Queens Head in Woking

Shocking, despite buying all our drinks from here. We were accused by the barman of bringing in a drink (bottle of corona) accused us of not ordering it because he hasn’t served us it… (the corona had a lime in, as if we are going to turn up with a lime pre cut ready…) anyways, the barman preceded to Interrogate us… we then explained that we bought everything from there and to check with everyone who works behind the bar first before making accusations. He then said, the only persons could be was the manager… (who had left at this point) so the guy then calls him in front of us, on speaker! Of course the manager answered saying he had sold us the corona. Guess what, the Barman didn’t even apologise for the false accusations, just went, “its last orders”… As someone who also works in the service industry, this is the perfect example of how NOT to provide customer service. Note: Barman had tattoos, piercing, black hair, around 30-40 ish.

Not sure if we’re just out of touch but slightly mystified at £9.30 for a Guinness and a bottle of coke

I needed somewhere to have a coffee in Byfleet, before I went to tutor a new pupil nearby and 'The Queens Head' in Byfleet was the perfect stop-off. The bar lady was very helpful when I asked for assistance regarding the wi-fi for my laptop and the coffee was great.

I've thought long and hard about leaving this review, but I feel that the events of the evening need airing to warn anyone with an allergy or dietary requirement to take great care eating here. First I want to say how lovely, friendly and professional the bar tender and servers and waiters are. And that is why I was reluctant to share this. But given the potentially serious consequences that could have arisen, I feel the need. The Queens Head is known locally for its sausage menu! But as a strict veggie veering towards vegan that's not always a good thing. However there are vegan/veggie choices on the meaty menu. First I enquired about the vegan burger - described as a Mountain Burger? But what does that mean, is it made of rocks?? No-one knew for sure but they could make a guess? Not good enough sorry, I want to know if I am getting pavement pizza burgers or a real handcrafted creation. Not wishing to hold things up, I ordered the Vegan sausages, creamy mash, vegan gravy and peas. My friend ordered some pork sausages and mash and meaty gravy. In due course the waiter arrived with two plates and asked who was having peas. That was me. But the sausages on the plate with peas were clearly very meaty sausages and not vegan. The other plate had no peas and fairly ordinary looking sausages. I queried whether the sausages with the peas were vegan and the waiter was puzzled and perplexed and clearly did not know. He was very professional but clearly not sure, so he went to check taking both plates with him. A few minutes later the barman appeared, very apologetic, that they had a new chef and had run out of vegan sausages???? So what was on my plate?? That was not discussed, but my guess was that the 'new chef' had substituted my vegan cumberland sausages with real cumberland sausages. I wish I could use emojis here. Puking face would do it. I do not eat meat. Eating meat to me is like eating a baby, or a puppy or a kitten. To me it is disgusting. I have to zone out of other people eating meat around me. But I do expect a chef or an eating establishment to respect my dietary requirements. You do not know why someone is vegetarian or vegan. And for many of us it is a life style not a fad and a deeply held belief. I realise it is not an allergy, or at least it's not an allergy for me. I know it is my choice. But it is my choice. And you do not offer a vegan (or anyone else) PORK sausages as a substitute when you run out of vegan. If I wasn't so savvy - I've been veggie/vegan for 40+ years I might have just thought it was a good meat lookey likey, but I am not stupid. The thought of nearly eating them turns my stomach. And sorry, but I don't care if the chef is on his first shift, that would have been his last shift if I was in charge. If and I realise it is a big if, if I had an allergy and I had been given something that contained my allergen then this could have been fatal. Sobering but very important. So, instead I was offered Beetroot Falafel with goats cheese, which arrived with Brie instead and was three TINY falafels with salad for £14/£15. It was very nice, but a very small portion and I went home hungry. We might have stayed for dessert but it was quiz night and it was very loud and intrusive. I know that my review may seem harsh, but it needs to be said.

What a great find! We grabbed one of the last spaces in the car park which is small. The pub was relatively busy for 7pm on an August Monday but it was quiz night. We originally just popped in for a drink but the atmosphere was so chilled and the food smelled so good. Great menu with lots of choice and I wasn't frowned on for ordering loaded fries as a main. The food was tasty and good value for money, especially in this area. Only minor moan (and it is minor) is that the chips were so fat! The staff were so friendly. Can't fault the place and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Very friendly 'local' with lots of regulars having lunch. Just dropped in for a beer filling time before an appointment with the dog groomer. After several "dog friendly" visits where i ate my lunch on the middle table by the window on the west side of the restaurant with my dog Buster sitting next to me with his leash on the radiator valve, on this occasion Ross barman, who was in charge told me that i couldn't take Buster into the restaurant as people were eating. No one has ever objected as Buster is very calm and friendly. Guess i need to find a more "dog friendly" pub where i can sit where i want. Sorry Vicky you never pushed back. Ross apologised and told me it wasn't personal, but after more than a year of lunching there - with and without the dog I felt unwelcome and somewhat humiliated. Sat near the door to the car park and the door to the toilets. Not the best experience but Vicky very friendly and attentive. 2/5/24 dropped in for lunch again, no dog! Quite busy but found a table. Lunch was fine again. Changed to house red wine - perfectly acceptable!. Still like QH. Always locals having lunch. Good, friendly atmosphere. New girl Katie is super friendly.

My sister and I stayed at The Queen's Head last week while visiting our sister and family living nearby Our ensuite bedroom was perfect and our beds very comfortable We had access to the kitchen and enjoyed a light breakfast and endless cups of tea and coffee The bread was delicious We also enjoyed an excellent evening meal The owners and staff couldn't do enough for us Thanks to Vicky Steve and David we will be back again

A very limited menu for lunch . food was average, but for what is is rather expensive. A good bar .Staff were friendly and welcoming Would not come her again to eat but fine for just a drink. More spit and sawdust rather than upmarket

Used to do a great Sunday roast but sadly it seems to have changed hands and it’s a pretty bleak offering. Every thing seems to be frozen and the roast potatoes were very dry.

Good local pub with decent selection of ales, lagers & gins. Playground and south- facing garden, great for early evening in the sun. Good food too.

Popped in today after completing a walk of the Basingstoke Canal on our way to the train station. Friendly pub, service from the barman was amazing. Even walking an elderly customer to his ride home. Highly recommend the ice cream to. Shame its not my local

Booked a table but at 6pm the bar was filled with people nearly drunk and being so loud. No menus on the table , no staff to greet us. Staff too busy serving more beer to the locals. Went elsewhere. A pub not a restaurant

Just had fish and chips fish £15.00 was a gray colour and smelled nasty left it and went home I’ve been there before and it’s been fine but not today 🤮

As the weather wasn't good we decided that we would stay local and go to the Queens Head. We were warmly greeted by a charming lady who looked after us extremely well. Both the beer,food, and coffee were excellent. May we pass on our thanks to the staff member who deserves praise. From Ray,Rosemary, and our dog Susie April 3rd @ 12noon.

It's really refreshing to go to a family run pub. I been on a few occasions and what struck me most was their care and compassion. There are often older people there at lunchtime with family or alone and the staff take the time to give them a warm welcome and any extra support needed. It make me sad to think soon family pubs will be few and far between and the extra personal touch will be lost. Great homemade food and hospitality A++

Went here for the first time today to meet a friend who was staying here, the staff here were lovely, friendly, and welcoming. The food was really good at reasonable prices and it does seem a very popular place to visit for food and drinks as it became quite busy later on in the day. I will definitely be going back again for a meal with family and friends and definitely recommend to anyone looking for good food at a lovely friendly pub.

Great pub, very friendly, helpful and efficient bar staff. In my camper and allowed me to stay at short notice. Good beer selection, eclectic & good background music. Didn't get a handle on the menu, coz I was late but looked good. Probably (and only guessing) a great local but also a place to eat in a locals but friendly atmosphere.

A warm welcome, tables ready and nicely grouped, enthusiastic, friendly, efficient & professional service, superb well kept ales and great pub grub freshly cooked and served to our large group together, all at reasonable prices. This is how it should be done; these people know how to run a pub with food & what fabulous folks they were. Top notch - do go.

Excellent establishment in traditional English pub style. Great range of well kept ales.

We last visited some time ago before an apparent partial renovation. Service friendly and efficient. Comfortable, clean and roomy. We enjoyed the chef's special pasta and a pudding,,, a waffle and a crumble. Good value and good food and beer. No WOW factor but no weaknesses.

Very warm welcome & friendly staff. Great Sunday lamb roast dinner, quality & quantity very good & the best Yorkshire pudding in Surrey. Can't wait to return for the Turkey roast. Highly recommended.

Good food good beer, what else is there?

This hidden gem of a pub never fails to deliver on the food, drink and friendliness of staff. We struggle to eat out peacefully with our two young children but we always feel comfortable at this pub. There is a great play area outside for the kids to run around and make new friends. Our little girl has a medical condition and the lovely bar lady with red hair always tailor's for her needs. Ross is always buzzing around making sure we are always ok. Great pub that I would highly recommend.

The Queen’s Head is really suited for smokers only. Having rushed our way through the front door as the smokers were congregated outside, we sat at a table and had to listen to the barman speaking to a customer who obviously had had enough to drink. The barman then took his roll up outside whilst on duty. Such a shame.

Shame. Food here used to be great, really disappointed with 2 roasts. Chicken dry, really basic stuff, inedible. Returned it and lots of ??? around refund. I simply said charge gif veg, toast potatoes aren’t touched as not nice. My beef was cooked really well, lovely but didn’t enjoy any of the veg. Ordered mash as a side due to 2 small roast potatoes, arrived after we’d finished and was unrecognisable as mash and all little bubbles on the top. Shame

Pleasant enough pub, staff were friendly and the drinks selection ample. Garden and parking available and the facilities were all clean.

We were in the area working. Needed somewhere for some dinner and Google led us here. I ended up having several of the best pints of Guinness I’ve had in a while. It was well looked after and we’ll poured. Credit to the lad who poured it. Who also helped us out charging my phone and telling us some wonderfully inappropriate jokes. He was a good man. I had smoked brisket for dinner and it was very good indeed. Should I find myself in the area again. I won’t hesitate to visit again. Highly recommended. Great atmosphere, beer and food.

We couldn't recommend this pub enough. We called in because we were staying in the area. The food, Guinness and coffee were excellent. The staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough for us as strangers.

Great selection of beers and ales. Good food, and One pleasant smiley bar maid. The others need to up their game and 😀. Oh they have a great selection of ice creams for the big n little kids. Family friendly pub. One, if not the best pub in the area.

Fair to say I'm a regular here popping in for a few libations after an evening of cycling on a Thursday. It does excellent value pub grub and has a good selection of beers. We are always well looked after by Darcy and Ross. Well worth a visit.

Family lunch phoned ahead for policy on bringing our dog..... fully dog friendly and they provide a water bowl. Excellent all round. Would fully recommend.

Perfectly good food; lovely drinks, n helpful staff; good Sunday Roasts; amazing sausage n mash options, and good selection of ice cream(gelato!). No bowls for takeaway gelato, so twas cones or mothing. Will be returning.

A warm welcome from excellent staff sets the scene for an enjoyable visit. Nothing was too much trouble. Food excellent, especially the steak. We were in the bar area as we had two dogs with us and they got treats and a drink! There ia also a restaurant proper serving the same fine food. Highly recommended.

Went out to the pub for Mother's Day although crowded the food was served up in a reasonable time and was really nice.

Last minute booking for 10 people on a Saturday night no problem. Food was fantastic standard pub menu with a specials menu too. Staff behind the bar were both fantastic with excellent senses of humour and very welcoming. A great night out! Well worth visiting if you are local to Byfleet. Great car parking too.

Food was great, they happily adapt what we ordered, chicken, chilli and tomato was lovely, really good sized portion. Mother loved her chicken and chips and by all accounts the jacket potato and chilli was excellent.

So lovely to find an "old school pub". Really nice staff. Really enjoyed the food. Great value. Hope to be back

Excellent pub! Came for an afternoon lunch and a few beers. The staff were exceptionally nice and the food was great. Could do with putting up more photos as the ones online don't do those juicy burgers justice!

Went to the Queens Head for a meal after a fishing trip. The food was excellent, large portions and reasonably priced. The barman/waiter was very friendly. Highly recommend this pub if looking for a good hot meal at a fair price. Nice pint of Guinness too.

Ordered 12 meals for a family gathering. All served at the same time and good pub food. My aunt fainted and staff were very helpful and caring.

Recommended by local people and rightly so. Great food, beautifully prepared. Attentive friendly staff in lovely surroundings. Good play area for children, nice garden area.

Country pub in Byfleet. The beer choice and quality was average. My pint was slightly beyond its sell by date. The menu looked reasonable, but i had already eaten. Comfortable and good decor, it also has a small car park.. Worth a visit if you are driving past.

Taken out to Sunday lunch by my son and his family after watching my granddaughter play 🏏 at Byfleet cricket club.The Queens Head does a fantastic Sunday roast , a choice of meats I think there is a vegetarian option too. Then it was followed by a wonderfully made icecream bought in with many many different flavours including bubble gum which my granddaughter enjoyed whilst I had my favourite Salted caramel 😋.

ROAST DINNER IN TWO WORDS BLINKING GORGEOUS. Highly recommended and good beer garden for all the family.

Came here for a Sunday roast and arrived at 4.30pm. We saw the barman outside who said hello and when I asked if they were still doing roasts, he said yes but the kitchen closed at 5pm so he advised ordering sooner rather than later. We ordered and I was a bit apprehensive that given it was not long till the kitchen closed, it might be luke warm and not very fresh food. I needn’t have worried as we were both served wonderful roast dinners, piping hot and every bit of it was delicious and just the right amount. There’s a nice atmosphere here, a few locals were in who all knew each other but you didn’t feel like an outsider who wasn’t welcome. Service was really friendly, football was on which was great for us and we would happily come back.

The car par and outside seating area overlooking the field and the children play area makes this place attractive to families and friends to meet, socialise and have fun any time of the year. And inside the tables are spaced out so people feel safe as they eat or drink. We had a party of 15 people, yet they managed to bring everything out quickly. Definitely visit again and recommend 💯

We popped in here for lunch on a Saturday and it was great. Friendly staff and some locals but not over busy. Drinks were nice and the food was good. Just what we expected and as I couldn’t eat all of mine they offered to wrap it for me to take away. Small car park at the back was useful. It had that old fashioned feel about it. No loud tv or music but a nice buzz. Would definitely visit again.
