chips shop you should perhaps give it up and let someone who knows what there doing take over. Disgusting 🤮

Food very hit and miss. Telephone orders consistently wrong. young Inexperienced staff, rude manager/owner. And it’s not cheap. The quality of the food and service is just not worth the money. Go elsewhere!

I've recently moved into Radcliffe and this is the first (and will be the last) time I will use this chippy. I ordered two pieces of fish, one large chips to share and mushy peas. The batter on the fish was nice but very thick and the fish inside (plaice) was rather small and of low quality. The mushy peas did not taste of anything at all - not even peas. But worst of all were the chips. I have been a student in the past and I know what yesterdays chips warmed up in a microwave oven taste like and these were the same. Not cheap either - I cannot recommend this place at all.

Yet again, my order is wrong. There always seems to be something missing or chips are cold. The standard of service is very poor. Customer care when you ring up is non existent. I once asked for NO cabbage or tomatoes on my kebab, got it home only to find my kebab had nothing but cabbage and tomatoes. They says its a difficult job getting an order together.....really? Heaven help them if they had to do my job! This latest farce today, the manager told me that the item missing from my partners meal 'was not important '. It was quite inportant (and wanted), which is why I ordered it. I even got the lad to repeat my order so that I knew he'd not missed anything. But obviously it was still not enough. When I rang to complain, the manager was incredibly rude. Will not be going back again. I've wasted far to much money on sub standard or missing food.

In the past the food has been nice but recently it’s really touch and go what you get, especially on a Friday night. We have the same order every time - the only time I ever deviated, I got a cold (in the middle) veggie burger and was told, we cook them from frozen and they’re difficult to keep warm in winter! Usually, I order scampi, half of the time they forget the tartare sauce even though my partner always asks them. Tonight it was the last straw and my partner rang to complain. He was told very rudely by the manager that it’s complimentary and not an important part of the meal anyway! It’s important to me, scampi is quite dry without the tartare sauce. Why offer something if you’re not going to give it to the customer? My partner orders the same kebab each time, with all the salad but no cabbage and tomato. Most of the time it’s incorrect, Once, the only salad he got was cabbage and tomato. On this occasion, he was offered a complimentary kebab. We are fed up with our order being wrong. The staff are young and inexperienced and the adults are rude. We’ve always been regular customers and we like to support locally wherever possible but I’d prefer to drive further afield than ever set foot in here again.

Over the last few visits things have been getting worse... tonight's sloppy large cod tops it all being in bits, overly greasy, burnt & wafer thin fish 3/4 was batter. Not impressed. My advice, make the drive to Bingham from now on.

I turned up to find they were serving telephone orders only. No signs outside and I see nothing here either. Only wanted 1 fish & chips but they wouldn't serve me. Said I could phone my order from outside the shop and wait for possibly an hour. Wife and Grandson at the caravan waiting so had to get sausage and microchips from Tesco. Really, really poor service. Only gave 1 star because I couldn't give none.

Really disappointed with the chips. They’ve been hit and miss over the last few years but this weeks were terrible. It’s as if they were yesterday’s that had been reheated. They were tasteless, chewy and some so tough they had to be thrown away. A total waste of money. Such a shame as I like to support local businesses but can’t see myself rushing back here.

Always been fantastic chips, but what's happened to the portion sizes?? Only a couple of weeks age they were really generous but now they've become really stingy. Bit of a shame because it's quite pricey

As a coeliac sufferer (gluten intolerance) it can be difficult to find fast food outlets that cater for this, having moved from Bridgford to Radcliffe on Trent last year I was pleasantly surprised to find this chippy that does GF fish and chips which I would thoroughly recommend, the batter is just the right crispness, the fish is succulent and chips although crispy on the outside, are, fluffy inside.

Took a while to get through on the phone to order food and book my collection slot which might put off some customers. Ordered large fish and chips (X2) + 1 X large gravy (£17). Food was fresh and hot but the fish were not large as sold or by comparison to other good fish and chip shops in the area. Would use again and although the food is fresh and tasty does not represent good value.

Always used to be a good chip shop, not so now. Wasn't aware that we needed to order by phone wasn't made to feel welcome and when I got home the pitta bread was rock hard and inedible. Needless to say won't be hurrying back!!

Normally fish and chips from here are excellent. But last night, 24th July, something went very wrong! Fish small and dry, and chips soggy and horrible. Disappointing to say the least.

Fish and chips were OK but the owner or gentleman serving needs to learn some customer service though we was passing through as daughter has moved to Newton (neighbouring village) didn't know about his ordering system as we don't live in the village either he shouldn't have a note in his window if he doesn't want to serve walk in customer's very rude and abrupt to my wife said will sort our order out but won't be until he has sorted his phoned orders 1st that was fine but while we was out side waiting for our order to be completed a local came and was served straight away with no wait i am assuming he must of been a local and the sign in the window didn't appear to apply to him as people who I assume had ordered in advance came in gave there name paid then where given there food.

After finishing a double shift. At the isolation ward qmc. Went home for a shower. And to put my uniform on a boil wash. Did not feel like cooking so we decided on fish and chips. Only we came to you . Only to be turned away Because you were to busy.. I wish I could turn people away because I am too busy. Shame on you. Thought less.

Closed at 9.50! Gutted. Just moved here and lived in lots of places, quieter places than this and never heard of a chippy shutting this early! I'll have to have a curry instead!

A perfect chippy! We came across this venue by sheer chance and what a great find it was. A varied menu is available with some old favourites from childhood times included, that a lot of other chip shops have left behind. The food was reasonably priced, cooked fresh to order and we were entertained by the owner who was something of an artist in his cooking and comedy! He was very helpful, the venue looked immaculate and I can see this becoming a regular trip for the food!! Congratulations, just how a chip shop should be. Highly recommended

Got the order wrong realised when we got home. Called to say we were missing chips. Got told we were in the wrong. Phone was put down on us. Rang back only to be told 'look love, he didn't order any chips'. Customer service is disgusting!

Great fish usually cooked to order. Chips a real disappointment; soggy and tasteless. Good quantities. Generally friendly service but they can be edgy and a bit rude to some customers. I also observed treatment of a Big Issue Seller and was appalled.

Produces very fine fish and chips. A busy small business that is efficiently run by a team that cares. I always order my special needs as I enter and rarely have to wait more than a few minutes. If it's fast food you're after, I commend it to you.

It's the first time I've been here and I'm super impressed. The chips actually taste of potato are fluffy and not greasy. The batter is light and crispy, and again not oily while the fish was freshly cooked and a good size. Home made tartar sauce is fantastic. Service was great. Can not ask for better. Loved it.

Visited last fri 17th May Cannot fault this chippy. The way the staff go out of there way to promote the food they have on offer and discuss the options to compliment it is something we have not seen before. Mr owner very friendly also .seemed to be steering a good ship with a happy crew. FOOD BANG ON THE BUTTON. THANKS AGAIN H-M.

Excellent chip shop. I know there are some mixed reviews. I suspect they have had a change in cooks. Our food was tasty, hot, and plenty of it.

Being a caravaner I go to fish and chip shops all over the country, and I can say with absolute certainty this is the worst fish and chips I have ever had. They were brown, clearly they had been cooked a long time before I entered the shop! Even the sausage was burnt! And to top it off he charged me £5.50 for sausage and a large chips! It was £4 for a large chips, they certainly were not large!!! My only advice is if you staying near here go to another shop if not you will regret it!! You have been warned!!

Must be the worst chip shop i have ever been to the service was terrible they didn't ask if we wanted salt/vinegar or sauces on kebab and so over priced and to top that we got home took one bite out of the chips and threw them in the bin they tasted frozen or left out for too long. We use the Radcliffe Fish Bar occasionally and have been impressed by how nice the chips and fish have been. The mushy peas are lovely with a nice consistency unlike some places where almost sticks to the container. The staff are friendly and the homemade tartar sauce compliments the meal. I would recommend this fish and chip bar, unlike many that I have bought from in the past.

Its hard to give a chippy 5 stars, but it made it. The owner refitted the place when frankly it was alright before. He has high standards. He moved in when we already had an established chippy and people wondered why. Now he is the only chippy. Others are a little cheaper, but you pay the price knowing its consistant and very good. There is a better one... in cleavleys.. 3 hours away. If your really convinced you need something better.

Had not had a kebab for a year or so went in and was served with a cracking kebab. Decided to go in following week and when we got it home and opened it up the kebab and chips were awful so bad in facts my dogs would even touch it. Went back a couple of day later to complain but the shop was full of customers so decided not to embarrass them and went for a pint went back an hour later and spoke to some women who was fully appreciative that I had not started complaining in a full shop. Stated for me to come back on Saturday and she would happily give me Kebab & chips on the house. Went back on Saturday only to be told that was not he case and no kebabs or Cans were available anyway and got extremely stroppy.

I’ve been to this chippy before and it’s been excellent however I went this evening and my food was cold and dreary my sausage looked like it was ten years old!!!

Not very good at all.Fish is re-heated chips aren't nice guy who cooks everything can't do the job properly.
