Golden Shalimar in City of London, Westminster

A big shout out to the Ceo of Golden Shalimar alongside his staff who catered for us last night after we've been to the Derby County game. The service/food was absolutely outstanding 👏 & were even provided with complimentary drinks. The restaurant is definitely a 5* rating for a unique fine dining experience by far!! The staff very attentive... Warm hospitality...Their food is not expensive for the portion they served...Very reasonably priced. Very peaceful atmosphere. Definitely I will recommend if anyone craving Indian cuisine around Paddington.

My family and I went to this restaurant one evening to eat as we needed to settle down after a long day of walking. In front of the restaurant there was a board with writing "chicken curry" at a reasonable price. We entered a server installs us. My uncle asked people close to our table how the food was and they were clearly not satisfied. I went to the bathroom and never seen such a dirty place! The toilet did not work the toilet was half broken it was horrible! On the way to the toilet there is a refrigerator full of food which had seemed to have been there for more than 5 days. We don't order meat so as not to get food poisoning, you never know. The servers did not make us comfortable, they were next to the counter watching people eat. A server came to us to take our food and mix it up to tell me that I could eat it because it was not spicy. I have never seen a waiter come and touch my food. The beer cost £ 8 when it was despicable. One of the waiters went to a table to give lemon wipes under plastic, people had no choice but to take them since he opened them and placed them in their hands. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant even as a last resort!

This Restaurant close to Paddington Station is a 'Not Good, Not bad' type of eatery for those who are missing the South Indian Food. Place is clean and vozy although small but simple standard however, Price is real London Standard.

Stumbled upon Golden Shalimar whilst staying near Paddington Station and having a craving for some curry. Staff were friendly and seated me right away. Menu had plenty of Indian standards. I chose the Lamb Jalfrezi and Chicken Tandoori with some Naan. Food came out fast but was average quality. Nothing poor but also no show stealers. Naan was relatively disappointing in regards to size and flavor. Prices were average but given the quality of the food it felt like I may have paid a bit too much. Overall its a fine enough restaurant if you're in the area but I certainly wouldnt recommend going out of your way to visit.

There's little positive to say about this experience except perhaps that we did not get sick as a result of our meal. The food was mediocre, the service cheerless and the presentation rough.

Wife and I had dinner after a day touristing. Small, unassuming place with excellent food. Very friendly owner and staff. The samosas were a treat because so often they are mostly breading. These had minimal breading and the pea/potato stuffing was excellent. The Tandoori chicken very good. Chicken Tikki Masala very good. Generous portions reasonably priced.

I heard about the restaurant via the Tastecard app and decided to give it a go whilst I was in town. I have to say I’m glad I did. The restaurant is a small simple affair, but the food was very nice. The mixed starter was really tasty and I had a Chicken Dhansak which I would also recommend. The food was simple, tasty, and not greasy at all. I would definitely visit again if you want simple but delicious food.

We were planning to go to Brick Lane, but tube disruptions, found us wandering around Paddington looking for an Indian meal. The Golden Shalimar was located in a quiet side street and we weren't quite sure what to expect as we walked in. The waiter who served us was friendly and chatty and managed to find a couple of cold beers for me and my son(we assumed the restaurant was dry as the drinks offered on the menu were lassi, fruit juices and Water). The menu was quite limited, which for me was a real positive as I get frustrated having to leaf through pages of dishes. In the end we opted for popadoms accompanied by a nice selection of chutneys and dips followed by mutton jalfrezi and Chicken bhuna. Both were sensibly portioned and tasted delicious, especially my mutton which was a new culinary experience. We did not have to wait long for our meals and were in and out in less than an hour, which suited us down to the ground. The waiter gave us a discount card for our next meal. Would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking an unpretentious experience where you'll speedily be served a tasty meal. Good value too; Less than £40 for 2 of us with drinks. Not bad at all for central London

We went here on a recommendation with a relative visiting the area who wanted Indian food. I am dubious about eating Indian or Chinese food in high streets as it can often be poor quality. This was nice. I was pleasantly surprised. We ate various starters , tandoori grill and curries with naan. I had no complaint about any of it. I will certainly go back. They also gave us a 20% off discount voucher for next visit. The waiters were attentive and quietly polite. We enjoyed it.

Amazing food and staff . Everyone was very nice and helped us figure out the menu since we were beginners in this kind of food!

Ordered a meal as per deal board outside. At the end they said as the dish had been bigger than those in the deal they wouldn't give that price (strange as the board makes no mention of this). Also, incredibly rude and only 2 pieces of meat in my meat curry. Queried this and they were really rude and treated me like I had eaten pieces when they weren't looking. Heard people on the next table making the same query. Re-posting this review, as when tried to publish this before they challenged its validity and it never made it online! Avoid this place unless you want an expensive curry with hardly any meat when you order a meat option.

I know London and the UK has so many good Indian restaurants - unfortunately the old Golden Shalimar isn't one of them. I was so looking forward to a great curry whilst in London, this restaurant doesn't meet this expectation. I ordered a mutton vindaloo and the serving size was so small, it had no flavour and in all honesty the amount of mutton was minuscule, this is on top of over priced mains, entree's and rice etc. It unremarkable dining experience. Give this one a miss.

Was hopeful this would be a good place for takeaway but the food was just average. Not much flavor and the staff was not friendly at all. Cute restaurant and great location but would not return.

One of the best Dhansaks I've had for some time. Basic as can be inside but service and food spot on. Don't do chips and basic drink menu but food makes up for it.

Restaurant indien de quartier disons... honnête. Accueil correct, petite salle, nappes blanches. Va pour des poulets tandori : servis généreusement, épicés mais raisonnablement pour nos palais de bons français. We were walking around the streets and a guy on the streets gave us a discount card. We went to this place for our dinner. Small place but in central London, I guess it's ok as it was maintained neat. Normally, I have seen indian restaurants when they see indian community they go all the way to showcase their best preparation. Missed that!!

My friends and I went here for dinner on Friday night and it was amazing, the food was delicious and so affordable. The service was exceptional even for a big group and I will defo be going again.

Nos dirigíamos a un restaurante diferente cuando un chico en las calles le entregó una tarjeta de descuento para Golden Shalimar. Era Nochebuena, el restaurante al que planeamos ir estaba cerrado, así que terminamos en Golden Shalimar. Pequeño y estrecho (oye, es el centro de Londres ... así que no nos importó). Pedimos Garlic Naan, Mutter Paneer (lo escribieron como Motor en su menú, lo que nos hizo sonreír y reírnos!), Chilli Paneer y Channa masala. El ajo naan fue simplemente increíble y las salsas que pedimos también bastante bien. El servicio fue bastante rápido y el caballero que esperaba nuestra mesa era muy educado y agradable. Volvimos a este lugar una vez más hacia el final de nuestro viaje y disfrutamos de la comida. La calidad fue excelente y el servicio fue aún mejor esta vez. Si está buscando una comida india rápida en un lugar decente y desea pagar tarifas razonables, este es el lugar. La distancia a pie desde la estación Hilton Paddington / Paddington y eso lo hizo aún más fácil.

Met with friends for dinner and drinks. Enjoyed the delicious food and friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend this place to anyone! PLUS if you want to save money, use a Tastecard. We save £64 on our bill using it.

Only ate here as it was convenient to where we were staying. First item noticed was that the menu was a bit limited to other Indian restaurants. Décor was pleasant and staff welcoming but we found the found somewhat bland and not displaying the spices that it was cooked with. I did check previous reviews beforehand but failed to notice the inclusive cover charge otherwise I would have gone elsewhere.

Vicino a Paddington c'è questo locale dove vengono cucinati dei buonissimi piatti tipici indiani. Il locale dispone di due sale, quindi non vi fate ingannare dalla vista esterna. Il servizio è molto buono ed i prezzi sono in linea con gli altri ristoranti della zona.

On arriving, we were greeted with no warmth or care, as if our party of two were some small inconvenience rather than welcome business.

Good standard Indian style cooking..fast and efficient service BUT as a matter of principle I object to a mandatory servjce charge on top of "London Prices"

We ate dinner here. The place is very nice and looks authentic. The food was great and the atmosphere is enjoyable. We ate a set meal and anothe main dish and all dishes were good. The host was very kind.

Visited the Golden Shalimar after a long day walking round the capital. We saw it had mixed reviews, but wanted somewhere local to the hotel so gave it a try anyway, and glad we did. Couldn't fault it. Reasonable priced food. Very tasty. We shared a chicken jalfrezi and chicken saag with sides. Would recommend.

El restaurante estaba muy cerca del hotel y como tenía buena pinta decidimos entrar... Una experiencia que NO repetiría!!! Tuvimos que pedir doble ración de todo porque era muy muy escasa (mucha salsa y 4 cachitos de carne). Nuestra sorpresa final: 4£ por una botella de agua y el 10% del servicio (sin indicarlo en ningún momento en la carta). En esa misma calle hay más sitios donde comer bien a buen precio. Para nada lo recomendaría. Resumen: caro, escaso y la sensación de que intentan sacar dinero hasta por respirar.

Went to this restaurant last Thursday with my partner who is lactose intolerant. Asked what choices he had and was told chicken curry. Asked if there were any other options and were told only chicken curry. We didn't mind as we'd noticed this was on a meal deal. I ordered another meat dish which had 4 tiny pieces of meat and loads of sauce. When I told the waiter he refused point blank to accept this saying he was sure there were more than 4 pieces and then walked off. When paying we heard another table making the same complaint. We also asked for the meal deal price for the chicken curry and was told we couldn't have this as we should have said we wanted this when ordering and would have got a smaller portion. Nothing on the meal offer saying that if you took up the deal you'd get a teeny tiny portion and we ordered early evening, meaning we qualified for the deal. Avoid this place unless you're happy to buy expensive sauce accompanied by rude service! And you can't even have the satisfaction of holding back the tip as they slap on compulsory service charge.

A small but perfectly formed Indian restaurant which could easily be passed by when navigating the hectic Paddington streets. However miss this at your loss as the Indian cuisine was fantastically authentic and rich in flavour with some of the best buttered nan breads this side of Shimla. The staff were superbly friendly and appeared genuinely happy to serve. All in all an excellent, well priced Indian dining experience and thoroughly recommend.

Arrived looking for a great curry but were greeted by unsmiling staff, no spicy popadums, ordered a lamb sheek kebab that was tough and over cooked, as well as being served with brown lettuce. Almost immediately after the starter the main arrived - a chicken vindaloo was ordered with rice and garlic naan. Vindaloo was no more than madras hot with no flavour and over cooked chicken. My partners prawn dish was swimming in oil. A waiter asked if my meal was "ok" does this mean they have no confidence in their standards as they know their food is not good? This was one of the worst Indian meals I have had in London and would advise anyone to avoid at all costs. How they are still in business is a miracle - restaurants like this should be shut down by the food police.

I was really surprised how the staff is rude there, I ordered a glass of white wine, they came to me with red wine and insisted saying it was my fault because I ordered red wine. I asked what kind of rice they had there and they told something like: come on it's on the menu, it's one hour you are looking at it! It sounded almost like a joke, so I want to think they were joking but they looked seriously annoyed by having customers. By the way, the restaurant was empty when we arrived, not a good signal. Food was ok, but very small portions. I had a Table Pouncer booking but they pretended not to know what it was, so I had to insist before they acknowledged that.

Tasty.No nonsense food which we prefer.Total bill with Tastecard was £24.85 We had 2 starters. 2 Poppadoms. 2 vegetable side dishes. 2 meat main course. 2 Rice. 2 Tap waters. Total bill would have been £49.70 including service charge which was automatically added to the total so no chance to leave less or more!Overall bill would be more than we spend at home and have to expect London prices!Waiters friendly and attentive.

Nos quedaba al lado del hotel y decidimos probar la experiencia de sabores de la India. Muy bien atendido, los mozos son muy serviciales y amables. La comida está en muy buen precio pero cuando vas agregando platos de arroz se va encareciendo. Pedimos carne vacuna y de cordero y el sabor de las comidas es realmente delicioso. Nosotros fuimos tarde y éramos los únicos en el restaurante por lo que la atención fue personal. No probamos postre. Recomendable!

Having been rejected from the Pizza Restaurant opposite due to the late hour we found ourselves at the Golden Shalimar.Service is relaxed and prompt. -- Aloo Gobhi 6/10 (lacked spice and was surely not freshly cooked)-- Pappads + sauces 6/10-- Naans 7/10 (just ok)-- Chicken Tikka 7/10-- Mango Lassi 7/10-- Raita 2/10 (was terrible. I never tasted such a bad raita in my life) bottom line: This is surely not a restaurant you would book seats in or even plan to visit. The food is exactly what you would expect in an Indian Restaurant in little England in the 1960's. Maybe that is part of its charm?

Use this curry house after meeting with friends at Paddington. Not a bad restaurant, you know what you are getting and not overpriced. Been here several times and always feel welcome whatever the noise levels. Food is good and the restaurant is clean. Never been here sober, but equally never had any gastric problems thereafter, so if, like me, you like the odd curry to soak away a session on the ale, give it a go!

this restaurant is situated very close to paddington station which makes this hotel more friendly to the visitors who all are styling close by. they have enough of variety to offer . ambiance of the hotel is ok. staff is very friendly. they can give you food as per you taste and requirement in case you want to them to do little bit of changes in there menu, they are OK with that .

Fairly standard curry house. Food was rather spicier than normal which was a refreshing change. Waiters didn't look as if they could have cared less, but still delivered a good service. I'd go back, so I guess that says it all.

Ok so the draught beer was not working. Not a big deal. But secretly pouring a can into a pint glass was unforgivable. I noticed it and the waiter knew that I had. A can of beer is not a problem. I like draught, I like cans. But when they are sneaky about the beer then what else are they sneaky about.

Estaba cerca de donde nos hospedamos, entonces decidimos pedir la comida, muy económica, y llevarla al hotel. Cuando la probamos arroz con pollo, estaba tan picante que no alcanzaba el agua para calmarnos.

Je descends dans le quartier Paddington à chaque fois que je viens a Londres et je viens dans ce restaurant au moins une fois. Je ne suis jamais déçu.Cest copieux et les pats sont tres bons.Le fait que ce ne soit pas sur l'artère principale fait qu'on y trouve toujours de la place
