Radcliffe Arms, Hitchin in North Hertfordshire

I had roast chicken Sunday roast. It was lovely. Nicely roasted chicken, tasty spuds and veg. Gravy was super tasty too. I didn't know the Radcliffe even sold roasts. Made a change from the super pizza's we usually get. I would recommend a visit.

Really like the Radcliffe atmosphere, it’s a good pub. But service needs to really improve. We arrived for our 6.15 booking, 2 staff members ignored us for nearly 5 mins. We were then seated at our table and told we needed to vacate by 7.30 which is fine if your food arrives promptly…..not so easy to do if your food doesn’t arrive until 7.1y, nearly an hour after arriving.

Lovely local pub that specialises in pizzas but has other food too. Had a really nice local beer on tap.

Great atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Manager Hannah was so helpful as well. Will revisit for sure.

The manageress made the day with her care and professionalism. Really good food and service that convinced my guests to book for Christmas. The Charles Wells triple hop IPA was a bonus, too. Great taste.

Dreary place, not much atmosphere. Outside area looked tired and tables all needed a good clean.

Nice pizzas, good range of options, rancher pizza is great! Good selection of sides, recommend the loaded tater tots. Great selection of beers and good showcase for local brewed options. Easy place to go on an evening without booking.

Booked a table to watch the Euros after seeing it advertised outside the pub and on their website. When we arrived was informed a live singer/band would be on the same time as the match, you couldn’t hear anything and was really distracting. We ended up leaving at half time and going to another pub.

We visited on the 7/06/24 I feel that if a place is booked out for food and only pre-booked food orders can be taken, there should be something informing customers otherwise we wouldn’t have bothered ordering drinks . we won’t be returning

Pizza football beer...... Except no pizza and miserable staff. Was told we can't have pizza if we haven't booked a table even though we had a table and the pub was not that busy at about 20:30. Second time in this pub and staff were miserable 1st time aswell. Did get a pizza sat on the same table the first time though which was lovely. Anyway went down the road to The Albert which had a lovely landlord who cooked my missus a portion of chips free of charge as the kitchen was closed.

Great food but service not upto scratch, we went in on a wednesday night and it was so busy! Not enough staff to keep customers happy! Bless them they were running around like headless chickens. Get more staff guys!

They offer really tasty pizza baked in a proper pizza, stone oven. I especially recommend the pulled brisket and pesto one. Very nice atmosphere but it get's easily crowded and if a game is on the telly, it gets very loud very quickly.

Good food, very busy for a Wednesday evening. Would be better if the food was served on hot plates and for all dishes to be served together as we had to seek out staff to get missing dish.

Absolutely incredible food today..Dan the chef and crew are just incredible.. Probably the best roast I've had Hats off to Ash and the crew also for running a smooth ship and creating a great atmosphere

Pizza's used to be great a few years ago but quite disappointing now. Have also tried the Mac and cheese and tater tots and they both lacked flavour. It tends to be busy or lack staff and that can mean a wait at the bar to order.

Visited many times as they do lovely gluten free pizzas and pots. On the last visit however they had no gluten free pizza bases or the pot which was chosen and this hadn't been publicised. Recent visit was even more disappointing as they have changed their gluten free bases. So small and dry I was immediately offered a refund.

The tacos are nice if somewhat overpriced , £7 for two tiny tacos is a little much. The beef taco with salsa Verde was more herb oil and a little gristle than anything else

Im usually very positive about pubs in general, but this place misses manymarks. Menus are out, but no food being served, happed around 5 times. Beer they serve from brewpoint is pretty aweful Their pizzas and roast are pretty good! They are often missing half their taps They say they shut at 11 but ive been kicked out at 10.30 many times. As a venue it is lovely, but they need better beer and to be more honest with their opening times and kitchen being open.

Had a selection of pizzas with my friends. Really tasty & freshly cooked to order.

Slow service, slow food delivery, only half of the pizza has the toppings on it, menu a bit too cool for its own good (no chips or wedges on the side?!), decor is starting to fray at the edges. Still a nice vibe though

In for dinner with some friends on Friday night. Unsurprisingly given the time of year the pub was rammed with two large Christmas Parties so we were warned there would be a bit of a wait on the food. No drama, we were eating within 30 minutes of ordering and the food as delicious. A brilliant evening as always.

I’ll start by saying that’s not very Hitchin’y.. Upon arriving at 8pm and securing a table, we approached the bar with empty stomachs and full bank accounts - With the soul intention of exchanging hard earned money for sustenance. Despite the kitchen closing at 9:15 we were informed that they couldn’t take any more orders, the smell of I can’t be arse started to wreak from the kitchen. (Didn’t even look like it’s was that busy in the kitchen) I couldn’t convince a transaction. We alas sit here unsatisfied - devoid of pizza…..

I've always had a lot of time for the Radcliffe, but the pizzas are getting a bit silly. There's so little on top of the base it's literally just a disk of cooked dough. I know times are hard, prices going up, etc. But if you're not going to make a decent pizza, just don't take my money.

One of the best pizzas in town ! The staff was kind of steep but never mind. I would recommend it if you’re in Hitchin.

One of my favourite pubs in Hitchin. The closest you can get to Italian style pizza in the UK and locally sourced beers (both craft and real ales). I've been many times for both food and drinks and always had a great time!

It's been a while since I was last here but it was sadly very disappointing. The dining area was very cold and the service was really poor, although the pizza was nice (despite them not having spinach). Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend

We had been looking to visit this place for a while and finally got round to it last week and were not disappointed. There were two of us so we decided to share a pepperoni pizza and 3 beer bites consisting of mushroom shawarma soft tacos, tater tots with braised brisket and mango & chilli chicken wings. Everything was really good. We seriously underestimated the portion sizes so couldn't eat everything and ended up taking some home. We'll know for next time because we'll definitely be back.

I don't like pizza much but the wife loves it. I have to say it was the best pizza I've ever had. Beat Italy (rome) hands down for flavour size and cooked to perfection!!! I'd travel from watford (home) to hitchen just for these pizzas

Lovely place to go and eat or just drink! The pizza is delicious and the mac& cheese to die for! Drinks are pricey, but I suppose it is similar in most nice places in Hitchin.

Thé pizzas here really are top notch… the bar manager, Ash, was really welcoming and accommodating. Had a great evening with my family.

Met here with a group. We had a selection of the full menu to order from as we were a large group (mainly pizzas). I shared a pizza with a friend, which was nice fully topped. However I feel if having a whole pizza(which was quite large) it would be cold by the time of finishing. Would of liked a side with it. I found parking hard, had to park up a side road, as no parking was obvious.

I've been visiting the Rad too often recently! The food's excellent and very affordable, freshly made and quickly served. The staff are the best – relaxed, friendly and super-helpful. Fab place for informal meetings too – couldn't be better.

2nd time having a bad experience at this pub, I guess now it's definitely a no return for me. Literally 40 mins waiting for my food. And they changed the gluten-free pizza recipe which is not as great as it used to. Also what is up with the 2 for 1 pizza deal it's only available if you eat at the pub and not for take away? I actually considered ordering the pizzas and putting them in my own boxes to take them home 🤦‍♀️ Second time, it makes no sense. The first time it was their bad online ordering system, when I literally was sitting at the pub, just frustrating

Waited 45 minutes for my order, they ignored my partner when she went to ask where the food was. Gluten free base was spongey. Porkin tall didn't seem to have alot of pork.

I personally found the service to be very poor, staff served pushy customers first before those already waiting and were quite rude. A staff member, I belive it may have been the manager, also walked away halfway through surving me without any warning or explanation. From what I have seen, it feels like this pub struggels to cope with busy times which means the service suffers. Plenty of other great pubs in Hitchin, would recommend trying one of those.

We came for bottomless pizza and had to be rolled out. The shredder was definitely a winner but all pizzas were delicious. We've been before and can also attest to the chicken wings being fantastic! Staff are always very friendly and welcoming too.

Their pizzas are kind of famous and they back it up. Cooked to absolute perfection. Thin and crispy with plenty of black charcoal on the base. And fantastic value for money. Would highly recommend.

Still one of the best locals. Pizzas are great and the menu is updated regularly. Monday 2 4 1 deal is a no brainer. Also, one of the rarest places where I can find a stout on draught that is not from the famous Irish brand.

Good beer and the food was amazing. However this pub seems to identify more as a children's day nursery when I visited. Lots of toddlers running about and screaming with a complete lack of parenting from the hipsters. Whilst family pubs are welcomed, the lack of parenting ruined my experience of this pub.

I visited the Radcliffe for the first time for lunch last Friday with my brother who moved to Hitchin from London in the summer and appears to have become a "regular" on his way from the station after work and for Sunday lunch, and I was very impressed by the food, drink, service and atmosphere. Great pizzas and pots, and lovely starters and desserts.

"Sorry we are fully booked" when we asked for food and the whole place was dead. Was our first visit. Won't be back.

Food’s great, vibe great, local beers, what’s not to like. Nice and warm because of the pizza oven, which is a nice feature. Tables could do with a new top layer of varnish, they’ve become a bit sticky.

We had a great Friday night in this bar/restaurant. There was a great atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. The pizza’s were delicious and very well made. I’ll definitely be back.

We got to the pub early and just had drinks. We then ordered two pizzas about an hour later. My partner had a Toni with extra olives and I had a Margot with extra chillies. Both pizzas were delicious. The mozzarella was in abundance and there were plenty of chillies. The chef had put extra olives on the Toni but also extra garlic cloves. The prices are reasonable at the pub too. The only thing I would say is that they now have fried chicken on the menu and as it is an open kitchen, the smell of the fryers permeates the restaurant which is a little off putting.

Very lucky to have this as my local boozer. Solid selection of beers and great pizzas.
