Rabbie Burns Fish & Chips in South Ayrshire

Popped in for a haggis supper and some Irn Bru. The haggis was delicious and one of the best I've had. It nicely moist and not over seasoned. Whilst I ate I watched the sun set and chatted for a few minutes to two little kids who were very friendly. Their parent(s) were very relaxed about it.

Visited yesterday 6th September . You couldn't get any better a location. Just perfect 👌. We found the service to be fantastic. All staff - the young man and ladies were absolutely lovely and were especially good to our little pooch Mitzi who was very hot. They ensured she had plenty water and we had everything we needed. The fish and chips very nice (not too greasy and piping hot 😋great value for money. Would highly recommend.👍

Bought two fish suppers for eating in the car. Cooked to order so piping hot and tasted great. Price comparable with other chippys.

Sent first fish and chips back fish looked like it had been recooked a few times second lot was swimming in oil the batter was an awful grey colour fish full of bones ended up in the bin nearly £18 down the drain what a disappointment sorry I hate doing bad reviews as we have always had first class fish and chips from here I think it has changed owners since then though won't be back again

Ordered fish and chips. The fish was ok, the chips were soggy. Customer service is very bad. They forgot to give an ordered drink, when asked for it later became very rude and ignorant. While eating outside I saw one of the chefs smoking right outside the front door, not wearing overall.

Visiting ayr thought wee would try this chip shop. Sorry wee did worst chip shop we have been too.chips were greasy & left after taste. Sausage supper wasn't good. Gravy was good. We didn't think it was good value. Better chip shops in town

Was going to go in and get chips for my son but the cook was outside smoking and spitting so avoided the place like the plague

Bought 2 fish suppers and a kids sausage and chips. 1 of the fish the batter was burnt, brittle and inedible as a whole the food was bland and far too greasy which resulted in the chips all clumping together. Poor quality produce poorly prepared and cooked. The food was that bad I am giving it a zero star rating. Needless to say this the last I will be eating at this "restaurant".

Invited to sit in with family dog, we were made to feel very welcome, doggie enjoyed a complimentary nugget and my son was given a couple of sweets, staff were very friendly and attentive and our food was delicious and good value, definitely be back next time in Ayr.

Had saus, chips and gravy from here. Sat on benches out front with lovely views to eat them the portion size was quite big. I wrapped a sausage up and ate it later. Was very nice

This was a terrible chippy. Fish was so bland and mushy. Tasted frozen. The brown sauce sachets that you had to BUY were out of date?! And the steak pie supper was vile. Wouldn't eat here again for free.

Fish dry and bland. Ordered special fish supper and was given battered fish and when queried was told they had run out of breadcrumbs!! also brown sauce out of date. Hate leaving bad reviews but they need to do better if they want repeat custom.

We enjoy coming to Ayr for a fish supper and call into Rabbies for our favourites. We visited a few weeks back and the fish and chips etc was all cooked fresh, we sat outside on the benches and it was brilliant. So nice, hot fresh and crispy. Unfortunately though we called in the other evening and got served very quickly as the fish, chips and sausages were already cooked. We took them away to the seafront and upon opening found soggy batter and pale looking. Brilliant place and I know it can be busy but we would prefer to wait next time I think for fresher crispy coated fish. We will visit again though and check first. Hence the 3 stars this time.

Really poor experience here. Fish was probably off, definitely borderline anyways and tasted horrible. Plus the hp brown sauce packets they sold us went out of date more than 6 months ago. Also we ordered special fish suppers and they apparently didn’t have any breadcrumbs but never bothered telling us, so they just put it through as a regular fish suppers and charged us anyways

Very run down looking interior, a shame as it’s situated in a great area for a fish and chip shop business. Food was very average, cost extra for sauces. Girls behind the counter had no manners at all, if that was me I would be sacked instantly, no wonder the place is always empty.

Cash Only for Starters, Fish was dry, Only do fish fingers for kids not proper fish, Condiments cost extra. Next visit to Ayr, I'll be avoiding here.

Visited this lovely fish & chip shop when I was in Ayr recently and thought it was great. Good value for money with good portion size and not greasy at all. Staff were lovely and welcoming as my partner and I sat in to enjoy our food. Lovely and clean and not far from the beach also. Huge thumbs up 👍 Will be back soon.

Arrived 2 hours before “closing time” which is 10pm apparently and they were closed! Let down

Terrible.Used the sit in,ordered a battered sausage supper and curry sauce.chips were not really warm, sausages had a skinny amount of batter but were warm,curry sauce was cold and a bottle of coke.£9.20 gave the girl the 80 p change out of a ten,just for staying awake long enough to serve me the dross set in front of me and in a cardboard box,really need to give up the sit in mate,no good.No plates, no knifes,no forks and don’t forget to clean your table after you ,super table service (haha). Do yourselves a favour walk on by,don’t give this place the time of day.plenty of other chippies near by will gladly have your custom.ps wondered why the place was empty,now I know the reason.

Decent wee chippy nice fish & chips

Very disappointed in the chips as they where hard over cooked or old one of the two, fish could of been introduced to more batter, no mushy peas or baked beans at 16.00 hrs, oh well never mind.

Passed Rabbie Burns Fish bar whilst on a day out during our week long holiday in Scotland. Hubby fancied a bag of chips so went inside while I waited outside with our 2 chihuahuas. The owners invited us inside to eat them and gave our dogs a drink of water and some chicken nuggets. The chips freshly cooked and lovely and crispy. I was blown away by the friendliness of the owners. Would recommend. 👍

Come to visit Family in Scotland and found ourselves at this amazing Fish and Chip shop. The food was incredible and delicious, staff was very nice and polite and will definitely be returning!

The chips and curry is the worst I've ever had, but the staff were really nice, so 3 stars for that.

2 stars are for the chips and deffinatley not for customer service, so rude. Young girl at front counter had no manners at all.

It was quite a que ..steak pie were overcooked ..I had the chips they were really nice ...but for 3 bags chips and 2 single pies ..I only got short change from 15.00 then I had to pay 30p for tomato sauce.

Cook was chomping on food, counter assistant was handling customers food with hands..Very hygienic (not).

Called in today, bought 3 lot's of chips and curry sauce. They were reheated chips, or they certainly tasted like it! We had the smallest portion of chips ever, not even enough for my 10 year old daughter. And I heard a guy, the owner I persume, telling the staff to go easy on the portion size 😂. That amused me a lot, as i dont think it was possible to give less! The bottom of the chip box was barely covered!! We had to call at McDonald's an hour later as we were all starving. So a hand full of cold, dry chips for £13! Certainly won't be going back again!!

Not bad little place by the beach front and the price was really cheap as well! Hopefully will return in the future!

The chips were not that bad but the Fish was tasteless - the sausages were pink mush covered in batter - for a seaside fish and chip shop it was very disappointing - "won't be using them again 👎

Although I waited a while the staff were friendly and gladly explained they were short staffed and had just reopened, COVID friendly and delicious food!

Categorically the worst fish ever!!! Both fish and chips were cold. Fish was dry and overcooked. Chips could have been nice if hot. £6.90 - daylight robbery. We should have returned them.

Visited Ayr for a few hours on the way down the west coast and fancied a fish and chip lunch at the coast.Really surprised to read the bad reviews, as we found it very Covid safe and the food was great...Will visit again when in the area.

Cash only payments during a pandemic isn’t the best but this chippy doesn’t take card! Staff are really abrupt, borderline rude and unhelpful. Ordered a buttered roll and told there was none left, to then see a customer 4/5 behind me order one and get it? Fish was tasteless and didn’t seem fresh at all, mushy peas weren’t nice and very watery; more of a dip to be honest. Very very pricey for the food served, would avoid if you can there are better places nearby.

Worked up an appetite walking on the beach and thoroughly enjoyed fish and chips here. The host allowed us in with our friends small dog - even gave her a sausage! Very friendly despite the restrictions.

I’d walk a bit further and get a better fish & chips. It was edible but the chips were reheats or looked and tasted like them. The fish more dirty coloured batter and grease and the sausage was extremely greasy. The girl also drowned them in vinegar. The girl who served us was pleasant but there were about 8 members of staff behind the counter half with masks half without. We should have known then to walk out.

Lovely crisp batter on loads of haddock. Golden crispy chips. Really glad we stopped here for lunch. Amazing value for money and friendly staff.

Well if I could give a no score I would ...... not everyone who entered were a mask even though counter staff did . We thought because if the queue food was good ...how wrong we were Ordered and waited twenty give minutes to have our number called Fish was. A fillet cut in half and full of bone and soggy greasy batter Chips anemic and again greasy and curry sauce was like water The fish fingers that came with the childs meal were also greasy and the filling in them grey and crumbly . We also ordered two baps .....they were not given to us my husband went back for them and was questioned after being ignored for 5 minutes if we had already collected our order .the counter assistance was beyond rude Awful food awful.service

Only chip shop in my life I’ve had to pay extra for tomato or brown sauce. Surprised they didn’t charge for the salt and vinegar.

This place is brilliant the fish and chips are just like I remember and really fresh too my grand kids had chicken nuggets and it was better that mcdonalds kfc and fresher so so good would defo be back

Got myself and family fish suppers from here although they were cooked fresh it was the worst I've ever had , fish and chips was think with grease and the fish was thin and full of bones I took fish back and asked if there fish was ment to have bones to he told they dont know they just cook what there given so thats why they dont advertise as boneless fish as some have bones and some dont this is the worst answer to give a customer as to they just cook what there given so.more or less they dont know where it's from or what there cooking will never be back

Pretty sub standard fish and chips. Got 2 x haddock and large chips with an extra 2 sausages and it came to over 16 pounds which seemed expensive..portions small

What's not to love. Fish and chips by the sea

Food wasn't great, greasy and not particularly hot. Also they dont have a card machine, so if you dont have cash on you you have to pay £1.75 to use the cash machine next door. Not impressed. Doubt I'll be back.

I was attacked by seagulls outside, but I had was good.

Weren't very nice when we asked if they take card payments. Quite rude about it.

Popped into this Chippy for a quick Fish supper for lunch, It was very quiet so thought we have fresh fish here, NO, although it was cooked fresh is was over cooked and the fish slices were very thin and a bit greasy, chips were tasty but a bit greasy. Service was very good, nice tables if you chose to sit in, we took out and had to take notice of the signs Feed the Bins Not the Gulls, they were everywhere. Dissapointed with the experiance and just have to wonder how further quality would suffer if the buisness was busy.

My Girlfriend and I stopped of Ayr to take a few photos. We seen the Big Bout out in the sea on the way in on our journey Troon, Prestwick and Ayr. The closer we got to Ayr the more you could see of it. A few people were sitting in their car looking out at the sea watching the Big boat. So here are a few photos I took of it. We visited today with our two children and bought two kids meals, a steak pie and half pizza supper. The chips where absolutely delicious, just what you would expect from a chip shop. The pizza however was absolutely greasy, it was clearly not given enough time to drain as the grease was all over the place. My husband enjoyed his steak pie and the kids enjoyed their sausage suppers. The kids suppers had two much chips if we had knew the size of the portion we would have just bought a normal supper for them to share. There is seating inside the chip shop which we preferred. Just a little bit bemused at the mess some people leave the tables in, staff should only have to wipe them but some had food and sauce scattered everywhere. There also wasn’t any chip shop sauce, ketchup and brown sauce could be purchased separately.We would return again however I don’t think I would get the pizza.

This is a lovely find staff are so friendly excellent service with a smile, they don't even mind you popping to the fish and chip shop and taking your food in to eat in there. They don't provide food which is why they alwow this

Lovely fish and chips we were given 2 fish each as they thought they were small. Friendly staff. There is a lovely green right in front with seats and picnic benches very handy.

I attended this cafe after promising my 4 year old daughter a fish supper by the sea. After parking the car immediately outside and being 9 months pregnant made my way to the rest of the car and exiting with my daughter. We made our way in the pouring rain from the car and whilst in the pavement, right in front of the door at 5.30pm on a Friday mid August evening, the lovely sales assistant looked directly at me and locked the door. I thought she must have been opening it as it was very apparent we were making our way there. However after trying the doors (glass) I observed the assistant with two “gentlemen”. After signalling they were closed my daughter and I returned to the car. I was really offended by this. It was obvious I was heavily pregnant, had just uncoupled my daughter from her car seat and was standing in the rain. Fair enough if they were closing however there was loads of food in the warmer still and they could at least have opened the door to speak to us rather than closing the door on us. Very disappointing! However we then made our way to Marcos nearby and the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our fabulous fish and sausage supper from there in the car by the sea.

Dropped in for dinner after everywhere else was closed. Between us we had: haggis supper, black pudding supper, fish supper and kids fish fingers supper. Big portions for the money and the haggis was lovely. Youngest loved the fish. Thumbs up.

Whilst visiting Ayr we decided to treat ourselves to fish and chips. There was a huge park with seating right outside so we chose this chip shop.This chips were good, but there wasn’t a huge amount of fish and a lot of batter. They were hot and tasty, but not the best I’ve had.

Visited on Sunday, and if I am honest it wasn't great!

A favourite of mine for years this is the best fish and chip take away in the town of Ayr, located next to the low green and the County Buildings, seating nearby if the weather suits you to eat outside.
