It had been a long time since I had enjoyed a Balti after many great experiences in Birmingham. After last night delivery, I had to check whether my memory wasn't failing me. Sorry but what makes the base of the real McCoy is Onions, just like bread for a sandwich. The £13.95 dish I ordered was anything but a Balti.

I’ve been a few times and taken a group of friends, husband and family on various occasions. The food has always been delicious and freshly cooked. The mushroom rice was beautifully spiced and moorish. I also had the Goan Xcuti and although not perfectly authentic was still tasty. Service is very good, warm and attentive and you can take in your own alcohol. Jewel in the crown of Wanstead.

After 20 odd years, the place still looks like an old Indian restaurant well past its hey day. No competition since zainab went mental with its anti everyone menu. Personally I don’t know how anyone is still eating there. I don’t know how marks and Spencer’s manage. Food is bland,a bit greasy and average.

We ordered selection of vegetarian dishes for delivery this evening. I ordered early in the afternoon for 6pm delivery which was on time. But all the dishes tasted much the same, there was no depth of flavour, nothing interesting about the food at all. I cook a lot, and we seldom have takeaways - about 1 in 2 years - and this was supposed to be a treat for my birthday, but I can cook much better myself and with less mess to clear up. The naan bread was sweet, there seemed to be sugar in everything. The chutney was thin, possibly watered down, and the raita was curdled and disgusting. Never again, thank you. I wish I'd taken notice of the bad reviews.

Usually really nice food from Purbani. However, order received on Saturday, 30th April was very poor quality. Chicken madras was like water. Garlic chili chicken was clearly pieces of already prepared chicken tikka chucked into a sauce. Chicken was dry. Samosa full of oil. As I say, really not usual experience from this restaurant so I called them to share my disappointment. I was offered a 20% discount on my next order which was frankly ridiculous given I currently had poor quality food in front of me at the time. I suggested 20% off current order which was agreed to but told would need to be processed next day as no manager on site. Unfortunately the refund has still not been received. I generally accept there may be problems from time to time but when a restaurant is given the opportunity to put it right and fails to do so, I think that is unacceptable. Either a full refund or replacement food would have been suitable in this instance.

Not as good as it use to be, they use to do the best Dhansak around but recently I found the quality has gone down.

Ordered my usual Onion Bhaji Chicken vindaloo extra hot and spicy, coconut rice (their own speciality), Bombay potatoes, Keema nan. Excellent as ever, good price

Went here on a Friday night at 6pm for the first time. Very intimate place. Waiters very friendly and service was excellent. Onion Bhajis weren't covered in grease- something I've encountered in numerous Indian restaurants- meat samosas were fresh, and the Chicken Tikka Bhuna was great. All very reasonably priced too. Will definitely be making a second visit.

Although I have only dined in at Purbani once, we regularly order food for home delivery, and they have been consistently (over the past several years) very good quality and tasty dishes. Have been sampling many things from the extensive menu and have yet to be disappointed. Will be ordering again soon!

Like smaller off the besten track places generally. Very close to tube, reasonably priced. Cobra lager was 4.75 , most curries under £10, had meat byriani which was tasty but very light on meat content. I had chappati and pappadoms to accompany. Interior is basic, toilets adequate but not to restaurant standard more greasy spoon. I thought service was fine , they are juggling take alway orders that could prove a distraction.

Firstly, I would not go to this place if you are looking for good service. I have never seen such miserable expressions on the waiters faces. The food was adequate but the nans were probably the worse we have ever had. Sticking raw garlic into holes does not make it a garlic nan! Sticking raw chillies into a chilli nan does not make it a chilli nan. The main Bangladeshi meals were alright but it was afterwards when we realised they were not right. The lamb was really though and definitely not good quality. This place is small and feels quite cramped as are the toilets! I can never understand why some restaurants turn their hand dryers off at the mains, especially dealing with food. I gave it two stars as the rice tasted nice. Would we return, no way!

This place we thought we would give a try being a small restaurant, how wrong was our decision. This is the worst place I have eaten as Indian. The food what can I say I’d rather go to the cheap chicken and chip shops and probably had value for money.

Purbani is a tasty Indian restaurant at the south end of Wanstead High Street in London. It looks a bit shabby from the outside but puts on some surprisingly good food. Purbani has been in existence since 1983 and there is a distinct 80s feel...

A big shout out to the Ceo of Golden Shalimar alongside his staff who catered for us last night after we've been to the Derby County game. The service/food was absolutely outstanding 👏 & were even provided with complimentary drinks. The restaurant is definitely a 5* rating for a unique fine dining experience by far!! Thanks once again J

I had dinner here with a friend the other night. The food was the best Indian food I have had in ages. A real 5/5 in my opinion. Service and ambience very good, too. Prices reasonable.

Was a little perplexed to find the Couthouse Hotel afternoon tea was set in an indian restaurant. Staff were very Indian (you’re 5 minutes early sir) but did a sterling job. Champagne on arrival, tiered platter of finger sandwiches, scone cream jam, assorted desserts followed by tea/coffee. Pro’s - it was a good experience and we wanted to have a good time. Con’s - bread was poor quality (cheap), felt a little rushed, ambience was noisy but appreciate that was just the other patrons on the day.
