I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Mayfair Townhouse, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. The location is absolutely perfect—situated right in the heart of Mayfair, you’re just a short walk away from iconic landmarks, luxury shopping, and some of the best restaurants London has to offer. The hotel’s proximity to Green Park station also makes it incredibly convenient for exploring the city. What stood out the most, however, was the impeccable service. The staff were attentive, professional, and went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable. Riyas and the rest of the concierge team were particularly incredible. Their warmth and attention to detail made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. I’m already looking forward to my next visit and would not hesitate to recommend The Mayfair Townhouse to anyone seeking a luxurious and well-located place to stay in London. You won’t be disappointed!

They offer a full room service until 11pm and I called at 10:45 pm on a Saturday night to place an order, and they magically reduced the time of the service that day to 10:45 pm. Believe it?? I do not.

The room was not clearly defined on their website. Said a sofa and bed in an upgraded room. They showed us a room with two chairs and not nearly as large as expected based on the description. The staff was very friendly, but the concierge was not quite as helpful as expected. Great location. Wonderful people in the breakfast room. A bit higher priced, and we usually stay in high end hotels. Was a good experience, but was just a bit different than expected.

Had a wonderful stay at The Mayfair Townhouse and highly recommend a stay here. It was very clean, the staff was professional and accommodating, and the location was nearly perfect. We loved our room, although being on the ground floor was noisy quite early on the weekdays, but we got up early anyway to make the most of our time in London. The bar was beautiful and a special thanks to the bartender, Daniélo, for taking care of us even as they were trying to close down the bar. We'll definitely be back!

Overall we had a very pleasant stay. We were upgraded from a classic to a deluxe room which was a nice surprise. Only slight disappointment was our view was obstructed by scaffolding so we can understand why they would not offer this as a regular deluxe room right now. Minibar was all inclusive but only soft drinks and a selection of snacks. We had breakfast as part of our stay as well which was very nice. Great selection and very tasty and nice setting. Reception staff were a little inexperienced and did not give you the usual brief with details on where the lift was and where breakfast was so we were a little lost at times. Location was very convenient for our weekend plans.

Staying here was really such a treat. The room was very comfortable although small, but that is pretty classic for London. Otherwise the bed was marvellous (slept like a baby every night) and everything in the room exactly to our liking. The staff were also very friendly, warm and generous, making us feel comfortable and welcomed!!

Picking a hotel is overwhelming these days, since reviews are often incentivized or juiced by the hotel themselves; and I'm sure you have also found that often glowing reviews don't match the experience.... We took a chance on Mayfair Townhouse this weekend as we landed in London for a wedding, and location-wise was smack in between the many venues. Mayfair is a funny district if you know London for its a residential neighborhood without many residents instead replaced by loud sports cars that race up and down Piccadilly Road, which yes, were audible from our street-facing (aka the desirable) room. That is NOT the hotel's fault, it's the neighborhood. It didn't interrupt my sleep! In part because our room was incredibly comfortable. The bed is divine, the shower is one of the best I've ever had in England and the service really was impeccable. Front-desk crew was charming, helpful and even upgraded our room when I mentioned I was officiating a wedding and needed to get glam. My one complaint would be: the cute "moon" light sconces next to the bed shouldn't be connected to the same switches as the overhead lights, so you can warmer, less bright lights at night. But that's pretty minor all things considered. Hotel definitely exceeded my expectations, and for the price, considering the neighborhood and the level of service, is quite a good value.

I reserved a superior room. However, it was extremely small, literally claustrophobic. I can only imagine what it can be in a standard room. Being an Architect, I understand very well what an old building is, but their standards are low, even for Japan. Pictures on the website are misleading. Be aware of the carpet in the room. Breakfast is ok, very basic. When I woke up at 8 am, I asked to check out one night earlier. According to the young lady manager, it was not an option. However, I had no intention to explain and discuss the issue. I was traveling, very tired and with substantial jet lag very busy with my job, and with zero intention of discussing this kind of issue. Instead, I would simply check out, but the young lady manager forced me to stay, and she moved into a suite (or penalty of the second night). She told me if I wanted to check out early, I should have talked to her immediately after my check-in on the day of my arrival (By the way, traveling from the USA, I checked in at 2:30 am, and I was exhausted) I explained to her that the claustrophobic feeling built on me after sleeping there one night and also after using the extremely TINY toilet. Moving to a suite may sound good, but at that point, I really didn't care. When you travel, you don't want to experience situations like this, and nobody wants to face discussion with the front desk personnel. I don't care about a suite. I would be more than happy with a truly superior room. I believe she has no idea that this was the point. Probably, she has not traveled enough in life to understand consumers' needs and physical conditions when they travel from another continent and need to work. Managers should be able to understand differences on customers profiles and needs..

Do not expect sleep, if you book this property: "you are in central London". The words that were barked at us by one of the rudest receptionists I have ever encountered: "you can't expect to sleep and have no noise, you are in Central London." This was the response we received after suffering unbearable noise for two consecutive nights at this hotel. On the first morning we woke to intolerable crashing and banging from a building site which is a matter of feet from the hotel. No warning or notice, whatsoever, was given by the hotel at the point of booking [I booked direct with the hotel]. 'No one would book', another receptionist commented 'if we told customers there was building work'! When I made the booking, the primary request I made, incidentally, was for a "quiet room." We were made to feel extremely uncomfortable in the hotel, as a result of complaining about the noise, and offered a 25% reduction on the first night's stay which was not acceptable. If you cannot sleep, the room is not fit for purpose. The cooked breakfast is presented, some of it undercooked, some of it burnt, sweating in large metal vessels and looked utterly inedible. The quality of the food, ordered from the table was only marginally better. The second night was worse than the first. We were offered an upgrade to a 'junior suite' which was essentially a larger room with the same dirty and dated bathroom as the lower category bedrooms. There was hair in the bath, from a previous guest, and ring marks on the marble in the bathroom. We we woken from our sleep again in the early hours. The street noise was unbearable. I e mailed the duty manager and was ignored. We had been offered the choice of a room on the back of the property, which I had asked to be reserved, but when we returned the receptionist said in a surly tone: 'its now sold', followed by 'tough' under her breath. The arrogance was breathtaking and bordering on aggression. Staying at the MTH was an utterly shocking experience. I am still awaiting the details of the managing director and/ or owner which I requested on Saturday, as this will be taken further.

Where to begin? First, the toilets: two cubicles, neither designated male or female with no hand drying facilities. The wine: we asked for white, but they had none and only one bottle of rose in the whole place (this was early Saturday evening) They eventually found wine, didn't offer us the option of tasting it just poured it. When the bill came (which you must check) we had been charged £24.00 per bottle. I know it's Mayfair but this was way over the odds. The food: my king prawn biryani was served with rata - actually it was a thin yoghurt concoction with no evidence of cucumber or mint so I asked for a vegetable curry. This was a big mistake. It was actually a tomato soup with one piece of potato, one of broccoli and a few peas. Overall, the food was ok but in a city with hundreds of better Indian restaurants, why go here? I rarely write negative reviews but in my opinion this is not a good place to come.

Fabulous location. Food reasonable. Service poor. Toilet facilities - should be condemned. And most importantly - check your bill!!!We assumed that our choice of restaurant in the centre of London's Mayfair would be 'safe' - how wrong could we be!! Food was ok - one dish was sent back as it was cold and our order of bottled water is yet to arrive. The bill when it arrived was overstated by 17 pounds! Waitress wasn't too concerned by this and an excuse of ' well we are very busy' was offered. Beware handwritten bills!!!! Toilets are a disgrace!! No hand towels and overall hygiene questionable. In a City full of decent Indian restaurants - absolutely no need to dine here. Stick with restaurants with clean toilets, decent service and billing systems you can trust!!

I don't understand why so many people are giving this restaurant terrible reviews- we loved it! We stopped in on a stormy night for dinner and had a nice meal. We had a lamb and chicken curry, and a vegetable biryani (which was GREAT with raita!) We were served by a very attentive and friendly guy (I didn't get his name) and we chatted with him about cricket (we are from Australia) and other things. The prices are reasonable for Mayfair- some reviewers are complaining about prices but 10-12 pounds for dinner in Mayfair is not bad for a good meal. While the restaurant could do with a makeover, it was cozy and welcoming on a cold January night. I would definitely recommend it- ignore the bad reviews and go see for yourself!

Just had a disappointing meal in the Mayfair Tandoori. The place itself is a bit tired and in need of refurbishment and the food distinctly sub-par.Normally I check Tripadvisor before eating anywhere but since we decided on an impromptu curry, we just found the nearest one to us in Shepherd's Market. Not a good idea! The chicken and lamb chat starters were mainly onion with very little meat and the onion bhajis tiny. Whilst my main of chicken green curry wasn't too bad, the lamb dishes of my colleagues were poor - the meat was very dry and chewy.Given the price of the dishes, we were very disappointed. Not even any chocolate "after eights" with the bill either!

I ate at this restaurant and wished I never set foot in this place. The food, service and cleanliness is truly shocking. The toilets are filthy, poorly ventilated (in the basement) and are directly next to the kitchen. This place needs a complete makeover and good scrub. It's like being in faulty towers and the pretty little manager clearly needs to learn the lesson of customer relations. She wasn't interested in our comments/ complaint and told us not to bother her as she was on her break as she was sat in the restaurant playing on her iPad. She said she only manages it for someone else who happens to turn out to be her father!!!The tiny till/bar area has about 3 spirits and a kettle to boil up a cup of coffee from Nescafé.The prices are extortionate for what you get. We ordered the special curry at £12.95 and it certainly wasn't special. It was just a rich sauce with around 3-4 cubes of chicken. Tasteless and a complete rip off.I have eaten, cooked and sampled Indian cuisine from all over the world and this has to be the worst ever. This restaurant clearly relies on tourist, passing trade or idiots that have never ventured out of Mayfair to sample real food as I can't believe anyone would rate this place as excellent.Sorry Mayfair Tandoori. I am not picking on you but you need to listen and act on complaints as you have more 'terrible 1 star' complaints on Trip Advisor combined than any of your other rankings combined. Truly shocking

I visited this restaurant by chance on Saturday evening, and had a very pleasant curry. The poppadoms and onion bhaji starters were very nice, with decent sauces. I had the Chicken Madras as a main whilst my dining companion had a Chicken Dansak. Despite the comments below from other reviewers about the quality of the food, I found this to be a very flavoursome dish with the appropriate amount of spiciness. A side order of Saag Paneer was also prepared well. Starters, main courses, drinks and service came to £60 for two, which I found to be perfectly reasonable. If I was passing by I'd happily stop by for another visit. If I did have a complaint I'd say that whilst the restaurant was almost full it was eerily quiet at times (groups of people appeared to be sat in near silence), perhaps they could put on some background music?

Walking into this place you initially got the feeling that as it looked so bad, the food had to be good - WRONG! The place looked like it was straight out of the 1970's (and it doesn't appear to have been cleaned or decorated since then). All this can be overlooked if the food is good but it wasn't. It was a nice warm day and I thought to have some fresh curry with my fiancé. We chose the Mayfair Tandoori as we founded it an authentic restaurant. We ordered some medium spicy curry. The waitress suggested us to go for chicken jalfrezy and and some side order of vegetables. We really enjoyed the meal. Restaurant layout was kinda old fashion truly but we felt that we back to old Indian times. The food pricing is too high but not unexpected though the place was Mayfair. The service level is good but I wish it would be more improved. I really wondered to find the negative comments here. The thing is people use to write when they feel bad but unfortunately many people doesn't care about writing review when they found something good. I'm here checking the review after having meal from Mayfair. Even I had no plan to write here but I'm shocked when I got such a worst comments here. Went to shepherd market and fancied a curry. Stumbled across the Mayfair tandoori, how we wish we hadn't.Ordered some poppadums which were good. To be honest I don't think you can go wrong with poppadums. We then ordered our main meals. A chicken dansak which when it came had only 3 lumps of chicken in it, though to be honest I wouldn't have wanted more as it was disgusting. You get better chicken in chicken cottage. It was chewy and felt so unfresh I'm surprised I wasn't ill. I'd also asked for it not to be too spicy. This request wasn't heeded. My friends prawn dish was also very spicy and tasteless. We ordered another round of drinks and some ice, the ice didn't turn up and we repeatedly asked for it only for our requests to be ignored each time.Meanwhile the table next to us had their main meal of chicken tikka masala, except they got prawns. The lady owner just took the dish away, no apology or anything. Then literally thirty seconds later the correct dish appeared on their table. Obviously not freshly cooked. They also asked for a glass with their beer. The woman owner just took the glass which he'd had lemonade in and quickly rinsed it and then slammed it back on the table. She said there weren't any other glasses despite there being hundreds around where she was standing.During our meal, three other parties all questioned their bills, were moaning about the standard of the food and the fact that service charge was automatically added. The owner only said 'well everyone adds service charge, we only add 10%' like she was doing us a favour. Then the bill came. 75 pounds for two drinks, two mains, two sides, two naans and two rice. What a huge rip off. My friend went to the toilet during the meal and said they were the most filthy toilets she'd seen in a restaurant.I can only advise anyone even contemplating going to this shocking establishment to have your mind checked out. It is perhaps the worst restaurant in London.

Just because your name is the Mayfair Tandoori does not mean you can charge such ridiculous prices for such poor and tasteless food. This is without doubt the worst Indian Restaurant I have ever been to. Its a complete rip off and i can only imagine that it survives on first time customers or posh toffs who have never been outside of Mayfair and therefore dont know what real indian should taste like! The service is even worse and the lady who runs the restaurant thinks she is being funny but it actually somes across as rude, arrogant and that she really does not care or want to be there! This place was chosen as we were in the Shepherds Market area, I was not a mistake, but it would not be on my return to list or would I recommend it.We were a party of 6 and were greeted by a guy who could not speak English very well and had no knowledge of what he was doing. We sat down and waited to be asked about drinks and poppadum’s, the waiter just stood there and had to be summoned to the table, on taking the order he had no real knowledge of the menu and had to go and ask Chef at least once for most of the dishes ordered. The food arrived and it was ok, the portions were small and some of the variations of a theme of a dish left a lot to be desired, it was also very expensive for what we got. However, we did order chips, that was obviously seen as a deal breaker for them, all meals were there, but no chips, the other waiter recognising there was an issue took some petty cash out of the till and run next door to the pub and came back with the chips; great customer service – but. Would I go back again, no, would I recommend it, no.

We should have viewed Trip Advisor first! We also share the same sentiments as previous negative oreviewers the place is a real sham!We were crammed in tight and placed on a rickety table, there with no provisions offered to take our coats as a result we wore throughout the experience. As we were placed so close to the other diners we were completely overwhelmed by their conversations and too close to have any form of private conversation between ourselves. The menu was very limited with some of the items being not available, the starters were awful the small prawn starter i had was straight from the freezer it was like chewing pieces of gum! My main course was given the very hot spice treatment which completely over powered the chicken meat all this did was to leave my mouth numb and quench it with a £3.60 small bottle of cobra beer!My wife ordered a chicken tikka curry this transpired to be a tasteless mush which she left eating only side dish and rice. When we arrived there were only three diners in the place, however as the time progressed and as further diners arrived the young lady manager became more agitated and made mistakes with some of the customers orders and becoming somewhat curt and rude in the process while seemingly only intent to cram more customers in down stairs! One poor chap just wanted a simple fruit desert to finish his meal when he was told there was none but could have a piece of cake instead!A further example was other poor bloke who ordered a fish main course just after we arrived was given a piece chicken and when he objected was told with no apology that he would have to wait a further 20mins basically 1hr later he was tucking into a very well done and burnt bit of fish!We could not get out the place quick enough so much so we didn't query the rip off bill of £61 for a basic meal for two!Our recommendation is to go elsewhere, there is plenty of choice in the small square, we can recommend the french restaurant opposite! Unfortunately this was a memorable meal for the wrong reasons! We rarely write reviews but this place is really worthy of note!

The restaurant is located in Shepherds market, a little place in Mayfair with small streets and small restaurants. As I was in the area for a couple of days, I ate in 3 restaurants in this area, but the Mayfair Tandoori earns the title of "worts restaurant of the world", It should go on a Gordon Ramsey show where he visitis and transforms bad restaurants.Myself and my partner visited the restaurant late in the evening (11pm) and it was the only one still open. We asked if we could still be served and the manager/owner told us there was no problem, but that's not a reason for what follows :- ordered a starter to share (indian bread with some dipsaus), was OK- ordered 2 different dishes of chicken, indian style, taste was OK, but 4 cubes of chicken, each the size of a dice, is ridiculeous as price. After all, we paid 60 £ for that bread + dipsauce + 2 chicken "dishes"But as I said, food tasted ok, so far it's only a question of paying a ridiculeous price for a small strip of chicked cut in 4 dices. But what follows will blow you away :As the other 2 tables paid and left the restaurant, we were the last ones, so the owner (a girl in her late 20's) ordered the satff to start prepping the restaurant for the next day, while we were still waiting for our coffee. So the staff started putting all the other chairs on the table, and hoover the restaurant. Then they went outside and started to enter the outside terrace tables, leaving the door wide open while it was freezing outside. And now comes the best : after preparing the tables and chairs for the next day, we're still busy drinking our coffee and the manager calmly asks us if we can move to another table, so they can prep the table we were using. LOLWe did, and then when asing for the bill, started to ask her a few questions (my partner used to run a holiday resort with 3 restaurants) :- do you think it is normal to clean and hoover the restaurant while the last customers (which you gladly accepted) are still at the table ?- Are you sure we don't mind drinking a coffee with dust being spead into the air because of your overfull hoover ?- do you thik is is standard restaurant practice to move guests from one table to another so you can clean the last used table ?The girl responded that as we were the last ones, it is normal the start doing this, so that staff can go home and everything is ready for next day. When we asked her where she studied catering and worked before, ahse just answered " I do know my job, I was trained as a "Hotel Assistant" LOL. "Hotel Assistant" could be anything... from assisting the cleaning staff to being an office assistant, but it doesn't mean you kow how to run a restaurant !I used the opportunity that I went down the stairs to go to the restroom, and had a peep in the kitchen...... You can guess what kind of kirchen I saw, if the mentality of the owner reflects the state of the kitchen. She actually thought we would not pay the bill, but in fact I did the opposite : I paid the bill and added a £ 5 tip (which she will certainly not share with her staff) and when she thanked us for the tip, I smply replied :"the tip is not for the food qualtiy or level of service, it is for you to put aside and save it, because this restaurant will no be in business very long with your lack of business and service standards"To the future customers of this dump : the current number of total reviews of this place is 21, and the total number of "terrible" appreciations is 13, or more than 60%......the choice is up to you ! -

We went to the place after the theater so not many options were available. Unfortunately we hadn't read the reviews. The restaurant is filthy, with dirty and stained towels from the previous customer. The service is bad, the price is high and the food is at most eatable. Avoid is a much a you can. It is very well located.

The worse curry house ever known to man. Service absolutely awful. More expensive than the hadron collider and everything is microwaved within the surface of the sun. Avoid it like AIDS.

I Have eaten Indian food all over the world and have eaten in this restaurant many times when I am in the area. Not sure if they are subject to a bit of a smear campaign, but was shocked regarding the service and food reviews below... as always been extremely good when I have been.I was there on Tuesday night and have to say great food and great atmosphere so I am not sure why the other reviews are so negative as eaten in this restaurant on average every other month for the last 4 years..

Being somewhat of a juvenile, us 'lads' have a bit of a giggle about enjoying the 'great terrible British curry'. We love the fact it comes out of a tin and that the service can be a bit rubbish and it's all a bit of a giggle. I would also add that being a frequent business traveller to India and being married to a lovely lady from the sub continent who is no mean cook herself, I know what the real thing should taste like. This quite simply is not in any shape or form, curry. Everything we were given tasted quite simply of sugar and like it was dripping in it. The service was grudging, the menu appaling and as for the ambience, it was full of people sat on their own reading books - nothing wrong with that you might add but not for us.This really is the worst curry I've ever had anywhere in the world, even in countries where you would expect them to have no idea what it should actually entail. I would strongly advise against anyone visiting here. Absurdly bad.

The Mayfair Tandoori describes itself on its website as: "unique in that it is the only (London) restaurant serving authentic Indian food at very affordable prices". This is blatantly untrue. I very rarely write bad reviews, but like the previous reviewer, this time I feel I have to warn- this restaurant deserves to go out of business. Upstairs is a tiny room with a strange atmosphere, the menus are dirty, the chutney trays were greasy and stained. Food is plonked into white "dog" bowls. My wife's chicken was so over cooked it was hard. My vegetable side dish had formed a skin. Our neighbour refused to leave a tip, complaining about the "appalling state of the downstairs loos". Service was okayish, but our bill for two people came to over £60. For three bowls of curry, some rice, two small Cobra beers and a plate of cold popadoms and a greasy tray of revolting chutneys. Places like this give London a bad name. Please avoid at all costs.

I usually don't review restaurants but this time I had to. On one of my many visits to London, known for the best indian food out of India, I stopped at this restaurant on a rainy evening as I was staying nearby and didn't have the energy to go to my favourite places. It was very dark inside so I didn't immediately see the shape of the place. I ordered some diner and whilst it was getting ready went down to the toilets. The place was leaking everywhere, completely ran down. They should definitely send health and safety inspectors down there! The food was absolutely terrible and I won't go into details as it is not worth spending time on this. The bill was extremely expensive and they tried to add a 10% service charge which I refused to pay. A simple message: don't go there. There are so many other indian restaurants in London ....

Awful food and lacklustre service that put a dampener an otherwise nice night at the cinema.......really this place is in a wonderful spot in the atmospheric Shepherds Market and they really don't deserve to be there. I think the only reason they still exist is that, being in a tourist spot, they are not dependent on regulars, as no one with any sense or taste buds would bother going back! I had a chicken dansak that was no more that a glutinous gravy with chill added....awful mulch. The rice that accompanied this was hard and tepid, as if it had been standing for a long while. At £30 a head for me and my 3 friends, it was a dire experience, truly! And to think, we only chose this damned place because the other indian restaurant close by had absolutely no one in it on a busy night elsewhere. How god awful must that be if this gruel pit had customers. It may seem warm and attractive in the cold conditions of an English winter evening but have fortitude and soldier on elsewhere or your spirit willl be chilled to the bone!!!

Located in charming Shepherds Market, the Mayfair Tandoori is not a smart restaurant, but makes up for this with very friendly staff, tasty, well-priced (for the area) food, and a great atmosphere (by dint of its popularity). It's not as adventurous as Brick Lane, but if you feel like a curry and are stuck in Mayfair, then you need look no further!

Poor value Indian restaurant in Shepherds Market. Headline prices appear low compared with neighboring restaurants given the area is one of the most expensive in London but our bill still came to over £40 each which is bad value given the quality of the food. Almost everything I ate and drank was worse than we could have picked up at Tesco for a fraction of the price which given how bad the service and atmosphere of the restaurant are makes going there a real waste of time and money unless you are desperate. Poppadoms were ok but greasy, chutneys were straight from a jar, main course (chicken jalfrezzi) was tasteless and watery, naan was dry and overcooked. Wine was an awful budget one which would have probably been less than £5 in Tesco. The manager / owner had no clue where it came from - just said it was Merlot. Decor is dated and tatty. One of the waiters was a total mess and smelled pretty dodgy whenever he leaned over. WC horrible and cramped. Will not go again.

This well placed restaurant right in the middle of Sheperds Market - Mayfair turned out to be a disaster. The resaurant looked quit full so we thought it should be fine.... Then it just got worse once seated nearly had to beg to get served drinks, when at last we were able to order food it took ages to get served. It was a type of Indian cooking that I think they must buy in bulk and micro wave....just horrible no real taste. We have eaten much better takeaway than this...Had the extremly bad ideas to go down stairs to the toilets.....Oh dear a very bad Idea Small Smelly Dirty what a mess and then you get to see the kitchen and guesse what Small Smelly Dirty and what a mess.I do not know when was the last time the health inspector made a visit but some one should tip them off as I am certain they would close the place down straight away.Oh and it is very Expensive...Needless to say that a couple of Alka-seltzers were need and a few visits to the loo were needed that night

I thought the food was fine and tasted good enough. I was worried we would get sick after reading the reviews. We had a chicken masala, naan, rice, papadum. All was adequate enough. What was odd was that we were the only patrons and the small size of the restaurant made it a bit uncomfortable. It was very quite and so the waiter was just standing practically next to us. I wouldn't go again, as it was quite expensive and just average.

I'll make this brief- slow (glacially slow) and indifferent service, dirty and cramped, and below average, Westernized menu choices. It's hard to find bad Indian in London but I did here.

Underwhelming - both food and service. Argh! How did we manage to hit two bad Indian spots in London?Service was slow and the staff didn't seem overly helpful nor friendly. I ordered the butter chicken and it made it into the list of 10-worst-I've-had. Since we seek out Indian food wherever we travel (not to mention at home), this is certainly saying something. Not recommended - hit up the Caffe In (also in Shepherd Market) for curry chicken as a much more satisfying alternative.

This was a drop-in meal on impulse, as i could not find the restaurant recommended. Location is right in the middle of bustling Shepherds Market. Menu is standard for most Indian restaurants so gives little away in advance. What a disappointment - the starter (Chicken Chaat) tasted OK, but the minuscule portion was lost amongst the raw onion. The main course (allegedly Lamb Rogan Josh) was highly coloured with food colouring and also tiny - the meat may have been lamb, it was difficult to tell from the taste, but the texture left me wondering. I paid as quickly as possible and left - definitely one to avoid.

The restaurant is hidden away. It looks small but has a downstairs section so it's roomier than it looks. The lighting is a little dark. For a simple Indian restaurant with very average food, this place is very expensive. What you get for your money is a pretty poor quality of food. The ambience is not helped by the poor standard of decor. The service is adequate and usually quick.

A big shout out to the Ceo of Golden Shalimar alongside his staff who catered for us last night after we've been to the Derby County game. The service/food was absolutely outstanding 👏 & were even provided with complimentary drinks. The restaurant is definitely a 5* rating for a unique fine dining experience by far!! Thanks once again J

Was a little perplexed to find the Couthouse Hotel afternoon tea was set in an indian restaurant. Staff were very Indian (you’re 5 minutes early sir) but did a sterling job. Champagne on arrival, tiered platter of finger sandwiches, scone cream jam, assorted desserts followed by tea/coffee. Pro’s - it was a good experience and we wanted to have a good time. Con’s - bread was poor quality (cheap), felt a little rushed, ambience was noisy but appreciate that was just the other patrons on the day.
