I arrived at this very pretty tearoom after a wet walk so was looking very bedraggled but nevertheless was warmly welcomed by Rachel and she could not have been more helpful. The tea was excellent and plentiful, and there was a magnificent array of cakes, the only problem was which one to choose! I settled on the coffee and walnut, which was superb. I shall definitely visit again!

What an absolute gem of a place. Always spotlessly clean with wonderful attention to detail and just fabulous food. Everything home baked/cooked that morning by Rachel herself and outstanding value for money. Add to that the fact that you get the warmest welcome and the best cheese scones I’ve ever tasted, and Rachel’s Walnut Cottage Tea Rooms is well worth a detour on your journey no matter where you’re going! Come once and I guarantee you’ll return.

It was so lovely to meet you both on Sunday. My dear friends, Valerie and Howard told me about your delightful tea room and delicious cakes and I insisted we visited straight away! Well, my expectations were definitely met and I had the most divine Victoria sponge and Howard was kind enough to share his cream tea with me which was also gorgeous....such a light, flavoursome fruit scone . It is so rare to find actual "home made" cakes and it's only a shame I live 200 miles away!xx

Excellent tea room serving tea, coffee, soup, jackets and the most delicious array of scones and cakes. Rachel bakes everything fresh to be served that day - the perfect Mother's Day treat for my mum, who enjoyed a latte and a wonderful cheese scone, while I loved my tea and delightful chocolate cake. From 30 March 2024 Huggate will be served by East Yorkshire Wolds Bus 200 on Saturdays and Sundays from Pocklington. The village is on the Wolds Way Hessle to Filey footpath, and the tearoom is justly popular with walkers and in-the-know locals. I'm already planning our next visit - it's that good!

Such a friendly welcome and beautiful tearoom, a massive selection of cake, we all had something different and definitely enjoyed them all so much so we had to refrain from having more, but we will definitely be back.

I can confidently say that this is the best tea room I have ever been to! Everything was just perfect - from the superb fresh home made cakes, scones and light lunches to the warm welcome that Rachel and her husband Ken gave it. The tea room itself was so cosy and inviting, from the gorgeous cuckoo clock and the fire to the door handles made out of spoons! There is no doubt that Rachel has put her heart and soul into this amazing place. Thank you for making us feel so at home - we will be back!

Came here with my mum and brother (wheelchair user) after reading another review to say it was accessible. Loved it! The warmest welcome when arriving, the biggest menu of amazing home made cakes, I had the soup of the day too broccoli and Stilton with the softest bread bun ever! Great value for money and even had a accessible toilet too. Whilst we were there it was very popular with cyclists, and everyone received the same welcome. Such a lovely spot!

This is probably the nicest tea room we've ever been to! We had a fabulous welcome from Rachel and Ken and I had the best scone (date and walnut of course) ever! Everything is baked fresh daily with local produce and there are V, vegan and GF options available too. Tea is served in China cups and tea pots and everyone was so friendly. The facilities are five star too. It's closed Weds and Thursday's and open 11am to 4pm all other days. There is limited parking and there's cycle parking on site. Highgate is a pretty Yorkshire Wold village with lovely walks. Enjoy!

This tea room is just lovely. Rachel is very friendly and has all the necessary requirements for you to feel safe. There is a one way system, hand sanitiser on every table and a book to write your name and number; with pens that are sanitised after use. The tables and chairs are also wiped between customers. All the cakes and scones are freshly baked and are delicious and the teapots don't spill. Most of the offerings are sweet, except the cheese scones and the toasted teacakes; which are both delicious.I can't recommend it enough!

What a find! Just finished a lovely walk on the hottest day of the year and was looking for some refreshments when we spotted a sign saying tea room. The tea garden was perfect. Set up safely with everything needed during the current situation to enjoy lovely homemade cakes and drinks without worrying. Everything is served in delightful China even the delicious local ice cream came in a china teacup. We couldn’t fault anything and our hostess obviously enjoyed serving everyone, she was so warm and welcoming On the lawn were some renovated tractors. What a superb feature it made for young and old to have a look at. Can’t wait to return and enjoy the hospitality and food at this wonderful place.

The tea room has geared up for Covid - spotless, well-organised, and very thorough in keeping guests reassured and safe. The tea room occupies the conservatory and back garden of a cottage on the main small street running through Huggate in the Yorkshire Wolds. Excellent friendly service with lovely bone china tea pots and cups. There is a menu of cakes and scones - all very nicely done and hygienically served. They hope to expand the offering soon. The garden is south facing so a wonderful sun trap with a view of restored tractors and a sleeping cat. Very popular with cyclists, walkers and the cognoscenti. You can ring and book a table if you are worried about getting a table. Understandably popular but still not crowded. Excellent all round. We will be back.

It was our intention to have a light lunch, but this venue is primarily a tea shop. However we decided to have the cheese scones and one piece of the excellent selection of cakes. We were made most welcome, good food and the tea was hot. We all enjoyed our light lunch and we will be back when next in the area.

We had completed a walk in the Huggate area. Towards the end of the walk into the village saw we a sign for the tea room and sought it out. The host Rachel was most welcoming and duly supplied us with a hot drink and cheese scone each with a chilli chutney. The scone was divine. Rachel also makes her own cakes which looked great and I’m sure would have tasted delicious. They were certainly mouthwatering just looking at them. The tea room is in a conservatory which had a lovely warm ambience in November as the sun beamed in. There is also outside seating available. Well worth a pit stop if you are walking or cycling in the area.

Half way around our Wolds cycling route we called into Walnut Cottage Tea Room to see my friend Rachel and Ken (my first visit). Well what a fantastic tea room, fresh homemade scones, with homemade jams and chutneys. One of the BEST cafes I’ve visited, and a good price for the standard of food and service. We didn’t want to leave. I think the Yorkshire Lass Cycling Club has found a gem of a place to stop when cycling the Wolds, we will make sure our routes always incorporate Rachel’s tea room. Watch out Rachel, 30 of us will be coming in next Sunday!

Met friends in huggate on the 30th April and did a 6 mile circular walk. Very pleasant walk. Our friends had to rush off to pick grandchildren up. We were gasping for a cuppa. As we drove out of the village we saw the signs for Rachel's tea rooms. We drove in. What a find! The tea room is in the conservatory on the side of main house. We sat down and ordered tea and cake. Rachel said we'd have to choose what we wanted and took us into the farmhouse kitchen. Again WOW! On the table were several homemade cakes, what a choice! We chose ginger cake, it was amazing! There is a good choice on the menu. This tea room is amazing, and is run by a lovely lady(Rachel). If you are anywhere near, call in. Be warned it gets busy on a weekend. You can call in and have anything engraved as Rachel's husband is a silversmith and engraver. I cannot recommend this tea room enough. Will be calling back in the future.

Called in at lunch time with two friends following a walk to have a drink/cake. Situated in this delightful small Wolds Village at the private rear of Walnut Cottage there is a very pleasant conservatory with the delightful owner Rachel serving homemade cakes & drinks. We all had the fresh scones with butter, thick cream & raspberry jam. We all agreed the scones were the best we had tasted. The coffee was also good quality & one of us was supplied with his favourite Earl Grey tea. This small local cafe was very clean & modern in a lovely private setting.

What a treat! Stumbled across Rachel’s Walnut Cottage tea room on a chilly afternoon out and what a find! We were warmly greeted by the owner, Rachel who was so welcoming and friendly. There was a great choice of cakes, with scones and toasted tea cakes on offer too (as well as a good choice of ice cream). We had scones (homemade and fresh) with jam and clotted cream, they were delicious. Tea was plentiful and served in a pretty china pot with china cups and saucers. The price was very reasonable too. We were looking for somewhere dog friendly for lunch after our visit to Wandahome in South Cave. The owners were really welcoming and it was nice and cosy inside on a cold day with the fires lit. As it was a Sunday we opted for the Sunday Roast. It was a tough choice though because the menu is fantastic! The drinks menu is equally as good as the food menu too. The food came out in good time and was one of the best roasts I’ve had in a long time! We managed to squeeze in some deserts and can definitely recommend the chocolate brownie and the sticky toffee pudding. Service was excellent and our pup got lots of fuss too. If you’re in the area and are looking for great food and drink in a lovely atmosphere, then this is your place! You won’t be disappointed.

We stumbled across this little gem on a Saturday late afternoon. Fabulous pint of Marmalade Porter followed by a gastronomic extravaganza of small plates…..all amazing! So good we cancelled Sunday lunch plans and are returning today! We have eaten at Michelin starred places on many occasion and this food is right up there but in a relaxed environment and very reasonable. We have found our new fave place for our visits to the east coast and will struggle to go anywhere else now. Would highly recommend 🙏
